Definitely the Best pies I have had so far and the vanilla slice is to die for
Believe the hype. This has been on my list for a while and we detoured to pass through Kyneton. There was a fair queue and I can see why. I had a cottage pie and a plain mince. The pastry was perfect and flaky with none of this soggy stuff. The insides were juicy and delicious with none of these congealed lumps you sometimes get. Would come back in a heartbeat!
OMG the veggie pastie was creamy and the pastry so flaky, DELICIOUS! Party meat pies were scrumptious. Hot chocolate and skinny cappuccino finished off our snack. Next time I’ll come here hungry so I can eat more 😂
PROS
Everything is delicious. Lots of seafood option pies. Vegetarian options and vegan too. Award winning pies are labelled but seriously they're all great. You know it's a good thing when you buy seconds and then buy a few extra for home 😁. Satay seafood is delicious but possibly a bit rich if I ate the whole thing. The creamy seafood was amazing as was the garlic prawn (extras of these for home). The suprise for me was the curried scallop and a wonderful surprise it was. Around $6 per pie. Traditional vanilla slice very good, great creamy custard consistency and very fresh at around $4 👍
CONS
Sweet items have labels but no prices. I'm not sure why but I like to be able to window shop With Prices. Not a con but room for improvement, the cheesy vegetable pie is a little subpar, makes you think of a supermarket pie with frozen veggie mix. I've had better vegetarian pies elsewhere.
FYI
I also sell them ready to take home and either freeze or cook up for dinner. Great seating area inside and friendly service.
Food: 4, Now I know why people drive almost 2 hrs for these pies. So good, creamy and flaky pies, literaly melt in your mouth. Definately recommend their mushroom and lobster pie($14++), A bit exp but worth a try, my kids love their meat pies (betwn $3+ to $8). Other favourites are curry Scallop. Garlic prawn and their slices.
Definitely one of australia's finest bakery!! Worth every km for the trip.their pies and vanilla slice are surely the best out there!! Deserve to win the award!
I gave been here on a number of occasions. They are rightly known for their award winning pies. With interesting choice of flavours. Cakes are good. Plus other food. Coffee is ok too.
I’ve been meaning to pay these guys a visit to try their coveted “Australia’s Best Pie” amongst their other award winning pastries for a while. We’d tried 8 different award winners and throughout they had all (obviously) been well executed. The biggest surprise was trying my first seafood pie, their Satay Seafood pie. This was amazing and potentially my overall favourite. I also really liked how they had cold pies to take home too, grabbed another 5 of their most recent award winner for the people back in Melbourne to try. 15 minutes at 180 was all it took and had a happy household :)
This bakery is popular for their pies which have won several awards. On a cold day a pie seemed perfect. We decided to try the Pepper pork and the curry scallop pies. The curry scallop had a slight sweet taste but was very tasty with plenty of sauce. The pepper pork was also delicious. Couldn't resist some vanilla slice to take with us. The custard filling was light but rich. Messy to eat but delicious.
Good little country bakery. They win awards for their pies year after year so thought we would make the drive to check them out.
It was packed with people lining up. A great variety of pies. We tried the curry pie and the caramelised pork pie. They were very nice. Ours were a little bit lukewarm for our liking.
Also tried the lime and pear tart or pie. Wonderful if you like citrus desserts. Vanilla slice was good too. If you go through Kyneton you must go there.
