Review Little Pho Tuck Shop - Kew

Neat lil Viet eatery tucked away in a tight corner...the name is apt. Downstairs is for takeaway & upstairs has limited seating area - the walls papered with pages from Lil Golden books which also hang freely on the banisters. All the quirky touches makes it pretty unique but does not quite translate into great Viet hawker food. But then I have a lofty benchmark due to frequenting Viet eateries in Springvale. It was good enough but the rice Vermicelli with spring roll & roast pork was ok due to the pork being chewy & stringy & the nuoc cham pour over thin sauce not as good. Banh Mi (pork roll) & prawn salad was better. Had coconut ice cream with banana & pineapple fritters. The fritters were forgettable. Service is slow but that's fine as they are managing it themselves - looks family run. Prices are more upmarket. Turn up early for dine in & to get a parking spot.

Ordered takeaway Pork and Prawns Rice paper Rolls and Chicken Rice Paper Roll, all yummy but the price was beyond expectations as four rolls costed me $18 which is not cheap but given the location, higher than expected price may be justified.

Lovely Vietnamese restaurant where we ordered pork and prawn rice paper rolls, chicken Vietnamese pancake and grilled pork with rice. the rice paper rolls were huge! The biggest I've ever seen and it was filled with meat and prawns so no skimping. It was delicious. The pancake was crispy and full of flavour and overflowing with chicken and beanshoots. The rice was fluffy and the pork cooked perfectly. Everything was fantastic and the service was great as well. Great place for a meal. Highly recommend!

My take away order was ready on time for collection. The food was outstanding: fresh, tasty, plentiful and authentic Vietnamese. The man working there helped me carry my order down the stairs. I will definitely return

Bahn Mi is well worth the wait in the long line they usually have.

Best Pho and Laksa in Melbourne!

Upstairs is a quaint little eat is restaurant. Service was friendly and prompt and the servers spoke excellent English. The food was good simple Viet fare. I wasn't particularly impressed with the dumplings but everything else was spot on.

Awesome food and great service at very affordable prices. Perfect for students or anyone on a budget who still wants to treat themselves with quality dining. A hidden gem of Kew that is a must try.

Delicious surprise ! We walked by and the fresh herbs outside drew us in .The wallpaper and menus are all Recycled little golden books . It’s fun and then the food was light ,fresh and delicious.

Had a good take away experience today as we ordered something to take away the monotony of Melbourne Iso 2.0. I was craving a banh mi and the crispy pork version didn’t disappoint. At first glance I thought they hadn’t given me the chilli I had asked for but there was a chilli hit hidden under all that carrot. The bun was nice and fresh and the pork had crunchy Crackling to cheer up my afternoon.

KD had the chicken rice paper rolls which were plump and generous on filling with tasty mint and a great dipping sauce.

Just what we felt like for a weekday lunch.

Love me a banh mi. I’ve missed this place so many times because it’s hidden in a corner of the car park. The banh mi itself wasn’t amazing but the guy was really friendly and nice! The baguette wasn’t crunchy and had far too much carrot in it. 40 cent charge for using card which seemed a bit excessive.

Ordered the roast pork broken rice ($14) which was great. Service was quick and friendly. Food hit the table within 5 mins of ordering which was good as I was in a rush. Complimentary hot tea is placed on the table along with a large selection of sauces. I would return again.

Disappointed. I think we definitely ordered wrong dish. The place look so cozy and menu are so cute and attractive though. Ordered laksa but nothing like laksa. Way too many veggies with very little starchy noodles and taste bland. Waited a long time for a can of soft drink. And my friend who order noodle soup with not so fresh ingredient as well.

Before I went there for lunch recently, I checked the review ratings which seemed to be mixed with both good and bad experiences. Seating was upstairs with a takeaway bar downstairs. The décor and menu covers were old Little Golden Books. Unfortunately, my experience was at the lower end. The food was bland and pretty pedestrian. I had rice paper rolls which contained mainly vermicelli and very little of the prawn and pork. My vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and spring rolls was quite bland with overcooked vermicelli, and had to be spiced up with sriracha and chilli. My companion had bo la lot which was OK, but his beef pho was apparently a disaster with overcooked vermicelli and a weird taste which has been noted by other reviewers

Sadly to say our lunch are disappointing. Ordered 3 entree. Unfortunately our order got lost and we only got 2 items in 90 minutes. The last order of Vietnamese pancake had to be a take away. The pancake was very oily. We were still charged the cost of 2 half items. Very disappointed. We had better soup noodles at this place before.

Everything is very salty. The beef pho tastes extremely weird, not like pho at all. It is like in between beef gravy soup and pho soup. After eating my tongue and throat are uncomfortable, I believe there’s MSG.

A great little Vietnamese Restaurant tucked away behind the Kew Woolworths carpark, next to Chemist Warehouse. Very small place, but serves delicious Viet food. It was super busy on a Friday. I'm glad we called up earlier to make a reservation and pre-ordered our dishes. We got there just on time when a table had freed up and straightaway got served our food. Because I noticed, even if you make a reservation, the place is so small and packed, you might not even get your table at the reserved time. So on to the food.....I had the Vermicelli with Grilled Pork and Spring Rolls. Quite a catch for just $14. The rice vermicelli Little Pho uses, are the slightly thicker ones, which I say are the authentic Vietnamese type. Pork were well marinated, with a taste of lemongrass and fish sauce. Spring rolls were fried perfectly and cut up into small pieces to mix well with the Vermicelli noodles. My friend had the Rare Beef Pho. Very tender meat and sweet soup base.

The let down was the long wait just to pay our bill. We waited at least 20-25 minutes downstairs to pay. There was only one staff downstairs taking takeaway orders, making the Vietnamese Baguettes and cashier.

I'm glad there is another lunch option in Kew and the only Vietnamese Restaurant so far in Kew.

Great little place with really tasty food run by a really nice family. Have tried the fresh spring rolls, the bun (vermicelli & chicken) yum!, bahn xeo (crispy pancake) so very good, pho good. next to try is the laksa - yes is not Vietnamese but is on the specials board so will give it a try - they had run out last time. Will be back often. and cute kid golden books for wall paper & menu.

We indulged in a Vietnamese feast that showcased a scrumptious selection of dishes that are on offer at the Little Pho Tuckshop. We started with some ‘Goi Cuon - Rice Paper Rolls x 2 ($6.50)’. There are three flavour combinations on offer and we chose the prawn and pork rolls.

This is a little gem. Does exactly what it should, simple, inexpensive, and delicious. Friendly. Satay wrap and pho are awesome. Lovely for a quick fix.

I love this place! The staff are so friendly and easy to talk to. I have come in a few times for a Banh Mi on the go and it did not disappoint! Can't wait to dine in and try their sit down menu!

Beef Pho - the broth is tasty and good quality, but it could do with more beef. It is a worthy lunch option if you around Kew junction. Extra points for friendly service and the Little Golden Books wallpaper. Points deducted for serving hot soup in a metal bowl - ouch!

I'm addicted!! So glad we have found this little gem. Food is always fresh and delicious! Prices are cheap! Its so worth the small wait. Best pho I have ever eaten!

What a great find next to chemist warehouse in Kew junction. This little place has a crisp interior and sells the freshest food. Had the rare beef pho and rice paper roles. Whilst this is standard fare it was made by the look of the owner and staff with a lot of love.
Very reasonable price aswell.
Modern sleek 2 story black exterior tucked away at the bottom of the Woodford Ave next to chemists warehouse. Downstairs is for takeaway and a nice outdoor courtyard, whereas upstairs is the dining room.

Downstairs is a little sparse of an evening, as its all happening upstairs by that time. Upstairs is clean, modern and minimalist, except for the wallpaper which is lined with pages from children's books. I dont quite get the kids books as wall paper or why the menu is in a kids book, but hey its quirky and different. The tables are neatly appointed with cutlery, sauces, tea and little 'plants' which are veggie tops growing in water. A table by the window offers a view outside which as the night falls is quite nice even if its mainly a carpark and shops.

I sit down and go to have a cup of tea but the cup has already been used. No worries its replaced without complaint when asked for a new one. Im guessing Oolong tea. Nice and earthy. Not too strong.

Im feeling hungry so I order the Fried Prawns in Batter (4 for $8). They arrive in a lettuce cup with fried shallots and sweet chilli sauce. Im not sure where the basil and 'special seafood' sauce is but there's 5 fat prawns so I tuck in. The batter is slightly thicker than expected but not heavy or greasy. I taste a slight herb flavour inside the batter, maybe that's the basil? Fried beautifully and almost crispy enough to eat the tails without much chewing. Large, juicy and very tasty. 5 prawns for $8 was a bargain and it gets an 0.5 points for that.

Then onto the Rare Beef Pho ($11) which arrives in a stainless steel bowl. The broth is quite herbal. Not salty and not meaty. Quite a light tasting Pho with ginger aniseed or licorice and a touch too much onion flavour. It reminds me of Vietnamese version of homemade chicken soup. .here was no sliced chilli so I added a little of the chilli oil/sauce (which has hints of blackbean to my palette) . The scotch beef is thinly sliced and meltingly tender. It completely cooked through though and I would have liked it a bit rarer (Im being picky). There's 2 variety of noodles and both are soft and thin. Not the best pho I've had but pretty tasty, healthy and at $11 was good value.

I saw a few other couples sharing rice paper rolls, spring roll, Pho etc and it all looked really good. .

For $19 I was pretty happy and quite surprised at the cheap price given its Kew and I was expecting to pay $15 or $16 for a bowl of Pho. If your in the area I would recommend having a try.

Half way through a busy week with no groceries in my fridge, I was in desperate need for something that wasn't processed carbs or covered in chocolate. I remembered seeing this place when I went to the chemist & thought I'd give it a go. You can't see it from High Street because it's tucked away in the little avenue behind.

I ordered some chicken spring rolls & the tofu pho with beef broth to takeaway. Both were fantastic. Everything was packed so you could put it altogether when you were ready to eat. They supplied us with plenty of broth for the pho, which had lots of noodles and fresh vegetables. The bean shoots were also in a separate bag, which was a massive win to me because I usually get frustrated trying to avoid them swimming around in my pho.

The staff member at the front was really chatty & made the already short wait for the food seem even shorter. I'm sure some may think this meal was a bit bland, but for me this will definitely turn into my quick fix when I've had a long day & I'm looking for a healthier takeaway alternative.

Best value lunch on the go in Kew.. and healthy. Vietnamese crusty rolls with either BBQ chicken or pork fillwith salad, patè, gravy & chilli for $6! Can of soft or water $2. Thanks for comin Little Pho! Pic doesn't do it justice sorry.

This place is very interesting. The menu is inside a children's book. The content pages of the book become wallpaper. I had a rare beef noodles soup. The broth was simple, a little bland. They provide scotch fillet beef which is very good. The chillies were green chillies and not spicy. It's not very authentic Vietnamese noodles to me, it's all because I have tried a lot of very delicious Vietnamese noodles soup in Richmond.

Drive the extra five minutes and go to one of the amazing pho places in Victoria street. This place has small servings and not much beef in their beef pho.

Stopped in to get a Bahn mi for lunch and wasn't disappointed.

Ingredients were all super fresh, roll was jam packed, sauces were yum, $6, what else could you want?

The guy making them was a little slow, but what's the rush?

Perfect addition to the area!

UPDATE
Okay, they have increased their prices (reasonable) and most importantly their quality of food ...
9/10 $14.00 Bun (Vermicelli) - grilled pork was superbly marinated, lemongrass heaven, comes with Spring rolls too ...
Chef's Special Bahn Xeo (Crispy vietnamese Pancake) ... was next ... 8/10 $13.00.

Thank you and we/others seems not to mind the price increase, a lot of people queuing up for takeaways ... avoid lunchtime ... :-) JT-09/04/2018.

PREVIOUS MAR 2016.
Great find ...

Tucked in the side (back end) of a no-mans-land within Kew Car Park, so you must look a bit harder. The current owner took it over and converted this used to be "fuzion-restaurant" into a Vietnamese Tuck Shop.

Simple, great idea ....

Take Away downstairs and eat-in Upstairs, perfect ....

Simple and smart interior, main feature; Pages of old Comic Books pasted on the walls, looks modern, fun, bright and comical.

On the food side, I like it so far, simple menu taste good and priced well.

Those Grilled Lemongrass Pork Vermicelli can be addictive, light, fresh, sweet, tangy and spicy.

Must try the rest, Vietnamese Roll, Pho and the likes .... Very Good!
Coffee And Food
Can't imagine that you can get good pho in kew. I can say they make better food than Victoria st. Using story books as menu and wallpaper is so impressive. We all loved it!

Best chicken rice paper rolls I've ever had! Would highly recommend, I get them every time I go because they're so good!! They don't skimp on filling and have very generous sizes compared to many other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. This restaurant is a little gem in Kew :) The service is also excellent, very friendly staff!
AJ
Great little restaurant, love the wallpaper and golden books. We had a pho each and some rice paper rolls and they were delish! Can't wait to go back and try the fresh rolls at lunch

Good to have this restaurant in Kew. And the best banh-mi I've had.

The upstairs wallpaper and menu design is a must-see. I've personally never seen such decorations before, very entertaining.

Been here about half a dozen times and each time it's been the freshest food and the taste just blows me away. Been recommending this to everyone ever since. It's worth the trip from ringwood once a week that's for sure.
Mel Realtime
This is the freshest, most delicious Vietnamese food in all of Melbourne! The best bun and pho, and the upstairs seating area is delightful.
KayEl
Yes! Finally a good Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Kew. Very well located so .... maybe the foodies who frequent Leo's might just discover this gem in time. It is anyway as good as the favourites in Victoria Street, just no parking nightmares.
Enjoy.
Kat
Finally! A delicious and cheap lunch option in Kew! Place is a bit small and fills quickly but the service was quick even though they were full to the brim when we went. Rare beef pho and pork spring roll vermicelli are both highlights so far...
