Review Crown Dragon Chinese Seafood Restaurant - Kogarah

My 3rd visit over a number of year's. Food is wonderful, fresh and hot. Service is above and beyond. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend going for Yum Cha. The picture is of the Duck being cut at table side for Duck pancakes. It's a great experience for the kid's to see. I think they enjoyed it more being done at the table. Well done with providing a Covid safe version of Yum Cha, seeing as the trolleys can't be done at the current time. Well done and will be back very soon.

Certainly not the best Chinese food I have tasted, but sure is the most expensive!!! A couple of the dishes were ok but the other couple were ordinary to say the least. That all would have been somewhat acceptable if it was reasonably priced, however I got the shock of my life with the bill at the end of the meal. There are no prices listed, at least not in English anyway, so I ended up paying at least double the price of what was only half the quality the meal should have been. My recommendation is to save yourself a lot of money and get a better quality meal elsewhere. I will certainly never return there.

Worst yum cha place ever. Food is tasteless with limited options. We ordered white beef tripe and brown beef tripe, both were not cooked properly, couldn’t chew through. White beef tripe was cold inside. Worst when we came to pay the bill. We got charge for over $40 for 6 pieces of pucking duck and only found out it’s $38 for half duck come with 6 pieces. We argued we shouldn’t be charged more for the same serve of food. The manager was so rude pointing finger at us saying we need to pay more since we didn’t know how to place the order. Seriously, that is the way you serve your customer? Will never come back for either food or service.

I love this Chinese restaurant (which is in Kogarah) in the St George region. It is situated in St George’s league club ❤️ Simply check in using the NSW services so that you are COVID-19 safe ✅ To be honest, I have been to this restaurant a few times now (I have lost count) but this has got to be my favourite Chinese restaurant in Sydney hands down!!! The food was super fresh, scrumptious and amazing flavoursome goodness, how can I describe the food!! I loved every single bite!!! And OMG the crab claw was one of my favourites!! Super crunchy in the outside and very soft and fleshy inside, it melted in my mouth!!! So damn good!! But everything I ordered were amazing! The egg tarts were super crispy... Am I making you hungry yet??!! 🤤 And let’s talk about the customer service!! From the greeting at the door, to leading us to our dining table to looking after us, they have been nothing But exceptional!! They provide top service, they were friendly, funny, bubbly and just made us laughed the whole night... they looked after us until we left!! One waiter said I looked familiar haha, and then he also rubbed my brother-in-law’s belly like a Buddha belly for good luck hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 We drove to the restaurant (probably best to go by car or maybe bus) I am not sure how long the walk is from the train station! The restaurant was beautiful inside out, from gorgeous chandeliers outside the restaurant waiting from. Very clean, spacious, gorgeous interior and lovely ambiance (a bit of fine dining and casual feel to it) Happy customer always comes back for me! See u again soon 😆

Perfect for family gatherings. Located inside the St George League Club so there is plenty of parking.

The food are splendid, the manager recommend us the pipis clam and spicy crab with the bun. My dad couldn't stop taking about these 2 dishes and can't wait to go back. The other dishes are very delicious too! Unfortunately the food is so delicious we forgot to take pictures of the food.

Service is always excellent here. Price is a little on the exxy side but the food is very good. This used to be my favourite Yum-Cha but I feel like quality is dropping slightly.

Not traditional yum cha anymore, now you order off a card. Took 30 mins for the first one to come out, was still there an hour later and two of the 7 dishes we ordered still hadn’t come, so we left without getting the last two. For 5 dishes of dumplings and two cokes it was $68, used to go all the time, won’t ever again unfortunately

Best yum cha and Chinese restaurant in the area. If your looking for super tasty food without the heavy price tag and travel to the city this is your spot@

Consistent food quality & great hospitality. 😃

Highly recommend their curry, especially with mud crab. Every time we order it, it never fails to disappoint. The rich & aromatic curry sauce is prepared in a claypot, then added with fresh mud crab. When the crab is cooked, all the sweet crab juice will be combined with the curry sauce to add extra flavour. I can easily eat two bowls of rice with just the sauce itself. 😋 If you don’t want your hands getting messy, you can ask for Curry beef brisket. You get the same curry sauce with meltingly tender beef. 🙂

Pretty good yum cha is to be had here at the Crown Dragon. There's not that much variety in the dishes, however what they do is top standard.

Dinner
Had dinner here a few times and tonight is the worsr. Duck pancake is dry. Honey lemon chicken is really bad never has this version before. Chicken is like rubber and the aauce is very watery in a separate bowl. Prawn chips is stale. Dessert cookies also stale. Very disappointmenting. Not my preferred restaurant for cantonese food. Used to think this place was best in the area.

This place is clean, the japanese beef wasabi is good.

Always good for Yum Cha. Plenty of variety here and the good is always fresh. Don’t let fact that it is inside a leagues club turn you off, especially to non Dragons fans.

Dinner especially if you feel like Mud Crabs or lobster is as good as many ChinaTown big names. It feels definitely under appreciated here dining here a few times mid week with the restaurant half full. Don’t have to eat fancy as the standard meals that are non seafood are super. Beer and wines choices are limited as for most Chinese restaurants unfortunately.

Excellent dumplings. Peking duck rolls were a standout. Mango pudding was a lovely end to the meal.
Attentive service, above average. Loved the chilli sauce! Can't wait to go again.

Great service, good selection of Yum Cha and reasonably priced. It was a much more pleasant experience than the Yum Cha restaurant we went to in Chinatown, where the wait staff constantly ignored you.

This is possibly one of the best chinese restaurants we have been to for a very long time. I highly recommend their banquet set.

We had a small lobster and it was cooked to perfection. The fried rice, crispy chicken and wok fried prawns are a must!

We received good service and had a waiter assigned to our table.

We will be going back, this is a great place to have a huge chinese feast with family and friends.
This is a good place for yum cha or Chinese away from the usual suspected places like Chinatown or Hurstville nearby. Food is good & slightly anglosized but tasty & fresh. Yum cha is the best meal here with some unusual offerings & the sizes are a bit bigger then the typical yum cha dishes. Its not cheap but it is in a much more spacious & quieter environment, so a busy spot for families with children & prams.

Pleasantly surprised...

Nice ambience -- it was humming with locals at Sat midday. About 80% capacity. The place is a little bit smaller than the bigger yum cha places in the CBD but with plenty of room to move about.

Service was really top notch for a yum cha joint. You really don't expect much normally but Crown Dragon goes above & beyond. Promptly seated with tea arriving a few mins later. Didn't have to ask the usual three times for chilli sauce. Friendly and efficient service -- even changed over our plates when they got full. This was a massive thumbs up.

Food was a little hit & miss unfortunately -- e.g., deep fried chicken rugby ball things/sticky rice were delicious, ha gow/siu mai/pork ribs ok, beef rice rolls were pretty bad.

Would I come again? Yes if I'm not venturing into the city.

This restaurant is in the habit of adding many more items on your bill that you did not order. Happened to us and also to our friends several times.

The food is ok but the thought of getting ripped off puts us off. So will not be returning and definitely do not recommend supporting behaviour that is unethical and greedy.

I first posted about Crown Dragon Restaurant in 2009 - link here if anyone feels like a blast from the past. It is now about five years later and the restaurant is still there! That is great for Sydney's dining scene. With so many Chinese restaurants opening and closing on a regular basis, five years is a cause for celebration. Particularly for those restaurants located inside RSL/ Leagues clubs as they tend to be tucked away from the public eye.

Good local Chinese option. The yum cha is very popular. Staff are lovely, service is prompt and a lot of care and effort is out into presentation. Mixed veggies were the best dish.

With Chinese New Year around the corner, and the time of year when I check my Chinese horoscope for the year ahead for a bit of fun, where is the best place in Sydney to have Yum Cha? The Crown Dragon in Kogarah has the name sake of my Chinese horoscope... apparently an auspicious animal with strength, health, harmony and good fortune...always seeking to embark on a new project to feel truly alive, not to mention impatient, intolerant to imperfection … OK, let's leave it at that (for your 2015 Chinese Horoscopes , I've put up a post on what your sign has in store for you). I grew up in a family that loved going to different places for yum cha during the weekend. It’s the food yes but it’s also a communal gathering. Food is shared to enable conversations with family and friends. My palate has been accustomed now to taste what is a good, what is not. Let’s face it, yum cha in Sydney is pretty much a hit or miss affair. The Crown Dragon, however, is a place to write home about. How can you tell a good yum cha place from an average one? They’re pretty basic things and the Crown Dragon has the hallmarks of all these things ensuring they deliver a quality yum cha experience. #1 Freshly made food Everything from the dumplings to each strand of noodle is made from scratch by his 11 chefs in the kitchen. “There is no food kept overnight here.” Andrew Chan the owner and managing director tells me and takes me into the kitchen. When I first went to the Crown Dragon, I didn’t even have to go into the kitchen to know the taste of each prawn dumpling, dim sim and noodles were fresh.

A place I will definitely drop by again for its delicious dumplings.

No raffle ticket system here! Instead, you are issued with an electronic buzzer like you would receive when ordering pub food. Cool, huh?

Deep fried calamari that goes well with Tsingtao beer. In the background are spring rolls, a basket with steamed dumplings and prawn crackers. Andy was going to Hawaii, Rob was changing work roles and I had not seen Tez in so many months. There was a suggestion to go Chinese some where in a Sydney suburb and we did not venture too far beyond the Shire. We chose the home of the NRL Dragons team, an unassuming complex on the way to the Sydney airport and illustrative of many similar clubs dotted across the Australian residential landscape. There was the bar to gather in first, with already live singing by a couple on stage and the influx of Friday evening revellers on a nippy July start of the weekend. I enjoyed my Crown lager and soon we entered the den of the Crown Dragon upstairs. Seven of us booked at 7pm, but with no Kevin07 in sight. Beer glasses, tea cups and waiting bowls all at the commencement of the group dinner. There is much trendy innovation in Cantonese cooking back in t

The restaurant itself is fairly luxurious, slightly more expensive than other asian restaurants...but i can assure you it's GOOD.

A Pleaseant Experience in Excellent Surroundings. One of the best Chinese Resturants we've had the pleasure to vist.on a number of occasions. Extremely fine food, excellent ambiance and great service. Although a little on the expensive side the food and its presentation makes up for it! Certainly recommended.

When i went there last year the food was scrumptious, good chinese food. a little pricey but worth it. the interior looked fantastic and the service was great as well.
