We came here for a late lunch after not eating all day and were in a rush but still ordered the big breakfast for two. It was a strange decision in hindsight because of how little time we had and the time it took to bring out (over half hour!) but my goodness was it worth it!!!
Mushrooms, eggs, bacon, halloumi, toast, beans, tomatoes, spinach, relish all came out in little dishes with tongs. We had great fun shovelling food down and it was soooo yum. The standouts were the scrambled eggs (huge serving size), bacon, toast and halloumi. I have never had halloumi as nice as the way this was cooked. My husband particularly loved the mushrooms. It was such a nice little spot with amazing food he wants to return tomorrow! I don’t know why more cafes don’t offer a big breakfast for two. It was just perfect.
Wandered in for breakfast this morning, good coffee and the poached eggs on rye were perfect. A warm feeling in my belly in a crisp morning.
One morning, breakfast at the conference was muffins and fruit. I silently turned around and reached for my phone to search for the nearby cafes I had bookmarked. The nearest one was Cafe Lola and I was extremely glad I found it. Cafe Lola is located right on the wharf and it’s hard to miss – just follow the coffee-centric signs.
Delicious food. We had the lola pods. Salmon was fresh, lamb kofta was amazing. Coffee was a bit burnt though, otherwise would have given it 5 stars
Our last day in Tassie, we wanted something quick and good. This cafe seemed busy with the locals, so we went in and ordered Brekkie paleo pod with eggs, spinach and smoked salmon for $15.50. Took them a while, but it was worth the wait!!! It was delicious!!!
Had a 'Lola pod' for lunch and was presently surprised. Healthy, cheap and quick. Would recommend going here to anyone for lunch. Staff were also very friendly and helpful.
Absolutely love this place. Food is to die for. Generous, fresh and delicious. Our favourite cafe in Tassie. We found this place by accident but returned again and again. Highly recommended!!!
Great fresh healthy food and delicious coffee and lovely and friendly staff. One of the best places for breakfast and lunch. I wish it opened everyday!
Time for a Gush AKA Wish I could lunch at Sullivans Cove everyday,
We visited Tasmania for 2 weeks in January and spent 1 week in Hobart. In that time we went to Lola for lunch 3 times, enough said? Should we end the review here? Nope
My food education has come from time in Melbourne and Perth and over the last year has extended to paleo/primal/clean eating. As a result of bigger town experience (if you can call Perth a bigger town) I had trepidation when in Hobart wondering if I could have tasty food which wasn't full of gluten, preservatives and the like. So like any other person I consulted the boffins of the web and picked out 3-4 likely cafes and restaurants in Hobart to cover a few meals and resolved to wing it on the rest of the meals for the sake of my kids sanity, after all who can deny kids chips on holiday at a seaside town.
We ended up by dint of chance at Lola espresso on the first day and we were utterly sold. We all had the Lola pods with various components and they were delicious. I cannot remember all of the elements given the shameful delay in the writing of this review but some 5 months later I can still taste/remember the grilled polenta (I am not sure but I think there might be Heroin in this because I was dreaming about it for days and quite was PO'ed when we got there after 2pm and they had run out - "ohhh the nerve") and the pulled pork.
Seriously the pods are great (verging on epic)* and between the 4 of us over 3 visits we had 13 (I might have had a double...just once). In addition as a pretentious long mac snob their coffee is A grade and the upside downy apple paleo dessert (sorry cant remember the name) was to die for.
One criticism is that as a harbour front cafe the ambiance is "dinner date" quality but then neither is the price reflective of this. So you cant really quibble with this
As you can probably guess I really loved this place and would wholeheartedly encourage people to go there. You should manage your expectations, this is not a nouvelle-cuisine-throw-all-the-ingredients-at-the-dish-you-can-regardless-of health" place, it is a place you can have really, really yummy food for a great price in a great location and respect your body.
Well that is it.....please come to Perth Lola Espresso!
Noel
* PS - As a post script I forgot to mention that as a bigger guy (tall not fat - okay a bit fat, what do you want from me) the pods were very filling. Particularly if you choose protein rich main component.
Came here for breakfast and had a nice meal
The pancakes were made well although slightly more dense than usual but dripping with syrup and with the traditional bacon and banana was fully satisfying
Milkshakes were milky with a hint of caramel in my case were not the overtly sickly sweet usual offerings that one would normally expect and a nice refreshing touch.
One of the better places we ate at on our visit to Hobart and therefore recommended to satisfy your breakfast needs
