Now let me just start by saying McDonald's shouldn't be review worthy unless it was really good or really bad. So why am I writing this review? Obviously it's a franchise so the food is technically supposed to be the same but what sets this particular family friendly restaurant apart is the customer service and how polite everyone is. People actually take their rubbish to the bins instead of leaving them on the tables to build up. Enjoy the photo of me smashing a quarter pounder, Big Mac, a few chicken nuggies and a handful of the frenchest fries chugged down with the elixir of the gods they call "coke". My goodness.
From their designer chairs to the large flat screen TV, McDonalds Haberfield is your next gen fast food outlet that could rival most cafes. So where better to experience the new 'create your taste' table service option than here.
The objective is simple. Locate a self-serve kiosk and follow the prompts to build your own gourmet burger. Options range from restrictive to ample. You have a choice of brioche, bakery or lettuce (aka no bun). There is also the patty - beef or no beef which seems slightly discriminatory as Chicken and fish are somehow perceived as second grade to the mighty Angus.
Add-ons of grilled pineapple, bacon and eggs are charged at $0.60 each but cheese, veggies and sauces are free. Naturally I loaded up on the latter and added a slice of grilled pineapple for good measure.
Although the food took a good 15 minutes to arrive, (delivered at our table), it was undoubtedly one of the best burgers I have ever tasted. Easily trumping A certain Mr G's that I frequented recently. The brioche was light and fluffy, complemented perfectly with the succulent Angus and sweet pineapple.
I opted for chipotle mayo with double beets, onions, tomatoes and lettuce. It was entirely moreish and oh so damn good! Grilled mushroom and caramelised onions takes you far far away from the standard Maccas and I had to pinch myself several times to believe it.
The bakery bun is definitely more filling than the brioche and for those that want a full meal, chips (or salad for the health conscious) and a drink is an extra $4. Special mention required for the new drinks selection, which includes lemon, lime and bitters as well as Apple and elderflower soda. Classy move Maccas. Expect me back soon so please save a table.
