Taste Fresh Dumpling House

Really tasty and good value chinese restaurant in Hurstville near the station. For all the dishes including drinks and dessert it ended up being less than $15pp shared betweeb 6 people. The food is decent quality, the mince beef noodles is worth trying and of course the usual safe choices of dumplings (pan fried or steamed).

Decent food, value, and service. Food is a little different from the usual Chinese cuisine or cuisines in Hurstville (predominantly Cantonese and Hongkongnese and, more recently, Shanghainese). Taste Fresh Chinese Cuisine tends to cook cuisines more resembling Northern Chinese cuisine, so dishes that are Northern Chinese dishes such as the zhajiangmian (炸酱面) smell and taste strange at first. Remarkably, a number of dishes use vinegar and have complex flavours that are unfound in other Chinese regional cuisines. For most, Northern Chinese cuisine is an acquired taste and ability to appreciate. Still, unfortunately, like other regional cuisines, Taste Fresh has a greasy, stodgy taste.

Service is reasonable at Taste Fresh. Although some staff are less competent or less confident in speaking in English or in general, others are available to pick up the slack if required.

All in all, we would recommend trying Taste Fresh for a different take on Chinese cuisine if it is one type of cuisine (which it is not) or for Northern Chinese fare.

I love the dumplings there, especially lamb one. Last time we ordered fry pan dumplings, and it's Yummy! The restaurant mixes Sichuan cuisine with Northern Chinese food, and it is very special.

The dumplings are so delicious. Recommend pork and lamb dumplings.
