Review Base Camp Espresso - Kew

Laurence Williams (Cooliew)
This cafe is a beautiful, out-of-the-way spot to relax in Kew. At first sip the coffee tasted slightly burnt but upon further sipping I have decided it's just a dark blend, not my preference, but good nonetheless. The decor isn't outstanding and the food selection is a little limited, but the addition of a soup is very welcome on a chilly autumn day.

Consistently the best coffee in Kew. I have been in there practically every day for the past few months while on parental leave. Great espresso, long blacks or whatever takes your fancy. They also have a small but quality selection of pastries, cupcakes and cheesy toast concoctions (e.g. Croque Monsieur). Check it out!

A bit more attention to the safe handling of food preparation would be great! Noticed that the staff handle money and touch the food without any gloves on. Wont't be going there again Ordered a juice which should have mint in it but they had run out! Safeway close by to pick up another bunch of mint. Poor

Undoubtedly the best coffee in Kew, ask for their single origin long black.

Very good coffee is served and the owner is very nice every time I go.

The coffee is good but the food selection is limited.

The perfect little spot to escape the cold winter mornings! Always greeted with a friendly face and a well made coffee. Food is equally delicious; their poached eggs with smashed avo and feta is a favorite

I've always gravitated towards anything that draws on travel or adventured-related themes. However the opportunities to check the place out has eluded me many, many times, until recently. As many of my fellow foodies have already commented on the size, it's unique car park-facing frontage and the pulled pork burger, I'll skip all that.

Being a cafe, credit needs to be given, albeit mentioned many times already, the coffee is decent. It's fresh. This place just serves good, unpretentious coffee. I happened to be sitting facing the window overlooking Fenton Way. Interestingly it felt more like a summit camp as the road slopes down and you can catch a glimpse of the city skyline from a distance. Several times my mind just drifted away in between conversations, thinking of the next travel adventure. Thank you Base Camp Espresso. You just made my day. I'll most certainly be back.

This place is very local with plenty of natural light and its close to parking. Staff here are very friendly. I had a chai latte and the pulled pork burger. The latte was beautifully done, the pulled pork was tasty. I think if they change their potato thin sliced chips to potato wedges, that would make a big difference to the meal. Will come back again.

Cute venue. Good coffee & eats which were generous & tasty. Friendly staff. Just right for a relax. Good on them! On the 'to re-visit' list!!

Yummy moka and vegemite and butter toast to start off a cold winter day! Simple but delicious. The cafe is on the small side (size wise) but the staff are lovely and accommodating.
Coffee And Food
Small little cafe that don't have much offer but if they want to improve there are room for it. Slayer coffee machine is doing great for espresso. Had a long black taste was great 👌

Cool little place in an off-the-main-drag location.

There was one not pre-made meal on the menu and that was the pulled pork burger. It sounded amazing. Came out on a small bun, nothing else with the pork besides a small amount of apple and fennel "slaw" and some potato chips. Needless to say it was not worth the $14 I paid.

The only upside was the coffee.

Love the area of this place as it is close to where I live and work. Coffee is good but a few times it wasnt that good! Needs some consistency!

Obsecured, Hidden but good and the bonus is next to a 2 hour free car park, becoming rare in Kew.

The City Council way of supporting small businesses.

Correct me if I'm wrong, have they ever had a permanent Barista since opening?
Good coffee, however on a few occasions inconsistent.

Small in size, limited in Menu, don't pick the peak hour if you want to sit down and enjoy it for a longer time.

Usually I feel a little awkward when I come to a hip cafe. This place makes you feel really welcome which is a nice change. Good coffee and a great positive attitude from staff.

Pretty nice staff, the hot chocolate was really good served in a bonne maman jar. You can sit outside our inside, the price is reasonable, good experience.

Best coffee in Kew. We come here regularly and think it's the best coffee in Kew - the service is fast and friendly and whether it's a milky soy flat white, a long black or a short mac (our order varies) the Supreme Coffee blend works every time in the hands of the expert guys behind the coffee machine. Food is simple and tasty (try the cupcakes for something different).

Cool laid back vibe, good coffee, staff friendly with a lot of personality. Refreshingly simple and straight to the point with no annoying hipster-pretense. We'll be back.

Funky place, great coffee and cool dude making the coffee. This place is great and will only get better with time. It is what its name suggests, a coffee shop with a few eats thrown in. Get there and become a local!

Their baristas serve up high-end espresso blends and single origins using their A class Slayer machine. On your first visit, you will feel like a true local – the service is super friendly.
