Generally, the F & C here are VERY good. There is great choice, service, and value. When it isn't (normally not major concerns), the owner responds positively and endeavours to rectify. I like this place a lot.
Saw a photo of their sweet potato cakes on Facebook and had to come try them! They're even more delicious than they look! So crunchy and golden on the outside! Also got one of the Reel Deal boxes and can't believe the value for money! The seafood is great quality and you get so much in the box! Really impressed, will be back for sure!
Tried these after a game of football. It seems pricey but the serves are gigantic! The fish is very fresh and all the sides were great as well. Will return again as we walked away very happy.

We ordered the double pack and had enough to feed four. Fish was not as fresh as I would've liked with a strong fishy taste. Chips are nice but need some more seasoning.
Been going to Hooked Fish and Chipper once or twice a week for ages! Try not to miss their BaraMondays! Good healthy food. Great Staff! Only hope the front door will fixed before winter arrives! Highly recommended by a very fussy health conscious patron! Thank you guys!

Come here often for their $10 lunch deal; fish burrito and chips (other options too) which is always great value and I LOVE their 20% discount on Tuesdays for Hawthorn locals (uni student here, love me a discount) HOWEVER..
This place is just missing something! The staff are lovely, the food is good - but only feels worth it when it's discounted. The fish is always well cooked but never tastes overly fresh, the salads are always slightly over-seasoned/dressed.
Perhaps I'll just stick to my lunch time deals Mon-Fri and be happy with that 🤗

Lunch at Hooked Fish and Chips. It's been on the list for years! Today we had a meeting nearby and made it happen! The offer is at all three locations: Fitzroy, Windsor & Glenferrie. Lunch Specials - Even on Weekends!. Yes we are local, but still lunch deals are better :P . Plenty of seats, though if you come during the lunch rush. Never fear! They do takeaway and you can hang out in the common areas or park next to the library down the road.

Anzac Day, there's not many shops opening in Hawthorn area. (Were meant to visit a Japanese cafe) We ended up going to hooked as my partner saids their fish and chips are quite nice.
Paying a bit extra for the surcharge on holidays - no worries. We ordered a lunch set with grilled fish and calamari, they aren't char grilled but it was freshly done makes a difference and chips are well seasoned not too salty and I love the calamari it was very tender.
The only thing to criticize is the seats were a bit filthy and sticky - maybe the dreadful weather I can see dead bugs laying around the window edge - needs more cleaning.
Service was friendly and attentive and under a less busy environment I did actually enjoyed my meal in a chill pace.
Thoroughly enjoyed all my experiences at hooked! Delicious fresh fish and seafood accompanied with gourmet salad and thick hand cut chips! Plenty of healthy options whilst you can also opt for the tradition battered fish and chips! Quite pricey, but they do awesome lunch specials so head down early and it's definitely worth it! Calamari was beautifully marinated and the salads exceeded expectations by far!
Love the mural on the wall! Very pleasant place to sit and have lunch. Speaking of which, the $10 lunch deal is fabulous value and tastes great. I had grenadier battered with chips and asian slaw as my choice of salad. Tasty. You can choose from 4 choices of salad, and you can choose to have your fish battered or grilled. Would eat here again for sure.
I always have a nice meal here. The food is good quality, tasty and good value for money. The calamari is really good and always tender, and the serving sizes are really big for the cost. I love their chips as they're soft, crisp and cooked well. The place is spacious, never crowded and looks authentic with nice fishing pictures and objects. There's lots to choose from and they have some nice gluten free options. If you're after some more upmarket fish and chips with a broad menu, I definitely recommend Hooked. The meals I recommend are the calamari and fish burrito.

Hooked is a wonderful lunch/dinner spot to meet up with some friends or eat at with your family. It's located right opposite Glenferrie station and there's also a large car park with free one hour parking behind it which is extremely convenient. I love the theme/set-up of the place and how there's such a chill vibe every time I go there. I've been to Hooked multiple times but I always end up getting their Soft-shell crab burger because it's so tasty! I've literally been to so many places but Hooked, in my opinion, definitely sell the best soft-shell crab burgers that are packed with flavour and yumminess! I'm not too sure about the rest of their menu but I often go with my sister and she always gets the grilled blue grenadier (with a side of chips and a salad) so I'm assuming that it must be pretty tasty too. The staff there are friendly and I didn't have to wait very long for my food to come out. Will probably be going back soon - I'm craving their soft-shell crab burger so bad right now haha!

Came here using a Scoopon voucher for a Seafood Selection for 2. Was excellent value for money, given that the voucher cost $20 and the Seafood Selection was of such a generous portion that it actually fed 4. The Seafood Selection included two battered or grilled Blue Grenadier fillets, fried squid, many battered or crumbed prawns, a large serving of chips and a store made mayonnaise based sauce. Though the squid and the chips were a little heavy, the other (and arguably more important) fried seafood offerings were beautifully crispy and light. In addition the sauce was of a high quality, and the service was efficient. Though we did not eat at the restaurant itself, opting for takeaway, it was noted that the surroundings were quite cool with their exposed brick rustic chic style. Though there was a slight mistake in execution of the order, with the prawns being battered rather than crumbed as requested, no one could possibly quibble over such small matters given the ridiculously good price.

Came for the lunch deal, $10 for grilled blue grenadier, asian slaw and sweet potato fries (extra $1). The fish was nicely grilled and seasoned, but the slaw lacked a punch in flavour - although it was crunchy enough from the addition of peanuts and fresh shredded vegetables. Loved the fries with crispy edges and tender centres!
I don't eat fish and chips often, so I might not be fussed about them. I tried this place because of scoopon voucher. I bought a takeaway although I like the interior of the place. The fish was very crispy on the outside, I can't complain. The other seafood like scallops and the calamaris aren't bad either. Chips are okay. The fish was huge. They say the voucher is for 2 people but I shared it for 3 people and we still couldn't finish it! Very generous portion. The only down side was the girl who was at the counter was not friendly.
How fish and chips should taste. Make sure to pick up some homemade Sambal sauce for the "best chips in Melbourne". The $10 lunch special is hard to walk past. I'm Hooked.
I visited Hooked at lunchtime on a Tuesday and tried the $10 lunch special of battered fish served with rice and asian slaw. The fish was crunchy and tasty, yet quite a small portion. The rice and asian slaw were good accompaniments, the slaw was a bit spicy but that's a matter of indiviual taste and preference. The service was great and quick, especially during the busy lunch rush. The interior was nice and had a nautical theme. Overall I had a good experience at Hooked and I would return to this restaraunt.
I really love this place. Healthy yummy salads, the chips are amazing and the fish is equally awesome. I don't really understand all the complaints about it. The staff are really nice too. The only thing is the tables need to be cleaned a bit more thoroughly but honestly it doesn't bother me especially since I'm paying $15 for an awesome dinner. Serving sizes are definitely not small. They are just right size. I don't want my plate heaping in food I prefer a normal portion but besides that they are big anyway. Great atmosphere.
Nice little place with a fairly simple menu. Had the Panko crumbed prawns with chips and aioli as an entree which was good. Got about 7 prawns and good size of chips and for $11 it was great value. Ordered the grilled Barra and rice which was also good. Potato cake was very very oily almost to the point of inedible and chips were ok but overall quite good and would go back... After a few visits to hunky dory before
Hooked Fish and Chipper is an excellent restaurant to enjoy unique fish dishes and other healthy food. It is my favorite place to eat in the Hawthorne neighborhood. If you are a fish aficionado this is a must place for you to visit.
...so my Grilled NZ Dory with Rice and Asian Greens ($14.95) was not fish and chips per se, but it was surprisingly delicious for something so virtuous. The fillets of fish were firm and moist, served with brown rice seasoned with a little bit of sweet soy, and vibrantly fresh greens drizzled with soy sauce and sesame oil.
Highly recommend this place!. My husband and I went went here for the first time yesterday for dinner, and it was the best fish and chips we have ever had. I had the Superfood salad and the grilled house fish and it was just beautiful! My partner had the fish and prawn tacos and they were so good!

A really Good Good Friday. I visited the store on Good Friday, expecting to wait for ages to receive my food because of just how busy the shop was, however i was delighted to find that not only did i receive brilliant service from staff, who were always smiling despite having to cope with the extremely busy period, I got quality fish and chips with barely any wait!

BEST FISH AND CHIPS. Loved the people, music, atmosphere and especially the veggie burger! I have a hard time finding actually nice gluten free buns but these buns are amazing and i can still have a gluten free potato cake on the side which i haven't been able to have for years so definitely go down to hooked for the best gluten free fish and chips
WOWZA. I come to Hooked nearly every week to get my sustainable fish and superfood salad, you guys are doing amazing and the lunch box meals are a great way to keep me coming back for more :)
Great Healthy Meals. If you want great salads and fresh fish you will love it here. They have brown rice and asian vegetables to go with the fish if you desire. This is one of my favourite take away style restaurants. My sons also like it. I have been to a few of the different Hooked locations and they all are just as good as eachother.
Not Being Koi. This place is Brill-iant. Students!! Stop downloading your internet prawn and come check out the waitresses here. The place is very so-fish-ticated and is quite a reasonable deal for students. You don't need to be a brain sturgeon to realise that this is a great place to go catch up with friends and not tune a guitar but to tuna fish. Sorry if my whiting sounds ridiculous but this place is just such a good op-perch-tuna-ty for good food you would be crazy to pass it up. So if you want some solid fish and potatoes then drop them a line and sinker.
Nothing fishy about this place!!!. I'm a regular at hooked hawthorn and i swear by this place! The food is fresh, the people are awesome as and the atmosphere is fully sick! Come at lunch if you're a student like me cause there's a student discount and lunch time special :) you guys are the best keep it up

Healthy, delicious & gluten-free batter. I’m pretty much hooked on hooked when I’m in the area for 3 reasons, the fish is usually fresh, they have lots of healthy options such as brown rice and Asian greens and the chips are delicious. What’s more they have gluten-free batter so I can actually get the fried fish. Yum!

Good. Went here for the first time after a 2 for 1 voucher was left on my car windscreen during a gym visit.
We both had the fish burger which was quite nice although I don't think the sweet chilli sauce goes well with it. The fish was tasty. Chips were also good but far far too salty. Price is on the more expensive side.
I understand this place is new so if they work on a couple of things, I think they'll get better over the next few months.
Enjoyed my lunch at hooked, had the house speacial with chips, would of veen nice to have a chips together with salad option but overall i enjoyed it!

Hooked is the brainchild of former DJ Ray Good (aka Sugar Ray), a British expat who grew up helping out at his uncle’s fish and chip shop. During his career as a DJ he got the idea for starting up healthy fish and chip restaurants and in 2006, he opened his first store in Chapel Street, then later started one in Fitzroy. The Hawthorn branch is the newest of the three, opening earlier this year. The store has gone with a maritime theme – bright whitewashed interior, old wooden furniture, and a multitude of picture frames adorning the wall.
