Review George Street Cafe And Patisserie - Kensington

Elisa Daniela
Lovely atmosphere and customer service. Enjoyed the low key aspect, which is very french. Great coffee and had the Eggs Florentine, which was good. Took home some yummy looking patisserie goodies for later.
Amy K
Lovely Breakfast with coffee. Parking just by the restaurant which is nice.

My regular coffee spot as of late, used to go down to Hoopla but much prefer the coffee here. Good size serving for the price as well. I would of given 5 stars but the Cinnamon scrolls don't have the traditional cream cheese frosting so I had to deduct a single star. If this cafe decide to add the frosting I will amend my review. Keep it up guys Inspector X

Ordered one of the eggs benedict options - advocado and roasted tomato, swapped out the bread for a croissant, really tasty and quick service.

A bustling local cafe with well presented and tasty breakfasts. Staff are a little shy, but the food speaks for itself.

Pretty good over all. Great service. Croissants were pretty average, I wouldn't recommend getting it if you're an enthusiast. Eggs Benedict was pretty good. The hollandaise sauce was creamy and light. Personally I like the sauce to have a bit more lemon/vinegar in it to help offset the saltiness of the ham. I think maybe infusing a bit of dill as well would elevate the meal over all. The bread for it was fantastic. Egg cooked perfectly. Ham was nice and gave a decent amount of it as well. Over all would recommend giving it ago. I think their toasties would be the way to go as the bread I had was really enjoyable and honestly what I will remember of the cafe

Staff that listen with ZERO ATTITUDE!! There are MANY other restaurants in Perth that could use this business for training their own staff. Delicious food and generous portions. Just overall an EXCELLENT cafe.
Lydia
I absolutely loved this place! Went there for the first time last week & tarts were great 100% enjoyed them. Nice & cosy cafe, highly recommend!

Upon entering, I was met with the incredibly unfriendly woman who owns the place. My ‘good morning!’ was met with a snarl. She seems to greet some regulars but her unfriendly demeanour is known amongst locals. Her husband is a talented chef which keeps this place going. Great French tarts in the cabinet. There are much friendlier and welcoming places with great food on the strip like Sixteen Ounces and Social Manna.

Just discovered a gem in our neighbour hood. Drove past and noticed lots of people so thought I’d give it a go. So glad I did. Delicious coffee, quaint decor, nice music, very clean. Fabulous selection of pastries. Being a baker myself, I find it difficult to get quality pastries in Perth. Most bakeries take shortcuts like lining tart shells in chocolate so they can last more than one day without going soggy, but that is not a true tart. Or they use premixes for cakes, so they don’t taste authentic. Had an almond croissant and hubby had a passion fruit tart. Both were excellent! Service was prompt and friendly. Breakfast menu looks good, as does the lunch menu. Will definitely be coming back to sample other things. So happy I found this place.

Nice and busy little cafe with some yum GF cakes to have with your coffee. I had the GF choc brownie, which was nicely rich and chocolatey. Other half had orange-almond GF friand-type of cake, which, going by the small section I was allowed, was quite moist, soft, and yummy. The music playing in the background is some cool jazz.
Nice place. Would come back.

Your average breakfast or brunch cafe, quite nice and obviously fresh food and okay prices, sweet staff, a really cute environment and good overall !

Visited this place for brekky today after decent reviews on Zomato.
We were welcomed immediately after we opened the door and were seated straight away and menus given.
Ordered Almond croissant, Long Mac & Latte which were served well. Coffees were delicious & so was the croissant. Well done barista!
For main brekky we ordered Huevos Ranchero served with 2 tortilla (would have loved a 3rd one) & Avocado, roast tomato on multigrain toast with scrambled eggs (swapped from poached). Huevos Ranchero was full or flavour with beans and chorizo qas succulent with well poached eggs floating on top of avo smash. The flame grilled chilli garnished on top made it extra special. The roast tomatoes and scrambled eggs were delicious too. Also took away orange & almond cake which was good.
Food: 5/5
Service: 5/5
Ambience: 4/5
Recommendation to management: In the menu, please add "Extras" field with costs for extra bread/eggs/beans/avocado etc.
Overall a great little place to have brekky!
Will return.

There is not much to say except:
- Best Hot Chocolate around
- Best French tarts around (highly recommend the lemon)
- Delicious, fresh meals!!!
I am just so glad we have a cafe like this in the neighbourhood!!! I would be lost without them!!!

Just had another amazing breakfast here. Thought Sayers sister had best scrambled eggs until now. Wow. Fabulous and will be back for more. Coffee is fine and great chef & staff. Thank you!!

It is a really nice and secluded café in the area. It is quite small so it is private. The toasties and their big breakfast is our choice this time but the highlight of our visit has to be the tart! The sour cherry and raspberry tarts are to die for! They are not too sweet but also not too tangy and the custard is perfect with good pastry. This place would be perfect unlike any other crowded brunch places!
Ivan
Average big breakfast which didn't have the usual mushrooms but had baked beans instead. Bread slices were tiny. A well known place for the tarts & a friend of mine drives a fair distance to get a fresh almond croissant. Nice seats and cool decor. You can even watch your meal being cooked in the back of the store.

Really nice cafe for Kensington locals. Small inside with adequate outdoor seating + water bowls for dogs.
Saturday mornings are breaky central at most places so we decided to get there a bit early today to avoid a crowd. We each ordered the avo, roast tomato + poached eggs on toast (one serve with wholegrain, one with Strange Grains gluten-free toast). Eggs were perfectly soft, avo was perfectly ripe and the tomato was perfectly roasted and not soggy.
Also ordered a takeaway almond croissant which other reviewers raved about. Gigantic and fresh, it was just an ordinary croissant - nothing OTT or different to the multitude of almond croissants I've had in the past and nowhere near the top of my faves list.
Coffees were also not en pointe. The long macchiato was served in a takeaway mug (you can bring your own) and tasted okay according to my breaky pal. My skinny capp looked the part -- a perfect ratio of foam to coffee -- but there was something about the taste that I didn't like. Instead of being a strong, full-flavoured morning brew, it had a weak odd taste that just didn't hit the spot and left me pining for a better cuppa elsewhere.
If they lifted their coffee game, George St could be a real little winner. As it stands, it's alright if there's nothing else available but I wouldn't go racing back.

Um ... Yum. We had a late breaky, early lunch after finishing off the move. The location is really all that lets this place down; roadside in the 'burbs. The service was ok, not overly friendly but not rude. The food though was great. We shared Mexican beans and jamon with potato tortilla. Both were superb. Mr 13 had bacon and eggs while the vegetarian had haloumi and salad. Milkshake and iced chai all round. Because we were full of good food we took some delicious sweet bits and pieces home for later. I had lemon tart, he had apricot, the boy had a brownie and she had strawberry tart. All were to die for. Yum!

Not too far from the Albany Highway restaurant strip lies this hidden away suburban French cafe serving breakfast and lunch. Being a sucker for sweet things, baked goods, and pastries, I was interested in seeing what was on offer from the patisserie section of the display cabinet. A range of tarts greeted me and I was immediately drooling over which ones to pick. In the end I chose the raspberry tart, Paris Brest, and also picked up an almond croissant as part of my takeaway order. The raspberry tart has a lovely thin pastry, firm enough to hold the contents of a delicious light creme patisserie which partners well with the raspberries. The Paris Brest has a lovely light choux pastry encasing a lovely light almond laden cream which is quite rich but tasty. I saved the almond croissant for breakfast the next day and loved the slightly crunchy on the outside croissant, covered in slivered almonds which make the croissant quite rich. A lovely local cafe to drop by for some baked goods or grab a bite in a cosy comforting cafe. There’s seating inside and out with a retractable plastic wall to shield patrons from the elements.

What a delightful little café with friendly unpretentious service with a smile. I ordered the lamb shank pie with a side salad, and a pear juice. I sat outside under the covered patio to catch some winter sunrays. The food came out quickly and looked warmly delicious and generous. The pie topped with mashed potatoes was excellent with the lamb shanks packed with flavour and was melt in your mouth with lots of good sauce to mop up with the mashed potatoes. The salad was also tasty and was good to have some greens with the pie. Loved the juice. All in all a very nice café that is serving wonderful food. Definitely will be back to try their brekkie menu.

Absolutely delicious breakfast! Ordered the avocado, baked tomato one with a side of bacon and one salmon. . Fresh and huge sizing. Cute warm cafe with quick service! Love it, will be back :)

Conveniently located cafe, vey cute and homely with quirky decor. Service is friendly and courteous, I felt very welcomed. Had a satisfying breakfast and the coffee was great too. Can't fault anything, will be back to try the sweets!

First time here....had the bubble and squeak for breakfast....easily the best breakfast I have had in Australia! Coffee is great and cakes look yum!

Stopped by to grab lunch and coffee the other day. Not much in the way of premade lynch items but coffee was ok. Rating on coffee only! The almond crossiant was delicious though.

All I've tried from George St is the tarts. They are stunning. The lemon tart - fresh and semi-tart flavour, velvety textured filling, and a pastry crust to swoon over. Seriously, they are good!
Can't wait to return and work my way through the menu, in this cute little cafe with a friendly, local neighbourhood feel.

I didn’t know what to expect but on first impressions I thought it would be a quite ordinary café, serving ordinary contemporary Australian fare such as eggs hollandaise, etc but while they do offer the standard dishes, they also offer so much more.

We've started coming here regularly.
Had breakfast here the other day and was great! Can't fault a thing in terms of price/food/service/coffee.

Owners are so friendly and make the yummiest tarts. My favourite cafe in Vic park/Kensington area.

I've only been here the once, but the breakfast was delicious, coffee was good and service was great. I'd happily go back again. Place is quite small though, which may be a consideration if you're a larger group

Great cafe...coffee is nice and the hand made pastries and tarts and some of the best we've had.
My only criticism is the opening hours...so inconsistent.
They have no regular opening hours, and often shut due to personal reasons. To have a successful suburban cafe, you need regular opening hours otherwise people will give up coming for fear of it being closed.
Staff are friendly and the decor is nice.
Oh my stars… they've been open since February and I only visited them today!

I've driven past George Street Café and Patisserie on many occasions, the little café always looked busy, but I was either in a hurry or there was no parking, so I kept going. HOW SILLY AM I???

Today there was a car bay outside so I stopped and discovered that George Street Café and Patisserie is home to the BEST Almond Croissant that I’ve ever tasted in Australia.

In fact this beauty would have been quite at home in Gosselin my favourite bakery on Rue Saint Honoré close by where I lived in Paris last year.

Baked by Tod on the premises, my croissant can only be described as warm, crispy, flakey, buttery, almondy goodness, enveloping a proper filling of ground almond paste, and hooray! NO SIGN of the horrible gluggy custard so popular with some bakers here.

I was in croissant heaven. Paired with a long black coffee prepared by Barista Jin, it really was the perfect way to recover from my early morning run to Office Works to buy a new office chair.

The café itself is quite small, unpretentious, slightly quirky and comfortable. The menu is comprehensive without being OTT and everything looked fresh and wholesome.

There were lots of people (some with dogs) sitting outside enjoying their breakfast and watching the world go by.

Highly recommended

I dropped into the George st cafe today for the very first time on someone elses recommendation and ordered the jaffles and coffees and a box of their divine looking tarts to take away. The service was really friendly and they have a very relaxed and welcoming feel to their delightful cafe....what a treasure they are to have found. We will be back definitely to dine in next time. The jaffles and coffees where really really good and the sour cherry tart was absolutely delicious. Thankyou for creating such a wonderful place and for making such memorable food.Loved it

I had breakfast here this morning with my two small children and was pleasantly surprised. Although not a brilliant location for toddlers the food certainly made up for it. None of the meals were showy, just fresh, delicious ingredients cooked to perfection. Everything I would expect from a French cafe. I sure hope you start to do dinners as it would definitely become a hit with the locals as a spot to walk down especially if it was BYO! Thank you, I'll definitely be recommending you!

Service this morning was awful... Letting 3 customers behind us to have their coffee 1st
Basically the service is unprofessional and unfreindly
Will not return

I had one of the best coffees I've had in Perth at the George Street café today. Pretty damn delicious especially when accompanied by a jamon serrano and manchego cheese baguette toasted and topped with rocket, not to mention brought out by the chef. Love the vibe and the French/European influences and the staff are great, already a regular.

A little slice of French heaven in the burbs...who would have guessed! Wonderful food and service...I've been here several times and never been disappointed. Try the pasta and the charcuterie (esp the parfait) which are all made by the chef. The tarts are delicious with a large variety of choices - but get in early or else they'll be gone. Strawberry tart is my fave!

I wouldn’t have found this little hidden gem if it wasn’t for Miss Lordcaquah. I didn’t know what to expect from George Street Cafe when we were organising our quick coffee-before-work date. I was pleasantly surprised and blown away!. Breakfast of champions. Since we only had 20 minutes to eat and drink we both just grabbed a coffee and pastry each. My love for almond croissants and crumbled desserts are on par. Making it a really tough choice for me when both options are on the menu. Luckily, Miss Lordcaquah ordered one of the two that I was eyeing – the almond croissant. In hopes of stealing a bit of her croissant, I ordered the blueberry crumble muffin. They were both freshly baked, crispy in the right places, slightly warm, buttery, and not overly sweet. Delicious and satisfying! I’ll be back to try more baked goods!

Love this place! Food is always good and coffee fantastic. Run by a lovely and very attentive husband and wife team. Oh and did I mention the tarts, to die for!!
The coffee wasn’t bad and complimented our food well.

I loved the décor of George St as it is very provincial (in a good way) and homely with food to match.

I’ll defiantly coming back to this back to this café and so I guess I’ll see you there :)

George St Cafe and Patisserie is such a pleasant surprise. At first I thought it would be your standard "off-the-strip" suburban cafe offering below average coffee and the like but I was mistaken.

The food was quirky and authentically French rather than contemporary Australian which made a nice change and the coffee was on the good side of not bad. The interior design works well and complimented an already pleasant experience.

Little Gem. Went here for breakfast on Sunday. Well priced and quick service. Breakfast was lovely as well as their Sour Cherry Tart, which was divine. Looking forward to my next trip back.

Honest Food and Service. Yes, I liked this place...good, honest food with generous helpings. Welcoming with no pretentiousness. I imagine soon you'll have to wait for a table!

Tiny cafe so don't bring a crowd. Great food and excellent coffee.

Watch this space, folks.... I'm conflicted about writing this because I really want the delightful couple who own this to do well (and stay open), but I also love that it's little, quaint and not very busy - for now. I predict this will change though. Fabulous food made with quality ingredients, the best coffee I've had in years (to the point where I've had too many and now have an eye twitch), lovely relaxed atmosphere and great service from genuine owners... is a great recipe for success. I had the breakfast sausage tagine which was delicious, spicy (but not too hot) and the eggs were poached perfectly. Can't wait to go back and try the lunch menu. My recommendation... don't go there because I want to keep it all to myself :-).

Little Gem - great little spot offering awesome breakfast! Nutella crepes, jaffles, corned beef hash, bruschetta, eggs and great selection of pastries. Open for lunch too :)

Great food, lovely people. Small husband/wife cafe that serves breakfast and lunch. The Irish Fry was delicious and the charcuterie plate looks amazing (we didn't have this but will try it next time!). The food looks fresh and homemade from scratch. The lemon tart was beautiful.. yummy!

Nice little spot. We stumbled across this little café by accident on the long weekend- it's only been open for a week. French inspired breakfast and lunch offerings with nice looking pastries as well. Coffee was good, as was the eggs benedict. Look forward to making this our local.
Note- this café has replaced the Thai restaurant and is next to Ayhans Turkish
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
There’s a new kid on the block, and you can call him George. Or if you want a more official name, George Street Cafe and Patisserie will do. Nestled in a quiet street in Kensington the uber cute spot is the perfect location for food and chats in the sunshine, so what did we do? Just that. E and I visited George Street a few weeks back on a rare morning off together and let me tell you, it’s the perfect spot for a brunch date! We decided to pull up a chair outside to enjoy the weather and scouted the menu. E had already decided on her usual favourite (eggs hollandaise), and being the food freak I am, I’d already checked out the menu online (just to make sure we had options). As well as regular breakfast treats the George Street menu features a few different options including the Irish Fry (black pudding of course) and Nutella Crepes with Hazelnut Praline (um YUM)! As delicious as chocolate goodness and Irish traditions sounded, I had a huge hankering for my usual Smoked Salmon Benedict ($19). Copying E today friends, sorry! First up the coffee. My usual Soy Long Macchiato appeared almost instantly on the table, even though the small cafe was buzzing with people. Creamy and strong, it was the perfect start to my morning meal. Served in a very Instagram worthy grey cup and saucer I will admit I spent at least five minutes marvelling its caffeine beauty and may have taken a picture (or six) to E’s dismay. She still laughs (or scowls) at me when I take photos of food… after nearly a year and a half of blogging you’d think she’d be used to it by now! Next time I’ll be ordering a mug because it really was that good, and these days I need at least two cups of brew to get me through! Our breakfast did not take long at all to come out to our table. A generous serving, the dishes looked absolutely delicious and exactly what we wanted. Ordering poached eggs is can be so hit and miss, but George Street was definitely a hit. Egg goo to the max, with one stab of outer forks
