Noticed this place over the weekend when we were in Hobart for a holiday. Stayed in North Hobart so drove past a few times and it looked great! A friend then recommend it who had been a few months earlier, so we went one night for dinner. The pizza was the best I've had in aaages (and we eat a lot of pizza so that's saying something) and the bar staff were great fun, letting us stay back to enjoy out drinks while they were closing up! Went back a few days later for brunch, had delicious coffee and breakfast! The sourdough was amazing! Staff always happy and friendly which makes for a great atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone visiting and would go back in a heartbeat! Thanks xx
Several of my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed brunch on Sunday... Staff were friendly and engaging.. Food was amazing... It was my first but certainly not my last meal at this fabulous establishment... Highly recommend
HIghly recommend - the best spot in North Hobart. They cater for all tastes and have plenty of yummy healthy food. The staff were very friendly as well
Room For a Pony is cool. It’s the coolest spot for brunch in Hobart. The staff are super friendly, the coffee is awesome and the food tasty. I love their healthy options such as the ‘Breakfast Greens’ of baby spinach, broccoli, snow peas, asparagus, zucchini and poached eggs on sourdough toast with a umeboshi dressing (pictured). I’ll be back next time I am in Hobart. #roomforapony #hobart
Our last cafe stop before we headed out of Hobart! We decided some caffeine was needed so had a Mocha and friend had a Flat White. The blend was nice though slightly strong, it was just what we needed. The service was nice. Lots of people dining al fresco as it was a nice day outside. Very dog and child friendly.
Outstanding! Traveled up from Sydney and had a few disappointing cups of coffee and brunches around town. Room For a Pony is definitely a very memorable experience. Courteous and chilled staff. Coffee was good and the food was amazing. We had the Chinese Fried Egg and poached eggs on toast with bacon and smashed avo with feta. Definitely recommend a side of bacon and DEFINITELY the Chinese fried egg! 6 stars!!
Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Traveling, and have found this place to be the best cafe in Hobart. When you see the size of the courtyard, you'll understand why it's called "room for a pony"; Because there is. Friendly staff, and menu items you won't find anywhere else.

Being new to the Hobart dining scene, I scoured countless café menus before deciding upon Room For A Pony based upon their Hawaiian-inspired loco moco breakfast. Y’all know how I live to eat something different... Located in North Hobart – an area touted as being similar to Sydney’s Newtown – it’s situated in a former petrol station. My flavour-seeking dining companion went diving for a bottle of chilli sauce as soon as we pulled up under a brightly coloured umbrella at a picnic table on their AstroTurf lawn. Turns out his fervor for additional flavour was unwarranted – Hobartians are much better at chilli than we Sydneysiders. Loco Moco ($18) takes a tasty beef patty, plonks it on a mound of white rice, tops it off with two fried eggs, and then surrounds the lot with jalapeño gravy. The gravy was so good I’m itching for a recipe to be able to make it at home – it’d work on everything from turkey to fried chicken. And no extra chilli sauce was required! Created in a wok, my Chinese Fried Chilli Omelette ($17) was also...
We came here for breakfast on our last day in Hobart and it was a fabulous farewell! Breakfast offering were varied and many...it was difficult to choose. I settled on the house made crumpets with whipped ricotta, lemon curd and quince (with a side of bacon because bacon goes with everything!) and it was DELICIOUS! A generous serve of seriously tasty fare...I was full but could have eaten another helping just to keep the taste in my mouth. Unfortunately our Uber arrived before I had time to peruse the menu again. If I’m back in Hobart you’ll find me at Room for a Pony!

Based on recommendations we tried Room For A Pony and we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a latte which was excellent, a great start. And for my meal the Eggs Benedict with a side of avocado. Serving sizes are huge and I'm almost certain they used a whole avocado for my dish, really pleased. Poached eggs cooked great and the burnt butter hollandaise sauce was nice but a little on the oily side. My fiancée ordered the Rosti and I had a few bites, it was super tasty and the pumpkin was amazing, I had food envy during our meals and wished I had gotten the Rosti instead. But still pretty happy with my decision. Service was a little mediocre and we waited a long time from when we sat down to when we ate but they were also pretty busy so it's understandable.
Visited here while on holiday in Hobart due to the amazing reviews. The coffee was really lovely and the food seemed good, but not next level outstanding. Between four of us we ordered the smashed avo x2, the fruit bowl and bacon and eggs. Perhaps the simplicity of our order is the reason why. The fruit bowl did look nice, but I expected something special with the avo on toast. As mentioned though, the coffee was lovely and the service decent.
What a lovely surprise to finally visit this delightful indoor/outdoor cafe/restaurant.
We popped in for a quick drink this evening & wish we'd had more time to enjoy some fabulous wood-fired pizza. (Next visit will be a must).
A wonderful ambience awaits you as does a team of attentive, friendly, professional staff.
Highly recommended - do try this lovely establishment. ☺️
I must add, that generous gas heaters are placed for your comfort around the outdoor tables and, the background music permits conversation to flow easily.
Loved this place. A sprawling corner block in a very trendy part of Hobart. Seating for all purposes either outside, covered, inside high or low tables. Very friendly staff for a busy Sunday morning and the Bloody Mary was made to perfection. The eggs for both the rosti and scrambled were great. Highly recommend a stop here when you're next in town!
A charming and cosy spot for a meal regardless of the time of the day. Great coffee and delicious food. The Fried Chilli Omelette and Gado Gado both boast amazing flavours, as did the Scrambled Silken Tofu - a most enjoyable meal. Love the coffee too!
Really nice place for a morning brunch, fantastic atmosphere with a lot of outdoor seating. Their coffee is great and the Chinese fried chilli omelette dish was incredibly flavourful, the potato rosti was nice too but will need to settle with second place. We also grabbed some banana and raisin bread to go and it was a bit too sweet even for my sweet tooth.
Great place for breakfast, brunch….we tried the spicy omelette and the smash avo. My lord, it was sooooo goooooddd 🤤🤤 especially smash avo, the best 👌🏻 that sourdough from the pigeon whole bakers made it even more delicious 😋
We enjoyed our time here, will be back for sure. Tx
Such a beautiful place, any time of day. Lively atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food and coffee! Also, there is room for your pony!

📝: Room for a Pony is cute little cafe in a former petrol station petrol on North Hobart’s busy Elizabeth Street cafe.
❤️: We loved all our dishes. I loved my Gado Gado—though not traditional like the Gado Gados you find in Indonesian restaurants, but it tasted amazing. It was a tasty mixture of pumpkin, greens, kimchi, fried tofu and poached egg, topped with their homemade peanut sauce. Recommend visiting if you’re brunching in Hobart!
