EDIT: Very sad to see that you go straight to saying my review is not a valid source, Me and my wife are on holiday from NSW and are very into our Japanese cuisine, I tried to give you some honest feedback so that maybe you would take that on board and help improve your restaurant. Its no loss for me I will never be back there so do what you want with the feedback given . It’s a shame anyway. Food was terrible, definitely not fresh fish Probably the worst Japanese food I’ve experienced and overpriced . The gentleman at the counter was the only good thing he was very friendly .

Real review. Not targeted at all. I visited the restaurant last night. I have a receipt to prove it. The meal was awful. The sushi was not fresh at all. I ordered crumbed pork cutlets on rice and got a crumbed chicken schnitzel covered in egg (raw in the middle) on a mountain of rice. Egg wasn’t on the menu. My partner got the bento box, it wasn’t too bad except for the raw “fresh” fish. The ONLY good thing was the old gentleman behind the counter. Even the lady who took our overpriced payment whom we had no contact with was super sour. I apologise if it’s harsh, but absolutely honest review. Not targeted owner obviously can’t handle criticism or the truth.

The most beautiful sushi I have had with amazing customer service. Felt like we were back in Japan! We ordered the entree sized sushi platter, main sized sashimi platter, beef tataki and squid okonomyaki and everything couldn’t have been better! Thanks for a beautiful meal!

This is the first time I try this restaurant and the food is NOT FRESH! There are white dots on the every pice of tuna sashimi, and the boss said these are wasabi, which we didn't put it in wasabi yet... the ignorance attitude makes us feel uncomfortable. The tuna sushi looks fresh only because they put the side of the white dot down on the rice... I don't know if I should concern my health or not. I asked my friend who does a PhD in Aquaculture he said it looks like parasites, but he can not 100% sure because it has to be check in the lab. Don't have to mention that the broccoli in Udon is already rotten... I mean I may eat broccoli like this at home but it should not appear in a dish cost $26.

Not Japanese food. Ordered yakisoba and is nothing like the original dish!!! No authentic sauce, just oil and Chinese spice. Bento was ok. EDIT: a paying customer is not a valid source? this really shows where your priorities are as a restaurant...making excuses rather than fixing the cause... very disappointing to see

We found the sushi and sashimi to be fresh and tasty. The staff were really helpful and accommodating. The main plate for 2 was more than we could finish and beautifully presented. Well worth the extra $$$ to get amazing, authentic Japanese.

This has to be the best Japanese eatery in town. Their home made green tea ice cream is to die for, haven't had ice-cream like it, ever! Thank you so much for the wonderful service and fresh tasty food.

I choose this restaurant because it's 5 mins walk from my stays and maybe the only choice that I can make when I felt stomach pain. However, it's my first time that left nearly half of the sashimi plate at the end, which is for me is a sashimi lover. I sat on the corner where I can look through the whole process of the boss in sashimi cutting. Definitely, it's not nice cut and not that fresh enough.
The second dish I ordered was miso soup , it's was taste by average.
The main dish I ordered was deep fried pork cattle with rice. That was too Vietnamese style with over fired pork meat and too sweet sauce.
The place is small and full with local neighborhoods.

Service is bad. Waiter actually took forever to actually notice us on the corner even we arrived before other customers. I think that just kill the appetite after.

Went here a couple of nights ago, I was a bit worried when I read the other reviews, but they were more than a year old so I took the plunge... Was glad I did 😀.

Place was busy, even around 8pm on a Wednesday. I had the mini platter and it was excellent - very fresh and well cut sashimi and sushi. Friend of mine had the vegetable noodles and was also pleased. It's not super cheap, I would say reasonably priced. Service time was about right also.

My mate is an ice cream aficionado and she said the home made ice cream was great (green tea flavour).

I was a little surprised I could find such a decent sushi restaurant in Launceston. We had a great time and will be back.
Don't waste your time, the noodles were tasteless, the dumplings tasteless and while the seafood salad was nice it certainly was not worth $15.

Kai Zen. Good food and great service, definitely worth a visit. Make sure you try the tempura.

Total disappointment. First and last time! I usually never write food reviews online but this one was so bad (both food and service) that I hope that nobody ever goes there again. Other than sushi/sashimi, which we don't eat, most of the menu was deep fried (unhealthy), so our choice was very limited. We found out the owner was Vietnamese, which was not surprising that the food did not taste Japanese at all. The stir fried beef was too sweet and had too much cornstarch and the stir fried scallops and soba was lackluster Chinese-like stir fry. The miso soup was the only passable Japanese fare, which we believe was standard instant miso soup. We were wondering why the owner didn't just open an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Launceston, instead of leaving a poor taste in diners' mouths.

Very ordinary food & bad service at very high price, one of the worst restaurants in launceston

I loved this place!

Below average food at above average prices. Had the entree sushi at $14 and was massively disappointed. Also had the Goyza which were ok.

Pricy and disappointing. Another chineese owned japanese restaurant that was a big dissapointment. The katsudon was very stingy on the chicken (basically fried breadcrumbs) - not panko crumbs either. Ocoyomiyaki (octopus pancakes) were doughy and undercooked in the middle, octopus was not fresh and they needed seasoning. Tea was $4.50 a cup (for a teabag in a cup) and steamed rice was an extra $3.00. The tori teriyaki (chicken teriyaki) was actually quite good but still not worth the $20-something dollars (rice not included). Definitely not worth what we paid - better off going to one of the japanese takeaway franchises.
