Great food, brilliant service and affordable prices. I got both the unagi don and tofu don (I eat a lot). The unagi don was as good as I've had, and Ive had quite a lot as of late, and was quite cheap at 13.90. The tofu don lacked a bit of flavour but was light and healthy. Would recommend adding an egg to the tofu don for some added flavour. Can't complain about anything. Will be coming back.
Really fast serving and friendly staff. Taste is always good and consistency. I came back lunch and dinner. Variety menu. Highly recommend
The chicken katsu is absolutely delicious! Probably the best one I have ever had in Melbourne. Not many places in Melbourne do soba, given the price it was very very very good
Tokyo Table is a cosy and affordable Japanese restaurant located along Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn.
Visiting for lunch I ordered the zaru soba (cold soba with sipping sauce) which is perfect for warmer weather from the extensive menu. The serve of soba was generous and very filling. The service was friendly and in addition to the reasonable prices the tea was complimentary.
Overall I enjoyed my meal at Tokyo Table and give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. I’d love to go back and try one of the bbq dishes.
Amazing! Great value and unique menu.
Tonkasu ramen here is actually better than many other dedicated ramen shops. Flavours are deep but not oily.
Nagasaki Champon was probably my favourite of the night. The soup base is a bit lighter than tonkasu and there's a generous amount of seafood. You can't find this type of ramen anywhere else!
The wagyu BBQ was also great. I was amazed how much meat I got. It was easy to cook and so tender even with it cooked to well done.
The only down side is the queue and no booking. Wait for getting a table especially for more than 2ppl can be quite long.
One of my fav dish from Tokyo Table is actually their chicken w curry. But recently they’ve added teriyaki noodles into their menu. I’d definitely recommend everyone to try their seafood teriyaki noodles if you don’t feel like having curry & rice. Nevertheless, they’ve also have amazing Wagyu barbecue. The only one down side for this restaurant will be the lack of air ventilation, so you’d probably stink like food after dining in. Waitresses are always quick and polite.
only review needed: BEST JAPANESE IN MELBOURNE HANDS DOWN!!!!
Absolutely loved this place, service was amazing and food was so good! We were going to order quite a few dishes but the kind lady serving us told us that it would be too much food for us to finish so she helped us order the perfect amount of food. Would definitely come back again!!
What to have on a cold day when your in a rush?
Unagi Don and Katsu Curry Don.
It is a small little Japanese resturant with a wide selection from the menu.
Staff are friendly but would say the food is amazing.
I found that my Unagi Don little tough and salty.
The Katsu Curry Don was nice but too much curry sauce which ended flooding the dish.
If your not to fussed with quality of food then its a cool little joint. I guess comparing from a beautiful fresh Unagi Don I had the other night, it made this one not so good.
Worth a try :)

It’s simple basic Japanese food for good prices.
Only thing lacking is the raw sushi, sashimi range. Not many fish options.
Staff are friendly, you can get seated quickly and free tea is the best.
A couple of spelling typos on the menu which is funny because my boyfriend almost ordered the chichen katsu. 😂
I love Tokyo Table. It’s my go to local Japanese and the food is great. The staff are so friendly, the food always comes efficiently, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. I also have dietary requirements and they remember every time. Highly recommend
Been there couple of times, for sure, the best fried chicken in Melbourne. Crispy outside and tender inside, skin tightly wraps meat making the tastes better. Also, it is the best fried chicken I've had in my life, said from a chinese stomach.
It is a quite good place for eating alone or maybe with one or two friends. I had a Japanese bbq. Beef is great except the soup is a little bite under expectation.
Ordered: sliced bread crumb beef and unagi don
LIT!⭐️: the sliced bread crumb beef was unique. It’s like a cute mini bbq, so you cook it yourself.
The unagi don was full of flavour, but wish there was more unagi.
NOT SO LIT: flavour wise it was good, but wouldn’t say it was outstanding.
Overall, a good place for a quick satisfying lunch
Recently discovered this restaurant over the New Years. Everything I've ordered on the menu is spot on. I even find the Tonkatsu Ramen better than Hakata Gensuke's. Love the springy noodles and not too heavy pork bone broth. A notable dish to order is also the Okinomiyaki! Tokyo Table just get's it right! The Wagyu Beef on a mini bbq is also a very delicious meal to have.
A small and unassuming Japanese restaurant that delivers on quality, taste and service. Big fan of their chicken and beef katsu - the latter of which comes with your own personal grill to cook to your liking.
**3.5 stars** A good restaurant that serves nice Japanese food. Albeit, I do know of some places that sell the same dishes for cheaper, still, this restaurant does not disappoint and does offer a wide variety of food. The ‘Zaru Soba’ (Japanese cold noodle) from the summer menu was refreshing and tasty. The ’Sake don’ (Sliced fresh salmon on sushi rice) was indeed fresh and filled the stomach well. We found staff to be friendly and attentive. Service was prompt. I also like the fact they serve customers tea as well as still water. Overall, our dining experience here was pleasant. I will come back here to try the ramen and BBQ soon. P.S. I suggest this restaurant re-print their menus as their current ones looks dirty and worn out. **NOTE: 2% surcharge under $15.
HANDS DOWN, one of the best japanese restaurants out there.
we tried the wagyu and the crumbed beef which were somewhere around $20 and $18 respectively. the quality of the meat was great, the sauce that came with it was amazing and on top of that, the salad dressing was the best kind i have ever had. the small grills for cooking the meat make it a good experience as there aren’t any restaurants like that.
the restaurant is very clean, and the atmosphere of it is very alike to japan! it has cool vibes and is such a great place to take your friends out to dinner.
the customer service here was top notch too! there was a young woman here who was very enthusiastic and cheerful. i cannot think of one bad thing about this place. i will, without a doubt, return when i can to try something new!
A homely and inviting setting with warm, attentive staff and food that reminds me of my own family dinners.
I had the tempura udon last time I visited and I love the broth, although it may not look like much it is very filling and comforting. I also really enjoyed the tea they offered, I think it’s roasted rice green tea? It goes well with the setting and food.
Overall, one of my favourite places to visit on glenferrie

A place which gives you homey Japanese feels. Staff serve hot tea once they get you settled in your table. If you choose their BBQ selections, they come in your very own personal grill. Portions are generous, and the flavors are just right.
Went here for dinner on a weekday. Had the number 61 on the menu. For $18 this is a steal for a personal grill dish. The meat was of good quality and service was impeccable.
We also tried the kimchi chicken which is fried chicken with cheese in a bed a kimchi. Never had something like that before so was a real treat.
Wife tried the tonkatsu ramen and it tasted great! I usually don’t like ramen cause some of the places have the broth/soup that tastes like smelly pork fat but this one smelled and tasted great.
We took our own wine for which there is a corkage of $2 per person. Wallet friendly meal when compared to getting good japanese food.
Greeted by really friendly staff, food came out quickly. The tan tan ramen was the best I've tasted in Melb and the chickenkatsu was incredibly tasty. We will definitely be coming back here to try the rest of the menu
The food is amazing! I've been there a couple of times and ordered different things! The staff are lovely and they gave us complimentary food for their food taking a long time (But it was only one meal) and everything that I have ever gotten there I've loved.
On my way around Melbourne's ramen scene, Tokyo Table.au in Hawthorn served up a wonderful Miso tonkotsu ramen and takoyaki combo. The ramen features moderately soft noodles in a mild, smooth pork and chicken broth with subtle but warming miso tones throughout. Alongside are bean sprouts, bok choi, shallots and a perfect half egg. Takoyaki is generous and flavoursome. They also do BBQ.
Shop is comfortable, staff are welcoming. Very happy with the visit.
No. Of Visit: 6
Notice: it doesn't open on Sunday.
I only come here for their Beef Katsu or Tenderloin BBQ set. $17.90 you get 200g+ of Beef, full bowl of rice and miso soup. The cabbage salad w/ garlic dressing is beautiful too.
You can also add extra plate of gyu tongue or beef brisket, for only $15, which is more than satisfying!
If you must order other things, try Ramen. Their curry is a little too ordinary. It's a small busy shop, so prepare to queue and wait for order to come during lunch/ dinner peak hours.
Authentic Japanese. Must haves - ramen & beef tataki. Vegetarian and vegan ramen & udon also delicious (we went vegan very recently). Always swift service. My go to for a nourishing and fairly priced meal.
Big portion of bento box and very yummy . Lovely smily staffs . Always come here or uber eat this place when i feel like Japanese food . Nice japanese decor inside the restaurant .
I thought the food was decent and price was good as well. I ordered BBQ beef with rice and beer and it was good. The place transported me to Japan. It looks like one of the Izakayas (Pub). Partner ordered Zaru Soba and enjoyed it. Quality of soba is good for that price. Will be back to try another few items on the menu.
Small little place with lots of options on menu . We ordered soba noodles , tempura and chicken katsu. Very generous portions . Simple dishes are done well here . Loved my chickenkatsu served with Mayo and some dark sauce , beautiful cabbage salad and miso soup ..Lots of rice too- that I couldn’t eat . Soba noodles were good too. Tempura I felt was a bit soggy . Definitely going back to try other options .
So happy with this place! Service is attentive and friendly and food is so so so good, feels like im back in Japan! Price is very decent. Would definately come back
Came here for lunch with a friend. The serving size for the chicken curry rice was generous and pretty tasty. The chicken was well cooked and perfectly crispy, the curry was a bit thicker than other versions I’ve tried at places in the area and less refined but nonetheless pleasent enough. Amazing not really but cheap and cheerful and pretty good absolutely
Have been a while since I want to try Gyu-Katsu. It was heavenly. Melt in the mouth, especially the raw one. Consequently, I didn't use the mini grill much as I prefer the raw beef with breadcrumbs to the cooked one. The contrast of texture between the juicy beef and the crumbs was really the highlight. Salad was fun to eat. The egg mayo dip also added different flavor profile to the already nice plate of food.
I've had lunch here twice now and both times is was great. Friendly staff, good food and quick service. I believe there's a lot of room inside for large groups, or there's also two tables outside so that you can sit in the sun and watch the world go by.
Very nice and friendly staff and business owner, great food and they always go the extra length to help suit everyone's dietary requirements. Will come back again when in the area. :)
Their new menu is truly a bomb. We are local and came here a few time already. They were pretty average with food etc. But today to our surprise, menu was entirely changed. Beef bbq/tataki is now in a small set menu. We also had tonkasu kimchi nabe. Very generous portion. Creative and yum!!! Will come back to try the others.
Authentic and delicious! It is quickly becoming a favourite. Every dish we have tried was very tasty and perfect size. The staff are all very attentive. Great place for a dinner with friends
The noodle was the most delicious I have ever eaten in melbourne. Especially spicy one is so great salmon salad is also tasty. I strongly recommend to visit and try ...my family will definetely go back and enjoy it again ..yum yum...
Went along with another couple as part of Group-On Voucher using the Set-C menu option.
Was pleasantly surprised at the amount of food - and great service. One drawback (with so much food on different trays), table space was very cramped - so needed to rearrange glasses etc for all to fit.
Having been introduced, we plan to go back to try other menu options . . Thanks for the evening.
Simply incredible, the owner was incredibly kind and displayed amazing customer service after I accidentally ordered the Tokyo salad instead of the Chicken curry. As it was my carelessness I was fully prepared to indulge into my salad and be on my merry way, however when the kind owner noticed I was confused when the food arrived at my table, she quickly came and spoke with me and even added in chicken curry on top of my salad at no extra charge. I was in shock at how accommodating she was even though it was my mistake. Excellent customer service is a lost art in today's society however this cosy little Japanese restaurant is still eager to serve their customers.
The meal itself was stunning, the chicken curry sauce not too thick or too runny and the chicken was lightly fried, soft and succulent on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I highly recommend this place to anyone near Glenferrie to come and try great food that is delicious and affordable, as well as top notch customer service.
I will be coming back and bringing company with me regularly!
Here there is a new Japanese BBQ place in Glenferrie road where all the students were. We were going to go Camberwell but seeing how long the queues of cars were and the fact that we had to get replacement bus service meant that Camberwell was unviable. We also had to come back at a decent hour as someone has to work the next day. This place is not on zomato yet and it should- but its a few doors down from Ajisen and across the road from Santoni. We saw the big sign outside and that enticed us to go in. Inside it was warm and cozy and full of customers eating yanniku (Japanese BBQ with meat and make your own sushi- although one table could not work out what to do with theirs even though it was in the menu. So they left all their rice- what a waste). Luckily though the waitress explained to the next table how to cook their food.
What a find! The food here is incredible! Don't be fooled by the prices, this is cheap and cheerful done right. Pork Katsu are excellent, very crisp and juicy. The Karaage Chicken was large, crisp and tasty. The place was super busy but the service was fast and attentive. Lot's of variety on the menu to keep going back, which we will. Add this place to the rotation.
Came here for lunch, I’d recommend coming here before 12 noon if you can to avoid the lunch crowd. Ordered the zaru soba noodles as a healthy option and was happy with it. Prices I think are reasonable. Plenty of great choices in the area and I think this deserves to be up the top.
An amazing spot for dinner. Prices are affordable and the food is delicious, reminded me of when I was back in Japan. Service was amazingly fast as well for a Friday night! 100% recommend!!
I ordered the chicken karaage curry and it was delicious!! so filling in fact, that I actually couldn't finish the last two pieces because I was so full. A very good sauce to rice ratio.
My one critique was the confusion in ordering, there was no clear sign of whether you order from your table or go up to the counter. In the end I went up to give my order. I'd recommend to them perhaps setting up a QR code ordering system.
EDIT: on our last visit the new staff member was so unpleasant and rude to us that it has put us off from revisiting the restaurant again.
Very affordable and generous portions. The katsu wasn't the most authentic, but definitely still tasty in its own right. Relieved to see that they provided the typical sides (rice, miso soup, cabbage and bulldog sauce) for free. The green tea and sesame ice cream are the best we've had in this neighbourhood. It's usually very busy so it's best if you reserve in advance so that you don't end having to wait outside for a while. Would definitely recommend!
Cozy Japanese restaurant. Crisp original Karaage chicken (not those cheap bag frozen ones), tasty curry, flavourful ramen base and very interesting bread crumb beef. All served in generous portions and good value! Will be back for more.
Very tasty chicken karaage curry! It’s different from other chicken karaage that I ate in the other Japanese resto. This one is crispy and worked well with the curry. Also this Japanese curry is more like a soup than the thicker version of the curry. It’s a surprised for me as I have never tried this version of curry before.
Overall, it’s highly recommended!
