Went to the Surly last night with my friend and we had the most lovely night. The Surly is a lovely place to hang out - very relaxed atmosphere and very relaxed staff coupled with amazing food. We ate salmon pate/salmon gravalax/angus beef and lamb - a testament to local produce, it was high quality food executed brilliantly. I love the location, its like a well kept secret. Great German Riesling on the menu along with other local wines.....Get down there now!
Absolutely beautiful place, great customer serivice, amazing food, and friendly well informed staff, would reccomend to anyone in the area, their food is the best i've ever had.

My partner and I ate at The Surly Goat just last night. Not only were we welcomed warmly, both by the staff and the roaring fire, but we had a fantastic meal. We've heard great things and we were not disappointed. We'd highly recommend The Surly Goat for anyone visiting Hepburn Springs/Daylesford.
Had a wonderful dinner last night and The Surly Goat with its beautiful fresh food, warm and friendly hospitality has just been added to my list of top places to eat. My husband and I ate there last night on recommendation and it did not disappoint. Looking forward to another weekend away in the near future to visit this place again.

Delicious food every visit. Service is exceptional. This is a must lunch or dinner booking for anyone coming to central highlands. Still raving about the dinner we just had. Truly divine.
What a fabulous evening. Great big warm welcome from Simon and the girls. Fantastic selection of local wines, absolutely delicious food, fun happy atmosphere and the best Creme Brulee we have ever had! Loved it and can't wait to get back to Daylesford and visit them again! Cheers!

Food was delicious as was the wine with great service from the floor staff. Wonderful atmosphere set it all off and try the beef check!
We arrived quite close to their closing time, but they were still very happy to seat us and provided excellent service.
The food was enjoyable and reasonably priced for a tourist area. They’ve got a fireplace and a nice open dining area.
The best food in Hepburn, lovely staff and I can genuinely say this is a must stop! The bread, marinara pizza sand mussels were sublime. Finished it off with the most delicious donuts!!!! Wow, even the napkins felt like luxury, all without being overpriced! Congratulations Rubens
The team at Rubens were so lovely. Special shout-out to Dollar and Joseph who really went out of their way to make our meal special.
The salads were so fresh, the pastas were really flavoursome. Even the chips were good! Highly recommend to anyone in the area looking for a lovely meal. We loved it so much we came back the next night for takeaway pizzas!

Really really enjoyed our dinner at Rubens! Wow! After struggling to get a last minute booking for dinner in the area during Easter. Another restaurant rudely ask for my credit card details for the reservation, whereas Rubens were MORE than happy to take my booking. Being our last night in the area before heading back to Melbourne we wanted to eat somewhere nice and a bit special. Staff were great! Friendly, warm, welcoming and efficient!
Considering the reasonable price we paid, the food was AMAZING! I wish there were somewhere like Rubens in Melbourne that we could go to on the regular! The local bruschetta was a great choice which my partner chose and the locally sourced goats cheese from Meredith was to die for! So smooth and creamy! My partner ordered the spaghetti marina for her main and again, top notch! Tasty, fresh and a big portion too! Normally I don't tend to order chicken when I go out for dinner but the Dijon Chicken caught my eye and I am so glad it did! Grilled to perfection, not dry at all, smothered in a lush, velvety creamy white wine sauce with melted Camembert and tasty, crispy bacon to boot! If I could find somewhere locally in Melbourne for these sorts of prices, I'd probably be eating there every weekend. Well done Rubens, top notch fare, friendly, competent, warm and professional staff.
To top it off, we bumped into the chef as she was leaving for the night so we got to give our compliments to the chef. She took a moment to have a chat and even asked us what we ordered! Great experience and the perfect way to finish our stay in Daylesford before heading back to Melbourne. Will definitely go back there next time we're in the area!
