Have been eating this restaurant for as long as I can remember. Food is always excellent, one of the most consistent restaurants for quality.
The owner is amazing and the food just as good! We go out of our way to get here.
Food wise the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. I have eaten in Indian restaurants all around Australia and different parts of the world and this is one of the best. Great food at very reasonable prices. Great service and very friendly staff. The owner is a real character.
The food and service is excellent. The owner has a great sense of humour and the prices are extremely good.
Don't miss out on this restaurant, as it is worth a try. We try to get there when we can.
Our family and friends love this place.
Hubby and I ended up here last Sunday after a very busy day. Our 5 year old was attracted by the smell and we loved the food.
The butter chicken was the best we have had in years, the korma was delicious, the biriyani was divine.
If you like Indian, you will LOVE Cafe Spice.
If you want to have best indian food. I highly recommend to go this place.staff was very friendly and i love briyani here and naan breads are very soft and perfectly cooked i like eating naan bread with chicken curry and you can get curries depend on your taste as mild, medium, hot. So why late of reading just reviews just go there and have it and you always like to go there .😋
Have been here many times and have enjoyed every experience! The food was lovely every time and the owner is very charismatic, caring and will talk with anyone. Would recommend to anyone in the area!
We had dinner here on Saturday night after watching a movie at Greensborough Plaza. The positive reviews is what brought us here.
Almost every table was occupied though service was still polite and quick! We ordered the following:
1. Lamb tandoor cutlets (which comes out on a sizzling plate) - cooked well and full of flavour
2. Vindaloo Beef - this curry was delicious, we also ordered it as hot, it was just spicy (perhaps we have a higher tolerance)
3. Tandoor Naan - pretty good! Not too oily or burnt, cooked well :)
Would come back even though it's 20 minutes away. Unfortunately no photos for this review because I was Starvin Marvin!
Great quality Indian. Have ordered takeaway several times and it is now our default, despite being a 15 min drive away. Haven't yet had a dish that wasn't great. Keep it up, we need good Indian in the area!
My partner and I were looking for a good Indian place within Melbourne for us to frequent, and I think we've found it. The owner (I presume) greeted us as we entered, and was not only polite, but also very amicable. He'd come around to the tables, inquire about the food, and wouldn't be above joking with the customers or having a little chat with them. It was obvious that the other people present were returning customers, and the owner and atmosphere definitely seems like one where the customers are remembered. Which is a big plus, in my book.Service was friendly and fast, and we didn't have to wait long for the food to start coming. It's worth noting that we were there on what was a rather quiet Wednesday night, so I can't comment on how the service holds up when things get busy. The food was really, really good. We ordered onion bahji to share for the entree, butter chicken and lamb korma for the mains, and naan to accompany it, of course. The onion bahji was served with what I believe was a yogurt sort of sauce (I'm no expert) and a sweet sauce which the staff recommended. Both were really tasty and complimented the bahji really well.As for mains, the butter chicken was incredible. I haven't had a lot of Indian food before, but my partner (who has had quite a lot of curries, and is a total foodie) said it was the best butter chicken she'd ever had, and that wouldn't surprise me because it was sooo good. It was incredibly flavorful and tasted phenomenal. The lamb korma was also great, but the butter chicken was an absolute 10/10 and it's going to be hard to try other things when I know it's just so so good. The naan was also great, but well, it's naan. Come on. Naan is always really, really good. It's also worth noting that the prices also felt very reasonable for the portions we received. Absolutely no qualms with the menu or pricing.Overall, we had a really nice night and a lovely meal. We'll definitely be returning, so consider this a hearty recommendation. PS: Also, for people thinking about trying out Cafe Spice (which I obviously recommend), make sure you close the door very firmly. It doesn't like shutting properly, much to the owners chagrin. :)
Recently moved to the area and were looking for a nice Indian restaurant. Will definitely be returning here. Food tasted great and prices are reasonable. Staff constantly apologised for the wait (it was Valentines Day), but the service didn't seem slow at all.
Local Indian in Greensborough ticks a lot of boxes. Food is really nice with good flavours. We had the vindaloo and tika masala. Prices are very reasonable with good portions. Owner is very engaging.
Another great dining experience. Lamb falling off the fork, service friendly and food great.
Great beef vindaloo and fantastic host in Sanjeev. Looks basic, but food is sensational and very reasonably priced with a decent selection of wine in case you don't BYO.
My boyfriend and I try to go here at least once a month. Always get the butter chicken plus some kashmiri naan - phenomenal. All the entrees are also delicious, especially the bhajis and chicken tikka!
My favourite Indian restaurant EVER. Will never go anywhere else! The food is always delicious & the service is fast. The owner is always out chatting to everyone & super friendly.
Best Indian food in greensborough ( and beyond ) my familia has been going there for over 15 years and never had a bad meal. The chickpeas are my favourite, followed be the sizzling lamb chops and quenched with an Indian beer Great value food that satisfies at all levels.
Tuesday night is curry night at The Trough so tonight the gang did our usual expedition to Greensborough's Cafe Spice. A new chef made the curries a little more spicy than usual, but in a good way. An attentive waiter promptly cleared dishes and kept fresh water supplied. Lamb cutlets and Onion Bhajee kicked us off to a tasty start. The varied mains included beef vindaloo, fish, lamb and chicken curries (pictured Murgh Chettinad, The Trough's fave). All were moreish and satisfied a diverse range of palates (if palates were musicians our group went from The Specials to the Foo Fighters by way of Barry White and Weird Al Yankovic). As The Plumber mopped up his curry with the last of rhe garlic naan he was moved to reflect on the oddity of a pizza with potato topping that was not much to write home about when fresh but cold the morning after was a revelation. This reminded The Trough to doggy bag his chicken. Say no more.
Two Bears And A Fork
+3.5
Although nothing to look at, and an awkward spot to get to, Cafe Spice has always been consistent with their meals - great tandoori mushrooms & cutlets, and the meat dishes seem to be the winners here. Think there's a new-ish chef though as the Paneer makhani was far too sweet. But the Dahl makhani, prawn madras, and beef korma were all tasty, as reported by my cohorts. Perfectly cooked naan bread as always. Disappointed we couldn't get a coffee though, because they hadn't turned on the machine. We've been going here for years and despite the too-sweet paneer and non-existent coffee, we'll go back, like always :-)
My fave Indian restaurant in the northern suburbs! Super friendly staff who always remember who you are and a delicious menu with all the expected Indian dishes plus a few extra treats. I've never had a dish that hasn't been awesome from here! Simple interior but a great place to have family or group meals with the soothing dulcet tones of Bollywood in the background.
We have been regulars at Café Spice for a long time.Sanjeev offers the best Indian food in the area & is far superior to what others provide. - Cooking style is Kashmiri & simply beautiful.Café Spice can get quite busy, but the food is worth waiting for & is not expensive.Sanjeev is always up for a chat & treats you like old friends.Every so often if he is not very busy, he will even create something special that is not a standard menu item.
Local and convenient. We've eaten at this restaurant several times over the past couple of years. No matter when we go, and we always tend to order the same dishes, they're consistent and tasty.
The food on the "home-cooking" dinner on the Sunday, which is an invitation, was delicious. The food was very different to any indian sub-continent food that i have ever eaten. We had very tender chicken, that was falling of the bone, and only lightly spiced, in a watery broth, which was gentle and fragrant. The lamb pieces in the dish called vindaloo were melt in your mouth tender too. The meal was light, original and tasty. I was really pleased.
The standard food is more typical indian food, but you can tell the quality and freshness of the ingredients is one step above your typical local indian.
The restaurant is quite small, and i can imagine you would have to pre-book on busy nights of the weekend.
This restaurant is now our favourite local indian, and one that is friendly and pleasant enough to visit regularly
1st timer here and definitely be back :)))
Keep up the good work. Delicious
Awesome veg pakora, lamb roganjosh was just fantastic; such tender lamb and a delicious sauce. Wife had chicken korma which she loved. Service was good and very friendly. Will defo eat here again.
The owner is awesome!. The owner is fantastic. Very personable, funny and welcoming. Food is good too. Tandoor chicken and curry vegies are a good combo and it's a staple for takeaway for us. Thumbs up.
If you want great Indian food this is the place. Cafe Spice food speaks for its self. My partner and I tried it for something different with low expectations and how surprised we were after our first dining experience. We have now made Cafe Spice one of our regular Saturday night dining spots. I would recommend the Rogan Josh and the Lamb Vindalooo. The staff are often very nice and we were surprised that the owner comes out and speaks to many of the tables. Love Cafe Spice :)
A great Indian feast!. I go to cafe spice often with my partner and his family and we always walk away feeling satisfied.
The food is fantastic, and the staff just lovely! I would recommend the lamb cutlets, absolutely delicious!! The naan bread is homemade and is also a big hit on the table!
In particular we all love the staff, they make us feel at home, very attentive and warm.
Cafe spice will always be a favorite in the family and we would recommend it highly!
Enjoyable but not memorable. Sauces were plentiful, flavoursome and pleasant. Staff were very good.
Not much kick with what we ordered, so would be very good for children who do not like spicy food.
Would go again. But not a "must go".
Fabulous food! Love it and definitely recommended this restaurant for some lovely Indian.
After our first dining experience at Cafe Spice... We were hooked!! We keep going back and the place never disappoints. The pakoras are so addictive, especially with the cucumber raita. Fantastic food and friendly staff.
Never had better indian, not very expensive and very friendly staff.
Fantastic food, at great prices. Friendly staff and close to home
