Delicious food and lovely hospitality. Have wanted to come here for a while and I'm really glad we did. Very nice atmosphere inside too, gorgeous old building.
We really like this place! My husband and I have been here a few times and we always end up ordering the banquet for two. The food is served steaming hot, and is tasty and authentic. The staff are very well organised and are ready to assist you with whatever you need. I think we paid around $120 (with a drink) each time we visited, which is reasonable for a special dinner - not great if you want a quick meal, which often we do. Perhaps it would be a lot cheaper if you ordered a couple of dishes and shared...not sure. If you know a lot of people in the area and want privacy, I would probably go somewhere else. The tables are quite close together, which is good because it gives a nice warm, cosy feeling, but bad if you want an intimate meal together. I would definitely recommend the Kathmandu Palace!!!
Delicious and authentic!. I spent a month in Nepal and so this dinner had some high expectations. They met them!
We were a group of four and had been warned that the portions individually could be a bit small so we went for the banquet option ($36.90pp). It had a nice assortment of dishes and we were comfortably full afterwards. The pumpkin dish was by far everyone's favourite and we almost wished we could have swapped it for something for a second serve!
The staff were very attentive for a busy Friday night with the place packed with people but we didn't have to wait and making a reservation for four was relatively simple. It's probably good that this place is tucked away on Nile street because if it was on Jetty Rd. you'd never be able to make a reservation.
Will definitely go back! The papadum in place of bread before the meal was a nice touch
Awesome!. We ate here on a cold and stormy weeknight and found the small cosy atmosphere to be very homely. The service was great, made us feel very comfortable- attentive and personal but not over- the- top and invasive. Food was absolutely delicious, we had the Buffalo and the smokey Butter chicken- both so deliciously tender, not too heavy and SIMPLE! We came away from here feeling very nourished and satisfied! Will go again and recommend to friends!
8/10. We dined here for the first time last night and it was charming! The atmosphere was vibrant with friendly and helpful staff. We shared the banquet for 2 and the flavours were fresh and tasty. A good one for the wish list.
Good and cosy. A nice cosy restaurant situated in Glenelg. Due to the size of our group, they gave us the private function room upstairs for the evening. Food wasn't spicy but can be made spicy if requested. Staff were helpful. A few minor issues such as not having lemonade available, not enough rice or naan bread for the group. Despite these, we all enjoyed our meals and the evening. Would go back there again.
Great little place. Great food and service. Went there with my girlfriend for our anniversary dinner and we loved it. Nice little cozy place especially when it was a cold winters night. The smell of the spices and the cooking while waiting at the table made it even more exciting. Definitely going back there again.
Have only ever had take-away from here. Ate at the restaurant last night and it was so good! Had the entree for 2 to start and shared the buffalo and lamb curry with rice. The food here is amazing and the staff are very helpful and accommodating. One of the best restaurants in Adelaide by far.
Very nice and friendly staff. We got the platter for our starter which was lovely. For main we got the char-grilled lamb cutlets and rump, they were ok. I would go back to try a goat curry next time because the tables next to us got that and it looked nice
Food is great did the banquet for two loved it. Service great. Try the ratbag merlot very good wine. Will return and highly recommend
Nepalese cuisine at Kathmandu Palace Restaurant. G'day and Namaste!!
I am Palden Lama and welcome to my Kathmandu Palace Restaurant. Kathmandu is a vibrant capital city of Nepal in the foothills of beautiful Himalays. It is the homeland of legendary Gurkha soldiers. In the recent years, it has flourished and excelled so much in the form of culinary and cultural head-quarter. Its every growing food culture makes the most of exotic spices exclusively available in the Himalayan subcontinent.
We have put our best effort and knowledge to expand this culinary culture of Nepal to this beautiful city of Adelaide so that you can best enjoy and experience the food culture from the land of mythical yeti, Everest, Buddha and the Gurkhas right here at Kathmandu Palace Restaurant in Glenelg. Our extensive menu is suitable for all seasons be it summer, winter or spring; all food lovers and adventurers craving for wide range of top flavours and ample choices for all dietary requirements like gluten-free, dairy free, red meat, chicken, fish, char-grilled varieties and vegetarians fresh prepared and cooked to the order. Call us for special offer if you haven't experienced Nepalese cuisine yet.
On the side note, We are located in Glenelg and only restaurant with this name in SA. We are NOT associated with any other venues either directly or indirectly...THANK YOU....
Very Enjoyable. Just had a Sunday lunch at the Kathmandu Palace Restaurant, it was an enjoyable feast the entree was the best, which was a platter of different foods. The atmosphere and restaurant itself was very warm and friendly. I would definitely eat there again.
Couldn't choose what was better out of buffalo or goat. Pumpkin dish was the last portion I left on my plate though...sooo delicious! A fine way to celebrate getting into some money!
Urbanspoon does it again! This fantastic app has led me to another fab restaurant. Been to Glenelg plenty of times and never knew this was here. Loved it! Every dish .... We will be back.
Food was absolutely delicious! We liked it so much we went back 3 nights later for New Years Eve dinner! Lots of choices for vegetarians too and also a rare addition of a vegetarian banquet on the menu also. Best Nepalese food I've ever had so far. But watch out on the wine list, the years listed are not the actual year of wine you are served at the table. We found the service was professional and friendly. Both times we dined at an outside table at the front of the restaurant.
Wow. We had the higher priced banquet for 4. Great range of dishes, amazing flavours and spices and perfect portion sizes. Wine prices were good. All in all one of the best meals of it's type in a long time ! Try it
Had a great meal last night ,very full a little slow on service and noisy but over all well worth a visit would reconmend.
Great exponent of Nepalese cuisine. subtle, delicate spices, with just enough heat to get the taste buds tingling. Service is good and an OK winelist also. Good spot for a relaxed dining experience off the main Jetty Road drag.
Good food and service. I disagree with previous comments. Went there with some friends last night and the food was great, esp the entree (2nd on the menu which contains crispy rice) and the chargrilled chicken dish. The king prawn curry was equally delicious. The service was good. The waiter was constantly at our table every time we needed something. The owner came to talk to us and make sure we're satisfied with our food.
GoodFood, Sterile Service. We discovered this restaurant through the Entertainment book. None of our friends had ever been there, so we didn't know what to expect. The restaurant is quite small, and while there were other tables available, we were assigned the table closest to the entrance, which is never very comfortable. The reception was proper, service attentive, however too much of a good thing is never good, especially when the attention is not genuine and unprofessional. The food is quite good, we recommend the paneer and buffalo (a little bit dry, but tasty). A bit disappointing was the lamb curry, which consisted of 'messy' meat (fatty and tendons), a dish which was left nearly untouched by all of us, again tasty but that wasn't enough to make up for it. If you want to dine in the bay, worth a one time visit, but there are better Nepalese restaurants in town.
Amazing food, friendly prompt service and the owner is a true gentleman. Highly recommended for the best Nepalese I've had in Oz.
You've gotta try the rump, seriously good.
We loved it. We ordered chicken, fish, prawns plus a few accompaniments, and everything was tasty and satisfying. Quick service too - we had kids so this was particularly welcome. The staff were really friendly and added to what was a memorable occasion.
My family and I loved it! I was curious about Nepalese food, not having tried it before. I'm glad we picked Kathmandu Palace for our first experience of this cuisine. The food was delicious, served in good-sized portions, and the staff friendly and obliging. Well worth a visit, especially if you love Indian cuisine but would like to try something quite different.
My wife and I came here by chance and had no expectations. We were very pleasantly surprised at the welcome we received at the front door. The restaurant was intimate and cosy and the level of professional service and attention is unsurpassed. We enjoyed the meal immensely and were left feeling very satisfied. We will definitely be back.
Beautiful food, excellent service and good sized portions. We had a terrific night here after perusing a lot of the restaurants in the area. Definitely worth a visit!
