Review Woody's Byo Restaurant - Gold Coast

Authentic Japanese restaurant with nice owner. Best sashimi I’ve had on the coast, fresh and good cut. You won’t get any tough part that hard to chow, and can really taste the sweetness of different sashimi. Also, they have really good selections of sake to match our dishes. Highly recommend! Will definitely come back.

My goodness! Extremely, amazing, omg, don’t really know how to use the word to describe how perfect and good it is! Even forget to take the best hotpot!! Top rated restaurant!! It’s definitely worth to come here, don’t worry about the price, it actually worth than what you think! Just like you are going to Japan!!

I had great expectations of the place before visiting since my brother raved about it. Safe to say, expectations were matched. 👏 For a party of 4, I think we over ordered but almost everything was cleaned off. For entree, we had the beef tataki and tempuras. I love the lightness of the tempuras which really was the essence of a good tempura. We also had a chef selection sushi boat, for $130, its really quite a value for the sheer size and quality of the sashimi. We also had a itoshin nabe hotpot set, the soup was to be honest quite bland but the ingredients were really fresh. Last but not least the dessert- black seasame ice cream. Kudos to the service crew, though there was a little difficulty in communication, he convinced me to get the chocolate mousse with ice cream instead of just the ice cream since in the mousse has a scoop of ice cream included. The service team was really friendly and approachable which made the experience even better than it already is. Strongly recommend to give this place a go!

Amazing experience, having been to Japan 8 times in the past decade and staying in nice Ryokans and eating at 2 Michelin star restaurants, I can safely say I was blown away by itoshin (also much better than any meal I had in when I was in It 3 years ago). There is free parking underneath (see my picture), the decor is really nice, very modern Japanese (think of a trendy casual fine dining restaurant in Ginza). The sake recommendations were spot on, we loved the koka gasanyu the most and ordered another glass (they serve it like they do in Japan). Edamame: can't fault this, large serve and nice and hot Agedashi tofu: overall best I've ever had in the world (better than Michelin star restaurants), I love the wholesomeness of the vegetables and the broth is just divine, it is not a very traditional agedashi tofu, but a superior one Salmon tempura: best tempura I've had in QLD, not at all oily, very crunchy and the vegetables still taste like nature intended them to. Large boat of sushi & sashimi: WOW, the presentation and quality of all the ingredients cannot be overstated, I love how there is a soy sauce for the sashimi, another soy for the roll sushi and a soy spray for the nigiri sushi. In detail: Pickled ginger: really nice, i think they make their own Scallops: I generally don't care for sashimi scallops, but this is the best I can remember eating in Australia Ocean trout sashimi: unbelievable melt in your mouth umami flavours Salmon sashimi: very fatty and so fresh, it was so fat I could barely hold them with my chopsticks Spanish Mackerel sashimi: I normally find this to be just ok, but this was very nice and the best I have ever eaten in the world. Sushi rolls: all were very tasty and the sushi rice amongst the best in Australia. I loved the Spanish Mackerel sushi roll the best. Nigiri sushi: seared salmon nigiri was smoky, complex and fresh at the same time, it is was my favourite, the Spanish Mackerel nigiri was the best of the raw nigiri. We are from Sydney and are planning to revisit next time we are in Brisbane or Gold coast. We really want to visit Mr Itoshin and Little Itoshin (all related). Thank you for such amazing high quality food and such a memorable experience. I hope we can come back soon.

Delicious. I love their beef tataki and their fresh sashimi. Even their hot pot is great. The juicy beef cooked in hotpot when dipped in a bit of sesame sauce is just yummy. Its the only place I've seen offering Japanese hotpot and the place is nice and cosy but busy so I suggest making a booking if you want a table. I've already came here twice and still love the experience. And I would definitely come back to order beef tataki again.

Came here on the recommendation of our friends who live locally. Extremely lovely, polite and accommodating staff. We were the last customers for the night, never felt rushed. Food was amazing! Freshest sashimi and wasabi plus beef teriyaki cooked perfectly. The green tea ice cream with red beans was the best way to finish of our meal. Will definitely be back!
