Noticed this place over the weekend when we were in Hobart for a holiday. Stayed in North Hobart so drove past a few times and it looked great! A friend then recommend it who had been a few months earlier, so we went one night for dinner. The pizza was the best I've had in aaages (and we eat a lot of pizza so that's saying something) and the bar staff were great fun, letting us stay back to enjoy out drinks while they were closing up! Went back a few days later for brunch, had delicious coffee and breakfast! The sourdough was amazing! Staff always happy and friendly which makes for a great atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone visiting and would go back in a heartbeat! Thanks xx
Several of my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed brunch on Sunday... Staff were friendly and engaging.. Food was amazing... It was my first but certainly not my last meal at this fabulous establishment... Highly recommend
I dined at Room a Pony for breakfast this morning with my girlfriend, and ohhh my goodness oh my damn, it was delish.
The crispy bacon - dayyyyumm.
Those soft eggs - dayyyyumm.
The friendly staff made some great menu recommendations and the atmosphere was warm and cosy.
That creamy latte - dayyyyumm.
And the creme de la creme was the freshly baked cookie I ate to round off a flawless meal was amazing.
P.s. I will be coming back for the poutine waffles!!
Beautiful amazing food! Wonderful friendly place and staff! Thankyou for a lovely meal!
Recommend this place at anytime of day. My happy place in Hobart.! Alway stop by for a drink when I'm in town. Staff and management are awesome.! 5 stars.!
Amazing coffee, delicious food, prompt service. I had the Potato Gnocchi with Smoked Ham Hock Broth. Omg amazing flavour and an absolutely yummy warmer for a cold winters day. It was served quickly and my almond latte equally as delicious. Great place. Loved the atmosphere. Very chilled. Thumbs up from me.
Atmosphere was great, staff friendly. Food was yum. Very busy place as could see people trying to find free tables. They did forget one of our drinks but we didnt mind and they wrre so sorry and offered to make for takeaway nut we wete happy for them to just take off the bill as they supply water at the tables.
Fabulous food! There’s not many eating establishments I can honesty say, leave me feeling totally satisfied, but RFAP certainly delivered! Bonus points for serving our food on warm plates.
Food is always fantastic & the service is great! The best place to go! 🍴☕️👌🏻

I love this place! Sitting outside on a balmy winter's day. I would say that the coffee is very hard to beat in Hobart. Truly barista made! Healthy soup and sourdough toast. Be back to try more on the menu for sure.
Food is yummy, coffee great, staff good, the joint is all around cool baby.
HIghly recommend - the best spot in North Hobart. They cater for all tastes and have plenty of yummy healthy food. The staff were very friendly as well
Room For a Pony is cool. It’s the coolest spot for brunch in Hobart. The staff are super friendly, the coffee is awesome and the food tasty. I love their healthy options such as the ‘Breakfast Greens’ of baby spinach, broccoli, snow peas, asparagus, zucchini and poached eggs on sourdough toast with a umeboshi dressing (pictured). I’ll be back next time I am in Hobart. #roomforapony #hobart
Our last cafe stop before we headed out of Hobart! We decided some caffeine was needed so had a Mocha and friend had a Flat White. The blend was nice though slightly strong, it was just what we needed. The service was nice. Lots of people dining al fresco as it was a nice day outside. Very dog and child friendly.
Outstanding! Traveled up from Sydney and had a few disappointing cups of coffee and brunches around town. Room For a Pony is definitely a very memorable experience. Courteous and chilled staff. Coffee was good and the food was amazing. We had the Chinese Fried Egg and poached eggs on toast with bacon and smashed avo with feta. Definitely recommend a side of bacon and DEFINITELY the Chinese fried egg! 6 stars!!
Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Traveling, and have found this place to be the best cafe in Hobart. When you see the size of the courtyard, you'll understand why it's called "room for a pony"; Because there is. Friendly staff, and menu items you won't find anywhere else.

Being new to the Hobart dining scene, I scoured countless café menus before deciding upon Room For A Pony based upon their Hawaiian-inspired loco moco breakfast. Y’all know how I live to eat something different... Located in North Hobart – an area touted as being similar to Sydney’s Newtown – it’s situated in a former petrol station. My flavour-seeking dining companion went diving for a bottle of chilli sauce as soon as we pulled up under a brightly coloured umbrella at a picnic table on their AstroTurf lawn. Turns out his fervor for additional flavour was unwarranted – Hobartians are much better at chilli than we Sydneysiders. Loco Moco ($18) takes a tasty beef patty, plonks it on a mound of white rice, tops it off with two fried eggs, and then surrounds the lot with jalapeño gravy. The gravy was so good I’m itching for a recipe to be able to make it at home – it’d work on everything from turkey to fried chicken. And no extra chilli sauce was required! Created in a wok, my Chinese Fried Chilli Omelette ($17) was also...
We came here for breakfast on our last day in Hobart and it was a fabulous farewell! Breakfast offering were varied and many...it was difficult to choose. I settled on the house made crumpets with whipped ricotta, lemon curd and quince (with a side of bacon because bacon goes with everything!) and it was DELICIOUS! A generous serve of seriously tasty fare...I was full but could have eaten another helping just to keep the taste in my mouth. Unfortunately our Uber arrived before I had time to peruse the menu again. If I’m back in Hobart you’ll find me at Room for a Pony!
Friendly staff and nice food on Sunday morning.would try other food next time.🐵 It better go with ur friend or family. nice outside seat location if it is a sunny day.

Based on recommendations we tried Room For A Pony and we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a latte which was excellent, a great start. And for my meal the Eggs Benedict with a side of avocado. Serving sizes are huge and I'm almost certain they used a whole avocado for my dish, really pleased. Poached eggs cooked great and the burnt butter hollandaise sauce was nice but a little on the oily side. My fiancée ordered the Rosti and I had a few bites, it was super tasty and the pumpkin was amazing, I had food envy during our meals and wished I had gotten the Rosti instead. But still pretty happy with my decision. Service was a little mediocre and we waited a long time from when we sat down to when we ate but they were also pretty busy so it's understandable.
Visited here while on holiday in Hobart due to the amazing reviews. The coffee was really lovely and the food seemed good, but not next level outstanding. Between four of us we ordered the smashed avo x2, the fruit bowl and bacon and eggs. Perhaps the simplicity of our order is the reason why. The fruit bowl did look nice, but I expected something special with the avo on toast. As mentioned though, the coffee was lovely and the service decent.
Room For a Pony and its staff are a true asset for North Hobart. The food was delicious and the coffee was great! Prices are reasonable and food options were good. There is plenty of seating and the staff are super friendly and helpful! I will definitely return the next time I visit Tassie.
Absolutely phenom coffee and great food.
Love the fit out and staff were friendly.
I got the avocado + feta smash with poached egg, and hubs got the most gorgeous looking soft scrambled eggs with pork chipolatas.
A very nice cafe located a little out of the way of the Hobart CBD but it's totally worth the visit for the food! The staff were very friendly and the cafe decor is simple and neat. I ordered the pulled pork and waffles at the time of my visit though I have been recommended the ricotta pancakes too.
Lunch with family - delighted with food (pulled pork burrito bowl, sushi rice bowl, potato roesti) ... Everyone declared themselves very satisfied. Coffee wasn't as good as it could be, although they were happy to re-make one which was less than satisfactory. Decor is a bit confused!
Wasn't sure about this place at first. 8pm on Thursday and very few people. The people who were there weren't eating, only drinking. Gave it a go and pleasantly surprised. Bar person who served us was very friendly and suggested chicken wings, slider and cauliflower. Chicken wings were very tasty. More sweet soy than five spice. A bit expensive though at $12 for 4 wings. Cauliflower was nicely toasted with spice and tahini gave it a nice additional bit of flavour and creaminess. Slider was good but nothing special. It was larger than I expected given it was $9.
Imaginative and generous breakfasts for all at Room For a Pony.
I liked the venue, which holds more than first meets the eye. Most importantly, the menu had numerous tempting dishes - if only we had a few extra days to sample more! Mashed potato in the morning was something new for me, which came with smashed avocado, poached eggs, toast and was well seasoned. I also tried the Nutella French Toast; a very rich and satisfying option for the sweet tooth.
Very cool spot! We really enjoyed the space and character. We had a delicious brekky here. Nice chai tea and we appreciated the offer to have it milk brewed. Relaxed and family friendly atmosphere.
Probably one of the best cafes I've been to. The staff were incredible, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Turned up with a group of ten and no booking and absolutely nothing was too much trouble.
amazing service. we came in as a group of 10 and they didn't blink an eye. super accommodating, food on point and coffee was delish. thanks guys!
Nice and cosy spot for breakfast or lunch. Main street facing seats+sunshine+lovely food. Interesting to find quite a few people having late breakfast on a Friday morning like me...ordered latte and avocado&Feta smash on toast. Beautiful. Should dress less lemon on it though. Definitely recommend.
9/10 Coffee and better than decent lunch.
I will preface this review by saying that we went to Room for a Pony repeatedly I Jan this year.
We have 3 rounds of coffees on a takeaway basis and they were as it says aboue 9/10 (but a bit of a wait but who said perfection is instant).
One lunch there was very tasty (Thai beef noodle and smoked salmon pancakes are recommended).
I feel a bit aggrieved that the staff were so good looking that it makes you feel bad about yourself.....be ugly people please!
No really a very solid choice cant go wrong!
Very Hungry Noel
Delicious food and the best coffee I've had in ages. Try the miso mushrooms! Great, friendly service too. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Excellent food, service and a great atmosphere! 5 of us came in for breakfast in the middle of the week. Loved it and will definitely be back!
Room for a Pony was sort of disappointing but I still had a nice morning..
The menu was really unappealing & unimaginative, and had very few options without meat... We both ended up ordering something basic (avo on toast & eggs on toast) and adding mushrooms... The food was nice. Mushrooms were piping hot and flavourful. Coffee was good. Staff were fine.
I'd like this place more if the menu was more creative and relied less on meat.
Maybe vego breakfast with roasted tomato and eggs with chimichurri or something flavourful.
I really like Room For a Pony. It has a great indoor/outdoor space decked out with umbrellas for a lovely Sunday brunch. The food and coffee here are of great quality. Service with a smile from young and down to earth staff.
Enjoyed a lovely breakfast and coffee here. The menu is inspired and diverse and staff graciously cater to dietary requirements, providing alterations to items where requested. Perfect long macchiato (always a test of a barista!) and my avo on toast was expertly seasoned, made special!
Arrived for breakfast on a super busy morning. Floor manager did a great job of keeping track of who was next in a very abstract queue. Wait staff switched on, chilli omelet on rice original and tasty.
A pretty good location, but what sets it apart from the rest is the coffee... Totally amazing and nothing like I've tasted before, and certainly locally. As a long black drinker, there's nowhere to hide for the taste, and this is beautiful!
Very nice coffee and breakfast at a reasonable price. I had a magic and then a piccolo alongside poached eggs, sourdough toast and bacon. Everything I could have wanted.
Friendly service however when we went our orders were extremely messed up including the drinks. When the right food arrived there was sincere apologies from staff and the food was good too.
Me and my partner came here visiting from Melbourne. I had the Chinese chilli omelette with toast and my partner had scrambled eggs with avocado smash, baked beans and mushrooms. All the food was delicious, with generous portions and the chilli omelette especially was done in a unique and creative way. Had amazing coffee as well - all round a great experience! Definitely highly recommended.
A trendy little spot for brekky - the chilli omlette is sooo good. Last time I went I had the huon mushrooms with smashed peas and feta on toast which were also very tasty. Room for a Pony separates itself from other cafes in the NoHo strip with it's advantage of outside space. People go here with their pooches and prams and enjoy the Hobart sunshine. The interior is really fresh, quirky and spacious but it does feel a little awkward sitting outside without my screening on the busy street corner feeling like the banked up traffic is watching in on you. Some greenery, or a hedge or something might make the space a little more intimate. Service has been good every time.
Enjoyable meals & warm service. Really like this pleasant cafe. Warmly greeted by a waitress who was helpful and knew the menu well. Tasty chilli omelette and excellent veggie burger. Great coffee and flourless orange cake a highlight. Like the outdoor area with small cosy blankets for a cooler day. Will return.
Great vibe and staff, food was fast and so delicious and a good serving size. Will definitely be back there :)
Awesome!. Absolutely delicious food, cold pressed juices, great coffee and fully licensed! The menu is refreshingly interesting, not the same old tired things and the staff are fabulous! Cannot recommend highly enough!
Nice menu. The first thing I noticed is the openness to the street. The owners need to invest in more screening of the busy roads that RFAP faces. Buy some established plants and create a green buffer already!
I ordered the Thai beef salad that was fresh and crunchy. It did need some seasoning IMO though I utalised the salt provided in small bowls on the table.
Coffee was good and my dining partner enjoyed the 5 spice chicken wings. Also, the fresh juice he ordered was delicious.
The menu is interesting and I am keen to go back for other dishes.
Passed the basic toast+coffee test. There's promise if a basic order for toast and coffee is done well. The pony delivered both at 10/10 today. Hot, pigeon hole toast, generous slices. Plenty of real jam. , and room temp butter. I wanted the coffee hot and strong. Yes. Delicious. I'll be back now that they have hooked me with the basics. Could be noisy? Not sure.
The corner of Elizabeth and Burnett Streets has been a NoHo void, most recently selling windscreen wipers, the former servo has been given the ultimate makeover.
Few NoHo and CBD cafes get the full force of the morning sun. At Room for a Pony they’ve taken advantage of their location with plenty of outdoor seating and courtesy sunscreen. You might watch cars go by but you’re outside and there’s space.
The design enjoys its fifties heritage and there are quirky additions like stainless steel buckets that grow vines up the trellis wall that separates the front of house from the café tables.
Room for a pony has been created by Mendel and Drew. Mendel is ex-Knopwoods along with chef, Christian Allen.

A great place to enjoy quality food amongst friends.Go there, you’ll love it!
What a lovely surprise to finally visit this delightful indoor/outdoor cafe/restaurant.
We popped in for a quick drink this evening & wish we'd had more time to enjoy some fabulous wood-fired pizza. (Next visit will be a must).
A wonderful ambience awaits you as does a team of attentive, friendly, professional staff.
Highly recommended - do try this lovely establishment. ☺️
I must add, that generous gas heaters are placed for your comfort around the outdoor tables and, the background music permits conversation to flow easily.
Loved this place. A sprawling corner block in a very trendy part of Hobart. Seating for all purposes either outside, covered, inside high or low tables. Very friendly staff for a busy Sunday morning and the Bloody Mary was made to perfection. The eggs for both the rosti and scrambled were great. Highly recommend a stop here when you're next in town!
A charming and cosy spot for a meal regardless of the time of the day. Great coffee and delicious food. The Fried Chilli Omelette and Gado Gado both boast amazing flavours, as did the Scrambled Silken Tofu - a most enjoyable meal. Love the coffee too!
Really nice place for a morning brunch, fantastic atmosphere with a lot of outdoor seating. Their coffee is great and the Chinese fried chilli omelette dish was incredibly flavourful, the potato rosti was nice too but will need to settle with second place. We also grabbed some banana and raisin bread to go and it was a bit too sweet even for my sweet tooth.
Great place for breakfast, brunch….we tried the spicy omelette and the smash avo. My lord, it was sooooo goooooddd 🤤🤤 especially smash avo, the best 👌🏻 that sourdough from the pigeon whole bakers made it even more delicious 😋
We enjoyed our time here, will be back for sure. Tx
Such a beautiful place, any time of day. Lively atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food and coffee! Also, there is room for your pony!

📝: Room for a Pony is cute little cafe in a former petrol station petrol on North Hobart’s busy Elizabeth Street cafe.
❤️: We loved all our dishes. I loved my Gado Gado—though not traditional like the Gado Gados you find in Indonesian restaurants, but it tasted amazing. It was a tasty mixture of pumpkin, greens, kimchi, fried tofu and poached egg, topped with their homemade peanut sauce. Recommend visiting if you’re brunching in Hobart!
