What a lovely brewery in Halls Gap. An amazing selection of beers, and just a shame in this covid craziness that we couldn’t kick back and enjoy more. The feedback that I would like to give is the flavour in the chicken burger could be pumped up with more miso and the chorizo burger a little less runny. Also, we were hoping to purchase take away cans so we could continue to enjoy the beers later, as this was mentioned on the Facebook page. Will definitely return here, to enjoy the atmosphere, more menu items and more beer.
Food was fantastic. Service was good. Beer was good. Nothing to complain about the place. Ambience is nice too. Will definitely recommend to anyone who goes to grampians and is looking for a dinner option.
This is a must visit restaurant/brewery if you are coming down to the grampians/halls gap area. It seemed like a family run business with amiable servers and ample space inside and outside. I especially loved the long wooden tables. Every single dish we tried was amazing and we were really happy by the end of the meal. Highly recommended!
I had lunch here on Saturday 1 September and it was a good, although flawed experience. I was there with my family for the night and had never been to Halls Gap before. We rang this pub a week before to make a booking, and was told "it's a big place, you don't need to book". I reminded them that I was enquiring about Fathers Day, and was again reassured that a booking was not necessary.
Anyone want to guess what I was greeted with when I walked in the door at 12 noon, opening time? "Do you have a booking?". Really unimpressed and a poor start. Obviously PSR have some internal communications to sort out there. I'm no expert at running a business but I will say that just because it ain't 'peak season' doesn't mean there won't be peaks on certain occasions.
The food was quite good, and I can see that heading in to the warmer months the outdoor setting would be quite nice. Inside, I found myself fighting to get a drink - not a good result for a pub. To get a beer you had to line up with everyone else who was ordering meals. The bar is easily wide enough to support two lines, and no-one seemed to be trying to make that happen. Just by observation but this place is possibly trying to work out whether it is a pub or a restaurant, and having some teething problems while doing so.
I tried three beers - they are good brewers. Overall a good business with room for improvement.
Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. Beer was delicious and food was well done. They were also very child friendly, accommodating our pram and little one with no issues. Definitely our new hangout in Halls Gap!
We love breweries like this one and visit a lot around Melbourne. We were so pleasantly surprised by Paper, Scissors, Rock! The beer selection was great and the paddles (four pots) were good value at $16. The food was so interesting and really well done. We were worried that it might be one of those menus trying to be fancy but just overcompensating things, but it was not! We really enjoyed the beef bao, BFC (!!), and the kangaroo main. Really interesting and well put together.
4.0 Opening night was bustling and lively as locals and visitors gathered to explore this new microbrewery. With a Australian-multicultural fusion menu, warm interior, and good service, this place is sure to be a local hit.
🍹 DRINKS:
- "Original Larrikin Gin" Australian G&T $9: Sweet, delicious G&T, made prompty.
🍽 FOOD: mains are aesthetic, but small - you may need more food.
- "Open sandwich of Grilled sirloin steak, welsh rarebit, sourdough toast, fried egg, cherry tomato salsa & watercress" $26 - the steak was cut into thin slices cooked medium-rare, and the welsh rarebit had an interesting, almost beer-like taste. A good combination of basic salad to match.
- "Sous vide spiced Kangaroo loin, Bacon lardon, Beetroot puree, beetroot salad, crispy kipfler potato, Black Pudding crumb" $25 - the kangaroo meat was cooked quite tenderly, with the bacon and black pudding making for delicious savoury notes. The beetroot puree also gave a contrasting sweetness that made this dish unique and tasty.
📷 AMBIENCE: warm and bright interior, sturdy waxed wooden tables and benches, plenty of places to sit.
🧂SERVICE: warm and quick.
