Overall the food is pretty decent Cantonese taste, especially the steam fish and roasted goose (not duck). The least tasty dish was the stir fried milk. However if you are curious about how stir-fry milk tasted like, go ahead. In terms of ambience, not pleasant as a lot other Cantonese restaurants (sorry to say so), not recommended if you wish to have good conversation, as way too nosy and crowded.

Wow, who knew Kogarah could be home to such an authentic Shunde restaurant? And guys, please make a booking as this place is packed for dinner on the weekend.

Prices are like any other chinese restaurant and our bill came to $188 for 6 which was very reasonable considering we got really yummy dishes. Roast goose (quite legit but not as good as HK), fried milk (don't get this if you're lactose intolerant), XO pipies with handmade rice noodles (yum), fried chicken with fried rice served in a bamboo steamer (really good chicken) and stir fried kail lan with ginger (loads of breath of the wok!).

The downside:
1. the restaurant is small and we were seated near the door with a constant flurry of people coming in and out with a winter draft, it's quite annoying.
2. we were only given a dining time of 90 minutes even though we made a booking. it was enough time but for bigger groups, you'd feel rushed.
3. the dishes took ages and were staggered so we literally finished one dish before the next came out...
4. they were super busy so you really have to flag a waiter down for anything you might need but this was expected for us.

Would definitely come back and try some of the other dishes!

One the most promising specialty Chinese restaurants in Sydney to date. The dishes here are specific to the cuisine and well executed.

The Roast Goose is the main attraction and star of our night. It’s basically duck on steroids, in the proverbial good way and not; you know what I mean. Something that you must share with people you’d take a slap for...

You really don’t need another reason to come here. Seriously! Why are you kidding yourself?

Very neat & well presented restaurant specialising in Shunde cuisine. I cannot judge the authenticity of their special Shunde dishes as I’m not expertise in Shunde cuisine, however based on the deliciousness of their food, the way they prepared dace fish ball & fish cake was pretty good.

I highly recommend their signature dish, Roast goose. It had a beautiful crispy skin with succulent & juicy flavoursome meat. It was absolutely delicious and to die for. 🤤 I also liked their Stir fried Gai Lan with fish ball, the Gai Lan was tender & fish ball had a nice bite to it, same texture & taste to their fish cake, which had an extra lovely golden crust. 😋 I wasn’t into the deep fried milk in that dish, the coating was too thick & the milk was dry. Stir fried milk also wasn’t smooth & scrambled-egg like in texture as it should be. 😬

Came here with family based on a recommendation. Super friendly service with equally good Shunde style food. We ordered the stir fried milk with seafood combination with fish cake, stir fried stuffed lotus, fish fillet soup, crispy bbq duck, honey bbq pork, and of course their signature double layered milk custard pudding. Everything tasted absolutely amazing and I cannot give enough praise for the pudding. It was so silky and not too sweet; honestly the perfect dessert.

Okay Chinese restaurant. I don’t think they are very authentic Shunde style, taste like normal Chinese food to me. The food was above average, not bad but not fantastic either. However, the price was reasonable and the portion size was big. I don’t mind going back.

Food was very good. During lunch hour, they were just so busy. So it took a while until we were able to order. Ordering through their app is faster and easier, I think.

So good. The roast goose had impressively crispy skin. Ingredients were very fresh and portions larger than expected. Will be back again and again.

We’ve eaten at their three locations (Eastwood, Hurstville (was Kogarah) and consistently rate the roast goose highly. Decent sized bird, meaty and not as fatty as in HK :) We think their cantonese cuisine is delicious, light, and smooth. Anything in a soup stock is a winner. Service can be a bit slow though.

Went there of yumcha for lunch. A quiet busy restaurant. Made to order. Quick service. Authentic flavour, favourite is prawn dim sim and Durian puff. Reasonable price. They do surcharge on all the cards, preferably paid by cash.

Recently has moved from Kogarah to Hurstville, Taste of Shunde becomes bigger and better. They are now serving yum cha for lunch as well as dinner with their signature Roasted goose. They have expanded their menu with more unique dishes. 🙂 My yum cha experience was positive but comparing to Golden Sands in the area, Taste of Shunde has a lot to improve. 😗 I enjoyed their Beef tendon with handmade rice noodles, tender stewed beef brisket and beef tendon over handmade steamed rice noodles. Their Malay steamed sponge cake was surprisingly good, it reminded me of Tim Ho Wan’s signature Ma Lai Go. It was soft and fluffy, the sweetness was perfect. 😋 Roasted goose has always been my favourite dish to order for dinner. I also recommend Steamed bamboo prawns and Pressure cooked & stir fried eel. The prawns was cooked and served in a bamboo with zucchini and vermicelli and the pan fried eel was served in a decorated plate with a 3D bird painting. It was pleasing to both taste buds as well as the eyes. 😍
