The food here is the best around. We travel for 20 minutes just to eat here. Lovely family run business with a great selection, friendly atmosphere and a bottle shop in the same complex for BYO. Never had a bad meal.
Looking for the tradition Malaysian taste? This is the best one you after!
Friendly staff, and dish portion is good. Fast serve and very tasty food. Reasonable price and definitely recommend my friend to come.
Was in the area and finding somewhere to eat. Found this place through Zomato. It was located in a quiet area that’s why the business seemed quiet. Looked through the menu, the prices were quite cheap and surprisingly the lunch deal was only $10.50. Has a great serving of Char Kuey Teow; flavored not only with the freshest ingredients, but also the elusive charred aroma from stir-frying the noodles over very high heat in a well-seasoned Chinese wok. It might be common for Malaysian but for me it was a bit oily but I still liked the way it was cooked and flavoured. It was one of the best I have had in Brisbane. Took away a chicken black bean sauce with steamed rice and a Nasi goreng. They both were quite nice and served in generous portions. Nasi goreng was a little lack of flavour, but cooked nicely. The lady owner was nice and friendly. Would like come back with my Malaysian mate.
I love the Fried Kwai Teow, Ipoh Ho Fun, Curry Laksa, Penang Har Mee. Most proper Malaysian foods in Brisbane. Staffs are super friendly. Everything is well priced, not too expensive.
We tried the Takeaway menu,
Sweet and sour pork,
Deluxe omelette,
Special fried rice and
Coconut rice.
Prawn crackers.
We were given friendly service on the phone, the food was ready to pick up and freshly cooked.
I liked the Sweet and Sour Pork, but would have like more of the delicious sauce.. which was not separate, as some places are doing.
Theirs was part of the dish, cooked with the pork and veges.
The Deluxe omelette was generous.. full of prawns and meat, and delicious.
The special fried rice was also tasty.
I would have liked a stronger Coconut flavor to the Coconut rice.
Downside were the Prawn crackers.
They had a slight bitter soapy taste, that made me think it could have been the oil it was cooked in?
But overall we felt the food was above average, and enjoyed our meal
It was a little bit pricey.. with our food nearly $50.
Regardless, having discovered and tried them, we WILL be back to try other dishes. 😊
Great food! Favourite dishes are butter prawns, chilli tofu , wa than hor and nasi goreng. Definitely will come back again soon. They have set lunch ( value for money)daily too
Went there for lunch on weekends. Located in suburbia I was surprised this place had lots of customers and was bustling when we arrived.
Welcomed by lovely staff we were soon seated and served water (also had option of tea).
Their lunch menu is extensive with most priced at $9.90!
Ordered Ipho Ho Fun and Seafood Mee Goreng.
Order arrived fairly quickly and was surprised by the huge portion of Ipho Ho Fun with fair amount of seafood!
Great cost performance ratio. I would come here more often if I lived close by.
I love trying a different dish every few weeks. Most hits some misses but that is only to my taste. Nasi Goreng is always awesome, service is always great.
This home-style family-owned business serves up some of the most authentic Malaysian food we've tried. Ya Hoo Restaurant is located in a humble area of Browns Plains and tucked away. Don't let its location deceive you as its appearance does not do its food any justice!
Firstly, visiting this restaurant on any day at lunch time, you will be given the lunch menu where there is a large range of dishes all for only $9.90! There are noodle dishes and several meat and vegetable options. All dishes except for the noodle dishes are served with either steamed plain rice or fried rice. The fried rice isn't the best I've tasted but is definitely cooked and seasoned well. We've visited Ya Hoo several times to order from their lunch specials menu and usually order some takeaway for dinner too! Even if you were to order whole plates of dishes for its price point it is very worth it. Large portions of food packed with flavour!
A must try and definite favourite at Ya Hoo is their marmite chicken/pork. Sounds deceptive, but it is one of the best things I've ever tasted. The flavours are manipulated perfectly (it doesn't really taste like marmite - similar to peking sauce/sweet and sour) and coats the deep fried chicken/pork so well. It is very easy to eat a whole plate of this shared between a family or in the lunch menu. I usually order the marmite chicken with fried rice off the lunch menu and all the flavours complement each other very well! The Ipoh hor fun is not as traditional as the ones you would taste in Sunnybank but is still very delicious! The portion size is large and the ingredients are generous. The beef rendang is also very tasty - the meat is flavoured well in the rendang and goes very well with the plain rice. Several friends have recommended the Hokkien mee claiming it was the best they've tasted. Upon trying this I do have to say it is very good however, I would not say it is 'the best'. I would definitely recommend trying this dish out if you're looking for some good Hokkien mee! The Malaysian char kway tiew was also really delicious. Since this business is not very commercialised and is still only a home business we found that many of these dishes have a very home-cooked feel. So, this dish is not covered in oil as many others are in other restaurants.
The staff at Ya Hoo are very attentive and helpful if you need anything. The owner is often working and she often interacts with her customers.
Overall, this restaurant serves up some amazing Malaysian cuisine and I would definitely recommend trying out their dishes (or even the lunch menu!) It is not quite what you would get in Sunnybank but this family-owned restaurant does its own justice through its food!
First time visiting. The prawn noodles are pretty good, big portions. excellent service. fresh prawn crackers. Authentic food and definitely a gem of a restaurant.
Eaten here several times and different dishes each time .
