Review Tricycle Cafe - Hobart

Went with the family for breakfast. Eggs benny was spot on. Seating on the covered, heated patio was spacious. The team was customer-focused and provided service with a smile :) Thanks for a wonderful breakfast; we will be returning!

Cute little 'hipster' cafe, we tend to keep a lookout for restaurants like this one. Smaller menus mean to us they put more effort into what they serve, we weren't wrong with this little cafe. The coffee was great, although served earlier than the food so we had finished it before the food was served. I got the huevos el rancho, chili beans with a baked egg and my partner got the scrambled eggs. No complaints all around, we even went back another day but sadly they were closed as it was a public holiday.

Really really horrible service. Abrupt, Rude and border line foul. Ordering soup at 1.30pm should not be such a drama. Staff, possibly owner was certainly not keen on the order. Soup was good but the blatant lack of customer service ruins the 'good reputation' There were no other customers at Cafe and I chose to return with food from the market. I asked very polite if I could sit and join my wide who was having her soup. Her respond and subsequent passsive aggressive behavior was the turning point for us to turn the dine in to a takeaway. I tots understand why there is a need to implement a "no outside food" Signs around the cafe and on the table will help. Explain why will help. Passive aggressive rude service will see this cafe go down. The one star is for the soup.

Lovely staff and atmosphere. The mulled wine was a little too sweet with lots of pulp, but still nice. Delicious complimentary bread with it too.

Possibly the best coffee in Hobart. Really is a hidden gem. Worth finding. Nice place to sit and have a good breakfast. Highly recommended.

Not great experience. I waited food 40 minutes.

Nice relaxed café hidden at the back of a small mall. The Mexican/Mediterranean influenced menu was a bit of a surprise for the decor, but it was a nice twist for the breakfast items we ordered. The service was polite and efficient and the price was reasonable for the location.

There weren’t that many tricycles, but we especially enjoyed their music choice: Best of The Smiths!!

Most of the photos here are fake photos they are not in their menu. There is only one type of egg: scramble. Very a few choices for breakfast. Scramble plus to two slices of toast cost 12...

Great find tucked away off the waterfront. Warm spot with plenty of seating and solid coffee. Breaky menu did look good but we had already eaten. Staff were great and the vibe was relaxed!

Forget about coffee served in an avocado. Tricycle's version is much more tempting, filled with scoops of housemade genmai miso and blackbean miso. There's a complexity of savoury saltiness to each of them. The genmai, or brown rice miso, is my favourite, with its nutty butteriness.

A cute little cafe with a good vibe in the courtyard of Salamanca. The eggs were good but a little on the runny side, the place was quite busy but service was quick. Would go back.

Wouldn't be my first pick in the area, but still a good breakfast. They took a bit of time serving us, by which time the eggs were slightly overdone, but the flavour was still tasty and enjoyable. Coffee and chai was good too. Very cute location!

Foodie On The Road
Great tea, excellent cake! Could use some more craft beer, but not the worst I've seen. Good atmosphere, friendly staff .

Personally, rissoto isn't my thing but this cozy café tucked in a corner of Salamanca really surprised with with their rissoto special! I actually liked rissoto for the first time thanks to them! The crispy baby broccoli with minced radish and sunflower seeds. Super yummy! It's a special though. Home brewed chai tea was fantastic with the honey and frothy milk. Definitely will come again!

Love their classic baked eggs!! But when they do have 'special'/different renditions of this classic on weekends...?!!? M u s t try. Always exciting and good. Everything they put up on the chalkboard's seasonal and amazing. &&&, the coffee spoons are so strange and cute!!

This place was a nice little surprise. Salamanca is such a great place but it is a little lacking in food that matches the vibe.

The food here was really nice and it was a quaint little place.

Inviting. Enjoyed a coffee and scrambled eggs, all very tasty. Friendly service and pleasant atmosphere.
Would go back as lunch menu looked interesting.

You can always rely on Tricycle Cafe and Bar to get your weekend off to the best possible start. The menu is innovative, with a great selection of specials to keep things fresh.

Interesting fresh food, great service and coffee.. Tucked away inside the Salamanca buildings it's easy to miss.
Lucky for us we stumbled upon it on a quiet Friday before the weekend madness.
Delighted to find a friendly funky cafe that has an interesting and tasty menu.
We did a breakfast and lunch and both were exceptional. I had raspberry stuffed french toast and my partner had baked eggs.. Yum, good coffe and tea.
We came back for lunch the next day and that was lovely.. Brown rice, pickle and egg and a chicken and spicy slaw sanga and 2 wines.. More yum!
Friendly, helpful staff.
Highly recommend !

Not impressed with the service or the coffee and certainly not worth the 15 minute wait for a takeaway Cappuccino missing the sugar I ordered. There are so many better options close by.

Don't waste your time. We heard how good this place was.

Traveled from Melbourne. Met one staff member the night before who encouraged us to come back early the next day.

We returned the next and receieved a unapologetic "we aren't open today not enough staff".

don't waste your time. Go to Smoot nearby..much better and friendly.

Lovely. Such a lovely spot tucked in among the grain of Salamanca Pl. Great vinyl tunes - appreciated the Mount Kimbie & something old school playing in the background. Food was excellent & took a while, but the place was so busy so it was understandable. Their baked eggs and scrambled eggs are so tasty.

Beans! Get em, they're cheap n GOOD! This place is comfy and friendly

Organisation would make the work day so much better, which would make the staff a whole lot nicer to customers.. I came to Tricycle with high hopes, having heard they made the best coffee in Hobart. The little place was very busy, and had quite a line. Customers line up to order, find a spot to sit and after you have finished your drink/food you then line up to pay, in the same line as those waiting to order.

Suggestion to lighten the workload of the staff member taking the order, and reduce the time customers wait in line - TAKE THE MONEY WHEN YOU TAKE THE ORDER!

Lighter workload for staff = less stress = less rudeness directed at customers.

I requested to pay when I ordered and the person serving me (Saturday 26 April) was VERY reluctant to take my money when I ordered. I had to insist. Madness! She was then very rude to my friend with her many passive aggressive comments directed at us when she served her (after we lined up once again!) while she paid for her coffee and cancelled her cake order. There was confusion over a coffee which she thought we ordered, which we didn't, and which we weren't going to pay for. The comment from her about "Oh I must have made a mistake" was delivered in a very snarky tone, inferring we were liars.

Coffee was ok. Rudeness from the staff member we dealt with was pretty ordinary. Won't be back, and we will make sure we tell others how ordinary it was.

Understanding that the cafe is small and appears to be a popular venue, I found the service today by one particular person to be rude. The cafe was busy, disorganised, waiting stuff rushing everywhere and basically not enough staff to fluidly look after the clientele. After waiting 20 minutes for a slice of cake, we unfortunately had to leave. Instead I was served with a hearty slice of passive aggressiveness from a staff member who seemed to have no idea in how long I had been waiting. Her rudeness, due to maybe embarrassment for being under pressure, was uncalled for. She then proceeded to accuse us of not paying for all of our drinks. Her behaviour ruined our experience.

Great food but Breakfast does not = 830. The tricycle cafe is well positioned in Salamanca and makes great coffee and food. Opening at lunch time like hour of 830am for breakfast on a Saturday is hard to fathom, especially with hundreds of people scurrying around at Salamanca?

10/10 for the coffee. Great menu with a fresh simple flavour coupled with friendly service.

Chilli baked beans a must!. Busy place but came quite early on saturday morning as we had an early interstate flight. The place is quite cosy and cute with many tricycle decor everywhere. The chilli baked bean with feta is delicious and the coffee is nice.

Rude. A small group of us had to leave the Tricycle cafe after the waitress was extremely rude & unwelcoming. We tried putting 2 small tables together to enjoy breakfast and instead of kindly coming over with a smile & letting us know she wasn't keen on the idea which would have been fine, she spat snide remarks, rolled her eyes and stomped around. We were so shocked with her tantrum that we got the hint, left & went for a lovely breakfast around the corner where they were enjoying their day. I have never ever had such a unnecessary & rude experience.

Bonsoy!!!! That is the most important word to a soy drinker. Best coffee in hobart hands down and the food is amazing and a bit unique. They are busy for a reason here :)

Breakfast. Had the baked eggs which weren't too bad. wouldn't come here again because of thelimited break-fast range.

This place is lovely!. I really loved this place! The coffee was good to start with, the atmosphere was really nice and laid back and the food was really good! I had the chicken pie which was beautiful and creamy with an excellent pastry top! The staff were really nice and friendly too!

We had a lazy late lunch on a Saturday. Freezing cold outside but the little throws were a nice touch as were the heaters. Great lunch with excellent low key service. Definitely a place to visit again.

We had a beautifully tasty lunch here & sat outside on the street in the sun. Staff & service was great, food excellent, & pricing very good. Do go!

As difficult to find good coffee in Hobart, this little cafe tuck away in the arcade serve great coffee. They ran out of their special but kindly offer other options which is what I called a good service! The food may well be one of the best in town in terms of cafe food. Quick and delicious!

Had cheese and ham toastie with coffee. Great toasted sandwich with beautiful ham and gruyere cheese with zucchini relish. Lovely

Great Little Brekkie Place!. This great little hole in the wall, indoors at the back of Salamanca Place was very difficult to find. We actually gave up the first time, and on our second attempt finally located it only to find it was closed for the holidays. We really wanted to try it, so went back a third time.

This place is very small, and we were lucky to get the last table. I had the home made baked beans with feta, avocado, seasonal greens and sourough and my partner had the baked eggs. Both were great, as was the coffee.

The queue out the door for takeaway coffee was long. Lots of regulars by the looks of it. Staff were friendly and very efficient.

Great food, coffee and ambience. Service on the floor seemed a little disorganised though... Luckily we were not in a hurry!

How fabulous. Beautiful coffee, well made, well flavoured.
They know what a 'magic' is!

Terrifically fun and relaxed surroundings and gorgeous food - I want tricycle in my back yard :)

Amazing food, amazing coffee, amazing vanilla bean milk shakes, amazing service! We done! I'm glad we stumbled across this place :)

Get on your bike and get here!!. Had a pleasant breakfast here. Yummy blt and good coffee. My friends all had the beans and loved them.
Nice staff, good ambience. Recommended!

They serve coffee from Melbourne roasting superstars 5 senses, and a range of fresh, housemade small and large meals. One tip: if they have their chipotle beef flatbreads on the specials board, swoop in. Beautifully tender, flavoursome meat fills warm tortillas, along with bean puree, pickled chillies, sour cream and salsas (AU$18).

Tricycle Cafe is meant to be one of the top best coffee places in Hobart. Unfortunately I was sick from too much sun so had to pass on the opportunity, but the mild tea and cake was lovely. You can sick inside the little inside area, or the courtyard area outside. It's 'outside' but still covered, since Tricycle Cafe is part of the Arts Centre in Salamanca Square, where they have weekly Salamanca Markets every Saturday. Best to go on weekdays, since Market days are busy and you will have to be very very lucky to get a place in the cafe. There are little tricycles everywhere - hence the name. Lovely shops nearby, too. We hadn't actually planned on coming here on our first day, but we were so happy we had found it by chance. The food sounds great but you will be lucky to find a table here. Great spot to watch Salamanca Market come to life...

Tricycle Café is the perfect place to grab a coffee. Conveniently tucked at the back of the Salamanca Art Centre, you can refuel for some more culture and history with a healthy breakfast trifle or beetroot salad.

Established in 1985, Wursthaus is an essential stop for serious food lovers. A European deli-style experience comprising a deli, butcher/charcuterie, catering kitchen, cooking school and premium wine and cheese shop, it's the kind of place I could happily browse for quite some time before stocking up on pantry essentials, supper and a treat or two.
