A go-to in Glenroy for takeaway. Had a beautiful Sri Lankan dinner from here last night. Called for takeaway and it was ready in 15min. What a bargain for $11.90 per serve of "curry and rice". Choice of chicken, beef, lamb, fish and 3 veggie curries. Fresh and delicious!

A LANKAN BUFFET on a SPLENDID SUNDAY
As a freelancer, after an assignment on a Sunday afternoon, all you need is a sumptuous meal and that's how I bumped into this place. Below are my two pence about a place which deserves some accolade.
AMBIENCE: 3/5
It's actually two businesses at one place - a grocery store adjacent to the dining area, nothing wrong with it. The seating is decent and the place is well lit. I arrived in the late afternoon, thus had my meal experience about an hour before twilight. Overall, a rather 'generous' rating, given the other parameters more than making up for it.
FOOD: 4.5/5
If it's a buffet, then food takes the centre stage by default. There was plenty to choose from. Each item had its own Lankan flavour. Loved the coconut pancakes and the minced coconut fry/mix. There were at least 5 different kinds of rice servings, and boy.. delicious they were all! There was egg curry, chicken fry, lentils, a sautéed cashew nut dish, and much more. Even the fried red chilli had a distinct taste. As an Indian by birth, and always fond of South Indian cuisines (I am not from South India though), I must say it was a fulfilling - Sri Lanka being a close neighbour down south; a worthwhile experience. They did such a good job that I can barely suggest anything further. If at all, the food could have been warmer.. especially for late arrivals. Some salads and some additional variety in desserts could do wonders. Nevertheless, for the price, the quantity, variety, flavours on offer was just fantastic! LOVED IT!
SERVICE: 5/5
I normally don't get carried away while rating things (or places), but people at 'Chef Lanka' deserve a pat on their back for doing a splendid job. No matter, how conservative I get, I can't rate the service anything lesser than 5. My brother-in-law had joined me later and since we didn't have beef, he enquired if mutton curry was available.. to our pleasant surprise, the floor in-charge arranged for the same in a matter of 30 mins! Now, who would rate the taste, the gesture in itself was enough to strike a chord or two anyways. Later, he would arrange for ice creams, going out of his way, as it was clearly not a part of the buffet, very much like the mutton curry. All this while he wore a warm smile, even courteously allowed me to go for fresh plates, while I tried to capture a few food shots. My bad, I forgot to ask his name, for such acts of generosity and warm service are what stay with you for long.. long after you forget the flavours and even leave the city. DEEPLY MOVED.
OVERALL: 4/5
Since I value service at par with food, in fact, more at times, I must confess CHEF LANKA has well and truly carved a niche for itself in my heart. Stomach and palate didn't have much to complain anyway. :-) Keep it up TEAM CL! More power and flavours to you.
Cheers

What a darling little eatery! Authentic Sri Lankan curries - delicious mix. The servings are generous, great variety of ingredients, and prices are a steal. Beef curry is consistent quality. Dinner service is always with a smile. ...and for those who may be wondering, yes, Sri Lankan curry is different to Indian (hard to explain - I would suggest that Sri Lankan is a lighter cuisine -though I enjoy both types). Try it, you'll see!
I'm not Sri Lankan and I've never had Sri Lankan food so take this with a grain of salt, but I thought it was quite good! We had curry chicken (amazing) tempered potato, fish patties which were nice and spicy, buttery delicious rose bread and some rice all for under $30. My only gripe is we were overcharged by about $6 as the prices on the website were cheaper than what the guy totalling our take away meal said, but as it was still so cheap I didn't bother saying anything.
Did not know what to expect was recommended to come here by a friend. My children absolutely loved it and so did the hubby and I. Will be back again!
Delicious Hoppers in Glenroy!. Some of the negative reviews here are quite ridiculous (driving etiquette of the owner?). We came here on a Sunday evening and enjoyed a delicious Sri Lanka buffet of tasty biryani, chicken curry, moreish dahl, yummy string beans and much moe. But the stand-out would have to be the hoppers. Plain or filled with egg, they were made fresh to order and delicious with a sprinkling of coconutty dried samba. They also had some sweet cakes for dessert, but we were too full to try any. The staff were all very friendly, even accommodating our 18 month old with a less spicy potato curry (no cost). All night, we only saw Sri Lankan customers, which speak volumes about its authenticity.
Fantastic value ($18 per head) + byo & great spicy food. Will be making it a monthly night out for our family and friends. Cheers
Good value. Whilst I have seen some ups and downs since I started eating here, one thing I can say is that like McDonalds, the menu is always the same. It is good Sri Lankan tucker though and the owners are friendly and helpful. I would like to see a little but of variation to the menu every now and then though.
YUM. I've only tried the Chicken curry and it was amazing! I could taste the flavour of the roasted curry and it was absoutely delicous and authentic. They have buffet on the weekends, will definately try it. Highly reccomend :)
There finger food is very tasty & good value for money, around $1.50-$2..
Rice & curry was marvelous, really enjoyed. ($6.90 for take away)
I hope they continue to maintain the standards.
Good luck
Super Lankan style buffet on the weekends and really good Lankan style shorteats. The closest thing you get to the shorteats you used to eat at the school canteen instead of the usual pompous overdone shorteats you usually get in Melbourne
Friendly service, delicious food at a good price. South Asian Groceries and short eats next door. Short eats and some dishes are a little too spicy. It would be great if there were mild and hot offerings.
I have been buying their meals for years now . They are consistently great quality & value . I highly recommend the restaurant . The devilled chicken & cashew curry are my favourites ..
Beautiful takeaway dinner from Chef Lanka during this time of home isolation. Called in my order and picked up it up 15min later. What a bargain at $11.90 for this "curry and rice" meal. It was fresh and delicious! Please support local!
Fantastic food. Really great price. Always hits the right place when you are hungry. This place is becoming our regular takeout on the days when we can visit the office.
This is the best place I have been to for sri lankan food. Their lunch buffet is real value for money as it includes a number of very tasty sri lankan dishes. Each dish tastes different with less oil and chillie. It has the traditional sri lankan taste. Their customer service is par excellence. The pleasant girls go out of their way to ensure they could provide additional curries particularly if you are a vegetarian I highly recommend this place as this is a gem for sri lankan food in Melbourne
