Review Dragon Hot Pot - Glen Waverley

Jayant Kripalani
Best hot pot in town for sure. Excellent choice of meats, seafood, tofu, mushrooms, Asian vegetables, they have it all. My personal preference is the stir fry option, but the Signature soup seems to be the most popular and is delicious. Spicy for sure but in a good way, delicious and very satisfying.

This is a popular and busy location. Great selection of fresh ingredients and proteins, quite a wide variety too. The signature malatang soup base is delicious and the fiery hot heat level lives up to its name. The collagen bone broth is flavoursome too. Service is perfunctory but nothing more can be expected in a place like this. There's a small choice of beverages but they do have bottled beers.

Great place, dine in or take away. Interesting concept, you select the fresh products and they cook it into a Stir fry or a huge bowl of soup. A bit costly but great to experience.
??????
Very nice. Lots of options and they taste good. Spicy and non spicy soup base. There is a vegetarian choice as well.

Good food , everything you visit you should try new things. They don't take bookings. Hence sometimes you need to wait. You can try your spice level.

I like the one at Kingsway (Glen Waverley area), instead of the one at Burwood Hwy. The one at Kingsway does their service fast, even for takeaways; and they also made the 'Dragon Hot' really hot, as what it should be. Whilst the one at Burwood Hwy does their service very slow. Looked like they did put the dine in as their priority, since the people who did put their orders after me for the dine in got their food before me, whilst I had to wait for almost an hour to get my takeaway ready. Ridiculous! I'm not impressed with the one at Burwood Hwy.

Tasty food. Noticed some inconsistency in the depth of flavour of the broth. I believe the amount of paste they mix varies each time I go there. Found some items like the yam pieces a bit raw. Could have been booked for a bit more. Nevertheless, I love how you can pick whichever food you want to taste. A good variety of selection and I would say fair price as well. Food is prepared soon and fresh.

Dragon Hot Pot is a unique dining experience. They have an amazing selection of soup bases and a variety of ingredients which you can pick yourself!! The quality of the ingredients is excellent! They have also adapted very well to COVID-19 restrictions and now offer DIY kits delivered straight to your door! Customer service is excellent, just a phone call away for any questions. I ordered online and was able to enjoy the meal (tastes just like at the restaurant) in the comfort of my own home.

Dragon hotpot serves tasty meals. The food selection is good and fresh. But, we can taste msg, especially in the soup. What’s more, they dont cater for peanut allergy dinners. Service is not consistent with most young waitresses tend to give straight face, although sometimes you can come across one or two friendly waitresses. Oh well..

Love the dry mala hotpot. It was super yummy. Will come back for more.

This will always be my go to hotpot place. Love how you can customize the soup base and ingredients. Some of my favourites are their golden cheesy balls (glutinous rice inside with a liquid cheese centre!) and sweet potato noodles which are nice and chewy. My favourite soup base is their hot and sour malatang (choose fire hot or dragon hot level to turn up the heat 🔥)

Signature Ma La Tang (Hot Fire) with an assortment of seafood, greens and tofu.

Firstly, the soup base is deliciously still creamy even at spicier levels, however I do want to say that “hot fire” tasted very mild - if you are used to Asian cuisine, I would just go for the spiciest dragon hot, their soup base isn’t very numbing.

Unfortunately, they did give me the wrong base at first (mild instead of hot fire), service is average paced, prices are comparable at $3.30/100g. Selection of foods is diverse, but I was disappointed there was no bokchoy at 12pm, while operating at moderate busy-ness. I would definitely recommend getting a heap of Chinese cabbage, okra and Chinese spinach to get the most of the broth. Fish was standard, anything prawn was great, scallops were very mild in flavour, frozen tofu probably isn’t the best option to add any flavour (but that’s to be expected).

The area is also clean and the rice noodles were brilliant!

It took them forty minutes to prepare my takeaway order, the time in which people that came and ate in store the same time as me finished and left, as did multiple other takeaway orders that were placed well after mine.

The only thing they had to say every time I queried my food’s progress was that “your order is next”.

Save yourselves the misery of being on the receiving end of such woeful service and drive the extra 15 minutes to the Clayton branch - exact same food in a third of the time.
Vegan Food Seeker
Delicious, with vegan options. Huge variety of mushrooms and tofu! Good variety of veggies. Already have been back and will be going again.

The hot pot craze continues unabated. Having been to the Dragon Hot Pot in Boxhill, we visited the Glen Waverley branch with some excitement. I was very disappointed that there was no condiment station here, which was a highlight for me at the other branch. Each table here had a container of chilli oil and that was it. No fresh garlic, no fresh coriander or spring onions.

Having said that though, their broths were all amazing. We had the spicy malatang, the collagen broth and the pickled mustard broth. Everything was flavoursome and all the ingredients we picked were cooked well. The pickled mustard broth was quite unique - this had a nice balance of saltiness and sourness.

Our bowls took awhile to arrive and the place was quite small so be prepared to literally rub shoulders and elbows with strangers.

The key to good hotpot is the broth and they have definitely nailed it when it comes to the broth. They have different broth options and you can go for the less spicy broths if you’re not a fan of spicy

Love the concept of being able to choose what you want and you get to pick your own ingredients and they weigh them accordingly.

I love how their ingredients are very fresh and they do get quite busy
@eat.wit.chu
LOVED:
🔸More spacious than some of the other Dragon Hot Pots
🔸Good variety, 3 huge cabinets of ingredients to choose from

LIKED:
🔸Good comfort food for a cold rainy day

TIPS/FEEDBACK
🔹The bone broth seemed very watered down
🔹My noodles were a clump, they clearly didn't cook it properly
🔹No seasoning or flavour on some of the ingredients like chicken heart and pork liver

Dragon Hot Pot has made a name for themselves, opening more and more shops around Melbourne so it’s no surprise when they decide to embrace veganism and release a vegan Ma La Tang soup base! So if you’ve never been here before, just walk in, get a table and then pick up a pot and put whatever the hell you want in the pot. From meat to seafood to fishcake and heaps of veggies, there’s something for everyone. Once you’ve got all your ingredients, shuffle over to the counter so they can weigh your pot and it’s $3.38 per 100g and the minimum weight you need is 400g. So you’ve guessed it, the more you put in your pot, the more you gotta pay.

Terrible customer service! Walked in at 12pm and the waitress said no seats for 3 ppl while there were plenty of empty seats in the front. No explanation and kicked the customers out. Horrible and no manner at all!!!

Good to see Dragon Hot Pot has branched out into the suburbs, with Glenny being the only malatang joint (for now).

If you've been to the other branches, you know the drill. Good thing about this branch is that they also offer other styles like collagen broth (non spicy), pickled mustard, hot and sour, and a stir fry.

This time I've gone for a stir fry version. A basic mix of onions, garlic chives, garlic is added to your selected ingredients and stir fried together.

Key flavours you get from the stir fry is garlic, cumin seeds, sichuan pepper and obviously the dry firey chilli. Awesome flavours albeit a tad on the salty side, but I love it.

amazing place with great choice of seafood, the broth and result of making your own hotpot is amazing. Definitely coming back again
SAM TEOH
Broth is simply amazing when they get it right. However, this branch lacks consistency with the richness of the broth and spice levels. Some days hot isn't spicy enough and other days its so spicy. Quality of ingredients hmmm, i'll let you be the judge of it, as majority of the options are frozen.

It's a great hotpot place when you want to have a huge variety of ingredients. However, you do need to get in early before the crowd comes.

Customer service isn't the best.
Had the most disappointing experience today. I requested for water and a waitress named FIONA (if i got her name wrong, it's the one with short blonde hair and coral eyeshadow) rolled her eyes at me. Totally ruined my dinner. I have worked in hospitality and retail myself, its common sense you dont do it!

Took her a while to bring the water over and when she did, she looked completely lost unsure of which table requested for it. Well, maybe if she paid attention to her customers she would know.

Probably won't be returning for a while after this experience.

I order the bone broth, but it doesn’t taste good as I tried the spicy soup in BH. The staff service is so bad and I feel she is a racist. My friend and me waited outside and then we saw the people in front of us just got into the restaurant then we thought we can wait inside if we are the next customer(at that time is very cold). So we went inside and waited then a staff told us we have to wait outside rudely. Then we wait outside again and the staff saw us and ask the ‘australian’ followed us who is the first people waiting here. I am so shock and feel offensive!!! So many good Chinese nearby, I definitely will not come back!
Joey Zhang
I knew it is not worth the money, I just couldn't stop getting more and more into my pot. I would recommend go for spicy and peppey. And don't go if your are starving unless you can control yourself, lol
Oc
They got a new Vegan Soup. It is not as flavourful than the regular soups but still have the numb effect
Melanie (ForeverBrunching)
Not a bad hot pot location in Glen Waverley. There's always a line around dinner time out the door.

The restaurant is too small for the amount of tables. I was squished between the walk way where everyone selects their items to go into the hot pot & another two seater table. It wasn't very pleasant having people bend their bottoms over right next to your food or have customers & staff squishing past each other (not to the customers fault in my opinion).

The broth was tasty & the added items seems pretty fresh. I got the least spicy signature broth but it was probably the limit of my spice tolerance. There was a large selection of items to add. I had to order a minimum 400g. My initial amount was around 350g, because I wasn't very hungry, but I had to go back and get more items for the broth. They didn't have all the items on offer, including my beloved enoki mushrooms, which were refilled after I had paid.

Staff weren't very friendly or welcoming. Service was very rushed. Food came out quickly.

We were here to check out their new vegan/vegetarian broth. It was a unique, mildly spiced yet intense flavoured broth that can be enjoyed by both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Loved the fact that we could customize our bowl from 12 different types of tofu/soy products, 9 different types of mushrooms, 36 types of vegetables and 80 different types of meats and seafood too. Currently the vegetarian broth is served at the Glen Waverley and QV outlets, but soon will be available at all other outlets.

Absolutely loved it... bit of a unique experience filling a bowl full of raw ingredients... but the Mal tang broth was superb... we chose hot to be safe but it wasnt hot at all so go fire hot or dragon hot if you like things spicy...
was very crowded and had a queue... pricing is actually reasonable when you consider what you are getting...
Ruth Li
Always busy and broth smells amazing, but quality of ingredients is questionable. Very overpriced for what it is.

Good for convenience, but would recommend going to other places for hot pot.

Been here before and the food was great and loved it! But then came here again for the second time and I was grossed out by the customer service.

I wasn't feeling too hungry so I didn't get a lot of food. I placed the metal bowl onto the counter and the girl (dyed blonde hair, really straight dark brown eyebrows and didn't have a name tag) at the counter tossed the bowl on the scale and picked up the tongs to measure the weight. She then aggressively THREW the tongs back into the bowl so it made a physical clank sound and rudely said '400g is minimum'. At this point I was shocked.

I went back to get more food and went to pay when she THEN told me there was a $25 dollar minimum for eftpos. Ran back to my table to get cash but realised I had none. Went back to get more food so I could reach the $25. Went back to the counter and the whole time she was skeptical as to whether I would reach the $25. The total ended up being just over. She THEN told me there was a 1.5% surcharge for paypass and by then I was so done with running back and forth that I just told her it doesn't matter depsite having my card back at the table.

Her attitude overall at the counter was just awful. The way she treated me and spoke to me made the experience so upsetting at dragon hotpot. She never once smiled and just stared at me and shot looks at me when I was trying to pay with all the limited information she was telling me one step at a time.

I wasn't even hungry anymore by the time I finally went back to rejoin my friends at the table.

Place is smaller than other branches and the prawns were not shelled as the QV branch. U have to come early otherwise it gets real packed. Hot pot is popular in cold days. Mild Malatang is spicy enough for me.

🎙 "HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST POT!" 🥘
----------------------------------------------------
📍 Glen Waverley
🏠 @dragonhotpot.glenwaverley
.
🥘 Signature Ma La Tang Broth
🍲 w/ The "Fill the Pot with Whatever" Special 😅
.
@bite_me_melbourne and I decided to pop our hotpot cherry and see what all the fuss was about 🍒 i naturally assumed he knew what he was doing, for no other reason than the obvious 😅 (please do have a guess 😂) to my surprise we were both in the same boat! How did we proceed? 🤔 you guessed it! The old "just fill it up to the top with whatever you want" method! 🤗 fried chicken? Sure! Prawns? Do it! Cheese Sticks? Hell yeah! 🙌🏽 long story short, we expected one large bowl to share with all of our ingredients, only for them to bring out two GIANT bowls 😅 lets just say we hotpot till we dropped 🥘 definitely learned our lesson for next time! But hey, thats what wandering is all about right? 😉 p.s i don't actually think we've learnt our lesson and will probably just end up doing the same again next time 😂 EBS syndrome for life! 🙌🏽
.
☑ 8/10! I can only review the broth and the quality of available ingredients because at the end of the day, you put in what you want 😁
.
🔥 HIT - I loved the broth! 😍 packed with deep spicy flavour it compliments almost any of the ingredients you put it. I particularly loved the broth with the noodles and sliced pork 🐷 the pork adds a really tasty fatty flavour to the broth! 👌🏽 the cheese sticks were also a massive hit for me! 🧀 along with the crab meat patties 🦀
.
💨 MISS - these misses could be because im not an expert on how it works, so for the average joe i would stay away from the cuttlefish and octopus 🦑 these were rubbery and overcooked simply because everything cooks for the same time at the same temperature. I'd stick with meats that normally don't have specific cooking requirements ie. Chicken etc.
.
💡 TIP - its tough, but try not to put whatever you see in the pot and don't overfill 😅 you'd rather a few ingredients that work amazing than 20 that don't 😁
.

I must admit, I never had the intention of ever trying this place but was coerced by a few friends to give it a go. After trying it I can’t help but crave for more. Yes the food is frozen. Yes it is self service. But who cares? The broth is damn good along with the large selection of toppings; the making for a delectable bowl of noodles. If you dare to be more adventurous by all means get the spicy variant, but I found mild to be perfect for myself. Definitely will be back and recommend this place for all hot pot lovers!
Alicia
I was finally able to head down to dragon hot pot and it did not disappoint at all. The ability to choose your foods and how much is obviously lots of fun and a very nice feature.
The ma la tang soup base is great (I got the spicy) and was such a nice level of spice.
The price is also very affordable. 100% will be back.
Tania
This store is no where near as busy as the city stores. Lots of hype. The soups are quite flavoursome. There is also a minimum weight so if you dont eat alot, better to share a bigger one with someone else.
Hangry
I don’t normally enjoy Chinese cuisines but I had to be back here again and again. I love the soup base here. The soup is very addictive spicy flavour might have to be careful. The space may be not enough big for some people and normally the queue is long to get in but still worth visiting here.

I frequent this place and I really do enjoy the food however today they made my order wrong. There was a long wait and no one bothered to apologise. They said they’re making a new pot for me but the girl who picked the replacement ingredients had no idea what I originally picked. I think they need a better system for making replacements. I’m very disappointed today.

Pick up your own food and choose stir fry or MaLaTang. It is a kind of casual and street food in China. Due to the flavour and variety of food it can cooled, it is really popular.

Dragon hot pot’s cooking style and seasoning is really good. And it has many choices in terms of food, from sea food to meat, to veggies.

However, if it can make the store cleaner, it will be more delightful to dine in.

It took me so long to try this hot pot place because I was a sceptic until I had a try on the weekend and I will definitely come back due to few good reasons. Firstly, there are heaps of proteins, carbs and veggies to choose from and they're all tasty! Secondly, there are few broth options and I enjoyed the non spicy one. Finally, it's just a good classic hot pot served in a bowl.

N.B. the line can get insanely long, so keep that in mind when visiting.
Darren Lieu
Food was great, can't complain about the price as it's on you.
Service was lacking, lady at the counter looked like she'd rather be somewhere else and was quite rude as well
MF
The plain one was good, the spicy one was awesome, the dry one sadly was soggy, overall I think its a bit more expensive compared with the others but I wouldn't mind if order the spicy one, coz they have more option on the ingredients and the soup taste much better and creamier. Won't order the dry one anymore as I found the taste better in another place and this place make it very soggy and unpleasant to eat.
Rhea Varkey
Dragon Hot Pots’ food is delicious and flavoursome and has a wide range of ingredients to choose from but it did not accommodate to my friend who has a peanut allergy. We specified her allergy to the waiter but ended up having an allergic reaction to the soup noodles, despite telling them. Thank goodness she wasn’t anaphylactic! In the future, it would be beneficial to make sure the cooking staff are aware of any allergy and to cook the noodles separately.
Tim J Naismith
Great value for money and can’t go wrong with the flavours, after all, it is your decision on what you want. We went a little overboard with one hotpot each and tried basic and spicy. Spicy is definitely that so you have been warned! Nothing we couldn’t handle though
Jennifer
Delicious hotpot at Glen Waverley. Flavour is powerful, and there’s absolutely nothing to complain about regarding the taste. This place always gets very busy, especially on the weekends. Need to wait for at least 15-20 minutes outside to get a table. Also, it’s easy to pay a lot if you aren’t careful with the weight that you’re putting in your hotpot
Tessa
This place is so busy so there is a bit of a wait. i ordered the signature ‘hot’ and found it the perfect level of spice. My husband had the collagen broth which was pretty bland. The food can add up very quickly. Make sure to choose your items wisely and don’t get too excited at the beginning. Overall an enjoyable meal.
Suburb Review
Finally tried this DIY style of hot pot. Ate $25 worth of food, its easy to go over so don't over do it on vegies and tofu. Soup was good but not amazing, I went for the Malatang dragon spice level which is the spiciest. It was spicy indeed! Warning: be prepared for the runs!!
They even have konjac low calorie noodles !
Good to try at least once, would not be back in a heartbeat... maybe in the winter time. Service is poor.. ladies at the counter stuffed up our order and some of my ingredients ended up in my friends bowl.
PekoPeko
One of my favorite feeds. Pick it yourself ingredients and you can choose your own soup. You can eat as little or as much as you want. Price is according to weight so make sure you don't overdo it.
Nay Nay
As a Hot Pot fan I was instantly excited about what this place offered. You pick what you want in your hot pot and its priced by weight. A great broth made this hot pot delicious 👌
Eliza Nguyen
Here you're handed a pot and some tongs and given the freedom to self-select your own hot pot ingredients. The novelty of the idea is attractive but behind that, the soup bases and wide slection of ingredients is great. I did find that I would have liked a better selection of veges and proteins but if you like fish balls or tofu balls etc. you'll love this place.
Richard Nguyen
The food is quite alright and the options are plentiful. The only downside is the poor service provided. If staff had a better attitude then this place would be a gem in Glen Waverley.
FattyM
Always fulfills my hotpot cravings without having to stuff myself at all you can eat hotpot places. I’m not too into spicy food so I go for the bone broth option and it’s so flavourful ! It does contains peanuts so be aware all my peanut allergy friends ! My favourite vegetable is Chinese cabbage it’s always a favourite at hot pot for me :) I will share with a friend because the servings are so big after we’ve picked everything we want to put in. I usually spend $25-30 for one bowl that serves 2
Bigmelbappetite
DIY hotpot is all the rage at the moment, and none more popular than Dragon Hotpot with 4 locations in Melbourne with lines outside with people who can’t get enough! Scope out this lil’ bite In this oversized bowl! What an incredibly tasty soup base with all the seafood you can grab 😉
Amyyyeats
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We got to pick the noodles, meat options and veggie options. We opted for the dry and soup option. So glad that we did because both could get very sickening after eating about 1/4
Dave
What disappointing service. It’s a shame because the food is great and if it wasn’t for my last interaction I would have given them a decent rating based off the food. But to have an EFTPOS minimum of $25 is ridiculous! Who keeps hold of cash anymore?! It’s 2018, get with times or have people turn away due to idiotic rules
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Having been to other branches, we knew we would enjoy our meal a Dragon Hotpot. First you get a massive bowl, where you can pick your own ingredients to be prepared for you in the kitchen. You then pay by the weight, the price is pretty reasonable as well. We went for the mild option and it wasn't too spicy, just enough to enjoy our meal.
Willtravelforfood17
Went to this place late on a Fri night and it was packed! Grab a pot, grab all the food you want - and they have a great selection of different meats and balls and veggies etc. choose the soup base you want and they cook it up for you. I chose the mild spicy soup - it was light and a little creamy and a little spicy. I liked it. I also mixed 3 different types of noodles together. The price goes by weight so you may be getting more value from the wagyu beef slices and the seafood rather than the frozen fish balls. On the other hand it kinda feels like you can cook it at home on your own with maggi noodles and frozen fish balls. I wouldn’t mind going back for the soup base though.
Davidsun1029
Unauthentic sichuan style cusine. We ordered Ma La Tang and Ma La stir fry, both taste are awful. The spicy of the food are unnatural spicy, the taste of spicy like artificial spicy flavour rather than spicy from chilli. The only thing u can sense is spicy, no other taste. They fail to use spicies and frangrances. Authentic si chuan style like food is able to balance all species and fragrances well. I would like to buy a instant hotpot soup from asian supermarket and boil by myself.
Connie
We had to wait around 10 mins to get a table- so popular on a Tuesday night !

I chose the Malatang mild soup base which was quite nice. All the things we added tasted really nice with the soup however this place is way too overpriced. It cost around $60 for these 2 bowls - which weren’t even that heavy. I would much prefer to do hotpot at home.
Kei
A simple and quick place to satisfy hotpot cravings, always really satisfying and filling whenever I come by.

Fresh ingredients, always see staff restocking every time I visit, and quite a variety choose from. Food is quick to be cooked, so no long wait. Soup is satisfying and flavourful.
Key
Self choose ingredients with different types of soup base does mean the main marking point is on the broth. To be honest, the broth is made pretty well, not too spicy and neither too oily. The taste however is kind of plain, however I do like the taste, and it’s smooth to swallow.
Gretel Jayne Alejano
After dining at the swanston st branch, we had high expectations for the glen waverley branch. Unfortunately, it wasnt a great dine in experience. The trip to the city is much more worth it having a good meal.

We were met by a line outside the restaurant, and had to wait about 20-25 minutes until we could come in (we didnt have an issue with this).

Once our meal arrived to the table, just from the smell it wasnt that appetising. The difference in the two branches are huge. Soup doesnt taste as great as the city. And staff were a bit rude, so need to improve on their customer service. Gave a really bad vibe to the restaurant.
Kylie
Love how you get to physical pick up all the ingredients to be in your dish straight from the baskets, and that it's charged based on weight. Very affordable. The signature ma la tang was delicious, and I got the medium spice level. The beef, pork and lamb meats were delicious as were the fish balls, particularly the cheese and the fish roe ones. You can't go wrong with the dish when you build it yourself, I will definitely return when I feel like hot pot.
Elle Lamar
Much better selection and attention to the buffet than the Russell Street branch which is crap.
You have to wait at peak obvious times for a table and there is a load of msg and processed/frozen foods but it's delicious.
Munching With Mel
Rating: 4.5
This hot pot place is very popular amongst teenagers or families to get together and share a big warm cozy bowl of hotpot, which stays hot for a long period of time, full of sweet salty and umami flavours. I got the mild soup base, which was slightly spicy but was delicious to eat. The meat, noodles, vegetables and toppings are all of your own choice which makes it fun and adventurous. I recommend the udon and clear flat noodles, as well as the cheese balls which are amazing. My new favourite place to eat, will be coming back here more often or in the city!
OverEating101
THE GOOD
The hot pot here is 💯
You get to pick your own ingredients and choose if you want it in the soup (hotpot) base or stir fry’d. They have different levels of spice so it can suit to everyone

You can also fill up one bowl with heaps of stuff and share it between two - three people :)

MEDIOCRE
You can get carried away picking the ingredients and the price adds up! These bowls are big so you don’t actually need to put in heaps after adding your noodles. I’ve spent $28 on a bowl before and didn’t come close to finishing it

The place is small and if you don’t get a good table you can find yourself sitting with a lot of people around you. It can become very busy around dinner time and I have even waited 20 mins for a table once, but in the pursuit of authentic hotpot it was a small sacrifice
Pineapple San
Very nice place to have some quick and yummy hotpot. The price will add up so it is not very cheap. However the bowl is huge and the broth is very nice (collagen broth, and pickled mustard broth). There is a good selection of different toppings which are refilled quite frequently. There is also option to have the meal dry or with soup. Personally I find the dry version a bit too salty for my liking, so I prefer my soup base. Also, be aware that the minimum weight is 400g!
Linda
Love coming here for lunch, dinner, supper or when I’ve had a few too many wines...
Great selection of food, and the cooking timing is much faster than other places!
Lily Tang
The setup is so cute and how you self serve is soo cute as well I loved having the freedom of being able to choose what goes into my soup. They had a wideee range of things to choose from. Having a few noodle options was great. They also had a lot of weird fish balls that I’ve seen but was never brave enough to try so it was rlly convenient to be able to put 1 in to try for urself. There was also rice cakes which was surprising. I think there was only
4 soup options to choose from which was pretty disappointing because I wanted something spicy but not something oily like mala. The whole process of it was fun but the overall taste was okay. The more you eat the more bland and bored. I would only come here occasionally wouldn’t be my first option when I go glen tho
Sarah Chiang
This is place is dangerous when you have hungry eyes! You take what you want to add to your pot/bowl, and pay $3.20 per 100g (minimum of 400g). There's a surcharge for eftpos under $25.

It comes out cooked within 5 minutes and is satisfyingly hot.
I went with a mild Ma La Tang broth with wagyu, lamb, fish, lobster, scallops, mixed seafood ball & cake varieties, lotus root, rice cakes, sweet potato slices, bak choy, spinach, coriander, enoki mushroom, homemade instant noodles & sweet potato noodles.

Initially I thought I was crazy for getting so much. In the middle I was in heaven cos it seemed like the bowl was never ending. By the end I was sad that there was nothing left and I wanted more despite being stuffed!

I'd definitely come back again and would try the Sichuan broth for a change.
Cookielessvee
Pick your own ingredients and broth. We opted for the collagen broth was aromatic and rich. The place is quite busy. Ingredients are mainly frozen but there is a variety of ingredients go pick from. Nice place for good that gets cooked quick.
Floree
The only vegetarian option here is the stir fry one... the other soup base are contains meat, fish, etc. I had a stir fried glass noodles with veggies topping. The enoki mushroom is fine, but the shiitake mushroom is already bad! It's so stinks, I've got one in my mouth and I wanna puke! The mushroom supposed to be the main topping for me but it ruins everything! make sure you sniff your topping first before you take it 😥😥

also they put like a big chunks of the garlic and ginger, you can see it on the photos.. I mean garlic is fine, but ginger? I don't really like eating chunks of ginger. one other things that ruin the food 😞😞

the mushroom is the real disappointment tho, we don't wanna eat to be disgust and feel sick, right? eww!

Heard about this place from so many friends so I decided to give it a go . I already have a favorite restaurant in boxhill that has the exact same concept so going in I was just wanting to compare the soup base and also the ingredients offered
They have a vast variety of ingredients to choose from however the soup was not as flavorful. My partner found it bland and not tasty enough

I have been a regular at dragon hot pot for quite a while now because it is simply cheap & good! 😍 They charge $3.20/100g so if you know how much you can eat, you can be really strategic with it. Usually I end up spending about $12-16 pp & it is a really filling meal. 😋 I love that there is a wide variety of ingredients to choose from and the different spicy levels. 🌶 What is even better is that they have introduced some other flavours for their soups lately! I have tried all the spicy levels for their signature mala broth and definitely think that level 1/2 is the way to go! Even though my spice tolerane is quite high, the spice from level 3/4 is so overpowering that you cannot fully enjoy your meal. Of course, this may vary from person to person. They have the stir fry version as well but I am definitely more of a fan of the soupy one. I am keen to try their collagen broth on my next visit! 🤩 This has been such a staple for me especially because of the winter season! ❄️

It's my first visit. Put the food I want in a big pot. And choose one of three sources. And they cook and bring it. It was very interesting. And the food was delicious. I think I'm going again. The staff are blunt.

A different type of hot pot, instead of cooking your veggies and meats yourself you pick what you want into a pot and then hand it all to be weighed out and cooked for you the way you want.

For hot pot food this is a good option as it's cheaper than usual but you don't have with the same group bonding cooking experience. I guess if your after the taste but can't be bothered cooking it yourself then this is the perfect place for you. With that said, it doesn't come cheap. At $3.20 per 100grams, that's $32 per kilo of meats, veggies, frozen processed hot pot items and select seafoods. They also have a minimum charge of 400grams so that's a minimum $12.80 per serving which isn't too bad. With that said it's quite easy to go over 400 grams as it includes the weight of the container/pot you are collecting the ingredients in so you'll need to factor that in.

In terms of cooking they offer 4 flavours of soup base to cook it in or have it wok fried for you. The soup bases are collagen bone broth, hot and sour soup, pickled mustard and their spicy and numbing option, the ma la tang. I had the bone broth as I don't like spicy. The broth was flavoursome and a great tasting soup base for hot pot. Unfortunately all the ingredients I had chosen were thrown into the soup base at one time so my beef ended up overcooked so that everything was cooked properly.

At the end of the day, I had a large bowl of noodle soup with plenty of veggies and meats that I had personally chosen in a tasty soup broth. I guess the $22.21 that I spent on it wasn't too bad as it was filling and satisfying but it's definitely not quality food if that's what your looking for.

Went with some friends, ordered their sides they had next to the counter, ordered the signature mild, I can’t eat spicy very well and was this spicy, if you aren’t a spicy person you’re better off getting the collagen broth, overall the food was delicious and service was a quick get in and get out type.

LIT!: the soup bases were delicious and they made our hot pot promptly. I enjoyed being able to pick our toppings to the amount I liked but be warned it is extremely easy to go crazy with the plethora of toppings you can choose from.

NOT SO LIT: once you’ve paid, you cannot add anything extra to your hotpot, so make sure you don’t forget to add everything you want. Also there’s not a wide range of condiments/sauces available. But for a quick hotpot, this place is ideal.

Thanks for having us!

Till now I haven't yet come across a hot pot place where you pay by the grams. These guys charge $3.20 for every 100 grams of food. Our two bowls pictured below costed us a few cents under $60 which pretty much works out to be how much you would expect to pay per head anyway. We finished it all but were very full and probably did over eat. I went with the collagen soup (beef, pork, chicken) while my partner opted for the mild ma la tang. To give you an idea on how spicy, I can't have spicy food and to me the mild would still have been too spicy for me. A downside is that this is a cash only place. A bit odd as it's not just like a cheap $10-15 meal. Also you don't get the same hot pot feels just because someone takes the items you collected, throws it in soup and brings the bowl out you..and it cools down with time. Staff were quite helpful in explaining how things worked though. Selection and freshness of items was not bad either.

Busy place. Staff has no knowledge of what was being posted on the wall. We are asking her of the stir fried dish and she answered something else. Overall the food tasted ok.

With Melbourne’s winter weather in full force, finding a wholesome and hot meal is on everyone’s hit list these days. I decided to try this place out, after a friends recommendation. Upon arrival, it’s clear to see that most seated patrons chose a soup based bowl (there is an option for a stir fry instead). Choosing the items to add to your bowl was quite an overwhelming as there is a lot you can choose from. After the pot is filled, you pay up at the front and choose your spice levels depending on your liking and whether or not you want it soup based or stir-fried. The soup is very flavourful and definitely hits the spot on a cold winter night. Overall it was a good experience, however the problem is over-ordering ! You just want to try a bit of everything and realise you won’t be able to finish it all..

They have 2 types here, soup and stir fry
With 4 spice level. Normal, medium, hot, and dragon hot.
The dragon hot soup, is really really hot.
The hot stir fry, is very hot as well.
Next time I come, I will go for medium.

They have lots of meat and vegi choices, some is different from the one in Russel St.

Something different in concept that you have to choose the ingredients what you really want in pot, went to counter and they weigh for you and pay and ask if you want in soup or stir fry and the only downside is you have to waiting a while if you come in group.
We waiting for 30 minutes...but it’s worthwhile.
We will comeback...try others ingredients

Had a late shift from work and had not yet eaten, at around midnight i was walking around glen seeing what was opened. Not a fan of hot pot but i actually went back again 2 days later because I I really enjoyed their soup base (non spicy at all). Also tasted a new japanese omelette thing that blew my mind. Got a bit of rude staffing but the food put my mind at ease.

Poor service due to lack of communication. Nice food, good selection of meats/salads, which was promptly made. The room is small and very squishy. I was seated right next to the food fridge so there was always somebody standing directly next to my table and sometimes bumping it. Overall quite expensive but nice food, can see myself craving during the winter times.

service nice, but the waitress tends to speak Chinese, which I don’t like.price reasonable, tastes okay, spicy but not that impressive to me. overall average.you can find some good restaurants in chadstone or Clayton .

If you have had "chilli pot/xiang guo" (like a stir fry) before prepare to be disappointed. I have ordered it a few times now and something is always uncooked/hasn't been cooked for long enough to take on the flavours of the sauce and remains bland. There are many stores in Clayton or the CBD that do this style better.

If you must come here go for the '"ma la tang" (soup). One star for large variety of ingredients to choose from and one star for good service. A shame the food isn't better.

The last time I’ve been to a hot pot where you select your own ingredients was last year and I quite like this concept because it gives you the freedom to choose what you would like to eat.
In terms of the food quality, I thought it was alright . However , I found their hot pot soup to be a little spicy despite ordering mild. Overall a nice experience :)

If you’re a small eater but enjoys buffet like me, you would find delight at Dragon Hotpot.

First, you start off by grabbing a metal pot and filling it with ingredients that you fancy. There are many ingredients for you to choose including the meat section (lamb, beef, chicken etc), the MISC section (all types of fish balls and meat balls, noodles, quail eggs etc) and the veggies section (kelp, vegetarian items, bamboo shoots etc). I highly recommend trying the mushroom pork ball and fibrous thread!

My partner and I were walking around Kingsway and decided to try a new place.

We hadn’t experienced this exact concept - you grab a (very large) bowl and start putting various things in it - meatballs, mushrooms, tofu, seafood, vegetables... You then put it on the scales and pay $3.20/100g (we both paid around $23 per dish) and then you decide if you want your meal as a soup or a stirfry. Finally, you choose how hot you want your meal and you pay.

Our souls arrived within 5-6 minutes and were massive.

Man, this was one tasty soup!! And I had perfectly what I wanted in it! Such a great experience!!

Definitely can’t wait to go back and try it as a stirfry!

Definitely recommended!!
