Amazing coffee, with a fantastic menu. Couldn’t help but have a second cup of coffee. Had the cauliflower steak, which is both hearty and light. Husband loved the brussels sprouts. 3yo enjoyed colouring. Looking forward to coming back very soon! What a gem.

Really love this cafe - food is always top-notch, with high quality ingredients such as Peter Bouchier bacon and the coffee is consistently great. Love the outdoor deck too!

Hiatus is a cute little venue in Kew. You can enter via the front and the back, and the back has many outside tables that are dog-friendly.

We visited Hiatus because it is a Zomato Gold venue and that made it excellent value for money. It has a modern and fresh atmosphere.

My friend had the Avocado Crumpets and I had the Hiatus Benedict. My friend enjoyed first two Avocado Crumpets but found them a bit bland by number three and four. The Hiatus Benedict was well received, though I found the bacon a little soft and small, and the rosti's lack of crunch did not impress me. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the hollandaise was creamy but not over-powering.

I would return if Hiatus continues to be a Zomato Gold restaurant.

Came here on a gloomy morning. The interior was very clean and minimalistic, perfect to spend some time inside with the pouring rain outside.

For two we ordered:
- Fried gnocchi: The mushrooms on the gnocchi were very flavoursome, with the bursts of crunchy saltiness from the crumble that was sprinkled over the dish. The gnocchis were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, with a nice fluffy texture to it. The whipped feta mousse had a creamy texture and added a nice creamy element to the dish overall. I do wish there was a bit more sauce of some kind as the gnocchis were a bit bland just on their own.

- Hiatus Benedict: We chose the smoked salmon for this dish. This dish was interesting as it wasn’t like a normal egg Benny with the typical pork belly. The potato rosti was also a great substitute for the normal toast you would normally get. The saltiness from the smoked salmon and the crispiness from the potato balanced well with the freshness of the avocado. The creamy and rich hollandaise sauce also finished the dish well.

Overall this cafe tasted quite pleasant, with a great selection of savoury dishes. Definitely worth a try!

Enjoyed the Hiatus Benedict and mushroom pan fried gnocchi. Coffees and hot chocolate were a little milky for our liking. Would definitely order the Benedict again, we loved the Peter Bouchier bacon. As mentioned by another reviewer, the avocado could have been fresher and seasoned more.

A light-filled cafe with a relaxed vibe, Hiatus is a gorgeous spot for brunch in Kew. The service is impeccable, and with my Zomato Gold membership, it was excellent value for money here.

We started off with a skinny latte and a dirty chai. I really enjoyed my dirty chai - spiced and warming. The skinny latte was a very decent brew, and a pleasure to drink.

I took the healthy path and had the Nourish Bowl, and this was indeed a nourishing and filling dish. Fresh and clean flavours, coupled with different textural elements that make it very enjoyable with each mouthful. Both earthy in flavour but one with sweet undertones and the other nutty, the beetroot hummus and the tahani dressing made a really great pair.

My partner had the Braised Beef Cheek and it was incredibly tender and moist. No cutting or slicing required here, just pull it apart with your fork. The spinach helped balanced out the meatiness of the beef, and the buttery goodness of the mash, making this dish a 10 out of 10.

A very enjoyable brunch was had here, and I look forward to returning.

We were invited to Hiatus today a cafe that has potentially strayed a little from its well intentioned desire to differentiate themselves when they first opened, not too far however but just enough to relate to the masses. We now have avocado toast but a beautifully styled one comprised of egg yolk, feta crumb and charred corn with basil oil.

This was an enjoyable dish to eat but the ratio of heaving toppings required another slice of bread. The pancakes weren’t the most stunning rendition I’ve ever seen but the taste couldn’t be faulted. It wasn’t overly sweet and I really loved the blueberry mascarpone and anglaise and the texture of the pancakes themselves was perfection.

I also had a yummy tropical smoothie and ate as much of my husbands mushroom gnocchi as he would allow. I am generally not a mushroom fan but the gnocchi itself were beautiful in that delicious sauce. I definitely recommend paying Hiatus a visit

Original review
I tagged along with another food blogger friend who was invited to Hiatus over the weekend and was impressed by its novel concept. They are super accommodating of intolerances and are turning the traditional way of thinking about food around- their focus is predominantly on the vegetables with meat as the sidekick. Not really my thing but it’s good to see something different. I applaud the idea of zero waste and we were told they use all the veggie tops to make their house made seasoning.

Open a mere 2 months I observed they were quite bustling of a Sunday afternoon as I sipped my delicious chai. I still managed to order the most meat heavy dish on the menu and my dining companion chose the beetroot blushed fish. Skirt steak with beer bread- I didn’t really know what to expect but it was rather delicious. I quite enjoyed the yummy bread and it worked nicely with a soft boiled egg. It was also very pretty on the plate.

We shared the pumpkin hotcakes for dessert which had a lovely fragrant aroma. I found the ginger custard it was served with a little grainy and wasn’t too sure about the addition of dill but I appreciated the creativity and frankly the balls to have a menu devoid of smashed avo and just really concentrate on more unique flavour profiles and interesting ingredients. A real foodies cafe for those who want something special

A lovely day to be outdoors today. My friend and I went to Kew for errands and I found Hiatus on Zomato Gold, so we decided to drop by for some lunch.

🔆LOCATION🔆

Hiatus Cafe is situated on the busy High Street right at the intersection of Studley Park Road, Princess Street and Power Street at the famous Kew Junction.
Parking was a breeze as there is spacious open car park at the back and nearby Woolies car park as well.  As we had a free afternoon, we took the opportunity to wander around the shops afterwards.

From the car park we took the footpath parallel to Princess Street to walk around to High Street where the cafe is. Upon walking inside, there was nice green plants a

The paintings on the wall were fun and had a retro feel to it. Each table had cute mini vase with fresh flowers.  There is a large sky light which gave the whole cafe alot of natural light and brightness.  The cafe set up is simple but relaxing. I didnt realise until after I ordered, that there was a door leading to the back, I had a walk through and discovered there is a really nice outdoort deck area with lots of green plants in pots aligned up on the wall, so nice!  I also discovered (silly us) that the back is actually where the car park is! So basically you can walk from the car park and enter from the back of the cafe which is nice! A nice area when the weather is warm to sit outside to enjoy meals.

🔆SERVICE🔆

Staff here was friendly and helpful.  Food arrived very fast, we were surprised and the food presentation was nice.

🔆MENU/PRICE🔆

There is so many nice things on the menu we had a hard time deciding. My friend changed her mind twice when the waiter came to take our order and I was indecisive on 2 dishes! In the end we ordered:

Big Breakfast, $24.00
(Eggs your way, mushrooms, avocado, rosti, tomatoes, bacon, sourdough bread)

Hiatus Benedict, $19.00
(Choice of bacon or salmon, poached eggs, avocado, potato rosti, burnt butter hollandaise sauce)

🔆VERDICT🔆

My Big Breakfast was definitely big! Wow so generous the serving. The eggs was cooked perfectly and soo much of it! The cherry tomatoes was sooo yummy, lightly baked and cooked through, it was sweet and juicy. Only minor gripe was the avocado was not that fresh.

My friend selected the salmon for her benedict. She really loved the potato rosti it was cripsy and fluffly light in the centre. The burnt butter hollandaise sauce complemented so well she finished her dish so fast! A good sign of a nice meal for sure!

Would definitely return to try the Buttermilk Pancakes and Nourish Bowl.

My friend wants to return to try Wild Mushroom Gnocchi.

The pork cassoulet is quite nice, tast like a bake egg fish but with well balanced flavours and i find it not overly strong. The gnocchi is also nice and creamy, but towards the end it became too creamy to finish... Coffee was ok, the foam was not very fluffy for a cappuccino.
