Love the daily lunch specials. From steak sandwich, chicken wrap and half parma etc. All for just $19.90 and comes with a drink. Service is excellent and the food quality & portions are good. Food comes out very quickly. If you like watching sports, they have several televisions broadcasting different sports channels which you can enjoy whilst eating and happy hour with friends.
I’ve visited this pub twice this year and enjoyed both visits. The first I went for Easter lunch which was nice and chill as the place wasn’t over crowded and the second time was a Saturday night which was a busier night.
First visit: I ordered the gnocchi with peas, asparagus, tomato and ricotta which was super tasty and the gnocchi melted in my mouth. My brother order the chicken Parma which was huge and filling. We also had a bowl of fries to share which was a nice accompanying dish.
Second visit: I had the scotch fillet steak with mushroom sauce and vegetables. I requested for my steak to be medium rare and it came out very soft and pink. My mum ordered the pan fried ricotta gnocchi with pumpkin, feta and sage which had really nice flavours. My dad had the pea and mushroom which melted in his mouth. We ordered a side of fries again as we enjoyed them so much the first time! I also had the lemon and lime butters with my meal. The service was a bit average tonight which was probably due to it being busy.
I’ve had an occasional beer and a pub meal for years at Skinny Dog in Kew. Convenient to tram routes 48 & 109. I came through recently and sank a couple of happy hour schooners solo while I waiting for someone who I was catching up with for dinner up the road. They have a good happy hour on a Friday evening from 4-7 and my Iron Jack schooners was only five fiddy. I’m normally a pint sorta guy but happy to downsize at those prices. I haven’t eaten here in ages and the menu is quite different but I must remember Thursday night is Parmageddon night... I’m always trying to find parma nights that aren’t on your standard Tuesday and it appears I have.
Overall a pretty easy going venue with some good food and cheap drink options. Certainly best pub venue in the Kew area.
Skinny Dog is local for me so been many times for lunch and tried nearly everything on the menu. Food is fresh, tasty, good quality and well priced. They offer the typical pub options and lunch specials but also some more refined dishes and a great specials board. Specials included barramundi, seafood linguine and chocolate fondant (only $12!).
Location is excellent right in the heart of Kew Junction with ample parking and transport options. Ambiance is also excellent, it is clean and modern and diners are well to do.
Suitable for just about every type of dining or drinks. Will definitely return.
3.7
The Skinny Dog Hotel is a fantastic venue. It has everything. Great bar at the front. Dining spaces and airy back bar. The clientele are top notch Kew boozers. Classy pub tab at front with the dish lickers on the big screen. Twosheds will return to eat here in due course.
Dropped by this place for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy but I wasn't too fussed since I was hungry. The waiter didn't seem too enthusiastic about her job but other than that the chicken parma was the best I've ever had and the chips were really crispy. It really hits the spot. Probably will be our go to place for a parma now
GREAT LOCAL
Great food. We had a mix of starters that were lovely and light. Calamari was delicious as were the croquettes.
The Parma that came out was huge and looked amazing. I had the burger which was a great patty and bun.
The beer selection was extensive and the staff Everett friendly and made us feel welcome.
This is my second time here (this time for lunch as opposed to dinner the first time) as the parmas are pretty legendary. It's a family friendly casual kinda place and the reasonable pricing reflects this. A pub style atmosphere complete with sport on the TVs, I absolutely love the chunky chips that come with the parma. Burgers, pizzas and steaks round out the menu as well as of course hot dogs, but I'd recommend the parma given it's what they are renowned for and it certainly lives up to its delicious reputation.
We came for drinks and were impressed , great options on the menu , a step up from your standard pub fare. A good place for a meal , a quick snack or just drinks .... worth a visit.
I had the lunch deal $19, a caesar salad and lemonade. The salad was crunchy with some anchovies, parmesan and the egg was just perfect. A pretty good deal, although around here you can cheaper lunch with similar if not better quality. However the ambience here was perfect with two tellies you can enjoy your sport whilst munching your salads
A quiet Monday lunch but one of our best. A modern pub and menu with the usual suspects.
Our orders:- their famous Parma isn't famous for no reason. Up there with the best I've had, huge serve & good beer battered chips.
The Kyoto Burger was nice - chicken was amazing.
A go to in Kew for sure!!! 😃
You've got to respect the reliability of this place. Decent pub fare, accommodating staff, and ever present espn and foxtel for my fix of nba games. Add on fair value, fifteen dollar lunch menu during week days and a selection of well executed usual suspect pub fares, what you get is me coming back repeatedly.
DO: The Parma - it's what they're known for. Also the Sunday roast was a bit of a hit too with the jus and mushroom sauce.
DON'T: Like my suggestions? Then there's plenty of other pub favorites too.
TIP: Park in Leo's carapace. Walk in through the back door and take a seat outside where you can enjoy the sunshine and watch sport on the Telly.
We went here for our work Christmas lunch arriving after 1pm so we missed the busy lunchtime crowd The bar area was still busy as well as people playing pool. We sat inside as some work mates wanted to watch sport on the tv's. The prices of meals were reasonable & meals were generous and delicious. I ordered from the lunch special a half parma with chips & salad $15. There is a large range of beers and ciders. It a great place for causal lunch.
Sunday evening dinner with the family. Casual sports bar with a informal dining area. Attentive staff and impressive menu. We ordered the parmas, fish and chips and a side of broccolini. Servings were very generous and the food was delicious. Overall a great place for a casual meal, great food and drinks with friends and family.
Best chicken parma I've ever had! Great sauce/cheese/meat ratio for a balanced flavour. Easily shared between two people for a good feed. I will be back!
I generallydespise trivia night. I must admit the host was very good and I actually stayeduntil the end. I liked the parma it was very good.
I love the menu here in conjunction with all the special/themed nights. From trivia to steak night, there's always something on at the Skinny Dog. We devoured the half serve parmas with salad and steak fries. The servings were generous and the quality was superb! I'll be back for salad and wine night soon!
My friends and I come here quite a bit on a Sunday night for a casual and quiet dinner. On this occasion we decided to have dinner on a cold Saturday night and found ourselves distracted from our meals by lots of drunk, loud young guys watching the footy in the back bar room. We even had a drunken lady decide to join us briefly as we were eating!! Okay, back to the food- The menu only has a couple of non red meat or vegetarian options which means I normally only have a choice between a veggie risotto or a chicken Parma. I decided to go veggie risotto (beetroot, beetroot and more beetroot), whilst my friends had the Vietnamese chicken burger (she didn't like the oily and slightly slimy texture of the chicken); the salmon (he loved it); and spaghetti bolognese (she enjoyed it). The wait staff are lovely and the food doesn't take too long to arrive.
Went there on Thu night, it was Parma night. Big portions and reasonable pricing. Was quite busy, yet we got a table almost right away. Standard pub meal.
The Skinny Dog, Kew, 16-06-16
The renovated Hotel just up from the Kew Junction is a welcome change from the ‘standard’ (that is being polite) ALH group of Hotels. This hotel has a great contemporary rustic feel to this venue at the main bar and dining room area at the front of the venue. Then with the extension they have gone with a very contemporary fell. I have entered this venue for a few years now and welcomed the addition to the back of the hotel and the slight changes to keep the venue fresh in a very competitive market.
The waiters were all well attired and completing their duties with a warm smile and thoughtful attention to their customers without being over bearing. Dinning with a friend and colleague after 8pm on the hotels chicken parmigiana special night I chose the long time favorite of the standard or close to the classic chicken parmigiana. As I thought start at the beginning of the special menu, then venture to other flavors on following nights. So for our $20 we received our chicken parmigiana with chips & salad and a beer (Glosh..? don’t quote me on that point, as it was a very long day and the first beer did not touch the sides, but, it was good beer)
The beer was served with pace and the chicken parmigiana was delivered from the kitchen within a few minutes after that. The salad was fresh with just enough dressing to give good flavor and not to drown the salad or over power it. The Chips were freshly cooked, so, to the parmigiana ….
1 large chicken breast cut and pounded out to be the size of a large plate, great for the diners who eat with eyes and want SIZE over everything else….! Thus the chicken was slightly over cooked, dry and crisp on the bottom. The tomato sauce was well seasoned and flowing off the chicken with the cheese was well grilled it was a good example of a chicken parmigiana.
I have a preference for either a cut to give even thickness to the chicken breast, then crumb and cooked the chicken on a flat grill. Or alternatively, cut and very slightly pounded to even the thickness of the chicken breast, but, keep a thickness of a least a centimeter or two to give integrity to the chicken breast and to hopefully to keep the breast moist. Then top with your favorite ingredients or just with some lemon…..!
I will return to this hotel as it is backed by a group with solid industry pedigree with a collection a good to great hotels in the Melbourne area and further afield. On another night I will venture through their menu and taste their culinary skills as the menu has a great selection of items to choose from.
The spicy chicken burger with chips is really good, the chicken is very crispy. It is a generous serve and their staff is very polite and friendly.
I can only comment on the parma but it was really good! The decor is good and the outdoor good too. Need to stop the smokers though. Would definitely come back for parma....
Big and Beautiful?
If you love over-sized, humongous Chicken Parma that can feed 2 people easily for around $25 then this is the place.
Spare some notes for a couple of drinks, I'm sure there'll be a few drinks to go with it.
It has been a few years since they've renovated the place, what a fantastic modern renovation. One of the great space in Kew, especially to watch sports Live Telecast, AFL is coming soon.
Sometimes bigger is not always bigger. Chicken Parma filled the plate, so it was much bigger than your normal parma....so I appreciate the value. I found the crumbs used on the parma were really flaky and kept falling off. Other than that small issue the parma was well cooked and included a decent serving of chips on the side.
'Home of Australia's best Parma' Allegedly. Probably isn't, but comes really close. Great Parma, and so huge I couldn't even finish it. I think I've had a better Parma in the best, but this definitely comes close. For a pub meal, it's as good as you're going to get. And it's cheap, if you go on the right night!
Skinny Dog, the friendly pub. Oozes with class. The food is great, the environment is fabulous and sets the scene for a good night. When in doubt, always go there to get a classy pub meal- the parma is fantastic, the chunky chips are yummy and the sandwiches on offer is top class. If ever in doubt defs hit this place up :)
Always fantastic here. Food is classic pub with a modern touch. The parma is delicious every time and the staff are fun and knowledgable!
Hope it never closes and the parma never changes ;)
Popped in for a quick Parma with a mate, Had the "Paua to burn" full size Parma, had the one with pineapple & ham, top notch but changed a little since last time?? Only $20 on Thursday , super value.
extensive menu on offer. Love the parma. Good atmosphere.

This is an old favourite. Maybe like a man's best friend, the skinny dog (pun intended haw haw) just has something that works. Good quality food, nice big expansive area warming throughout the year, and damn fine palmas. Do it.
Family friendly pub. I had the steak sandwich which was huge, had everything you wanted in it and came with a decent serving of chunky chips. The other meals (burgers and fish and chips) were equally as substantial - even the kids meal! A great place for a lazy afternoon.
Was a bit disappointed with the slow service but the parmi lived up the the hype! My eyes were bigger than my stomach and ordered the full size, obviously couldn't finish it (it was like an entire bird) and asked for a take away container. The waitress politely explained that because it's already heated twice, the chef doesn't allow it. Totally understandable, but I think if you're paying $27 for something and have been cautioned against it and still decide to do it, that's your choice.
Decent menu for a pub. Had the Chicken Quesadilla which was delicious and more than enough for a main meal. It's not a cheap place to go considering a light snack costs $16 and a bottle of Chardonnay cost $38, however the service is good and the atmosphere is fun, especially on a Friday night. Will definitely go back
Fantastic Pub. Food is sensational probably one of the better pubs around. Great selection of tap beers. The Chicken Parma is one of the best offered in Melbourne. Make sure you loosen your belt if you order the full size Chicken Parma. Enjoy this place you will be going back again and again.
Toodles
The Skinny Dog hotel continues to offer Melbourne's biggest Chicken Parmagianna, and now probably also one of its best...
It's a friday burger kinda day! The Skinny Dog High St burger is the way to go!!
Takes it time but yum!. The service is often slow but well worth the wait. In particular their salmon and pasta - YUMMM!
A place to go with friends. But go for the atmosphere, the food is not overly special. Delicious chips however
Good Food, Great Value. Some friends and i were looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite for lunch today and stumbled across the Skinny Dog in Kew. Quite a unique looking venue with better than average service and an excellent range of beers and wines.
Must say I was pleasantly surprised with the apparent 'new menu' that was on display. I personally tried the fusion fajita today and it was amazing. The combined flavors and textures were a delight and the portion size was just right.
Although I cant speak for the other guests that were with me and their own meals, we certainly all agreed that we would be back for another feed sometime soon. Good job guys...hopefully the next occasion is as good!
PARMA!. One of the biggest and yummiest parma's I have had in a long time! Chicken tasted really fresh and parma wasn't oily. The ham and other ingredients all were equally enjoyable and went well with the meal. The chips and side of salad complemented the meal well and held their own on the plate.
Will definitely return for parmas and beautiful beer garden atmosphere
Amazingly accommodating for fructose malabsorption!!
We went there last night for dinner and had the Parma. Can't go there without trying this! I normally eat lots however only just got through the full size one and my wife was chockers after the half size. Would definitely recommend to the hardcore Parma fans!
Weird name though !. Well, no matter name is a bit funny, but food is good. I liked it. We had our staff party here and I fully enjoyed here. The room for drinks is also nice. I would love to visit this place again.
Love the Skinny Dog! Food is always delish (especially the pizza) and despite the place often being packed out, the staff always take the time to give great service. Recommend for anything from a family dinner to after work drinks
Love the skinny dog, the food hits the spot on a lazy sunday afternoon. The beer garden is great especially after its been so hot lately and they have water misters spraying cool refreshing water on you. Cannot see what the other reviews are about(@Foodette they call them ribs for a reason, and most mains are over 15 dollars except maccas, which is probably your favourite place to eat) couldnt fault anything here been 100s of times and will return a 1000 times more
Biggest Parma (maybe). Love coming here for a massive feed on cheap Thursdays. The parma is huge, almost falling off the plate but still super tasty. They offer some different flavors but the classic is my pick. (I have heard from friends you can share a parma for an extra $5, which I think would be a wise choice for small appetites.) I highly recommend getting a Colonial Pale Ale as well. It is a harder to find brew around town, but goes down a treat with such a big meal.
Will Try Again!. A few weeks ago visited Skinny Dog and we were all happy with our meals! The challenge of best Parma brought us there but I must say it wasnt the highlight although came about third on Master M's list. Malvern Hotel is still at the top thus far. Our calamari was spot on, fresh, dressing on the side and with loverly salad. The san chow bai(?) with grilled chicken was supposed to be a share plate, but i hung onto it longer than my share! The lettuce crisp, grilled chicken moist and flavour was excellent - will order again. We loved the atmosphere and given it was obviously family hour, didnt feel like we were in a creche. Love the comfy booths too, staff friendly and constant.
The food was great, and I would definitely come again. Would think twice before bringing the family though. Kick-Boxing on every TV in the joint, including the bistro.
Best Chicken Parma ever!! But get the 1/2 Parma if you are not famished, as the regular Parma is Mega Parma Plus!!
Bloody ripper of a pub. The Parmi is bigger than a cat's head.
This is local, and we love it. The Parma is AMAZING. Unless you've got a massive appetite, go the half.
Recently updated their menu, and this has left us a bit peeved. Prices have gone up, and our usual bottle of wine has jumped up by $15 to $55 for something you could get for about $16 at Dan Murphy's or $36 at another pub. Major disappointment but doubt this will change.
Worth checking out though. Good food. Great venue.
Addictive. The parmas here are the best Ive ever had, I think Im addicted!
The Skinny Dog is one of my favourite restaurants, I go there as often as I can. The parmas are like crack. Highly recommend!
No longer a favourite 😏
Way too expensive for a pub and the chips have gone from delicious beer-battered home-made to...plain and boring.
Pork belly Thai curry is pretty tasteless and quite unpleasant.
Nice interior - good pub food. Agree with some of the other reviewers. Lovely interior and very nice renovation - we hadn't been in years. Food is fine but no fine dining. Standard pub food really. Good selection and tastes alright. Not too expensive either. Perhaps because the surroundings are so nice, you'd expect slightly better quality plus we got table serve. Staff was friendly. Good beers on tap though, some WA craft beer. Would be happy if this was my local.
The parma there is HUGE, great place for a great parma!
The Skinny Dog is nicely renovated and spacious for a pub. It has a good outdoor area to drink and share food. My group fan girl friends and I ordered the flat breads and dips, wedges, margarita pizza, and calamari to share. The flat bread was perfect. The dips were not home made. They were definitely purchased from Woolworths up the road. The balsamic vinegar dip was just oil.. The dipping dish was too deep to get the balsamic vinegar. The wedges were standard. The margarita pizza with cherry tomatoes and basil was quite bland. I didn't tate the calamari as it did not look appetizing. I would go back for the atmosphere and the beer garden.
Complete renovations. I used to go to the skinny on thursday nights when they used to have uni nights and i never had a boring night there...
nowadays though the place has become a little too upper class for me and have only been back recently for dinner...
the place is pretty nice in comparison to what it used to be an the food was surprisingly good to..
huge parma and tasted good as well...
we also had the fish pasta which had good flavour...
probably won't be my choice of dining for next time but i was glad to return to the new and improved skinny dog...
Amazed by the professional & friendly staff. Tuna special was cooked perfectly (rare)! Great meal! Gluten free options!
Upmarket whilst casual. First time eating here , and menu was actually really good, had specials such as fish of the day( spiced hapuka fillet with potato gratin with a divine sauce, cooked perfectly by a very busy looking kitchen, staff were attentive and energetic overall a very nice experience.
Went for a Parma thought it was great heard that a new menu is coming and the dishes I was told about sound great to can't wait to try them. Love the place
The bomb!!!. Love this place, the ultimate parma!!!! 10/10
1kg of chickens. My boyfriend wasnt lying when he told me the parma is huge here :S it was massive!!!! Definitely not the best one i have had but was still nice and fresh.
worth the $25? hmm dunno about that. On sundays is parma and pot night for $20 which is justifyable.
Place was nice n clean and service was excellent! Def be back again :)
HAd the Parma, delicious Abd massive as always. Not sure about the service, waitress forgot a drink which we then got for free, but if you order at the bar the batman finds it necessary to place a napkin under your drink...come on it's just a pub! Pricey and limited menu but will go back.
Parma's more expensive, and It's still huge, but not enough chips. Still worth it though :-)
So hard to get a table! Ever so popular place with a great menu. Good for family gathering.
A terrific pub with a decent bistro, it may be unfair to rate a food venue based on one meal, but when that one meal is a Parma, and the venue is a pub then there is fewer ratings more relevant... The Parma is big, one only needs cast their mind to foghorn leghorn sipping protein shakes on a treadmill and juicing up to picture the rooster on roids dwarfing your plate. Despite the popular addage "bigger is better" there are a couple of salient points the boys from superparma would have you note. The sauce is adequate rather than inspiring.. perhaps more unforgivable however is the distinct lack of a pork product, maybe that good old boy foghorn beat poor old porky to a pulp in training, but there isn't a shred of ham in sight. To be fair it ain't a bad Parma, and it ain't a bad pub but a shnitzel does not a Parma make. 7/10
