Review Cupcake Central - Hawthorn

TinManFromAus
One of my favourite cupcake stores in Melbourne. They really bring out the innovative flavours, most cake, tasty cream, cute presentation. I decided to try their vegan cupcakes which I have to say - tasted just as good if not better than their dairy and egg version. Highly recommended. My favourite non vegan cupcake is probably red velvet. They've been here for years, and are not going away anytime soon.

Same like GG's review. I had shocking stomach pains all night in bed after eating these cup cakes. Maybe as my diet is so clean , who knows! but something was not right. They were also a bit on the dry side and cream is like mock cream. Not great as people say they are and if those people do rate them well I'd say they don't know quality desserts. I think they are pre-made mixes with liquids added later to speed up production. No love in these.

Wish they were open on Mother's Day! Have been going there since 2014 I think. The staff are awesome. Love the cupcakes. A tad pricier than when the minis were $2.50. I get people gift vouchers to here as a fun 'treat yo'self present. And they're also pretty ethical and supportive of the community by donating end of day unsold cupcakes which is great and socially responsible

Cupcake Central, located at Don Arcade (previously known as Glen Arcade), off Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn is a gem of a cupcake place. As soon as you walk in, you will be greeted with a friendly smile. Service is excellent. The cupcakes are to die for, especially the Red Velvets. It is moist, soft and mouth watering. Topped with a thick layer of delicious frosting. The latte is excellent too. Highly recommended.

Very poor customer service!!! We ordered 4 Baby cupcake gift boxes with 10 flavor in each box on 12/02. When we P/U them at Sat 15/02, flavor in each box has not been sorted, ribbon has not been tided on any single box. Have 4 flavor in one box in the extreme case. We have to sort it out at home and tide the gift box ourselves with not long enough ribbon provided. End up have to use sticky tape to stick the both end of ribbon on the bottom of gift box. We clearly told them, we will P/U at 10am and purposely arrived around 10:40am. Hope can give them a bit buffer to get things ready...Not happy at all and very disappointed. The service is so bad and not acceptable!

Worst experience !! Bought cupcakes from Chadstone Shopping Mall store & they tasted stale & sour. My husband ended up having tummy ache after having them.Wasted our time seeking refund & the store manager was unwilling to talk or do that. Hope the accounts team process our refund & improve their customer satisfaction policy .

Cool set up and niceee cup cakes too. A bit hidden from the main Glenferrie Road, on the side underneath Glenferrie station. Cool, small and nicely set up. Fantastic team running there. Most importantly, can't get enough of their half a dozen or dozen cup cakes to take home.

Poor service, ordered cup cakes to be delivered for a birthday surprise, booked it in and gave 24 hours notice. 2 hours before the delivery I get a call that they are wanting to close the shop early and if the delivery can happen immediately. Unfortunately there would be no one there to accept the delivery so their only option was to cancel the order. Didn’t have time to organise anything else at 3:45pm on Friday arvo. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Australia for some reason can’t seem to make their cupcakes as good as America. Both countries make cupcakes with buttercream frosting however in America it actually tastes nice. Upon my visit to this cupcake haven a girl at the counter was super helpful. I wanted a cupcake with cheese cream frosting. She found the one cupcake that has cheese cream frosting and it was divine!

Sometimes you just need something sweet in your life, and Cupcake Central have the goods. With several franchises around Melbourne, this Hawthorn location is nice and roomy with a yummy selection of pretty cupcakes. With a dining in cafe upstairs, it's a convenient spot for a coffee and cake.

Service was really good. Quick, efficient and friendly; the staff didn't mind me taking my time over my decision. The array of flavours is wide, and they all look amazing. I settled on blueberry cheesecake and it was as delicious as it looks. The cake itself was nice and moist, and the fruit added just the right amount of tartness. The coffee was also great. Cupcake Central is a popular spot for good reason. Great service and yummy cake is always a winner in my book!

Very nice coffee and friendly service. Not usually one for cupcakes but these are a delicious sweet treat. Be mindful the seating is limited..

Theres nothing better than a cute little cupcake and this place is definitely amazing. I'm in love they're colorful and so many to choose from perfect for any occasion

My partner bought a box of 4 cupcakes. The red velvet was nice even though I prefer more cream cheese flavour in the topping cream. Cherry-pistachio? (The purple one) tastes like your basic sugar-overdose butter cream on white cake. Avoid it at all cost. My partner told me the carrot cupcake is her favourite - it could have been mine, too, until I bit into some hard, inedible bits inside. They are like the hard shell of pecan?? (There’re 2 more but they were washed away when I washed them for inspection). The bits are sharp and could have easily pierced my gum or tongue. This is a serious food hazard. No more Cupcake central for me, thanks :(

Always have and will be my favourite cupcakes. The red velvet cupcakes are my personal favourites. The cake inside is nice and moist on the inside

Cupcake Central’s cupcakes were uniquely pretty in design, but despite their appearances I found all their cupcake flavours to be quite basic and similar - those of sugar. They were great for corporate events as you could order custom toppings, but for a non-occassion, best to look for cupcakes elsewhere.

Cupcake Central has some of the best cupcakes in Melbourne! They offer your standard cupcake flavours everyday, as well as a selection of unique specials that are on rotation on their baking calendar (and changes every season).

The Pandan flavour from their Spring Collection was wonderful. The Pandan aroma is quite strong and prominent, just the way I like it, and pairs really well with the toasted coconut. It’s also vegan and gluten free, so it’s not as moist and decadent as some of their other flavours, though it’s still pretty good.

The Chocolate Cracklemisu was also a delight. I find that their chocolate flavours tend to have the most moist cakes - perhaps due to the richness of melted chocolate. There was a subtle hint of coffee which was nice, but being an avid coffee lover I would’ve personally preferred for the coffee flavour to be a bit stronger. But the cupcake was still delicious and I loved the chocolate rice bubble ‘crackle’ on top.

All their cupcakes are wonderfully moist and fluffy, along with being so stunning to look at! Not too sweet nor heavy - perfect for parties or as a gift!
Willtravelforfood17
Pretty yummy cupcakes with a nice variety of flavours. My favourite was the lemon merignue and the red velvet with cream cheese. They were delicious, moist and pretty to look at.
Sunny Days Melbourne
The cupcake craze is well and truly over but there are a few outlets still hanging around and mostly doing a great job. Cupcake Central being one of them.

Before the advent of my bubble tea addiction, it was cupcakes that took centre stage. (Remember Crabapple cupcakes?)

Cupcake Central has very decent cupcakes all year round and for today I decided to try something different - the boysenberry choc top cupcake. That rich, delicious chocolate dome hid a lovely dollop of berry cream. The cupcake itself had multiple juicy berries which were not overwhelmingly sweet.

So while donuts, boutique croissants and bubble teas are dominating the sweets market, Cupcake Central continues to quietly produce quality products which do not disappoint.
Tina
Creme brulee tasted like a normal vanilla cupcake, the matcha cupcake had a weak matcha flavour and the cream cheese topping was overpowering any matcha taste, the salted caramel was quite bitter and as for the mint chocolate it was quite tasty and refreshing. If I were to return, I would not repurchase any of the flavours bought.
Leila
I’ve tried a few of their babycakes, red velvet and salted caramel were lovely. But for $2.5 for just a tiny bite sized cupcake, I expected them to blow my mind. Spoiler alert: they didn’t.

Cupcake Central has a few locations in the city, but the one in Hawthorn is a cute little spot tucked away in a side lane off the main drag. The staff was friendly and greeted us right away. They have standard and mini-sized cupcakes. For a little taste test, we decided to try 4 mini cupcakes.

We got the raspberry white chocolate, cookies & cream, matcha donut, and pear crumble. All of them were beautifully decorated. Unfortunately, every single cupcake was pretty dry and the flavors just didn't really come through.
Sir Brunch-A-Lot
Cutest little place to hide away, especially during winter. Also the best cupcakes I’ve ever had with lots of delicious flavours. My favourite is strawberry & Nutella and they’re always bringing out new interesting ones. Highly recommend

I remember clearly back in my uni days, cupcak central hawthorn just opened and i went there to grab red velvet cupcake anytime i can! I love their earl grey cupcake too! Really good ones!

One of my daughter and mine’s post school pick up Avo tea favourites. Pandan flavoured and anything with chocolate is so yum. Seating upstairs is adequate, abit dark. Service friendly.

Yayyy...finally on Xmas holidays can't wait to have a break. However my lovely boss picked up some cupcakes on the way to work to share with us. With the cute Xmas decorations and with the cream topping delicious as always.

The staff are always friendly and patient (even during promotional periods!). Very nicely decorated cupcakes with carefully chosen flavour combinations, and the box packaging makes for a great gift idea :)

Unfortunately I can only give this cupcake Central a1. This is not due to the quality of the food rather the incredibly rude staff member. I arrived 10 minutes prior to opening time (my error) she was setting up outside and I asked if I could purchase cupcakes now. The response was a very rude no we open in 10 minutes. I then had to moved my car as I was parked in a 15 min zone. I returned to the store where said staff member said to a colleague I'm not serving her (me). The other lady served me and was really nice. I then asked for the rude staff members name and neither staff would give it to me. Rather, responded with a HUMPH. I love their cupcakes but as a first impression at this store in Hawthorn I will not be returning. I left feeling angry hence this review. The owner would do well in re-educating staff on good if not excellent customer service.

A nice little shop tucked away in glenferrie's train station alley way. Easy to find. Cupcakes were presentable on the shelf but sadly it was slightly squashed in the box when I ordered.
Staff were quick and helpful. 👌🏼

Cupcake Central in Hawthorn has super cute, delicious cupcakes! The staff are always friendly and happy. The cupcakes are fresh but don't always taste light and fluffy... probably because we prefer doughnuts to cupcakes... We recommend Cupcake Central if you are a cupcake fiend. We adore that they have two size options- cupcakes and babycakes!

TIP: Do order some baby cakes- perfect bite sized treat!
Sylvia's POV
Cupcakes here are great for a bite-sized sweet treat. With a variety of alternating flavours to indulge in seasonally.
I also tried a green tea latte... Which was quite a disappointment. It was very watery. Didn't taste like anything except watery green milk.
Spirited Stardust
I visited their stall at the Glenferrie Road Festival where you could buy one cupcake & your kid got to decorate another one.
I bought the gluten free vegan chocolate cupcake which was delicious.

Cupcake central was just located next to the train station. It was a good place to sit down and have a lovely cupcake and cup of coffee.
The staff were friendly. All the cupcakes were displayed in the glass box, in normal size as well as in mini size. Everyday, they offer different flavors and change quite often.
Flavors I tried:
#coconut-with coconut custard filling; the icing were not very nice, even little sandy to me.
#raspberry and white chocolate-with visible white chocolate chips ; smooth, light and berry icing taste really nice~
#pandan-very exotic flavor. The icing taste like coconut milk and was slightly sandy. The sponge cake base was moisture with nice pandan flavor.
#chocolate devil-Very chocolaty. I tried twice, one time the icing was too hard, but second time was pretty good. Umm...they might need some consistency of the quality of the icing part.
#cookie and cream-the icing was hard and sandy...
#red velvet-with smooth, cream cheesy icing. It was good.
Well, overall, all the cupcakes cake base were moisture and soft and spongy, especially, not too sweet! However, the icing could be good, could be bad...just hopefully you will get the good ones.
This place serves you one of the delicious coffees in Melbourne. It has nice little place, nice coffee, above cupcakes...! What else do you need to catch up with your friends
Thomas
Great cupcakes, the menu varies according to season. They have options for various dietary requirements (eg gluten free, no egg) and are happy to discuss what is in things.
Thefoodieaddict
Honestly one of the nicest places I've been to. The selection of freshly baked and decorated cupcakes is intense, took m a while to pick the ones I wanted. My friend and I picked the: Cookies and cream, Red velvet, Creme brûlée and Salted caramel. You probably could only eat one of these cupcakes since they're so sweet and decadent but we ate two each. The cake was moist accompanied by the sweet frosting. It'll be one of my go to places for a coffee stop. Will for sure be back. The service was also amazing, so polite and actually put up with my slow choosing of cupcakes.

Extremely awesome service and such as a nice place to chill with friends. It's a small place yet cosy. All of the cupcakes are a major tease. 👌🏽

DO: Any of the cupcakes. Salted caramel and red velvet are always spectacular.

DON'T: Know what to get? Just ask the friendly staff or choose the ones that are almost out. Cocoa and croquembouche were the ones today.

TIP: If you can't get to Hawthorn or its closed, go to their other stores at Highpoint, City, Eastland and soon to be Fountain Gate.

I went there for coffee with my friend today. Didn't try the cupcake but the coffee was surprisingly good, strong and full of favour. I would def come back for the coffee and try the cupcake next time. :)

For a man that weighs close to 90 kilos I have a soft spot for sweets and particularly cup cakes. I hate when cupcakes look amazing but actually tastes bland. Cupcake central gets it right and makes some of the best cupcakes you will ever taste.

Got these cupcakes back when I had my 21st and still love them now! Absolutely delicious!! A little on the pricey side but worth it. Moist cakes with such a great range of flavours that vary all the time!

The cupcakes at Cupcake Central are the best cupcakes we
have ever had, period. Our favourites are the Malteaser, Monkey Bread, Red
Velvet, Pavlova, Passionfruit, Golden Gaytime, Raspberry White Chocolate and so
many more. We bought $400 worth of cupcakes from them for our cupcake tower at
our wedding, that’s how much we love them! They’re not cheap cupcakes by any
means and we can’t imagine they are very good for you but they are amazing and
so addictive.

Cleanliness of the restaurant – 8/10

Cleanliness of plates/cutlery/glasses – 9/10

Cleanliness of the menus – n/a

Service – 9/10

Wait time for food - short

Food overall – 10/10

Ambience – 8/10

Value for money – 7/10

Cupcakes are ok but a little bit too sweet, The staffs are very friendly and helpful. Love their coffee and green tea latte is the best!
Heidi
I love his place, the staff are really helpful and they make a nice coffee in addition to cupcakes. My picks are red velvet, salted caramel and raspberry white chocolate. They also do nice vegan cupcakes, different flavor every day. They are a really good gift for birthdays, they put them all Ina really nice box that travels well.
Loulou
Cupcakes were nice and had a wide range of gf and vegan cupcakes which made it different from the classic cupcake shop, however the cupcake its self was dry and a tad overpriced
Foodnut
Don't know what the big deal is here. The cupcakes are okay, they look good but they're a little dry and all taste similar. Staff were again, okay at best. They seemed more interested in talking to each other than serving. On the other hand the coffee was perfect!!
Nada
No wonder many other cupcake shops close down when you have this place. I have been here several times. Each time I enjoy my latte and try a new cupcake flavour. Just amazing.

Baked fresh daily, my favourite is Taro. Super delicious. Really recommend to try. The guys are friendly too, willing to take care of customers.
Caroline
Very nice place. Friendly staff. Great cappuccino with real chocolate on top, delicious! And beautiful art on the foam. The babycakes are very good (the cupcake itself a little dry though, but the mix with the frosting is good). Perfect size for a little snack.
World Eats Food
Baked fresh daily, my favourite is red velvet and salted caramel! Delivery is always on time with bulk orders, always comes in nice packaging and tastes delicious! Been a fan since they opened their first store in Hawthorn.
Melbournediner
Seriously the best cupcakes in Melbourne (if not the world). Trust me, I've tried many. So many different flavours, which change daily throughout the week. New flavours are introduced all the time. You can get baby cupcakes so you don't feel so bad!
Yuiisama
They opened up pretty recently (within the last year) and my first visit was very pleasant. The staff are always happy and welcoming. The cupcakes are yum, especially the spring collection they currently have going. A very cute and cosy place to have a catch up with a friend :)

5 stars! I know I never give out a 5 but this place is worth it. Yes you have to be ready just to roll around in the sugar and dental caries but it's just a must. They have so many options and gluten and vegan options as well! I almost died of happiness. The prices are pretty good and the sizing is just right. Helpful tip: use a use when eating it to spread the flavour and moisture around. But other than that, go there!
ReadySteadyEat
I love coming here for a sneaky cupcake or two after uni, but always feel a pinch in my wallet when I do.
Cupcakes are very rarely worth $4 each, but on the rare occasion I'm happy to tuck into one of these delicious treats.
Their coffee is not to die for, but still goes down nicely after a long day of study.
James
Would always recommend!. Ive been to cupcake central a number of times now and the service has always been second to none! Everyone is always really nice and the drinks/cupcakes are always of a high standard! :)

Delicious mini cupcakes - every mouthful a tasty delight!. A massive "thank you" to Cupcake Central in Hawthorn for the delicious chocolate/salted caramel cupcakes that I ordered via email for my son's 21st birthday. Having never tasted these before I was a bit nervous but they were a huge hit! All completely devoured on the night! I wouldn't hesitate to make a recommendation and can't wait for the next occasion so that I can place another order. Thanks again. Erin

Cupcake Central is my go-to place for cupcakes. I may be a little obsessed, but it's totally warranted. They always taste and look fabulous, and I am never disappointed.

Cupcake Central you have made all my childhood dreams become a reality! I can eat cupcakes again.
Thank you Thank you Thank you is all I have to say.
And out of all the flavors I have tried, Vanilla, Chocolate & Carrot just to name a few you have never disappointed.
I love your store and whenever “I’m in the area” I always have to have a delicious sneaky treat!
These little beautiful Cupcakes are Vegan as well (God help my waist line)
PS. Mothers day is just around the corner *Wink wink

Of the three my favourite was the peanut butter brownie, with the red velvet coming next.

Cupcake Central make, hands down, my favourite cupcakes in Melbourne. And believe me, I’ve put in a lot of groundwork (read: eaten a lot of cupcakes) in supplement of this statement. I first visited a few months after the initial Hawthorn store opened in 2010, whereupon a friend and I proceeded to try every single cupcake flavour on offer that day. Yes, we were full to near bursting – but in the most gloriously happy way. Cupcake Central’s cupcakes are fresh, light and fluffy. Kind of like cloudy little pieces of heaven. You’ll find favourites like Salted Caramel, Vanilla Vanilla and Red Velvet on offer every day, plus a batch of exciting seasonal flavours – the current summer menu boasting the likes of Golden Gaytime, Pavlova and Baklava – baked on alternate days throughout the week. The autumn menu will be appearing next week, so you can bet I’ll be keeping a keen eye on Cupcake Central’s Facebook page and Instagram feed for a first look at the new flavours! I understand from both T and T that the bubblegum was a favourite; a dollop of pink atop a fluffy cushion of marshmallow that took them back to yesteryear.

Next to Glenferrie Station, I often buy a couple of their Babycakes as afternoon tea. They sell normal size cupcakes for $4 each, and 'babycakes' for $2 each. I've tried the signature 'Red Velvet' at a few other cupcake places like Cupcake Bakery and Joy Cupcakes (there seems to be an increasing amount opening up lately) and I've got to say that Cupcake Central does a great job at creating cupcakes that not only look nice, but are really delicious as well. They rotate their flavours, however there are a few that are the same every day, and a few special ones that don't appear very often or only for special occasions. They are rarely dry and have flavours that aren't too strong but are present.
Sheepish
My personal favourite is the chocolate-salted-caramel, but the raspberry-white-chocolate comes a close second. The red velvet is definitely nothing to sneeze at either. They have a few shops around now, the newest one (that I’m aware of) in Highpoint. The coffee is sweet – due to the rich chocolate flakes sprinkled on top – but always beautifully presented. A great place to indulge.
I'd highly recommend Cupcake Central, especially the Hawthorn one, if you're close by. The staff are always very friendly, even though I've only been there once, I've met Sharam before at their flagship store at Melbourne Central, he was very lively and friendly. It's always good to make an impression. :)

The best cupcake shop in Melbourne for me. You can find them in Hawthorn, Melbourne Central and Highpoint. I usually go to the one in Melbourne Central and now that I've lived just accross the road, its worrisome. I have met Sheryl, the owner in person on Cake Expo last year where she showed us her amzing piping techniques. She also told us her story, how she pursued her dream and made it come true. Its inspiring and I hope I can be like her one day, . FYI, I'm a huge chocolate fan, so I will always choose death by chocolate cake over any berry crumble or fruit cake. But somehow if I can only buy two cupcakes, I'll definitely skip the chocolate ones for these two. I love cream cheese so much and that might actually explains why :9 I really love the berries in the bottom, it gives that sweet and tangy taste in your mouth balancing the sweetnees of the frosting. Mixed berry yoghurt & Raspberry white chocolate - $4 each My friend really enjoyed the

They have a Cupcake flavour calender, rotating more than 20 flavours everyday - some popular flavours are baked everyday, while there are other daily specials. And they rotate the calender every season or so...

Further to my ongoing odyssey to find Melbourne's best cupcake, I trotted off of Melbourne Central one afternoon for a sweet treat. I had recently read about Cupcake Central and was eager to try it out, given that it only opened a few months ago. The cupcakes are baked fresh every day, and they rotate through flavours on different days of the week. In addition to the usual flavours, Cupcake Central also do some more unusual combinations. The flavours that caught my eye were Chai Latte, Lavender Honey Lemon, Salted Caramel and Devil's Food Cake. I quite liked the inventive use of wooden forks to label the cupcakes. Mini cupcakes are $2, large ones are $4 (standard pricing). "Hatch that Dream" is the mantra of Cupcake Central. Quite inspiring and uplifting really, the idea that someone has had this fabulous desire to open a cupcake shop, and has finally done so. There is something to be said for pursuing something that you love, just for the fun of it, and for

First of all, I am very very impressed with the flavours of these cupcakes (especially the creme brûlée and half baked cookie dough). My issue is with the fact they open without having all of the cakes iced and on display. At around 1030, I was asked to come back in an hour as many of the cakes were yet to be iced. Is it that hard to have everything ready by the opening time? Many other bakers do this and it provides for a much better customer experience.

What a lovely service. I just placed an order for 30 cupcakes and I received the BEST customer service from a lady named Suzie. Not only was so helpful and polite she was so professional and honest. I cannot wait to pick my cupcakes up tomorrow to celebrate my 30th I am sure they are going to be delicious.... Customer service A+++

Yum. Love that this place makes vegan cupcakes :)

Disappointing!. Cupcakes are nice. But the FOH attitude is not!
TinkerTorrens87
I love these cupcakes. They're always delicious and never dry. The icing is nice and light and not just a dense clump of sugar you get at some other places. I have tried all the famous cupcake places in the US but they don't come close to Cupcake Central. I have loved all of the ever changing flavours I've tried so far.
Shanna Jones
Best cupcakes in THE world! Highly recommend! Love following them on Instagram so I can see what special creations they are coming out with. Must not miss out!
Emma
This place used to be good when it was run by the lovely asian people who were working there from the beginning. Now it's staffed with annoying hipsters who make the vibe pretentious and weird. I don't really like going here much, but it's still better than the Melbourne Central branch which has consistently terrible (and burnt) coffee.

Please Help! From an Addict!. Please help, I'm addicted to the gluten free carrot cupcakes. As an unemployed single mu they are killing me financially. Does ANYONE have the recipes for these form the cookbook they could post? Thanks!
Im_bored888
Best coffee!. I always get my coffee from here because of the awesome, friendly baristas. Staff are super chatty, and the cupcakes are incredible- only problem is they sell out sometimes because they're so popular with everyone!
JackJ
Cupcakes Everywhere!. Fresh cupcakes that are baked daily. Nice to see so many gluten-free options. Tea is also good which adds to the experience.

Unbelievable!!. Hi Everyone,
I live in Toronto so I actually have never tried the cupcakes, however read my story, I know it is very long but worth it, and you will see what a phenomenal place this really is. I google searched Cupcake Central to send cupcakes to a loved one overseas. It was his Birthday on March 7, he was touring Australia, I haven't seen him since August and I wanted to send a little something as a surprise. The online store sold me with the pictures of their product and packaging of their gift box! I placed an online order Thursday March 6th my time which would be Friday March 7th Australian time for the cupcakes to be delivered that day. A message popped up saying same day order cannot be placed. I was going to try googling another cupcake store but I decided to stick with Cupcake Central and placed the order for March 8th writing a note to the store that if possible a March 7th delivery would be much appreciated. I received a message from Gigi (the most helpful, considerate, trustworthy person I think I have ever worked with, and Im in the events business!) saying, "Hi Nikki, We do not offer a same day delivery service. The cut off time for the next day delivery is if you order before 3pm the previous day. However, you are in luck :) I will do this for you now. I have ordered already a courier to come and pick them up. Hope he likes them....I know he will! Kind Regards Gigi". Whether Gigi is this amazing all the time or felt my sense of importance about these cupcakes through the email, I couldn't be more surprised and appreciative with this service, and the service didn't stop there. I was continuously amazed throughout the day as we stayed in touch from in-store prep, to courier pick up, to delivery. Emails such as "No worries Nikki. Glad I could help :) The courier has picked it up from our Hawthorn store so it should be with him in the next 45 minutes :) Kind Regards" made me feel like I wasn't half way around the world sending a gift. Adriano loved the cupcakes!!! He was so surprised commenting on all the different flavours and packaging. I will always use this company when sending cupcakes in Melbourne. The service was unexpected but more then appreciated. Gigi really went out of the way to make this delivery happen for me and it meant the world. Thanks Gigi and everyone else who was involved in making this happen, I am truly thankful to all of you.

Nikki Bell

I don't know what the staff are on but I want some. Maybe they are high on the sugar in the air? Either way it's refreshing and nice to be served with such enthusiasm on each and every visit. The gluten free cupcakes are yummy they do at least one different GF or GF/Vegan option each day. My favorites are the apple pie or carrot cake, you could give them to a non GF person and they wouldn't even know..which is a good measure of how delicious they are I think. I like that there are babycakes too for when you're not feeling quite up to a full size. The only drawback with the babycakes is that they don't do all the GF ones as babycakes, only the carrot cake I believe.

THE BEST CUPCAKES GOING AROUND. The Red Velvet Cupcakes are to die for! I want one now!!

Cupcake Central. Curious as to the cause of cupcake craze in recent years, I decided to make a special trip to Hawthorn to get myself a couple. I bought the Devil's Food Chocolate and Red Velvet. Since these are the first cupcakes I have ever tasted, I have nothing to compare them to. All I can say is they are pretty good. The cupcakes are soft and fluffy. The consistency of the frosting is good. The flavours are okay. The chocolate cupcake is not sweet while the frosting is a little sweet. It's a good combination. However, I find the red velvet to be a little mild. I would have preferred the cream cheese taste to be more prominent. Overall, the cupcakes are pretty good but I wouldn't make a special trip just for them.

Just went here the other day for the very first time. Cupcakes were very good. So often you go to a cupcake store, and the frosting has turned into a solid lump. Not here! Coffee had a good taste, but lukewarm. Other then that, staff were friendly and quick.

The cupcakes a spastic,off-world delicious. Coffee is brilliant and the staff are rad. I've also done the cupcake course which I would highly recommend! I'm a passionate regular and have no plans of change in that respect.

Terrible service and careless staff. I bought two standard cupcakes from MC yesterday and when I recieved them they were just given to me in a paper bag. Then I had to ask that they be put in the standard cupcake boxes asuming that the box would have the stand. When I got home I was very dissapointed to find that the cupcakes had fallen apart, the icing was melted on to the side of the box bc the staff did not put a stand to hold the cupcakes secure. They should also have plastic bags or atleast paper bags with handles so it is eaisier for customers to carry

Verry dissapointed to find my cakes like this and that they have careless staff."

I love this little place very much. I discovered it on Facebook and thought to give it a try because I love cupcakes. I was very suprised by all the different flavors that they have and love how they change it up season to season. My favourite cupcake is raspberry white choc but believe me there are a lot of close seconds lol. I have just tried the milkshake today and love how there were little candy hearts in it. Such a sweet and gorgeous surprise. The staff are also very friendly and help you with anything you need. They are also very patient (when your choosing ur cupcake of course.) Highly reccomended

Used to work for a cupcake bakery so I know my cupcakes. Cupcake central sell te best cupcakes in Melbourne. Always fresh and delicious. They change their menu every season to mix things up. Best flavors ! So creative.
Staff are friendly too. The decor is amazing. Very clean kitchen. The owner is and has been a huge cupcake enthusiast for years, she knows what she is doing. There is not a bad word I could say .

Pricey but awesome. The cupcakes are OH-SO-GOOD!! i've heard people don't like the other stores but this branch is superb! i go regular!

Coffee was great but the cupcakes were nothing special, tried 10 flavours and I have to say that they all have a store bought taste rather than a homemade one that is lovely and buttery with bold flavours and a moist crumb, recommend 180C cupcakes, their red velvet is excellent

The best coffee~. I understand this is a cupcake store but your coffees are amazing. I love the vibe and the atmosphere of the cafe, especially at Glenferrie. The staff are extremely friendly, it is a great place to chill and study, beautiful coffee and a huge variety of sweet temptations to choose from. Simply, one of my favourite places to visit around Melbourne.

Cupcake. Red velvet was lovely, but salted caramel cake tasted burnt. Quality control?

Great place for a sneaky indulgence. The cupcakes are pure bliss.

Delicious. Great red velvet cupcakes! Cake nice and moist, icing not too sweet. Funky atmosphere at the Hawthorn venue which was nice. Definitely will come again. :)

Great coffee ! I love how they use small chocolate shreds instead of just regular choco powder for their cap. I'm not really into cupcakes but the cupcakes here are great! I've tried their red velvet (moist, great frosting and not deadly sweet), pistachio cherry -if im not mistaken (delicious combination!), peanut butter and jelly (ok,not my fav).
The awesome thing about this place is tht theh rotate their cupcake flavours each day (and according to seasons too) so everytime i go there, theres always something new for me to try.
Make sure to keep an eye on their facebook/twitter for special offers & deals!

Cupcakes are beautiful and so tasty.. Not dried.. This is where I'll be getting my cupcakes from now on.. Loved the cookie and cream and the vanilla vanilla. :)

WOAH. So, apparently this place is inspired by magnolia bakery in NYC...I would ask anyone going to new york to bring be back a cupcake...not that they ever did!

but now I dont need to ask any more...i will just ask whoever is going to hawthorn to bring me one back instead!

Been here about three times. Coffee is great. Service friendly but a bit slow. Very young staff that looked like they owned the place and were a bit run down in terms of energy level. Cupcakes were beautiful, large selection range and some interesting choices. I've had the peanut, velvet & cookies ones. Average compared to other ones I've had, bit too rich but I like the set-up and will continue to go back for work meetings there.

Disapointing. Went there yesterday as I was in the neighborhood, found it a little disappointing. My cupcake was stale, Coffee not the best either.

Best Red Velvet. Simply tasty cupcakes... My favourite is the Red Velvet... to die for:)
Anjidee
Delicious! The Red Velvet cupcakes are the best by far, so popular that they often sell out. The mini cupcakes seem to be more moist than the larger ones. Their beverage menu is quite limited.

I'm in love. Red velvet :) :) :)

Awesome cupcakes but customer service needs work.. Everyone knows and can see that cupcakes at this place are great!! The new deco is good too! But that is only half of the experience - I was dissapointed when ordering my takeaway coffee by the lack of customer service provided. The girls were too involved in their gossip that they ignored you until they were finished talking, quicky made your coffee and sent you out the door.

Not impressed, my coffee would of tasted better with friendly service . I wont be coming back to this cupcake central.

Good cupcakes. The cupcakes are very good,
I had a salted caramel and chocolate cupcake.
The buttercream was not too buttery - often I have had cupcakes (and made myself) that had too much butter in the icing, and the effect is just like eating sugary oil.
Just the right amount of salt too.
The chocolate cupcake was a good suprise - I often find that most chocolate cakes are too dry and/ tough and chewy.
This was very moist and soft without being doughy, and a good chocolate taste.

I have had a coffee there too - soy latte - not as strong as I normally like it - but it seemed ok.

Favourites. Cupcake central really opened up my eyes to the different types of flavours that can be created in such a small bite. The ingredients are fresh with top of the line products used, and they are used well! Once you find your favourite its hard to change but definetly very worth while if you do as there are so many great treats to choose from. Ive placed many orders and each time i introduce these cupcakes to someone they are really impressed. Highly recommeneded!!!

Friendly service. Beautiful coffee. Nice cupcakes... with friendly staff to brighten up your day

Love love love. Definitely does depend on what kind of cupcake:icing ratio one likes--here it's almost 1:1. The little cupcakes taste great and although perhaps a little too food-coloured, the flavouring is great--I especially liked the red velvet (minus the food colouring) and the passionfruit--the latter with lady grey tea made my afternoon =]

I LOVE that they have vegan cupcakes here! they are also yummy :) but sell out often :(

Did I get it wrong?. I tried Cupcake Central last week and as much as I like sweets, cupcakes here are just too sweet. Not much to my liking. But it's a nice location and pretty spacious too. Guess you don't have to queue here :)

Very friendly staffs. Yummy cupcakes great coffee! Price is very reasonable!

Yum!. I've always been a cake fan, but more so of the 'wet' variety (pavlova, mudcake, cheesecake etc). When a friend of mine suggested I try the cupcakes from Cupcake Central, which at the time was still just a market stall in Dingley, I didn't think I was going to be too impressed with a 'dry' cupcake. Now, 2 or so years later, the cupcakes from Cupcake Central have become my one and almost only source of cake goodness.

These treats are baked fresh every morning and made from the very best of organic ingredients. Red Velvet used to be my favourite, then came Choc Malted Milkshake but just today I tried the Chai Latte flavour and I think I have a new favourite!

I have also ordered batches of cakes for birthdays. Sheryl created me a batch of cow themed cupcakes for my birthday, complete with grass and also a batch for my Mum with edible print-outs of her favour actor!

All the staff are super friendly and the seating area upstairs is nice and cosy. The hot chocolates are a must to try along with the cold drinks and iced frappes.

The Tastiest Cupcakes. I was introduced to these cupcakes by a friend and since then I've been hooked. The cupcakes are truly delicious (my fave is the red velvet). The staff are also friendly and a treat to have a conversation with... I leave a satisfied customer every time.

They use the finest ingredients for their cupcakes and you really can taste the difference. I've tried many different cupcakes sold by their competitors but it just doesn't compare. If taste is important to you, don't waste your time anywhere else.

Barista Will also makes amazing coffees.

YOM!. I absolutely LOVE Cupcake Central. I followed Sheryl from her early days of the market stalls, to the opening of her very own store front. I've bought countless cupcakes from her, either in singles or as orders for birthdays and events. Not only do they look beautiful, but they taste magnificent. Cupcake Central never disappoints.

Their flavors are always fresh and mouthwatering, never a dull taste with Cupcake Central. And of course, they cater for those gluten free cupcake lovers!

I'm a huge fan of cupcakes, but cannot go past Cupcake Central. To be perfectly honest - if I eat a cupcake from another shop, I feel like I'm cheating.

Unfortunately for me, my ritual of a cupcake and a coffee or iced frappe is now limited to my visits to Melbourne as I now live in Sydney. I hope Cupcake Central opens up in Sydney - I'll more than likely move into the pantry cupboard!
Alicia
Great service and yummy treats!. The cupcakes are very tasty, and when all the other cafes are closed, "Cupcake Central" is still open! Not only is the food very tasty, but the service is great as well! I asked for recommendations from my server, and he was very happy to help me. They are all smiles.

Fantastic. I found Cupcake Central on the internet recently & had 2 doz baby cupcakes delivered to my daughter in Melbourne on her birthday We live in Perth & wanted them delivered on a Sunday. Nothing was too much effort & delivery was at exactly the time requested. And what a great surprise for her-beautifully presented & delicious. I wish I lived in Melbourne so I could drop by.

Ms Diaz. I first came across this amazing Cupcake place when I was at a 21st party and she had an amazing cupcake tower.
I had to visit the shop even if it was a drive for me to Hawthorne. I love their Red Velvet. Having visited Magnolia Bakery in New York I never thought I could satisfy my cup cake cravings quite like that in Melbourne and now I am glad that I found this amazing cup cake place!
I love their Vanilla too! and the best part is that they are all preservative free and there's lots of flavors to choose from.
My favorites have to be the Red Velvet, Black Velvet, and Vanilla.
Keep up the good work guys and this place will not disappoint your cupcake craving!
Fat_kid
Sweet treats!. It is sooo tempting to stop off and visit cupcake central when you drive past it each day >.<

Decided to indulge and check it out and was NOT disappointed!

The vanilla cupcake i had was AMAZING! Definitely the best cupcakes around!

Awesome friendly staff too :)

Tasty cupcakes full of flavour. Never have i EVER had such tasty cupcakes in Melb!
On the way to work, walked passed this little modern facade to go to Hawthorn train station and bought 1 to try and a latte to go (they make a killer coffee too) on the way back I bought 12 normal cupcakes and 3 minicupcakes (they were almost sold out!)
There's so many flavours to choose from you just want a taste of everything. They already have me addicted. I'm going to ask them for a membership to see if I can get a discount as I've been going there almost 2-3 times a week.

exceptional red velvet, chocolate cupcakes, and seasonal creativity...but treats cupcakes as paper-bagged fast-food...

Cupcake Central opened its first store in 2010 in Glenferrie nearby Swinburne Uni and it is here that we talk about how that dream came about. We first heard about that dream in Run the World Conference on Saturday. Cupcake Central was founded by Sheryl Thai who had just been made redundant in 2009. Here she decided to have a go at baking cupcakes and opening her own store. She started off by baking for farmers markets and using her own kitchen to bake the cupcakes. From there on it was a success. Sheryl is one of the co founders of the League of Extraordinary Women. She has an online business as well as a blog and you can check out Sheryl's blog . Cupcake Central now has 38 people working for them in their three stores. " Having a business is easy to do if you have the right attitude", says Sheryl Thai at the Run the World event. Sheryl believes very much in the saying that "Practice is perfect", and it shows in her cupcakes. They always have a Surprise Friday flavour which many peop

I hope you go and try out their cupcakes. They are amazing.

I love the story behind how Cupcake Central came to be. Owner Sheryl Thai was made redundant from her job a couple of years ago and that potentially negative experience kick started her dream of owning a cupcake bakery. Fast forward a couple of years, hundreds of kilos of butter, flour and sugar, a mountain of hard work and dedication, and Sheryl and her boyfriend Tin have recently opened their second cupcake bakery in Melbourne Central (the first is on Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn). Not long after the opening of the Melbourne Central store, I was fortunate to attend a cupcake class there. You can see in the first photo that the store has the kitchen open and visible, which means you can watch staff hard at work. Cupcake Central bake their cupcakes fresh each morning which means early 4am starts, though apparently you get used to it?! They bake up to 600 cupcakes each day, and any that don'
