Simply the best Vietnamese rolls around. So tasty and so cheap. Have to get in early cos they always sell out.
The line out of the door at lunch time confirmed that Mai's is still serving up great food. The banh mi still seem to be the most popular item followed by noodle salads. They also have a specials board and on this occasion I felt like something soupy so tried their beef noodle soup. Plenty of tender beef and lots of herbs. It was a good choice.
Mai"s is a Vietnamese takeaway, with some limited seating.
Food: rice vermicelli with grilled pork. Definitely fresh and also cheap ($8). Quality up there I reckon with many restaurants although it's a humble sized serving.
Ambience: as basic as it gets. I like the pot plants at the entry.
Service: definitely friendly and fast. Good order number system so that there are not mistakes.
Verdict: the place is pretty popular with local office workers. It's a great healthier alternative to burgers and pies for lunch. Can they do a good Banh Mi ?
Great tasting, fresh, reasonably priced food, what more could you want, Love love love this please. Friendly staff always have a smile to give when serving. Shop is clean and well presented
People - stop spelling it baHN mi. It's baNH mi. It's a Viet dish not a German road. With that out of the way, my review for this place...
Crusty bread, fresh ingredients, perfect meat to salad ratio, good pickle flavour plus a whole bunch of side options available. Pretty good all round. Mega points for having vegan options. It's listed as vegetarian, but they don't use fish sauce for their vegetarian options (which is a huge feat given this is Vietnamese). Only thing to keep in mind though is that the vegetarian roll uses tofu in a mock meat manner. This might unsettle some vegetarians / vegans but for me is a huge plus as the amount of effort in doing a mock meat tofu from scratch is definitely a few notches above just your regular tofu with lemon grass cliche.
Fresh ingredients and well made bahn mi. Slightly more expensive than others in the area but nothing to cry about. I had the combo and it was very nice. Nice quantity of chili also.

Yummy rolls and spring rolls, the combination roll is my favourite.
Whenever I can, I'll sneak in a combination roll with chilli from this place and it is just delicious, the chicken spring rolls are great too. Very well priced, super efficient and consistent.
