Hi , I’ve been going to Governor’s Gourmet for sometime now. I had tried many of the dishes on the menu , all the fish , curry’s and steak. A favourite of mine is garlic and lemon grilled fish with beautiful freshly made Greek salad . Can’t say I’ve ever let feeling hungry lol . Always comes with a friendly smile , nice easy going relaxing atmosphere . I love this place , it’s a must visit . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Oooh and sitting outside in the afternoon Cappuccino and cake 👍👍 perfect.

we have been regulars at govenders for the better part of a decade, they have always been consistent with food taste and quality, although now managed by new owners the food is still exactly as we remember it, the staff have managed to perfect the curry recipes we known and love, great job!

Fantastic service and food, all the fish is grilled which is a lighter healthier option that I really appreciate. Skilled barristas that brew an excellent coffee, which if you match with one of their home made cakes is absolutely awesome. I can highly recommend the home made Apple crumble, as pictured : ) If you haven't been here before, or it's been a while since you were last here, do you yourself a favour and pay them a visit soon , I can highly recommend the the entire menu.

Nice food and reasonable price

My wife and I shared the grilled masala fish and the grilled tandoori fish last night and the flavours were nothing short of phenomenal. The portion size was generous too as you get two fillets with each serving. Service was friendly and welcoming so based on our experience I would highly recommend this place.

Love the chicken curry combo. Outstanding cooking method without oil. Worth heaps with the pricing too.

Another of Joondalup's hidden gems. Although the menu is limited the food here is excellent. We love it for a get together with family. I enjoy almost all of the flavours. The curries are "colonial based" Madras style and are delicious. The goulash is also delicious the meats are always tender. The fish dishes are also great, although I usually go with the curries. Staff are very friendly and are like family in that it has become a popular spot for us. I can certainly recommend Govenders for a cheap night out with delicious food. It's also great for a carry out and I have at times taken home a frozen curry and goulash.

A family business that delivers high quality food at very reasonable prices. The curries are very tasty and the breakfast is also worth trying. You won’t find better value in Joondalup. Support local family business.

Lovely family run cafe/restaurant. Better value than the cafes in the area and the food just tastes fresher. My favourite is the quality home style curries, fish and chips, chicken pasta, big breakfast and coffee. Always great sociable service.

Breakfast here is the best in joondalup. Generous serves and fair price. The coffee is good to. I always come here for dinner but now its my brekky spot.

I am still confused what this place actually is, since it does curry, grilled fish and chips. Im not a big fan, but I seem to be in the minority as the locals love it. Try for yourself and you'll either be bored to tears like me, or love it like the rest.

It is great, to enjoy a yummy Austrian Gulasch with Spätzle downunder!!! The Styrian masterchef Joachim and his lovely wife Laetitia from Tahiti - what a friendly couple! It was great to sit outside and to enjoy homemade Apple Crumble and a quality cup of Cappuccino. The Swiss Bircher Muesli and Poached Eggs with Avocado for Breakfast is one of my favourites. The menu offers a huge variety of low fat and gluten free Curries, healthy Salads and grilled Fish. There are always lunch specials on offer under 10 Dollars. I loved the junky Pumpkin Soup with the home baked onion bread. I`ll be back soon!!

We recently celebrated my husband's birthday here with 25 people. Everyone was amazed by the quality of the food, the beautiful flavours and the personal ambiance of the place. We had selected a variety of dishes from the menu, including samosas, beef goulash, pumpkin curry, bread varieties and vegetarian dishes. We finished the feast with home made apple crumble served with ice cream and cream. The value for money and the personal service leading up to the event were exemplary and although we knew the standard of the food, as we visit the restaurant regularly, we were blown away (and so were our guests) by the attention to detail on the night of the event. We highly recommend this restaurant and, having 5 star hospitality experience ourselves wish we could give it a 6 star plus rating. We will definitely come back again and again to this hidden gem in Joondalup.

We have been going to Govender's for over 4 years now and the quality and freshness of their food remains 5 star. Their curry is one of our personal favourites. We have taken friends and family over the years and they too have become regular visitors and fans of the great flavour, taste and affordability. Although we prefer to try new restaurants, we find we cant stay away from them. If you haven't been, treat yourself and go today!

Would highly recommend. Wonderful service from friendly staff who go out their way to make it a pleasent experience. Home made cakes were delicious. I have also enjoyed their curries.

Our family have enjoyed the unique South African Indian curries and Fish and chips at Govender's Gourmet since before the recent change in ownership. The new owners have retained the delicious curries but have since added many improvements to the menu. We are now regular customers for breakfast and lunch, (there is something for everyone from Grandma, my wife, myself and my adult children). My favourite breakfast is the big breakfast with three eggs, a choice of five sides and coffee for under $15?! Grandma assures me the waffles are the best she has tasted. The lunches for under $10 are also the best value – try the open curry pie! With an ex-cruise ship masterchef in the kitchen we have never had a meal that hasn't been delicious and hasn't impressed. The service is efficient, courteous, friendly and homely. A definite recommendation.

Beautiful cosy place. Relaxed environment and delicious food. I regularly visit place for breakfasts and occasional lunch. Try Nutella parantha, the guilty food.

The sheer value of this neat little restaurant borders on the sensational. <br/>The new owners, an Austrian masterchef and his French Polynesian wife have added international dishes and style to the Indian fare of the original owner and expanded the service to a breakfast, lunch and dinner operation. <br/>Excellent food, generous serves, fine service, friendly proprietors and yesteryear prices.

-So far i had the Grilled Cod and Curry Combos and they were amazingly good, it also comes in a big portion which is      even better and for the quality and quantity, it is really a good deal. <br/>-The ambiance was really nice and cozy and the owners are very friendly. <br/>-Will definitely come for more.

Had a fantastic fresh home cooked Prawn curry here, the trifle is lovely too, the place is welcoming , clean and reasonably priced, the owners are lovely , it's definitely a hidden gem.

Love this little place! The staff are extremely friendly and the food is delicious. I'll always have my morning tea before work and sometimes have lunch there. They've got the best chicken burgers, well served with fries for only $9!! By far my favourite café around the area. Would recommend you to stop by and have a bite :)

Writing recommendations isn't my Forte but I feel this is deserving of the effort , I have visited Govenders Restaurant on numerous occasions over the past twelve months and I have never been disappointed with the food or service. The decor i<br/>s neat , tidy and exceptionally clean, A comprehensive menu offers a large selection of meals to choose from which includes steak and fish dishes ,curries chillies and burgers, Also available are a selection of lunch time specials for under ten dollars , I would recommend you add Govenders Restaurant to your list of places to dine.

Went for dinner the other night and had a great curry and healthy salad. Their coffee is also excellent quality. I was very happy with the friendly and efficient service. I also noticed that they are now open for breakfast and lunch which means I can come more often!

Ive had the basa fillet fish and chips and it was great with a reasonable price ,the owner of the restaurant are really friendly and the environment of the restaurant has a great vibe to it.<br/><br/>It has made me become a regular at this restaurant .Thumbs up

This place has been renovated. Coffee and cakes are at reasonable prices. If you are after grilled fish and chips, worth a try. Prices are reasonable too.!

Had a lovely meal at Govenders during the week - had their open beef burger which was topped with bacon and egg. Excellent value served with a smile. Will visit again next week!

My family and I are regulars at the newly revamped Govenders Gourmet Grill - and with good reason. It is one of very few places in Joondalup, or the northern suburbs generally, where you can get a delicious, as-good-as-home-cooked meal, at an affordable price for the whole family to enjoy. I can't resist the addictive masala-spiced grilled fish, and the authentic South African-style Indian samoosas, and my husband always enjoys the hearty house-made beef goulash with spaetzle; you are not likely to find these mouth-watering dishes on a cafe menu anywhere else! Everything is expertly prepared in-house and cooked with care and pride, and diners are always welcomed with a friendly smile.

Our perfect Friday night sitting with friends and sampling the fine delicacies that the team at Govender's Gourmet  serves. The casual ambience and family friendly restaurant ticks all the boxes. Our favourites are an array of curries including; lamb; prawn and chicken as well as the lighter touch of the perfectly marinated masala and tandoori fish teamed up with a greek salad or chips. The hidden gem in Joondalup: Since discovering this cosy restaurant, we are regular guests, enjoying the delicious food as an end of the working week treat or with friends for special occasions. The owners are dedicated to give you a good service and prepare a healthy and homemade meal for you. We personally enjoy the Austrian Speciality from the owner’s country of origin: Beef Goulash and homemade Spätzle, but also the Indian Chicken Veg Curry or one of the delicious healthy pan fried and not deep fried fish. We never start our treat without the highly recommendable Samosas, prepared from a recipe that the owner acquired from an Indian chef. If you enjoy a starter and like to round your meal with one of the amazing cakes or the homemade trifle, you can share a meal. Wine glasses will be provided if you BYO. We rate the restaurant with 5 stars.

Great find of quality food & coffee when going for dinner last night...<br/><br/>My wife had the grilled Snapper with salad which was beautiful moist & flavoursome. She enjoyed also to have this much healthier option compared to the traditional greasy Fish & Chips.<br/><br/>I had the Chicken & Vegetable/Pumpkin Curry which had just the right spiciness and loads of stunning authentic taste....<br/><br/>And another highlight was for us to finally find a place which offers scrumptious cakes (we had the Berry Cheesecake & Chocolate mudcake) and great Cappuccino and a real Espresso coffee!<br/><br/>Also for the quality of the whole experience together with friendly service it was very good value for money.<br/><br/>It was a secret hidden treasure to find for us since it is located in the side streets of Joondalup near the hospital, but we'll be back next week with some friends of ours...

What a shame. The first clue to this disaster was there was hardly anyone in there. It was all down hill from here. We were told they do not do battered fish & chips only grilled. What fish & chip shop doesn't do battered fish? My husband had the grilled & there was three small thiin pieces of fish on a bed of chips. I opted for my other favourite Steak Focaccia - oh dear -  first I was told that they only do this as a takeaway but because it wasn't busy I could have it. When it came out the steak was paper thin and barely covered inside and tough, then no shredded lettuce just big hunks that fall out with thick slices of tomato. The sweet chilli sauce was not drizzled over the contents but just spread on the focaccia. Hence no flavour at all. I will not be back or recommend to anyone. The original owners would be disgusted if they knew how therir place has gone down hill. $45 for this!!! Had to stop at Macdonalds on the way home!!! New owner - get out while you can & let someone who knows how to cater to the public take over.

We've been visiting this place regularly for years for fish and chips and have been meaning to post a review. Our last visit was a few days ago. The quality of food is great, place is impeccably clean and staff are friendly and eager to please. Best part for our family though is the range of salads they also offer....SO hard to come by for a F&C place! Coleslaw, rice, greek, you name it. We wouldn't go anywhere else.<br/><br/>Yes, they only do grilled fish now (think it's a cost issue) but that's what we order anyway so no problem.

Oh dear. This used to be an excellent place to eat in or get take away. We went there tonight to have fish and chips only to be told they don't do fried fish anymore - grilled only. What??? A fish and chip place that doesn't do fish and chips - crazy. New owners have taken over and this place is on a downward spiral. We opted for the curry instead which slightly resembled what we used to have but was so salty it was hard to eat. The place looked dark and there were no other customers in there - surprise surprise. We used to have to wait for a seat - not anymore. Such a shame. The owners really need to have a good look at what they've done to this place. Why buy a great business and then change it into something completely different? They bought a winner and are slowly killing it. Needless to say we will never go back.

Absolutely outstanding food and service! I work down the road from Govenders so if I'm working, I'm there for lunch. The food is consistently fantastic, and they always welcome you with a Big smile. My favourites would have to be the grilled fish and salad or the Chicken & Pumpkin Curry. Their portions are big and price is extremely reasonable compared to everywhere else in Perth. The Environment is very relaxing and I love their old school RnB Music. The Husband and Wife team do an amazing job on their Food, Service and Presentation. Well done and keep it up :) x

Great Fresh Gummy Shark and Fresh Pink Snapper. My wife and I love this place. Beautiful variety of salads, best curries & fish n ́chips. You should try the fresh Gummy or Snapper. Everything is very fresh & the place is very clean. Reasonably priced too, considering the huge portions and quality.

Wow what a disgrace! $23 for a tiny surve of grilled snapper (no chips). I don't know the Joondalup area too well but if there is another F & C shop around here go there. Though I would get something nice for my dad who has been in hospital for almost 2 months and sick of hospital food.... poor dad at least that made him appreciate the hospital food!

Best fish and chips in Perth. Very nice fish and chips... Large portions and a wide variety of salads and pasta salads to pick from as a side. Not many other fish and chip shops offer this type of variety. Not a formal dining experience.... It's more a smart casual experience which is great.

Pleasantly Surprised. My partner wanted to get fish and chips but I was very skeptical whether a place that offered so many dishes could do any of them well. The prices were quite high however the food was great and the portions were large. <br/>The Gummy Fish was done very nicely but I definitely recommend that people try the Mustard Fish which was delicious!<br/>I will definitely be returning to try their curry and steaks.

My mixed review. I have dined here a few times, and I absolutely love the fish. So light and tasty it can not be faulted. The one thing I dont like is that by the time you choose maybe chips and say salad the added prices get expensive. I had to pay extra for yucky tartare packaged sauce...definately should be homemade and come included in the price in my opinion. I think a set price would be better, like when you order the fish it comes with chips etc etc and you know what you are paying upfront...without having to work it out or get charged more than you wanted to pay. This establishment could easily cater for that. I agree it's more a place that provides seating with a meal, rather than a traditional restaurant.<br/>On all of my previous visits, the owner or his father has been sitting at a front window seat peeling pumpkin the entire time we were eating our meal. Nothing I have come across before, my visits have always been early evening never late, so even if it was our timing I don't think it was right considering the prices we paid and this being called a restaurant!<br/>But I have to again say best fish and I would go back just for that.

More of a takeaway with seating. I would only loosely term Grovenders as a restaurant in the same way I would MacDonalds or chicken treat<br/>. <br/>To my mind a restaurant has a menu that includes starters, mains, sides and desserts, it has waiting staff to take your order. Grovenders has none of these. Don't get me wrong it was quite good, but it is not a restaurant I would pick to go to on a date or catching up with friends.<br/><br/>There was only a few dishes, mainly fish done a 5 ways, a curry called curry and some schnitzels. The food was ok, in fact the fresh snapper was very good albite a tad expensive, it just would have been nice to have been made aware before going that this was a mainly a take away joint with tables to one side, and that the indian element was just a curried fish and a variety of meat curries. There was no variation on the curry, i.e. no mild, medium or hot, there's just curry! and there was only paratha available on the bread front. <br/><br/>if you are looking for an actual meal out with some choice and ambience this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a nice bit of fish and want to eat it there and then this will suit you down to the ground.

I've dined in and had takeaway from here and both were amazing! The fish is so tasty and cooked perfectly and the curries are great. Only problem we've had is when I tried to book a table we weren't allowed and was told first come first served.

Yummy. Well ana....you must be the only disgruntled customer i know ...everyone loves govender's. curries to die for, fish superb, schnitzel excellent...price...are you kidding - give away....try for yourself...there is one thing for sure....you will be back!!

Quality Food, quality price. Some people may think that the food price in Govender's is expensive but you pay for what you get. The food quality especially the fish is fresh, the homemade curries are sensational (even my mother in law thinks it's one of the best curries she has come across) and there is a huge varieties to choose from (the different marinated fish, steaks, burgers, salads, mushy peas etc). And the portion is huge. It's been one of our family favourite restaurant that we frequent. I guess the only way to prove it is you go and taste it yourself.

Dont agree with anna. I have been a customer at govenders for many years, If you appreciate a quality meal you will love this place. I dont at all agree with anna my meals are always amazing you seem to be more upset about the pricing compared to the standard fish and chip shop. This is not your standard fish and chip shop it sells curries , steaks fresh fish not like the norm it has byo and is a restarant, not just a takeaway, The staff are always friendly and the food is amazing.I love the fresh salads and the fish and chips are not expensive if you want quality, if you are upset about the price go to mcdonalds! Govenders keep doing what you are doing you have a fabulous resteraunt keep up the great work! And anna please learn to spell squid . Great place to eat for familys and the servings are huge .

Ana. Really dis-satisfied!! Paid $42 for 2 fish and chips with sqid rings and pineapple. The chips were horrible, squid rings over cooked and like rubber, fish was tasteless and dry!! The only thing that was ok was the pineapple fritters and the garden salad that was an extra $5 for a small size!! Really need to improve quality or dramatically reduce their prices!!!

Fantastic. Family friendly - need to book. Genuine fish and curries. If you have any spare lemons-take them with you. We are frequent diners here. Ozdreamer.
