finally found goose in sydney! and actually good ones. goose meat is a better texture than duck and of course bigger in size too! brought my dad there for his birthday and request they dont chop up the left goose leg , the way he likes it. the stir fried milk is my favorite. they even treat us chinese birthday buns for celebration!
Overall the food is pretty decent Cantonese taste, especially the steam fish and roasted goose (not duck). The least tasty dish was the stir fried milk. However if you are curious about how stir-fry milk tasted like, go ahead. In terms of ambience, not pleasant as a lot other Cantonese restaurants (sorry to say so), not recommended if you wish to have good conversation, as way too nosy and crowded.
Wow, who knew Kogarah could be home to such an authentic Shunde restaurant? And guys, please make a booking as this place is packed for dinner on the weekend.
Prices are like any other chinese restaurant and our bill came to $188 for 6 which was very reasonable considering we got really yummy dishes. Roast goose (quite legit but not as good as HK), fried milk (don't get this if you're lactose intolerant), XO pipies with handmade rice noodles (yum), fried chicken with fried rice served in a bamboo steamer (really good chicken) and stir fried kail lan with ginger (loads of breath of the wok!).
The downside:
1. the restaurant is small and we were seated near the door with a constant flurry of people coming in and out with a winter draft, it's quite annoying.
2. we were only given a dining time of 90 minutes even though we made a booking. it was enough time but for bigger groups, you'd feel rushed.
3. the dishes took ages and were staggered so we literally finished one dish before the next came out...
4. they were super busy so you really have to flag a waiter down for anything you might need but this was expected for us.
Would definitely come back and try some of the other dishes!
