Review Albee's Kitchen - Kingsford

Amy Chow
Large selection of Malaysian food and very generous portions. Would highly recommend sharing one dish between two people as it’s a lot of food! Or else could always take it home haha My favourites include curry chicken with roti, crispy noodles in egg sauce, curry puff but most stuff I have had there is good!

Albee’s kitchen is a single, all-in-one institution I dare say, that normally represents at least 20 individual restaurants and stalls in Malaysia. Crave laksa? Ban mee? Nasi lemak? Wonton mee? Fried rice? Fried beehun? Kuih muih? Chicken rice? Chilli ban mee? All the Malaysian dishes that you can name you will most likely find it here in Albee. 11/10 would recommend this place to anyone.

Dec21: Finally got to dine in. The food was good but the service was disorganised, a long gap between dishes and they forgot about the rice. They were full though. Hence probably why. Sep21:Good curry puffs $3.50 each. A good range to choose from.

Yummy food but... Super small and crowded. Staff are okay. Food sizes are small. Loud place. Not table service.

Well priced, authentic food with high quality ingredients. Reminded us of being in Singapore

The hygiene of this restaurant is disappointing, cutleries are so oily and there are black debris in drinking water . Kon lo mee with curry was good but the chicken soup was super salty, can’t even drink it.
Supra Chan
Pretty authentic but the management should improve the renovation and fit out.

Simple no frills diner restaurant. We ordered Hainan chicken rice which was boneless and delicious. Also curry chicken rice, traditional Malaysian curry (thin) medium spice level, also delicious. Chicken wings (deep fried) as a side - juicy but not salty. Wouldn't order again. Great restaurant for tasty authentic Malaysian food at a reasonable price.

One of the restaurants that I most regularly frequent. It has very consistent quality with good value. A big fan of their curry puffs and noodles. Not a restaurant that will really blow you away but great value with large portions and good service.

Albee’s Kitchen is a Malaysian restaurant in Kingsford. Situated close to the UNSW campus, I’m told that it was a very popular spot for students prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. I was a big fan of the Kuching Style Claypot Noodles ($14-$15). The soup was perfect and the noodles an excellent texture. This is one dish that I would have again and again.

I want to rate 4.5 if I could. I often come to this restaurant if I was to dine at Kingsford. This place is the most generous in portion, good in taste at most times and good value. Even their plain rice is very excellent, noodles and clay pots are awesome. Fried food is ok they could be better in my opinion. The hainan chicken is just ok not the best sometimes is great sometimes just ok. The Chinese spinach is nice but sometimes are smaller portion. But when it’s on good portion it’s satisfying. The laksa is fine. Their pepper pig stomach (or intestines?) was very good. Their randeng beef sometimes was superb sometimes was terrible so better not risk it. Their prawn mei was interesting. Overall, this restaurant is the one I constantly go to as I don’t want to be disappointed by going to other restaurants as they don’t perform well and rip you off with small portions. This restaurant doesn’t do that. Overall this restaurant keeps in constant performance in excellency. I absolutely recommend noodles and clay pots, then fried rice! Staff is very friendly especially the Asian young boy. He is smart, prompt, friendly and attentive.

Very delicious and big portion at an affordable price
Come here all the time

Best malaysian restaurant ive tried in Australia. Portion is much bigger than i expected.

One of the best laksa i’ve ever had. No wonder this place is really famous, they even open another branch in Campsie. The laksa broth was tasty, full of spices but not overpowering. Big portion as well, it could be eaten 2 people. Hubby had lunch set, fried rice and satay, for me taste average.

Longing Malay/Singapore meals.

Decent price and portion.
taste wise ok.

2nd time here for lunch and tried different dishes.

the chicken rice is not quite original chicken rice.
their chilli was the star of the dish 🤣🤣

Always large servings so be prepared for a fulfilling meal! I've been here many times for lunches and dinners, I'd recommend going with friends so you can get a few dishes to share.

One of my favourite dishes is the cereal fried chicken the cereal is sweet and contrasts nicely with the salty fried chicken.

Super friendly service, made you feel like they have known you for a hundred years. Food done authentically just like in Malaysia. We ordered the curry puff, super crispy skin, beautiful fillings with boiled egg. Ordered Kuching clay pot noodles, absolutely delicious, crispy noodles in a flavoursome broth. Will be back for sure.
Literallyondiet
This place is so good, that I've been there three times in under a month. #literallyondiet we always choose different meals each time we come. Cheap eats with big portion! But one thing that we ordered same everytime is their curry puffs😋 $3 each you get a huge curry puffs ever !!!
Stinki Sinki
Wonderful Malaysian food despite the price. They served great three layered milk tea and char quey teow. I tried their kuih several times as they tasted so good even though they were pretty pricey to me.
Aimee.
Definitely a restaurant with lots of food and drinks to choose from. Authentic, fresh and fast. We ordered the chicken laksa (huge portion BTW) which was full of flavour and came with plenty of chicken and tofu pieces. The Hainan chicken meal set was only $10. Overall great place with huge portions but ambience isn’t the best as it’s a very communal restaurant (shared tables and cutlery pots etc).

Was left waiting for a table as it was cleaned around us for 5 minutes. Chair was covered in laksa, food came out cold and meals were sent out at random times. My noodle dish tasted burnt.

Two staff members yelling at each other across the restaurant for the majority of our time. Go elsewhere.

I think this restaurant is great value for money. Big portions for cheapo prices. In saying that, my chair had food on it and my dish came out ice cold. Service was terrible, having a domestic amongst each other and no chance of getting a host even if you flail your arms. Might come back and redo the review will see how my guts go first.
Gideon Setyawan
All of the food was decent. I ordered Nasi Lemak with extra Pandan Chicken and it tastes good. The rice was heaps but the meat wasn’t that much (especially if you don’t order any extra meat like Pandan Chicken) Portion was generous. Overall might come back sometimes later to try other menu.

Disappointing Albeys

When I think of Albee's, I think of comfort cheap food but this time Albee's disappoint me. The menu changes and the food was ok but not that great.

I bought the pork chops special, it was new in the menu and I was excited. It took a while till the food was served. Around 35 minutes and when I received it, it comes in peices. The presentation is okay but the flavour wasn't good. I honestly think mayonnaise and pork chops don't go well together.

(To be continued)

Very small inside but staff are nice. Decor is a bit distracting. Food is alright, pretty cheap. The place was pretty clean as well, but not a fan of the food so I wouldn't come back.

Always love going to albees for a cheap big meal. Food is always delicious, the service is quick and the atmosphere is cosy. Definately a favourite for me!

I oedered Nasi Goreng,I just tried one meal. Staffs were friendly but my meal was too salty , over seasoned . So I berely had 3or 4 spoon of my meal and felt sorry because portion was pretty generous.

In the busy strip of Kingsford, Albee’s kitchen is a reasonable priced restaurant with a great variety in their menu. We ordered some classic favourites such as the hainanese chicken with chicken rice, curry chicken and Nasi lemak. They were all nice enough and decent sized servings. Great for nights when we are after a casual meal.

Can't believe i got to come back 2 years after graduating from Uni! I loved this place so much when i was a student, many good memories and full belly :)

We started with curry puff. I ordered a Laksa as usual, friend got loh mee and clay pot noodles.
Not much has changed, price is still cheap, portion is still big, place is still crowded and food is very delicious!
The curry puff is very yummy, and quite spicy.
The noodles are always cooked to perfection and the flavours seems to be quite authentic (i assume so as it seems many Malaysians frequent this restaurant)

I will definitely come back whenever i'm in the neighbourhood!

Plenty of Malaysian classic dishes to be found here including the Hainanese Chicken Rice ($10.50 takeaway). Tasty and tender chicken served with plenty of rice and bean sprouts. Love the pickled green chilli for some extra heat. Lots of seating inside for dine in at this very popular restaurant. The chicken rice has become a favourite for my kids as well thanks to my dad introducing it to them when he looks after them.
Lily
My go to place when I crave for close to authentic Malaysian dishes. Very generous portions of rice or noodles, my favourite is their pan mee, Assam laksa and fried bee hoon with belachan. Their Nasi lemak, chicken rice and fish head noodles are pretty good too! Also must have from Albee’s is their super sized curry puff! Perfect for snacks or party food! They need to work on their customer service though, however for the price and the quality of the food, I am willing to accept subpar service.
HungryBabesSugarApe
Still one of the better Malaysian restaurants in the fine city of Sydney. Good value for money, what with the surrounding suburb filled with uni students. Always packed even when they have to compete with Ayam Goreng 99 few doors down.
Things we have tried and let loved:
- Char Koay Teow
- Kolo Mein/ Noodle
- Pork Tripe pepper soup
- Loh mee
- Loh bak
- Fish head bee hoon/ vermicelli soup
- Mee Goreng / Friend Noodle
- Yong Tau Foo
Do your belly a favour, don’t come in half full!
Albee's kitchen Kingsford.

Used to come here frequently. Very happy with the good and service.
However, noticed they have changed to using disposable water bottles to serve as drinking water for every table.
They no longer use reusable bottles and fill up their own water.

This is very environmentally unfriendly !!!!

And it is a shame if doing this was to just make staff work more efficiently so they don't have to refill bottles or need to clean them.
Justin Woo
I tried the Chow Kwai Teow, and it is really quite a cultural mix. There was no meat except for the preserved sausage meat but overall it is very tasty and the plate is quite big so enough to feed a person.

I love the wide variety of food available and the service is good.

Will come again soon!

Food is great but inconsistent and can be oily. My favorite menu here is Nam yu pork. The service is really quick and quite clean comared to other chinese restaurant nearby
MealzxD
Came here on a quiet afternoon and ordered the Sambal Belacan Combination Bihun Goreng. Menu seems to have a nice variety and food came quite fast. My noodles were okay and had the wok flavour. Personally I think it needed more seasoning to enhance it. Even my chicken pieces were very plain. That being said, added some table sambal which gave it a kick of spice which was nice :) Also got the herbal jelly drink, and yeah I probably should have expected it but it was kind of a rip off. The glass wasn't huge, and once ice cubes go in, not much of it is left for the drink haha

Located at two shops away from the legendary Ayam Goreng 99, Albee's second restaurant on Anzac Parade in Kingsford offers a variety of affordable and great value Malaysian food. The interior of the restaurant was simple and decorated with giant posters of their food. However, a little more attention on hygiene will be better as it is awkward for diners to see slippery floors and dirty utensils next to the drinks bars.

For any homesick Malaysians or Singaporeans who expect the finest and most authentic food at Albee's, you may be extremely disappointed. I ordered a bowl of kolo mee with loh bak (their definition of loh bak was a five-spiced pork roll rather than braised pork). The egg noodles were springy but both the sauce and noodles lacked the fragrance and flavour of authentic braised pork.

The butter cereal king prawns were another huge disappointment. First of all, the chef used neither fresh king nor tiger prawns but ordinary, stale prawns which were mushy and stuck to its shell. I hope restaurants do know that the texture of crustaceans and prawns changed dramatically within 24 hours and completely transformed within 3 days. I am sure the prawns were not fresh looking at the shrimp head. Second, the butter cereal could be improved by mixing sugar, turmeric, chilli, curry leaves and other spices to improve on the one-dimension buttery flavour. 😑😑

This place always has the best value for money, large portions and decent taste. If you suffer from chronic hunger like me and find yourself in Kingsford then this is the place to go!

Aside from size and taste, the menu offers a huge variety of Malaysian dishes and they do the traditional ones like Baku Teh, Nasi Lemak pretty well.

The staff however are sometimes quite pushy and too passive.
Eddy Kurniawan Tjiu
Friendly place and tastiest range of foods. For uni student or tight pocket, this the right spot for your hunger games. Warning you, the size is monstrous.
Justin C
This place has extremely terrible service. Please make sure you clarify 10 times with the waiter that they have got the right order. Our waiter took the wrong orders down and when the food came , we were asked to accept it because once the food is made they don't allow cancellations. In this case, they were at fault not us.
Natnatchoo
The service is really bad here. They served something we didn't order and told us that it's been made so they can't cancel it and that we need to take it and pay for it. The guy who took our order then came around to blame us again for ordering the wrong thing.
Ridiculous .
Foodilicious
I have always enjoy the food here. The nasi goreng kampong is one of my favourite. The portion is big which is good and I love the taste. Do not forget to try the curry puff which I really like. The place is not really big and can get a little crowded. Service is decent.
Hungrysydneysiders
Good selection of Malaysian cuisine on the menu. We went in for lunch and tried the Hainanese Laksa and the Char Kway Teow. Great prices and huge Portions, however we did think the flavours for both dishes could do with a bit more spice. Fast service and friendly staff.
Ben
Very filling!! We accidentally over-ordered too many dishes of 5 for two ppl...
Love the deep fried chickens..
The water spinach/ stirs fried noodle and laksa were huge serve.
I should take my whole family. Lol

Located in Kingsford, Albee's Kitchen provides a large range of tasty Malaysian cruisine at very reasonable prices. In particular, their eggplant and mince and also pandan chicken were really good. But overall quality was good. Their watermelon lychee drink was huge!
Johnny Pan
A very authentic Malaysian restaurant near UNSW. The food was well flavoured and generous in portion size. There was a large selection of drinks on the menu and the watermelon lychee juice was massive. The downside was the mains came before the starters and they also forgot to bring one of the starters.

I love Albee's. There's not much that can go wrong with cheap, generous and delicious Malaysian Chinese food. Combination char ho fun, chicken curry and Hainanese chicken rice are our favourite. The menu is so extensive I could eat at Albee's every day and I won't be bored for a long time.
Foodie Mookie
Our Malaysian friends recommended we try Albee's in Kingsford so we all went for a Sunday lunch recently. It is casual dining with all the effort placed on the food which is excellent. I recommend the house combination Char Yuan Yang (rice vermicelli and flat noodle) and the Pork Tripe Pepper Soup. The food is so delicious, we ordered more to take home for dinner. If you are not too full, try a plate of their desserts too. Yum!

Alvee's Kitchen offered authentic Malaysian cuisine. Today we ordered Psndan Chicken and Lor Bsk for Entrée. Char Kuay Teaw, Har Mee and Nasi Lemak eith Rendang. We also take away Hainan chicken tice.

The food came out reasonably quick and the portion is quite big.

For Entree the winner is Pandan Chicken, well marinated semi crispy chicken is just perfect. For the mains Hainan Chicken Rice tops the list. Tender juicy chicken plus succulent chicken rice makes it one of the best in Sydney. Char Kuay Teaw is also very nice but has tried better one elsewhere.

Despite having good tolerance in spicy food their Har Mee is barely enjoyable. The soup is also lacking the punchy prawn flavour.

Their nasi Lemak is not the dish we would order again. with the exception of the Beef Rendsng everything is too dry and lack of flavour..

Noticed their curry puff is very popular. May order it next time.

Bottom line : Good food. Good service. Good Value

Today I paid a visit to this restaurant with colleagues from work and was informed that this place serves authentic Malaysian cuisine. The restaurant is clean with friendly staff. They have an extensive menu that is pretty cheap, making this place ideal for our Friday lunch option. They have an array of drink options and I will be back to sample more of these. For lunch I go the nasi lemak lunch set, with the usual ingredients being coconut rice, roasted peanuts, fried anchovies, sambal and I chose for it to be accompanied by the beef rendang. A simple lunch set with great flavours and textures the soft fluffy coconut rice with the crunch and satiness of the anchovies and peanuts. The beef rendang was tender and has great flavour. I also had the curry puff which had crisp outer pastry, was filled with a boiled egg, vegetables and spice. The curry puff was also very tasty. There were so many great looking drinks on the menu, on the advice of my workmates I ordered the iced cendol. Like my lunch set this drink had many textures, the jelly, the shaved ice, sweet palm sugar and conensed milk. The drink was sweet and refreshing, a great drink to go with my meal. My group also ordered the hainan chicken set and the char ho fun a combinalion rice noodle dish with a great name. Both of the meals looked great, I can say I had a little food envy over the char ho fun. This place is very generous with its portions and is a great option for a cheap meal.

The vege and egg curry puffs are AMAZING! I'm already planning my next trip back to Albee's just to eat those again. We ordered a hainanese chicken laksa and prawn noodle soup and a side of achar. The soups were both flavourful, packed full of deliciousness and huge servings that we struggled to finish. The food at Albee's is fantastic value for money - our two entrees plus soups came to $35.
Fattyyy
Huge portions and solid flavours. Have heard disappointing things of this Albee's compared to their original in the suburbs, though I feel it's still quite good. Value for money is definitely had here - try the vermicelli and flat rice noodle dishes and you can't go wrong. It's typical of Kingsford though with the internal not being the best, and a strong likelihood of sharing a table with others when it's busy.
Kelvin
This is one of our friend's favourite that we have met them up at least 3 times here. The food here are quite nice compare to many other Malaysian food restaurants. However, their dessert doesn't wow us as we had better ones before. Bear in mind the portions are quite large so don't order extras till u seen your food.
Jade Buys Lemons
Went to Albee's Kitchen, very hungry and in the mood for Malaysian food. The restaurant slightly blends in with many of the other Asian restaurants on this strip, especially with the long line of customers outside, trying to get in to Ayam Goreng 99 which is just a couple shops down.

My boyfriend and I were starving so we ordered one roll of the Lor Bak/Ngoh Hiang, Chilli Paste Tofu, Hae Mee and Loh Mee. We also ordered a Cendol and Michael Jackson (Grass Jelly and Soya Milk) for drinks.

When the food came out, the serving sizes were massive! We were hungry, but we definitely had over ordered. All the food was really good, particularly the Ngoh Hiang, Hae Mee and Cendol. The Loh Mee was also very good, but tasted a little different to the ones we eat in Singapore and Malaysia. The soup/sauce base tasted different, it was full of pork lard which was sooo tasty, and was still very tasty and enjoyable.

I'm not sure why other reviewers are complaining so much about service, this isn't a fine dining restaurant. What you pay is what you get in the shop, simple service that seemed efficient enough.

I had my eyes on the Karipap and Hainan Chicken Rice but couldn't fit any more food in, so we'll definitely be back for more!

The bill ended up being $50. For what we ordered, it was definitely a decent price for Sydney restaurants and we will be back, hungry for those Karipap and a good Malaysian food feed!
Mark Evans
I've visited here for both lunch and dinner, both times for the laksa. The it remeniscent of Khao Soi found in Chiang Mai, Thailand.. Quite thick and very flavoursome - way beyond the average laksa... My only real complaint is that there is no smaller portions available! Prices are very reasonable considering portion sizes but sharing with a friend is recommended!
Those Who Love To Eat
Came here with the family for a Christmas dinner. While it's no fine dining, the portions are massive, and tasty. Not just large portions. For 5 of us, it cost around $20 per head, which is really good value. We even had some food to doggy bag which isn't really in the spirit of Christmas, but hey! Waste not want not. It's Christmas, it's excusable. Plus, I'd hate to see good food go to waste, a euphemism for: worthy of eating the next day. The interior is very basic, just like it's service. You don't come to a place like this to be waited on. It's a place where you come to share a meal, make a mess, and then leave. If you're looking for cheap eat and are in the neighborhood? This place is worth a visit but not to make an excursion out of.
MVN
I always have a soft spot for Malaysian restaurants. This is no exception. We had honey lemon tea and salted plum drinks which were very sweet. We ordered the fish soup and the hainan chicken. The chicken was average. It was moist and portion size was decent. The sour fish soup was massive and came with so much fish and tofu. For around $13 it was good value for money.
Nora Ng–Na
All in all, not a bad restaurant but the service is appalling, with rude service from some of the staff and not as bad service from other staff. The food is acceptably priced if but slightly expensive and of a reasonable calibre. Sadly, our only complaint is that Albee's lacks more of the Muslim Malaysian (mamak) cuisine, such as roti.

We would recommend going to Albee's if you're in the area and want Malaysian (which tastes and smells great) but don't really care too much about service or ambience.
Joanne
I've been disappointed by Albee's every-time I take-away or dine in. The food is not authentic and they were not tasty at all. I have no idea why my friends say it is good. I have tried their asam laksa, curry laksa, fried kway teow and sambal lo shu fan. There wasn't any 'wok hei' flavour in their noodles that I'm accustomed to in authentic Malaysian cooking. I did have a taste of the Loh mee from my friend's bowl and it tasted quite okay. When I dined in to have their laksa, the dish tasted bland and 'burnt', there wasn't enough of the laksa flavour. I asked for a new bowl and they gave me one. Was better as it did not have the burnt flavour but still lacked the solid laksa flavour. The only dish I like that I have tried so far is their curry puff, even though it isn't similar to the ones you get back in Malaysia, that generous half of an egg just makes it better.
Coco & Vv, Food Experts
Came here for lunch, seeing that the restaurant wasn't too busy.
I had the Malay style taro cake. This was average. Nothing too special but was tasty.
The one thing i look forward to whenever i go to Albee's is their curry puffs. Absolutely delicious! Its nice and spicy and pretty filling.
The only thing i would say about this restaurant, is that it doesn't have a lunch menu so the pricing for dinner and lunch are the same.
Pollo_pesce_me
Stopped for late night snack around 930pm and they were almost closing but the staffs were still very friendly and served us well.
We ordered pandan chicken, Hainanese chicken, Chicken and pork roll and sambal squid with rice. They were all delicious and fresh. We left with a full doggy bag and price was very reasonable. All and all we had a pleasant dining experience. I would definitely come back and try more dishes next time.
Kevin Yong
A consistent favourite, even if the large sized curry puffs are creeping up in price! My recent drop in, savouring the rather generous serving of Har Mee, with good prawn stock and lots of ingredients. Some drinks had discounts for the wintery weather. Service was efficient and friendly as in the past.

Tucked in among all the other restuarants on the busy road is this hidden gem. The store does not scream come in and eat me.. especially not the store front of their decor... but let the food do the talking as that is where it shines… that or the amount of customers they always have inside. The food in this place is consistently good. My recommendation would be their Hainan Chicken.. its fantastic with the sauces they offer to pair with. Also try their herbal tea.. it's cheap and it's very refreshing with the food. The other thing I love is their karipap... it is eseentailly a large curry puff kinda with egg inside. I always just share this with my wife before the mains. The service here is as friendly as it can be when they get busy. A great place to get your fix of Malaysian food.

Albee's Kitchen is a Malaysian restaurant on Anzac Parade, Kingsford. This is one place where you can find authentic Malaysian cuisine. The setting of this place would be like your typical Chinese low price range restaurant - lots of tables cramped together, no table cloth etc. This place can get very busy especially during dinner time and really noisy as well. Be prepared to wait 5-10 minutes to get a table during busy hours.
Four Fifth On Food
My friend felt like having lunch at Albee's in Kingsford. We arrived there around 12, and got our seats pretty quickly. Felt rather hungry, we decided to order these dishes. Bakuteh ($17.80) All my friends always say this dish is meant for old people because of the herbs and spices. I actually kinda liked the smell of it. The broth didn't taste too heavy at all. A very warming dish. Curry puff ($2.50) This curry puff is the bomb; enough said! Curry chicken & potato hotpot ($15.80) The chicken meat was tender and the potatoes did a good job in thickening the curry soup. Sambal anchovy fried rice ($11) It wouldn't be a lunch without some carbs, that's why we ordered this fried rice. I liked the balance of the saltiness and spiciness in this dish. A must try, if you haven't! To summarise, Albee's Kitchen is a must-go place if you crave for some Malaysian food. The service is prompt; and portion wise, it's not that bad with the price we pay for. Do visit when it's not during rush hour (aro

Tucked amongst the stretch of lively eateries along Anzac parade the place has a high churn of customers. By 7.30pm the place was packed so you get seated wherever there’s room (prepare to suck in your stomach, squeeze between chairs and repeatedly mutter ‘excuse me, sorry,’). As frisky university students you may enjoy the high population density inside Albee’s, getting all cute and squishy with your neighbours. But watching the lady next to me suckle on the eyeball of a deep fried fish was a little bit scary – just one of those delicacies I’ll never come to appreciate. Nonetheless joining a table with 4 other diners midway through their meals gave me a preview of what looked tasty and what the regulars would recommend. The menu was long and varied, the best part was I could pick whatever I wanted wit

Great Curry puff and char kuey teow.. Need to explore more dishes in this restaurant :)

Do you ever think of food from home but it just isn’t the same? It really is tough to get food that is “just like home”. Cause even at home, there are places we do enjoy more than others. We don’t have to lower our standards, just got to set up new standards. Think of it as something that is something different. So here I am at Albee’s kitchen.
Ernest Chong
Curry fish served in hot pot with egg plants, okra and beancurd. If you haven't an assam or tamarind base curry, you got to. As you can imagine, there are so many different types of curry and for me, the best type is this which is slightly tangy and acidic. It cuts through the chilli, and goes well with the delicate flavour of the fish. The vegetables not only add colour and freshness, but also a contrast of textures. I can just have steam rice with the curry itself.
Take And Eat
Albee's Kitchen was quite busy when my friend and I arrived but we were lucky enough to get a seat. Most of the seats are shared tables, they don't have single table for pairs, so if you just have two people be prepared to share a table. We were lucky that we didn't have someone directly next to us, but before we were leaving we had someone sit directly next to us.

Albee’s outlet in Kingsford has decidedly more ambience than its dodgy Campsie counterpart, but haply the prices remain the same. Massive portions for the $9.50 to $11 Rice/Noodle mains meant one would get a really good feed and then some. It has a similarly extensive menu and it was good to note that some favourites weren’t on rotation here like they were in Campsie, which meant you could order them anyday of the week you patroned the restaurant.
Next Stop: Food
My first love in Malaysia: butter cereal king prawns. This was the highlight of my Malaysia trip a few years ago, oh and perhaps the Twin Towers and our resorts too but food-wise: this cereal dish was the serial killer of all. It captured my heart like no other even to this date. You can order this dish with/without shell, I know the lazy in you will opt without but trust my first Malay love- you would want this with the shell. The butter cereal is amazingly good that I can eat mouthfuls of it with boiled rice and still be content.
A Foodie's Joy
The first time I heard about Albee's Kitchen was a few years ago. Their famous curry puffs (or karipap) were part of a friend's contribution to a social gathering. To my delight I found a slice of boiled egg in the filling. I was pleasantly surprised at that. It is not often you find curry puffs made with a boiled egg as part of the filling. Ever since then, I was aware of this Malaysian restaurant but did not have an opportunity to check it out until now. The original restaurant is located in Campsie but a few months ago, they expanded their business with a new outlet in Kingsford. Our Malaysian lunch turned out to be a feast! Their menu is very extensive and it can be quite overwhelming reading through all the list of available dishes. We made a concerted effort to order dishes not easily available at other Malaysian restaurants. That turned out to be a good strategy!! Here goes! Curry puffs Photo from my take away serving Pandan chicken Kuching Style clay pot noodles Favourite dish!

Since the Malaysian food hype came around, I’ve heard about this place…they’ve got the one at Campsie, and now another one at Kingsford . The menu has quite alot of the traditional Malaysian food like the Bak Kut Teh, hainan chicken rice…however they have a more extensive variety of noodle soups that other Malaysian restaurants in Sydney don’t necessarily have, like the fish head noodle soup. Verdict: not the BEST BEST tasting bak kut teh, but still not bad..I’ve had worse…still has that traditional Chinese medicinal taste to it, which is good. The rest of the dishes were quite nice… If you want an extension Malaysian menu and try a few things out, I think this is a good place to start off with

The wide variety of choices in Chinese Malaysian and Straits Chinese street food and cuisine, first consumed in Campsie, is also now available in Albee's sister branch in the university precinct of Kingsford in greater Sydney. This signifies a widening of options in the Malaysian food scene in Sydney. Previously options were confined to the north-west and there was much lament when compared to what Melbournians had. In the past several months, the variety was made more available in Sydney CBD and now in southern suburbs. When is commercial Malaysian food coming to Wollongong and the Central Coast - that can be a brave question. Such cuisine can be construed around a five part meal, although any resident in and visitor to Malaysia knows that people there eat anytime around the clock. With Albee's, I can have an entree of chunky vegetarian curry puff (with both potato and sweet potato mush inside and that distinctive one half of a hard boiled egg). Another good starter is the good ol

Food is not the best, not very authentic Malaysian. I came here a few times but the food was always disappointing. Make things worse, the staff looks unhappy all the time, like zombies walking around ignoring customers. Haven't seen a smile on their faces. Rude at times. It's the worse!!!

Malaysian Cuisine. 1. food - Tasty, but expensive. Enjoyed pandan chicken, meehoon, Nestum/cereal prawns. Didn't like marmite pork (too salty) and eggplant cooked in claypot (too oily).
2. customer service - Ok. They forgot one of our orders, but apologetic about it.

WORST. DO NOT GO THERE. THEY OVERCHARGE YOU, VERY DIRTY, WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!. HORRIBLE. waitress was the worst I have ever seen in a restaurant. when cleaning up, a dirty trolley of left over food rolls up next to you as the waitress angrily with force throws plates and utensils into the trolley tray with loud clashes and bangs, clearly pretending customers are not sitting 30 cm away. Food was so average and looked dirty. when paying, they incorrectly billed us at a higher rate TWICE and even YELLED the total figure of the bill at my partner and I in a really annoyed tone when we said the figure was wrong, as if we couldn't hear her properly. Finally, when they admitted to overcharging us TWICE, whilst admittedly it was our fault for being 80 cents short, they angrily demanded that BOTH I had to stay at the restaurant despite my partner suggesting to leave his personal work bag with all his laptops and belongings there. The restaurant just did NOT know how to treat customers from the minute they walk in up until the very end. Would highly advise those who have never been there NOT to go there, it is absolutely not worth your time to visit. There are many other Malaysian restaurants that I have tried in the area that have the same food and a lot better customer service without repeatedly "accidentally" overcharging you. If the owners/manager is reading this, I would advise to reconsider hiring the larger-boned woman in a black shirt who is responsible for cleaning dishes and for charging our bill. Other customers also agreed with me as I left that the restaurant that they would never come back. (zero stars)

Food versus workers. Food is fairly good, however workers are rude and disrespectful. We were waiting for our food for close to an hours just because the work took our order without entering to the ordering system with her own negligence. When we found out not even a word of sorry received from her as if we (as customer) must accept it.

Five Strikes You're Out!. Strike 1: My main came out before our starters. We had to ask the waitress (who had terrible customer service), twice for them.
Strike 2: When the starters finally came out we were still waiting for our second main.
Strike 3: The nasi lemak (who we had to ask the same waitress for), came with a soft papadum and a half plain hard-boiled egg with no sauce.
Strike 4: The Ice coffee that I ordered was hot at the bottom and cold at the top. It was as though they poured hot coffee into the glass then realised that they stuffed up and added shaved ice on top.
Strike 5:And while eating our meal, the same waitress (with no customer service), decides to reach with her arm across me to grab the cutlery cylinder to fill it up. Why she couldn't go to the other tables that had no customers with cutlery cylinders clearly containing less cutlery items is baffling. Avoid this place at all cost.

My second home. I love this place. Food is homely and cheap... what else can I say.

TERRIBLE. We ordered the fried chicken with rice and it was RAW. I told them we can't eat raw chicken you get sick but they insisted it wss "cooked". Rude service. Obvious the waitresses aren't educated in the way they talk and treat you. Save yourself the trouble and AVOID ALBEEs KITCHEN

A favourite. I bloody love this place. Every time we go we over order because there's so much on the menu we want to try.

The ipoh chicken noodle soup is great , but laksa is king here for me. Buttered cereal chicken smells soooo good and tastes great. Curry puffs are awesome value for $2.50. We often go and order takeway -buy two dishes each and split them into four meals. The lamb curry hot pot is also yum.

Service is almost amusingly inconsistent but always quick and I will keep coming back regardless.

Super tasty!. You know a restaurant in Sydney is good by the queues waiting for it. Add to that the fact that all types of people go to Albee's -- old, young, families, students, etc., and you know you're somewhere legit!

They do a great job with their curry puff, lor bak, hainanese chicken, and fish head curry, although I felt like the pandan chicken lacked a little oomph. Washing down all the greasy and spicy food with a jug of herbal tea is critical!

Somewhat.... disappointing. Three of us hit up Albee's kitchen last night. Somewhat high expectations given how Albee's still is the busiest along Anzac Parade for cuisine of the Malaysian-genre. We ordered as many flagship dishes as humanly possible - the Curry Puffs (reasonable presentation - large roundish pastry, tasty curry-based filling, they should charge more and include a chunkier, meatier filling to make it awesome), Lor Bak (well seasoned but again, could have had a chunkier, meatier filling - it tasted over-processed), Pandan Chicken (these were quite lovely, aromatic chicken pieces that oddly were quite pink around the bone - cooked from frozen maybe? Nonetheless, the flavour did please the palate of my female dining companion, which was vital for the situation in Syria and world peace in general). Then came the Beef Rendang, a watery, microwaved-from-frozen-mess, resembling nothing like what was depicted in the menu. The Milky Pork Ribs had an unusual flavour, though not crave-worthy was rather pleasant. Petai beans with Squid in a Sambal-type sauce was acceptable - more spicy punch in the sauce would have hit a home-run and using a larger-calibre fresh squid would have been equally acceptable considering the price of the dish. The Fish of the Day was quoted at $28.80 for Large ($25.80 for Medium and $22.80 for Small) - we went with the Large, which really, wasn't too large at all. It makes me wonder how small Small would have been. Crisp and generously laced with a spicy, preserved soy bean paste, the fish was quite tasty but like its land-lubbing porcine counterpart, hardly crave-worthy. We could only conclude that Albee's suffers from pandering to the more-popular vote, thus dumbing down the fiercely spirited essence of what truly represents Malaysia. If there's a queue at Albee's, give Petaling Street or even Kreta Ayer a shot. They're just next door, and at this rate won't have to try too hard to give Albee's a run for their money.

Not as good as Campsie. Was so excited that Albee's opened a store in Kingsford.

Prices here are cheap, and pie-eating liberal voting white Australians need no longer fear as they now have a better chance to beg on the altar of the real Aussie pie: the giant, esteemed Albee's Kitchen curry puff.

They provide sambal on the tables - taking a nod from classic Indo joint Ayam Goreng 99 two doors down.

We had:
Mee Kolo - Authentic. The staemed Hainanese Chicken here is delicious.

Hor Fun - Disappointing and bland.

Teh Tarik - They don't know what they are doing. Not sweet or milky. We shouldn't have ordered it, we knew very well they wouldn't have clue but we thought we would give it a shot. Wrong to do so.

Word of caution: It's always a risk when trying non-Chinese based Malaysian food here.

No Mee Rebus on the menu here, that was disappointing.

I'll still be back to have the classics, but sticking to Chinese Foods, Curry Puffs, and Mee Goreng (heard it was good).

Terrible service, slow food. We came in hungry and expecting malaysian food the way we have it at home (in Malaysia). Left disappointed, overpriced for it's greasiness, lack of flavour, too much gluten, slllooowwww service, and rude waitresses. I wouldn't go back even if i was paid to. Sorry.
Ben 001
Only average food and not worth the wait or fuss. The campsie one is much better even though its dodgier.

Curry puff is amazing. Hainanese chicken rice is amazing. Beef rendang is amazing. About to try the laksa. If you want great Malaysian food that is reasonably priced, come here. Always full of Malaysian people so you know it must be authentic! Friendly staff too.

Rude waitress. The service here is terrible. The waitress walked away in the middle of taking our order to seat other customers and came back and very rudely said "Can you hurry up I very busy!"

Strange curry puff.. Their curry puff looks so nice but there's a big boiled egg inside! Never seen or eaten curry puff with whole boiled egg inside before. So spoil mood.
Their " 5 flower tea" ( Leong char ) was nice though. But very disappointed with curry puff lah.

OK Malaysian/Singaporean restaurant at Kingsford. Coming from Singapore, I was hoping to taste some delicious Malaysian/Singaporean food at Albee's. However, I was a little disappointed.

Curry puffs : pretty decent (weird that it has a whole boiled egg inside)
Char kway teow : little too dry
Salted Fish Pork Belly : it was a little burnt, wouldnt order it again

However, it was nice that we were given a bottle of sambal chilli.

Sinma restaurant which is about 100m from Albee serves better Malaysian/Singaporean food, I reckon.
