Review The Pot - Hyde Park

Hanmo Li
We had the tasting menu with 7 plates over 4 courses and paired wine. Everything was super delicious. Loved the asian influence in many of the dishes. The only thing that would have been nicer was the lamb, which was slightly dry. The chicken was super tasty, and was the highlight of the meal. Great wine and cocktails too!

Awesome food. Service was great. Tried the tasting menu and I highly recommend it. If you appreciate top quality ingredients and clever tasty food you will enjoy yourself. You will need to book. The restaurant probably only holds about 20 people, so rocking up with 10 people without a booking will be difficult.

I booked a table for 2 on a Saturday night and ended dining sitting on a stool at the bar. Not a good start! Anyway it was so busy that it took 30 minutes just to order drinks and even more time for the food although we were sitting right in from of the waitress. Although adequately cooked, the dishes were just average for that price range, nothing outstanding. Overall, it felt like an overpriced, very noisy, restaurant with average food and poor service. Very disappointed especially as there are so many great alternatives in Adelaide in that price range.

Great food, wine and staff. We only had some dumplings there, but if that was any indication of the quality that the kitchen puts out then we are very excited to return. The staff were extremely friendly and approachable. This place is up with my top 10 eateries right now.

Great atmosphere, with a fix of casual and fancy. Could not fault the food, except serving sizes could have been larger - but that may have just been what we ordered. Staff were super friendly and helpful - overall, very happy!

This place serves amazing food! Went here on a Friday night - the atmosphere is great (although a little noisy) and the food is awesome. We chose from the a la carte menu rather than the feed me and we were really happy - portions were great and, with a bottle of wine between 4 plus 1 dessert and coffees, the bill came to less than $60 each. The let down was the service - consistently slow and un-attentive.

I have been coming here for years. There's always a good selection of delicate foods, great wines, and exceptional quality staff. Even after they clean the coffee grinder, and coffee machine, they will make you the best Espresso Martini you have ever had!
Eliza Brabyn
Very disappointing. Used to come here a lot as one of our favourites but we will not return. Food was sub standard and service wasn’t any bettter. Always happy to pay the price for good food however this was not worth the cost. On providing feedback to the manager it wasn’t received well. Will be interested to see how long this restaurant lasts in this competitive market where service and food is what sets you apart from the rest.

Haven't been to the Pot for ages and it's been a pleasant surprise ... Delicious small dishes for sharing between a small group or you could order individually as well. Unfortunately they are going to be revamped again with a brand new Italian look/menu so looking forward to trying their new venture soon

The Pot was once a favourite restaurant of ours. It has been a year or so since our last visit. Our fond memories of rich, flavoursome food had us anticipating a return. Alas, the menu was uninspiring to read and it was equally disappointing to eat. The dishes were generally very small and overpriced with delicate (aka unexciting / bland flavours). If you want to charge a premium for tiny serves, then the flavour had better really blow me away. It didn’t. The Pot appears lost between it’s successful past, and trying to be a fine dining restaurant. Fine dining is dead. Go back to what made you successful.

Don’t do the tasting menu. Not one dish was noteworthy. Yoghurt sorbet with bay leaf oil for dessert. Seriously! Maybe other individual dishes are nice but for a $400 plus dinner for four tonight we expected something decent but it was a flop.

Ambience was great but when it came to the menu nothing was appealing read all the reviews on how great the meals were but i ended up with scallop potatoes (or in layman's terms potato fritters) as entree 3 small chicken pieces with 2 cos leaves as main and choco pudding for dessert and for the cost paid i would have been more happy and satsfied at hungry jacks
Mashedpotato
I really tried to like it, but it fell short for me. The asparagus was served cold, and at $16 for 7 pieces it was disappointing. The cos salad for $12 was half a lettuce with four ingredients sprinkled on top. Grapes, seeds, herbs and dressing. Something you could do at home. The single chicken thigh was $32. Eggplant although Smokey delicious was $25. The whiting was served with a very acidic sauce which overpowered the subtle fish. It was something fermented, which is not written on the menu. The desserts were more reasonably priced. The mint Vienetta has a burnt caramel that overpowered the mint. The strawberries were refreshingly delicious. I love Jaffa, the pickled mandarin and chocolate went very well together, but I would of liked more mandarin. Overall I am glad we tried, but with small serves for price, and no standout dishes we will not be back. Service with Michael was fantastic

Always a good atmosphere and feel. Service was great. Food was good but maybe not as amazing as we thought it might be. We were just on veg and fish dishes only. The Brussel sprouts dish is awesome.

Excellent lunch at The Pot, wait staff were friendly , professional & informative. The food was exceptional, started with Fried Pork Bun, not what I expected but very tasty. Lamb Shoulder for main was tender & combined with grapes & Cayenne sauce an interesting combination with sweetness & bite. Bread & Butter pudding to finish & I was content & full. Highly recommend, I will be back soon.
My partner and I are pursuers of food pleasure. We enjoy travelling the world and trying new restaurants and were introduced to The Pot last night. We simply were in a world of culinary rapture and recommend them highly! Our waiter was great. Praham I think his name is. So helpful with guiding us through the menu - both wine and food. We started with the light Aperol spritz, followed by the Skillogalee Shiraz which were good choices. A complimentary baby turnip with a myriad of different flavours had us hooked at first bite. We knew were in for something special. On to the starters - we shared the pork and cabbage roll and the Port Lincoln sardines. The Chuck Steak burger and the pulled lamb dish with grapes were divine. Crunchy potatoes and a delicious side salad completed our meal. No room left for dessert but we were thrilled by this meal. Taste sensation. Even this morning over breakfast we were still raving on! 5 stars. Welcome to Adelaide!

Never before has a restaurant actually caused me to cry through sheer disgracefulness.

Genuinely one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. Don't get me wrong -- I don't always have the highest standards when I'm starving and at 9:30pm on a Sunday night we ate it regardless (the Foodworks opposite us was closed). But with the $200+ bill considered, we feel robbed. It was a total joke.

Our server seemed flustered and told us she was embarrassed because she couldn't find the bottle of wine we ordered. We ordered another; she couldn't find that either (there were excuses: the list changed last night, the manager isn't in today etc). When we opted to go by the glass, she couldn't tell us anything about the wines on the list. She came by a the end of the night to tell us she'd found the original wine we wanted (it was there all along, she just got the name wrong). Probably didn't need to know that, but nevertheless.

The food is where things get really dire. As a writer, it is rare that I'm lost for words. I'll soldier on regardless. Disconnected flavours, poor cooking techniques (tough meat, split mash potato, soggy thick slabs of sashimi, catfood-like pulled pork buns etc), sub-par produce (the cut of lamb we were served was largely sinew and fat)...it was just absurd. We were unsure of whether to laugh or cry; tried both but neither helped the situation.

The kicker was the steak dish. Nudging towards $40, diners who select this option will be rewarded with two wafers of beef (lucky to weigh in at 100g, even), a fat chunk of brown iceberg lettuce covered in supermarket mayo and a quenelle of mash potato; the fat separated from the starch due to lack of emulsification.

Staff apologised profusely and admitted to the horror. Charged us fully regardless. We leave traumatised and vowing to never eat in another Adelaide restaurant.

Best $65 i spent on a tasting menu....fresh flavours and textures. Good ambience and very attentive wait staff.... oh btw, the chocolate gelato was amazing!!!
The Munchkin
Great dinner place for some asian inspired dishes. Friendly service. Memorable dishes of the night was the goat curry croquette which had one of the best curry i have eaten. Perfect amount of spice and filling. Another dish was the singapore chilli crab papardelle. Handmade pasta which was done well and crispy fried soft shell crab . Definitely one of the better crab pasta dishes and comparable to Press blue swimmer crab papardelle. If you like the press version , you will like this one too. Pork belly was excellent . We ordered 3 out of the 4 desserts and the best is definitely the passionfruits souffle with chantily cream. Could easily eat the cream on its own. The peanut butter parfait was a standout as well.

It’s only on a rare occasion that I’ll get really excited about a menu – you know, when you read a menu and you want to order pretty much everything on it – well it happened again on the weekend – at The Pot, King William Road. The Pot has been around for quite a few years now and it’s always served quality food but I hadn’t been for quite a few years until I went in for dinner about six weeks ago. I had a really good meal and I told everyone I came into contact with afterwards that they must go! My lunch on Sunday cemented, for me, that The Pot is a really good option for a vibrant, relaxing and tasty experience. I’m such a sucker for Asian-inspired food and this is modern food with a pretty strong Asian influence – and it all looks pretty sexy too.

Revisited an old favorite again this weekend. Now known as The Pot by Emma McCaskill. I must say - we were disappointed. Previously, part of the appeal was being able to select a variety of small portions/share plates. This option is now obsolete and replaced by a rather small menu. The food is still of a high quality. I had a lamb main which I quite enjoyed, it just didn't seem as special as our old favourites! My fiancé ordered the wagyu rump, the steak was cooked well but the portion size was tiny! Service seemed to lack a little bit from our last visit (12+ months ago) but overall was still pretty good. If you were a fan of the restaurant previously, it may not quite meet your expectations but it is still worth a visit.

My favourite place to eat in the whole of Adelaide. The absolute best food is served here, and even though it's a little pricey, there is an 100% guarantee that it's worth it. I've been here a ridiculous amount of times and never once has the food been anything less than perfect. There is also an extensive wine list and comfortable seating, allowing you to make the most of your time there. The breakfast menu is also amazing, and definitely a must have on weekends. Some of the best dishes include the wood grilled salmon belly, char grilled Berkshire pork belly, crispy Hanoi duck spring roll, and my personal favourite Sticky beef dumplings. Also for dessert, the Nutella créme bruleé. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and after being there twice for breakfast, server Louis greeted me by name and asked if I wanted the same meal I had eaten the past two times (I did). Absolutely amazing, if I could give The Pot more than 5 star, I definitely would.

Nice little spot, has great potential. Food is well presented and lots of detail but just a touch low of flavour or wow factor. I feel like the tapas offerings are a touch expensive but there's a lot of work in the dishes.... The tasting plate option is probably the better choice and I look forward to returning in the evening. Nice staff although he was a bit rushed, seemed like just one waiter to look after the whole place.
Rachel
Really nice spot with a great selection of tapas style dishes including lots of vegetarian options. Would recommend a bottle of Down the Rabbit Hole Shiraz and the peanut butter parfait for dessert.
Lora McMillan
Had a phenomenal meal here and the small and large options for the menu items provided a great opportunity to try more dishes, which was perfect. The sticky beef dumplings in broth were our favourite, full of shredded beef, little parcels of magic. Strawberry soufflé for dessert was perfect. Epic yums!
Jarrod Harkness
A fantastic, modern tapas restaurant. Perfect place to try a variety of dishes and we were happy with each & every one that we had. The food was top quality. Helpful & friendly staff.
Juno
Bring your own protein!
No vegetarian main courses on offer, just vegetables. There are a myriad of non-animal proteins that could be enjoyed. Come on Adelaide chefs. Is it due to laziness or ignorance that you do not offer your vegetarian customers a balanced meal? The Pot is NOT "Vegetarian Friendly". I left hungry and considerably out of pocket. What I did have, though, was tasty.
Jma
I really enjoyed the food here. The staff were really friendly and service was quick. My favourite dish was the octopus with quinoa and marron sauce. We had the tasting menu for $65 each and were both very full afterwards.

The Pot Food & Wine has become a favourite. We had yet another fabulous dinner last night (photos added). I've had a number of lunches and dinners over the years and can't fault the place.
The ambience has always been fresh and inviting. It's especially nice to sit close to the door on a beautifully warm evening.
The staff have consistently been welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable.
But the most important is the food, and on that front, the Pot has always delivered. I must admit though, I have never really looked at the menu properly as I've always had the tasting menu. The tasting menu normally consists of 9 dishes created daily based on the freshly picked ingredients, and tailored to your liking.
I highly recommend this place and love coming back every time.
Lizzie Newland
A cosy little place that is always busy- must be a good sign. Had the tasting menu at The Pot last night with a friend. Really impressed with the diversity of the dishes after having one too many tasting menus that offers carpaccio after carpaccio, this was a welcome change.

We were advised the menu had just been altered and there was a new wood oven. Very knowledgable staff and beautiful wines.
Entrees:
Slow cooked octopus- beautiful and tender with a sauce hot with chilli and crispy quinoa which was deliciously unexpected.
Croquettes- a stand out from the night. Silky smooth inside and amazingly crispy without being greasy
Sliders- yummy, wood fired pulled lamb. Finger licking good.
The Pot Caesar salad- really nice. Full of gherkin, onion and an anchovy of a wedge of iceberg. Lovely herby dressing
Main:
Beetroot with ginger salad- very heavy on the ginger but tender beetroot with julienned carrot
Pork with seaweed- really unusual. Fish and pork were not flavours I'd been exposed to together but I was delighted with the outcome
Dessert:
Peanut butter semifreddo with chocolate sorbet- to die for. Amazing. Covered in caramel praline this was another stand out from the night.

Smooth service and good timing of dishes. Left feeling happy and perfectly full.

It’s been well over a year since I last ventured to The Pot Food and Wine, luckily enough though, J wanted to cross that off her to eat list so I promptly organised a date and time and dinner was on. Luckily, some of my favourites still remained on the menu and J let me take on the ordering reigns for the most part. 😉

Dinner date with the stranger at The Pot Food & Wine, but cause we’re an indecisive duo, a late booking resulted in a seat by the bar. We started our night off with a glass of red each as recommended by Carlos behind the counter; I also requested for a citrus, light and refreshing cocktail for myself and the dude behind the counter whipped this beauty up:

For me The Pot defines the phrase - ‘romance of a restaurant’, and I’m not talking about sitting there with your loved one, staring into each others eyes

The Pot Food and Wine was an awesome venue for a family special occasion. Just out of the city on trendy Rundle St Hyde Park this is a skilful and wonderfully ambient restaurant that pleases at every level. We flew here from Melbourne to join our Adelaide family members to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary. So it had to be somewhere special – these things don’t happen everyday. (Image credit above: Pot Facebook). The food here is top notch with tapas dishes to be shared. There wasn’t a weak link among the fine fare. Each dish was sensational. Just to sit back and enjoy the ambience of this restaurant on a warmish Adelaide night was sublime. A modern fit out and long table for our large group to relax and imbibe. The Pot in Hyde Park Here is some of our selection… Burgers The Pot Buns are more like burgers to me… Delicate but with substance. Choose from a great selection of Prawn and Kimchi, then Pork, watercress and kewpie or indeed the Duck, cucumber, spring onion and hoi sin (my favourite), or finally Mushrooms, truffle and watercress. The buns themselves are delicious, and I suspect soft brioche. Succulent Lamb Slow roasted Hay Valley Lamb with macaroni and cheese is superb. The slow roasted lamb is cooked to perfection and the dude food heaven is complete with the macaroni and cheese.

Disappointing. Went to The Pot for lunch, ordered the anchovy and ice berg lettuce salad, which was quite nice, however there was an odd taste to the mayonnaise and we did feel a little queasy afterwards. Also had the grilled lamb rack (?) which came with nothing but lamb; now this might be a carnivores dream, but it was too much meat. 6 pieces of lamb, lots of fat, no veg or any side, left the restaurant feeling sick and disgusting. Chimmi churri on the lamb was nice, could do with a little more sauce. Needed to order a fizzy drink to get rid of the greasy feeling of the lamb fat. Very disappointed.

Pot of chocolate gold coins. This is really a nice place. Whilst small the layout fits many without that feeling of being crowded. The atmosphere and view put the front is really beautiful. The waiting staff were quite nice and maybe I am a little biased because a cute one asked me out but they did really seem to be on top of their stuff and friendly. Added bonus they're pretty attractive in general :) the food itself was nice, not amazing and the servings were small but they were enjoyable. It's unfortunate how expensive the place is for how un-filling the food is. Next time I would have dinner beforehand and go there for a small after dinner snack. In general it's a place I would love to revisit if someone else is paying otherwise I just don't have that kind of budget.

The Pot Food and Wine went from reasonable to bad quite rapidly. Seeking a new brunch experience, the ambience and menu got us in pretty quick. Service was also quite friendly. Less than half of the establishment was filled, yet it took over half an hour for two simple breakfasts. A fancy toasty and blue swimmer crab scrambled eggs. Maybe they were out catching the crab? Who knows? But the three kitchen staff definitely didn't look run off their feet nor did the front of house. I definitely won't be back.

Cool venue with quality food and great service! Rate this place

Mouthwatering. It's been a while since we actually went here unfortunately didn't think to review it at the time. BUT I only have fond memories and a desperate need to return . 3 of us went and we shared a pile of different dishes and every one of them was so mouth-wateringly yummy.
Can't wait to get back there!!

Yum! everytime amazing.. Love this place. Pork belly, Mac n cheeese, slow roasted lamb all so delicious. Cosy, warm and ambient. Will be back!

This is by far the best restaurant in adelaide! If you have any kind of pallet you will agree..
The Drinks Master
Great burger!. After our third failed attempt to get a burger from Burger Republic down the road, we walked up to Pot on a Friday night and got straight in. Fantastic food, drinks and an outstanding burger. I liked the music, which was really different - a mishmash of 90s rock and other songs you just wouldn't ordinarily hear at a place like this.
Tough Fork Talk
We're able to book a table last minute on a Saturday evening, after a last minute cancellation. The table we were first seated as was side by side seating and very cramped. After a quick conversation with there delightful staff a more suitable table opened up and we were moved to a more suitable arrangement. The food and wine were delicious! Would strongly recommend this place for a special occasion or just a nice romantic night out with your significant other. Great experience
Sara
Amazing food and a great experience. We didn't have a reservation but showed up at 6.30 on a busy Saturday and were very well looked after by the staff, especially Jane (? Sorry I am not good with names) who was our waitress for the night. We took the option of sitting at the 'kitchen bar' where we could observe the kitchen staff do their thing while we ate. This spot also have us the advantage of being able to take our time and order as we went, based on things we saw coming out of the kitchen that looked good to us. We had a lovely unhurried graze on several dishes, all were worthy of note, especially the soft shell crab pot bun (mini hamburger slider) and the beautiful caramel pork belly special. I am not a fan of pork in general but shared this with hubby and it was awesome !!! Had to pass on sweets because a but allergy restricted our options but in all other respects, a beautiful meal. We will be back as there were a couple of items we were too full to try this time (namely the blue swimmer crab parpadelle)!
World In A Bite
Food was salty and overpriced ..

Like the casual sometimes rather loud atmosphere....food is pretty good too...although a tapas, would highly recommend either to increase the quantity a little bit or bring the prices down a bit...just too hard on the pocket and I want to come here often!!!

My dear fellow readers, I.... My dear fellow readers,

I would like to express my feelings and thoughts of the experience that I wish I never had. Let me start off by saying the food was atrocious, and to an extent, made me nauseous. The chicken salad that I particularly ordered had an exception of chicken, which I found rather confusing. After asking the waitress several times where the chicken was... She surely replied with "the chicken is shredded quite finely, underneath the greens. After days on end trying to find the missing ingredient, we were still unable to locate where the chicken might have run away to. Nevertheless I pushed the salad to the side and moved to the slow cooked lamb with Mac and cheese. After one fork load of the slow roasted premium lamb entered my mouth, I was confused to whether the lamb had been off for weeks, or whether it was completely over cooked to state of tasting like burnt onion. This dish was no longer pursued, pushing this to the side also. We moved to a meal that we could have purchased from any fast food outlet being the fries and mayo, surely this couldn't go wrong! Which it didn't.. The burger was okay, too small for the price.

In conclusion I deeply regret my experience, and just wished to share this hoping people don't have the same outcome.
Clover
Loved the food but not the condescending waiter. I think he was the host? After perusing the super expensive wine list, we ordered one of the cheaper bottles which they were out of. He came back, not very apologetic, suggesting a different variety in the same price range and then asked if we wanted straws to drink it with?! Maybe he was trying to be funny but I just thought he was rude. The girls who brought most of our food out we're lovely and the tasting menu was amazing. Then the host brought out our dessert with no cutlery. Disappointing end to the meal.
Weina Hsieh Tan
Best burger and onion rings!. Nobody does the humble burger and onion rings quite like they do. The bun is soft and delicious, and the meat is charred just right, and still juicy in the middle. The onion rings are crispy and light, not oily or soggy at all. Beautiful.
Josh Quilty
Relaxed and casual. Food was awesome, wine was good. not many to choose from by glass but well structured and balanced list. Tassie chardonnay was exactly what I wanted but probably shouldve had the soave with the oysters and the chardy with the kingfish sashimi (my bad there). Service was prompt and friendly, only one on the floor and was pretty busy by my 3rd course. Great little spot definitely recommend and will visit again when in Adelaide.
Simon Zhou-Lund
Not a cheap restaurant, due to small servings but you pay for good quality. I would recommend two mains per person but the food was exquisite. Most interesting and delicious flavours. Despite other reviews I found the service extremely friendly and not pushy at all. Overall very impressed
Mai
Nice food and service, cozy seats. Love it!
Antony Eagle
Great food. Food was really great: the Pot buns are amazing (the pork bun in my view bests the famed Golden Fields lobster roll), and the rest of the food we had was great. Service, while super friendly, was, on the busy Friday we were there, a bit sketchy at times, they seemed to have only two waitstaff for a full restaurant, so we had one of our dishes lost somewhere between order and table – but the lovely server comped the dish in the end so we were happy. Will definitely return.
Trina Pailthorpe
Without Carlos running the show, this place has fallen apart. The food has slipped and the service even more so. I would go to press now as a preferred dining option.
Jenfox
Amazing flavours but Very small servings for the price. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a hearty meal
Eating In Adelaide
Good food but overpriced and snobby atsmophere. After having a look at the menu at the Pot we asked the waitress how many dishes she would recommend for 2 people planning to share. She recommended 3 mains, 2 starters and 2 entres which would have added up to $100-$200- and this was for lunch! We ended up ordering a few mains and a few entres. The food took around a long time to come out (45 minutes) and in this time a table of people were seated next to us, ordered and had their food come out. We were also continuously invited to look at the wine menu when we had already specified we wouldn't be drinking which seemed quite pushy- particulary for a lunch! When the food finally did come out it was excellent but for the price ($70 for two people without drinks) and the size of the dishes I wouldn't recommend it. We left still hungry and feeling uncomfortable- overall not a great experience!
Foodloveradelaide
My 2 cents. Lucky the food was good coz the service was SHOCKING!!!!

had the pork special. it was to DIE FOR.

lucky it compensated for the shocking service ... still contemplating if we will be back.
Skujam
Absolutely outstanding, seriously good. Well executed and well conceived dishes, without a doubt the best burger I have ever had in Adelaide - brilliant.
BTW, the green beans with anchovies and radish was generous, fresh, crisp, exceedingly savory and eminently memorable, if a restaurant can deliver memorable dished then it is definitely worth going back - I'll be back for sure.
Adrian
Ups and Downs. I am a regular lunch diner at The Pot.

I return there because they produce some really stunning and interesting food, the tapas style of dining enables me to have a number of taste sensations in a single dining experience.

After all that's the main reason I will dine out, otherwise as a competent cook myself I can produce most regular dishes at home.

With the exception of a dish of almost- raw chicken livers I got one day, it has all been well above-average and at times totally sensational food.

The small space can be daunting and feel crammed at times especially when the restaurant is busy, which it often is. Service too can at times be hit and miss.

The wine selection is consistently changing and contains many quality wines you don't see elsewhere. Wine prices though are very steep, which is my only real issue with this restaurant.
Kirsten
How disappointing!. Previous visits to The Pot have been a great experience but last night was the last time we will be a patron.
As usual the food was great but unfortunately the service fell short of the mark.
First insult was, when ordering the tasting menu, being told "its $65 a head" and the tone was not one of ensuring we were aware of the price but rather a statement as if to imply they were checking we could afford it.
Putting that to one side we ignored the remark and focused on enjoying our meal that was to come. I was asked of any dietry requirements to which i replied "gluten intolerant" and yet there was no further acknowledgement of this request nor advice when the food was being brought out.
Not once did the waitress use the words "excuse me" when reaching across the table and then I saw a practice that, in my years of working in the hospitality industry I have never seen - emptying the contents of one bottle of wine into another in full view of all the patrons in the restaurant.
The music was so loud you couldnt hear yourself think and having a conversation was a challenge.
What should have been a pleasant night out was not and all I can say is bring back Carlos!!!!
HungryInLeederville
Nice Tapas. Visited here with two friends for a casual Saturday lunch - place was absolutely packed - and I can see why! It's not cheap and I was surprised at how many people were there with young families (I never got to eat THAT fancy as a child!) but the place appears to be child-friendly.
Standout orders were the croquettes (corn and chilli jam - yum), the pappardelle (lovely al dente hand-made pasta) and the pot burger (gorgonzola sauce and thin onion rings - can't go wrong!).
The LaFeattes
What a dissapointment. Went for dinner 2 weeks ago, her and I, and after a $170 bill, went through Hindley Street Maccas to top up. Great Staff, Great Atmosphere, Shocking Food , Poached chicken was more like a Vietnamese vinegar salad, and they forgot the chicken, BBQ Occy so hot with chilly it blistered my lips.First time in 50 years anywhere in the world where a steak tartare is cooked mince beef. Slow cooked lamb approx 1/2 cup full( 100 grams) in a little copper pot, with baked cheese macaroni,( I suspect it was KRAFT instant cheese and macaroni.) eatable but smaller than a normal entree size.
The green salad with cheese was drowned in olive oil.
The wine which is 13.00 a bottle at Dan Murphy was 12.00 per glass/ NOW COP THIS House filled bottle of water $ 6.00 that's right 6 bucks.
I note a good few diner refer to it being a hit and miss restaurant, so obviously we copped a miss night , which is really sad, for such a cute place.
But the toilets were spotlessly clean. So they do, do something right.

Top venue. MId Sunday morning breakfast.......random selection from interstate travellers. WHAT A FIND!
Simple food in the hands of imaginative young talent in the kitchen transformed to brilliant creations.
Not short on portion size and not arty farty.
Sensational wine list. (Had to have a peek). Lovely staff.

Favourite local spot. The pot never fails to impress. With great lively vibe, knowledgeable friendly staff and exciting menu filled with great fresh flavours.. pretty good cocktails too!
Aunty Ol
Hmm. Lovely food but way over priced for what they put in front of you.

Hit and Miss.. I've eaten here a few times for dinner and once for breakfast.
The dinner experience has been varied depending on the staff. Breakfast was ok in terms of service. Because it is a small restaurant I don't recommend a stroller of any sort if you have a baby unless it's to eat outside (can't remember if they have outdoor seating). We brought our baby in her car capsule and managed ok.
The pot burgers are fantastic. I highly recommend the duck omelette for breakfast. The food itself is delicious but on the pricier side so this is a place we go to treat ourselves.
Carbonblack7
Bad breakfast. Visited today for breakfast at the suggestion of a friend who said that it was pretty decent for food, boy was I very disappointed. As I have dietary restrictions, it was very difficult for me to order anything from the menu unless it could be varied. To their credit, they did that even though they said no variations on the menu.

Ordered a Pot breakfast burger, as I could not eat pork or shellfish, I advised them of my requirements, to which they said no problems, what they served out, was a plain mini burger bun with a fried egg with manchango cheese and some chilli relish on a wooden cutting board, the relish was nice enough, but that burger for $15 was a total rip off, it was very sad. The service was not that great either. Also ordered the salt banana caramel shake, what came was flavoured milk with a hint of banana.

For the chef to serve up that sad dish, he must not have pride in his work.
Adlmike040
The best flavors. Went there for the first time last week and cant wait to go there again this week. The flavors actually made my day the other day... Friendly staffs, greatest food ever and good ambiance.. would go there again and again... i recommend this place..

We'd been wanting to go here for ages and we weren't disappointed! Everything we ate was delicious and the service was terrific! I can't wait to go back and try breakfast.

Delicious. Had the slow cooked lamb with Mac and cheese... Yum. Good service, good vibe, good wine and good food... What more do you want?

-----28 Oct, 2012-----

Yummy Breakfast. All good here... Food + service... Can't complain

I came here for my birthday dinner last night and the food was fantastic!! Very happy and we were really surprised by the bill- not nearly as expensive as we had anticipated! The beef cheeks, lamb with mac n cheese, grain salad with labne, soufflé and peanut butter parfait were standouts- so yummy!! Will DEFINITELY be coming here again! 10/10

Excellent customer service; even though it was extremely busy we were still paid plenty of attention by the relaxed and knowledgable staff. Great cozy interior. The food was delicious and the small tapas style serves were plenty for us. Recommend the salted caramel pork and the "golden egg" - both interesting and unusual flavours that really work. A little pricey but definitely worth it.

Awesome ambience, interior and food is great. The pot buns are delicious. Food is quite pricy and small serves however which is typical of French food.

The pot is just awesome. The food is unique and always changing, service is impeccable with Carlos running the show. If you are in Adelaide and need a guaranteed good meal, this is your go to spot!
Midnight Snack
Dined here about a month ago & popped in last night for a post dinner drink. The food is divine, delicious flavours & great for sharing. Loved the pot buns & an amazing dessert with chocolate icecream, peanut butter & brittle. Staff are very friendly, welcoming & attentive. One of my current favourites!
What I Eat
Spring Rolls to DIE for!!!!!. Great little tapas restaurant and a lively atmosphere!! There are two sittings, one at 6.30 and the other at 7.30. Staff were friendly and didn't mind that we wanted to come in at around 7.45 instead of waiting around at the boutiques nearby. The service of the staff were average but I think it was the owner who was very nice and was going around to each table making sure everything was okay.

Definitely pricier than other tapas restaurants but worth the money as long as you select the right items. My friend and I ordered a range of dishes but wasn't impressed with them all. The salmon tartare, tempura prawn and the 'nose to tail crumbed pork' were not the best choice. The salmon tartare was just cubed bits of salmon thrown on a plate with some goats cheese over it which was very appealing or tasted that great. I wasn't a fan of the tempura prawn as there was a funny taste to it but I think that's just be being fussy and the crumbed pork was very dry however the 'apple, fennel & celeriac remoulade' was DELICIOUS!!! I could definitely just eat a plate of that! Besides that we also got the Char grilled hanger steak the duck bun which were nice but not necessarily something you would crave and want to come back for. On the other hand, the Prawn and Pork Spring rolls were to DIE for!!!! They were served in a lettuce wrap with nuoc cham which is a Vietnamese fish sauce. These were definitely the highlight of the night and makes me want to go back there and just grab a few spring rolls for dinner!

Disappointing. With the large array of tapas on offer we decided to go with the Tasting Menu, a chef's selection of tapas for the challenging price of $65 a head. First was salmon sashima, in a mediterranean style. It was so over-salted that it literally crunched in the mouth. Second came some deep-fried chilli chicken pieces. Tasty, but again, so salty that your lips start to ache. Third was a plate of octopus pieces. Very tender and nicely cooked, but again, so heavily salted it was a crime. This was followed by some barramundi wings (again, too salty, and served in a black salty sauce just in case you needed more), a lentil salad (strange, bland, and containing crunchy pieces of soil that might break your fillings), some slow-cooked lamb, and a warm brussels sprout salad. The last couple of dishes were an improvement but unfortunately, by that time, we could feel our arteries beginning to harden and we'd lost our appetites somewhat.
It's a nice little place to eat, and the service was good, but there's clearly not enough tasting going on in the kitchen. It was a shame to see such good ingredients, well cooked, but spoiled by heavy-handed seasoning. And at the price, it's inexcusable.

Little Gem. We spotted this restaurant just by chance and it turned out to be a delicious surprise that we will definitely come back to. Beautiful beautiful flavours, so cleverly put together. The passionfruit souffle was to die for, absolutely amazing!
Service was a little disappointing. The place was not full yet our waitress forgot to bring our wine and 2 courses in we had to remind her. They also forgot to serve one of our dishes and we had to remind them not to charge for it on our bill, what a shame I was quite looking forward to those scallops.

Awesome experience at pot food & wine. Great staff and service. The pepper crusted barramundi wings were amazing. Such a different dish and well worth the effort.

Another wonderful dinner at The Pot. If you don't expect a traditional 3 course, and are happy to spread your meal over an hour or 2 then come in - don't expect to be rushed out the door. Beautifully cooked buns were a new, delicious addition to the menu - crab and morcila on brioche is my new favourite. Give dessert a miss, pick an extra savoury course and you will never be disappointed.

Excellent!. After ordering a few small dishes to start we ended up gorging our way through most of the menu. The "small" menu items were the perfect size - large enough so that you got enough mouthfuls to taste the food but small enough that you could try many different items without getting too full! The mushroom and truffle croquette was excellent, as was the kingfish, tuna and beef tartare. The duck crepe was something different (but good). The "small" menu was nothing on the "a bit bigger" menu though. The lamb and macaroni cheese was the highlight - the lamb melted in your mouth and the macaroni cheese was comfort food at its best. The hanger steak was also a standout as was the pork belly (although the only thing missing was the sripy skin). The only criticism I could make it that some of the dishes were on the salty side - we are most definitely not salt-phobes - but some of them seemed a bit heavy handed.

The dishes were well timed. We weren't in a rush and thought we were going to be finished too quickly at the rate the food was coming out however, it stretched out into a nice evening. The service was excellent all night and we enjoyed some nice wines.

Fantastic place. This place is fantastic, what are the other reviewers talking about?
Carlos is great, nice, friendly, polite, careful. I went there at least 5 times and every time is a great experience. I always follow Carlos suggestions for the wine and I never got wrong!
I tried almost everything in teh menu' and it is all amazingly tasty. even teh macaroni cheese are superb!!
These guys are doing a great job and I think Adelaide really needs more places like this!

Great as always. Dines last week with two girlfriends. New menu so some of the old favourites are missing (lamb and macharoni, truffle croquettes, eton mess) but we moved on and tried some new dishes.
The duck crepes are amazing, so tasty I could have eaten the whole dish myself. Prawn and morcilla was good and the new croquettes ( i forget the filling) were nice. Beef ribs were pull apart tender and delicious sauce. Pork belly was yummy but not quite enough on the dish. Barramundi special was great as was the freekah salad which I love.
We had way too much wine. Would probably like to see a another couple of different bottles of sparkling available ., They used to cary the Louis Buillot which was great. White and reds were suggested for us and we really enjoyed them. Service excellent from all staff. This is one of my favourite places to dine and consistently delivers with a great atmosphere, wonderful food and friendly service.

One of adelaides finest. This place is good... Real good! Perfectly times tapas, exciting wine list and nice space! If you understand how to eat then you can not dislike this place!!!!

Excellent food, terrible customer relations. I absolutely adore the food here, however the customer relations leaves a lot to be desired. I've eaten at the Pot four or five times in the last 18 months, and have recommended it to many of my friends and colleagues. I love it so much so, I got my mum a $100 voucher last Christmas so that she can try it too. What has left a very bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended) was the fact that Carlos refused to honour the voucher, which had expired less than two months ago. Mum hasn't been able to get to the restaurant for whatever reason, I had assumed that she had a year to use it. And, so she went to book a table for five of us today (Thursday) for this Saturday, she's told we can come in for either the early or late session - no worries. Then, she proceeds to open the envelope and realises the voucher expired in May. She called back right away, and was fed some excuse about the restaurant being extremely busy on Fridays and Saturdays (I have no idea what that has to do with not being able to honour the voucher, and considering how easily a table of FIVE was able to be accommodated at such short notice, in winter, mind). Obviously we would have spent above and beyond the $100 voucher - that wouldn't even be enough for my partner and I ordinarily. So I am mightily disappointed at this incident, and I will not be returning.

Wow! The Pot has very unique and interesting food. Sometimes degustation dining can be a horrible experience, because you spend so long waiting for a tiny morsel, only to gobble it up in desperation when it arrives, fail to 'taste' anything, and then begin the agonizing wait for the next sliver of food. The Pot avoids this sequence of events by virtue of its impeccable service. Each little plate was brought out within 5-10 mins of ordering it, and then rapidly (but in a staggered fashion) more and more of our small meals were brought out. We were constantly grazing, which meant there was never a dull moment! So the service is great - Carlos is amusing and friendly, without being too intrusive. We chose against having the set 'tasting menu' (even though this was recommended to us) and instead chose to select our own miniature dishes from the normal menu to share. The ambiance is nice - woody, dark, with brown paper tablecloths, cushions and a wall covered in a densely stocked wine rack. For the 'smaller' meals, the best was the mushroom/truffle/raclette croquette - deliciously creamy and crisp. The 'golden egg' was interesting and tasty, but a little sickly sweet. As for the 'bigger' meals, the stand-out was the truffle taglietelle - peppery, topped with asparagus and peas, with delicate tartufo flavours and a hearty creamy sauce. The beetroot/orange/radish salad with a buttermilk sauce was tasty and very pretty, but not spectacular. The leek/goat's cheese omelette was absolutely fantastic. The aioli that came with our side of shoestring fries was to die for - it was tart, potent and the fresh. For dessert, the Eton mess was tasty but relatively homely (compared to all the other weird and wonderful dishes.) The lime/coconut/black sesame sago and ice-cream was liked by my family, but I found it tasted a little too sweet and the flavour was more of an artificial coconut essence than of real coconut. The citrus crema catalena with spiced praline was an interesting gustatory experience - at times reminiscent of savoury Indian cooking (with anise and cardamom very prominent), while also regular (albeit perhaps slightly artificial-tasting) citrus pannacotta. Overall, the night was interesting, exciting and fun. The food's presentation was attractive and unusual, as were the actual ingredient combinations. I wouldn't go here every week - as it was an almost exhausting (but brilliant) adventure - but I'll certainly be back. A great experience!

Ou etait le sourire. Dropped in here for a late lunch last week, had heard great things. Our attendant - Carlo was less than friendly. I felt as if we were an inconvenience to him.
The food was lovely - mushroom raclette, omelette, beetroot salad, golden egg. Dessert of lemon catalina with praline wonderful. I was very very disappointed by this man's sour nature. The young blonde male attendant who settled our account was all smiles and pleasant and even walked to the door thanking us. It was a shame Carlo wasn't as polite.

Fun. I live between Brisbane and Adelaide. When I want to relax and enjoy a fun night out or a relaxed Sunday lunch then this is where we go. Good food, good service and just simply a fun place to be whether with your partner for something quiet or a Sunday lunch with a group of friends

It was OK but rather dark inside. Well, nothing really fantastic , in fact we came out wondering what was all the fuss about. never been to the previous original melting pot.

Promised so much yet failed to nail it. Dined at the Pot for their 'Bastille Day Celebrations'. Unfortunately they didnt seem to be celebrating at all - in fact no music could even be heard amongst the banter of customers.

The ambience and feel of the place was good. NIce and cosy and I didnt even care that I had to perch on a bar stool in the beginning. The Pot serves small serves designed to be bought in ample supply for sharing amongst the table. We started with a terrine, tempura prawn and some spanish ham. Serving ham on a plate with a few token cherry tomatoes seemed slightly amateurish, but the ham was lovely and thin, yet full of flavour. The poor presentation of the ham dish was counter-balanced by the beautiful presentation of tempura prawns with a thin slice of black pudding/boudin along with pea puree. This was the best dish of the night. The terrine unfortunately was quite dry and crumbly, making it difficult to eat spead onto the bread provided.

The 'mains' were nice, well presented and tasty. But, nothing really blew us away. The wine was pricey and average, the pork belly was well cooked but we have had better. The cheese selection was good and the choices we made were tasty and went well with the fig bread accompaniment.

So, so far, nothing to really rave about but there was still dessert....well so we hoped! We waited over half an hour for a waiter to grace us with their presence and see if we wanted anything else (coffee perhaps?). At which point we finally placed our order for a passionfruit souffle and eton mess. Half an hour later and our dessert finally arrived. I waited with baited breath as my friends dug in. The verdict? Eggy and raw souffle at the bottom, very burnt praline in the eton mess (obviously taken too far in the pan).

The wait for dessert and the poor performance for this course really brought the 'rating' down. I'd try it again, perhaps on a night when they arent as busy, but probably not for a while - other venues beckon!

Great Basque lunch today..... Thanks Marcos for fitting us in

Great!. It is one of the few places in Adelaide with any heart & soul. Great wine, Great food and Great atmosphere. With so many restaurants churning out the same old stuff its refreshing to see a place bringing food and wine to Adelaide that you usually only see interstate or overseas.

The Pot is 'Simmering' Rather Than 'Sizzling'!. The Pot sits pretty amid designer boutiques, cute little coffee shops in Hyde Park - a tiled causeway looking lane that extends from King William Road. In fact it makes for such a rickety ride, you feel like the car is about to fall apart as you drive over the series of grooves. Adjacent to the Pot is Melt, a delightful pizzeria that sounds and looks fabulous. Can't wait to try that place! I feel a bit foolish - in my one and a half years of living in little, ole Adelaide I had never been to Hyde Park before! An interesting cheese and wine providore just a few doors away confirms that a trip up to the top of King William Road is a must.

The atmosphere is intimate, cosy and sophisticated all at once. The place could possibly seat 40 - and that would be a stretch I imagine. Literally as you enter the room it envelopes you in a warm embrace. Soft, yellow lighting, warmth of the heating and quaint French bistro ambience oozes - brown paper specials scrawled haphazardly, (so much so we couldn't make them out and missed the crumbed sweetbreads!) overhead a glass kitchen. This allows a sneak peek at the chefs in their impressive starched whites and chequered hats.
Immediately impressed by the vibe I got as I walked in the door and further elevated by excitement over the elegant menu options, my mind whirled at the journey several tasting platters would afford us that night. The Pot has long been an Adelaidian institution until recently when the owner decided to re-vamp the place by doing a French tapas inspired menu that features plates designed to share with the exception of the appetisers that the waitress warned were individual portions (fair warning). An immediate drawback was the seating.

Adjusting myself in the tiny little varnished wooden tables and chairs it seems our group of four, petite to moderately sized women, were feeling a bit like Suddenly Susan - too large and awkward to fit into the space allocated to our table and chairs without leaning a little over the customers on tables on either side, or rocking the table unceremoniously every time someone needed to reach for the bread or the water. And so, the expected happened halfway through service, the water rocked our table sending water all over my friend's bag and lap - all he did was offer her a serviette and rush off!
The tasting menu of Chef's selection of appetiser, charcuterie, salads, seafood, meats and dessert at $48 sounded like the way to go. But the birthday girl's friends had said they hadn't enjoyed the chef's selection very much on their visit.

We ordered a bunch of things to taste and share instead. All of us being gastronomy students the experience of flavours, taste and texture as opposed to food as fuel highlights any meal we sit down to. Our waitress was awfully eager to push the shoestring fries, "I'm just going to add one - you're going to need it." While all of us looked horrified, nodding our heads in opposition." One word - pushy! And for what the fries - so not worth it, some wait staff need a lesson in sussing out their customers! The gastro-gals are anything but a bunch of grease, shoving fried potato crazed women!

We started our meal with much promise. The Mushroom, Truffle and Raclette Croquettes were divine. Breaded evenly and golden to a crisp, one bite yielded a delicate, smooth interior of potato pureé laced with truffle. The birthday girl keen to try oysters had ordered the Pristine Pacific Oysters from Coffin Bay, which my companions enjoyed natural, I tried it with the Wasbi Flying Fish Roe that was simply delightful, an airy puff of zing, the burst of popping roe in the mouth and then the creamy, plump oyster to chase it. Satisfied we sipped on red from McLaren Vale (can't remember the exact winery) waiting for the rest of our meal.

Read the rest of the review and view pictures of my meal at: http://meagan-megalomaniac.blogspot.com/2009/06/pot.html

The Pot is always a fantastic experience. Good service without being too intrusive, a great wine list and some of the best priced, good quality, enjoyable food in Adelaide. This is not a place to order a steak and chips for one, you need to come in, pick a range of dishes and enjoy all of the flavours on offer. I've been several times this year and it's always been memorable for all of the right reasons.

The Pot. This is the restaurant that Adelaide needed! The food is fabulous. It's nice to see someone serving real, classic foods. The 6 hour braised sticky lamb is to die for. Service is professional and friendly, the fit out classy, funky - and a just little bit rustic. Easily the best new restaurant in town.

The Pot is my favourite Adelaide restaurant. The food is amazing and the wine selection - special. The waitstaff are friendly yet professional. Management keep things ticking over with no apparent fuss and the chefs are really well behaved. (Hospo has enough Gordon Ramseys.) Love it!

This place is always full. It's one of the few places I'd recommend booking.

I find myself sitting at the bar once again.

Thirty seconds later, and I've been promoted to a table. :)

Slightly loud, but I’m out late for dinner. Have traded quiet for comfy chair.

The shredded lamb is slightly chewy, but with a bit of salt, has a small degree of that nice “meat plus salt” flavour. The sauce in the bottom of the pan has been reduced a long way, and is very concentrated. Not inedibly so, but it is strong.

Of the reviews that I have read, I was of the impression that this place served French and modern Australian food, however, last night’s menu had offerings that were of a strong Asian influence. The menu was straight forward with a small selection of tapas items, large plates (mains), larger plates (for 2 or more) and Pot Buns (their version of sliders).

A very early surprise birthday dinner was held for me at The Pot Food and Wine on King William road two weeks a go (someone's a little spoilt!). I have been wanting to check this place out for a while so was super excited. When we got there it wasn't too busy, the atmosphere was great, upmarket casual is how I would describe it. We were seated on a high table with bar stools near the door and given menus and offered water, the waitress was really attentive and friendly. After pursuing the menu and not being 100% sure what we wanted we enquired as to how the tasting menu worked and were informed that it was 5 to 6 courses of the chef's choosing. Given there was nothing on the menu we *didn't* want to eat we decided to give it a go! We ordered some sparkling, ( 42 Degrees South Chardonnay Pinot Noir) which was lovely. I've had this at Melt previously and it's a refreshing, light wine with enough robustness to pair with most food. (No surprise that the drinks options are the same given t

I made a booking using dimmi, and online reservation which was available on their website. However, when I arrived there was a full house of people. Even though I had a confirmation email sent to me, there was no record of my booking on the system.
Permanently Out To Lunch
The next stop was the wonderful food and wine at The Pot. We began with the Pot Beef tartare and then tried almost everything else. At $65 for the tasting menu, it is a bargain and the passion that emanates from the owner is infectious as he goes from table to table serving wine and mingling. Small but convivial - it’s a cracking little restaurant.
