What a spot! Visited on a Friday afternoon when the skies were blue and the ocean air was teasing. I think as long as you take this place as it is, a SLSC, you'll have a great time. I had a cider and a fish burger and everything was A-OK. I particularly liked the chips that came with the burger, they were salty and deliciously crunchy. The rest of the party went for wraps and fish n chips, and seemed to be well chuffed.
Stopped by this club on The Esplanade for some sunset beverages. Located up a few flights of stairs, this lends itself for some amazing views of Henley Beach and the pier especially when the sun is setting as the balcony with its clear panels give an optimum view. Order and pay at the bar for the drinks and grab any available free seat. A LLB and a glass of sparkling red and we were happy campers on the balcony. It does get a bit cold at this time of year so we retreated back into the main bar area. Staff were very friendly.
We've been trying to get to the HSLC since its renovation given we're locals and we finally made it there for a recent dinner catch up with friends. Being the festive season on a Friday night in summer it was absolutely packed with families and friends enjoying their dinner so lucky that we had made a booking. It was quite noisy inside so we asked if we could move to the outdoor deck when a table was available. The views outside are spectacular as you look down the coast and out to one of the best beaches in the state and watch the sunset in front of you.
We ordered the seafood platter to share which was very reasonable priced and packed with prawns, calamari, 2 large pieces of fish, oysters, wedges and salad. The seafood was fresh and the fish was perfectly cooked. My husband doesn't like natural oysters so they substituted for Kirkpatrick for $2 extra. There was also aioli and tartare sauce with the platter. We couldn't quite finish it all between the 2 of us. Our friends ordered the beef which they said was tasty and well cooked and super filling. This came served with salad and chips.
They have a good choice of wines that are very reasonably priced and they also served cider on tap. They've also recently started serving breakfast and brunch and have a specials night with $12 schnitzel available. Don't expect fine dining, just expect good honest food and decent prices supporting a valuable organization in the Henley community. We will be back but are reluctant to tell many people about this place as we would love to keep it a secret.
