Review Ragamuffin - Leichhardt

I don't think I can go back to eating regular packaged English muffins!! These are amazing. And they have a wonderful selection of different kinds - like when choosing your Subway sandwich bread 😅 But they are a bit pricier than I would pay for a cafĂ© sandwich...hence the 4 stars.

The best Blueberry-Cheesecake-Muffin I had in my life! The Coffee was well done and the Bagels (here called english muffins) are nice and unique in the local surroundings. Also very inviting, chill and cute flair in the cafĂ©. Only thing that might be improved is the door as it doesn’t really shut by itself, so it get a bit cold when someone enters and doesn’t close it behind them. I‘ll 100% come back to this place!

Specializes in muffins ! I had a bacon egg cheddar cheese muffin, called the fancy pants. I enjoyed it. Service was prompt.

Great cafe! Great staff! Fabulous coffee! Highly recommend the 'fancy pants' but also, all of the muffins are so delicious that you can't go wrong! Coffee is so so great! Super friendly barista - I'm now a regular!

Nice friendly welcome, fresh products - absolutely terrific bacon and egg roll, called fancy pants - try it!!

Really rude service by the lady behind the counter this morning. Disappointing because we were looking forward to the muffins, which look amazing. Being new to the area we could very well have been regulars, but unfortunately we will not be returning. Plenty of other friendly cafes a few steps away. What's more surprising is that I can see other reviewers having near identical experiences, yet nothing seems to have been done about the feedback.

Best muffins, highly recommend getting the fancy pants. Freshly baked muffins with many options to choose from. Friendly service, cute and cosy vibes.

Great muffins. Joyless staff. Always were from years ago (when it was more forgivable) and have continued in that misanthropic way. Serious question to the operators; if your job makes you miserable to the point of being annoyed with your customers, why are you doing it?

I live in Leichhardt this coffee shop is amazing. Great coffee, muffins sweet savour and english are to die for. The staff are so friendly and this difficult time have done a great job of keeping up the service with good social distancing. Last but not least if you find a better hot cross bun in Sydney I would be shocked.Homemade great value and the best I have ever seen. Please go and support them.
Cheers
Mat Richards

Came here for a weekend breakfast and although it was early they were doing a steady trade with lots of dine and take away guests in this small bakery situated on Norton Street. The menu is a pretty simple affair with savoury items listed on the blackboard above the register. The sweet muffins can be selected from the clear cabinet. Pick and choose what you want then make your payment. If dining in instead of the usual number you may get, you get a toy animal instead! There is seating inside and out.

We got some coffees which has a nice smooth taste to it. For our brekky we had the Fancy Pants Bacon & Egg Muffin. It had pancetta, ‘froached egg’, jarlsberg cheese, mayo, and awesome sauce (tasted a bit like bbq to me) and it’s served in your choice of savoury muffin. We had Plain and Roast Pumpkin. The taste of it was delicious and perfect for an early start. I was tempted by the sweet muffins on display and was drawn in by the Banoffee Pie Muffin. It had a caramel banana custard. Though nice there wasn’t as much of it in the muffin as I would’ve liked as ithe muffin itself was a tad dry. The choc frosting with butternut crumble was nice on top. Savoury won over sweet today.

Never tried a steamed muffin before which is what they’re known for so if you’re in the area you should give it a go.

Very tasty maffins and English maffin. We ate blueberry cheesecake and strawberry maffin with coffee, English maffin with ham and cheese. Homemade peach tea was good too. Will come again definitely.

Been here a couple of times and food is average - Overall 3 out if 5. However, if kids play with the cups at the water station and drop them on the floor, please wash them instead of placing them back on the table. Definitely not the most hygienic practice.

Been wanting to try this awesome place for a while, as I absolutely love a good muffin. The muffins are not like your usual cafe muffins, these are more English muffin based with different fillings. Very unique in flavour and worth trying out.

Absolutely love these muffins! They are so different to the traditional muffins and are "twice cooked" - steamed then baked, resulting in a super moist texture with crispy edges. All the flavours arw delicious & I love that some have a hidden surprise inside. Most of the muffins are sweet but there are several savoury muffins also which are all delicous. There is a small menu to order from and limited indoor seating. Staff are friendly and helpful. A must try and if not at the stall then get them at markets around Sydney!

We went here for breakfast before heading to the leichardt market. The muffins are yummy and unique. Staff is super nice!

Got the crumbed eggplant. It was a little disappointing as it was structurally unstable and the eggplant was not crunchy.

However, jasmine made the right choice getting the salmon avo muffin. It is intact and delicious. She especially appreciate the vinegarette.

Nice little joint with many people coming in for coffee!

Im a Leichhardt local and there are a limited number of decent places to visit for food. Ragamuffin is definitely one to visit. We popped in for a bite to eat on Saturday morning and had the option of fresh cooked sweet or savoury muffins. I felt like breakfast so I ordered the Ultimate Grilled Ham and Cheese, it included Romano, Ricotta, Havarti, Feta, Triple Smoked Ham, Pancetta on a Fresh Caramelised Onion and Sweet Potato English Muffin for only $10. It was moist and oozed cheese on the inside with a toasted crunch on the outside. There are about ten savoury muffins to choose from but it was hard to go past the Caramelised Onion and Sweet Potato. If you are visiting Leichhardt add this place to the list, they also do takeaway packs of muffins.

Tried the wikileek and it was really good. I think for the size, it's a little pricey. I think a fairer price would be around $7. We went in when there was only one other customer, got just the one to share, but the service was soooooo......sloooooooow... Took 15mins to get our single muffin. Didn't help that we got this as a snack on our way to an appointment. They have a great product but for those reasons, won't be enjoying them too often. Would consider going in just to get the muffins with no filling.

The zenith of muffin quality is achieved here. I only ever buy a six pack ($20 - bargain!) as I need a whole bunch of flavours, they are so good. The savoury muffins are just as good (if not better) than the sweet muffins.

Incredible! Stumbled across this place after a recommendation and was blown away. Couldn't pick just one so naturally opted to try one of each. Stand outs included the s'more, spotted dick, choc banana peanut butter and anything else with a custard filling (my personal weakness). I'm usually a cupcake kind of girl- but Ive been converted- and never looking back. Even their savory muffins are divine- four cheeses- yum! Cannot get enough of these truly amazing delights. Love it, love it, love it!

After doing the Bay Run we headed here to undo all the hard work and enjoy some muffins. Unfortunately as we rocked up it looks like they were closed for the day but the staff were still inside. We peered hungrily through the window and they were kind enough to let us come in and still purchase the remaining muffins but obviously no coffee as they’ve already cleaned it.

I manage to also score a fantastic deal with my bulk purchase as well which was nice of them. I wont mention the deal as it wasn’t on their menu and given at discretion. The service was extremely friendly and the muffins were fantastic. It would have tasted fantastic if we took them home and heated them up.. especially the savoury ones. I’ll definitely revisit if I’m ever back in the area.
The Set Menu
Nestled on the Leichhardt main strip, this bakery/cafĂ© was very popular a few years ago, when the morning lines for their doughy delicacies were extensive. Their muffins have two defining features: they’re first steamed and then baked, resulting in a softer, denser texture; and they’re injected with various creams/compotes/sauces that form a gooey centre within each mini cake. The shop itself is small, with a few tables by the window and a clear view through to the kitchen, where the assorted cake concoctions are prepared.

Tea time at Ragamuffin. Not your regular muffins! Muffins here are steamed then baked... that's right steamed! -- The Muffins -- Blueberry cheesecake and Chocolate muffin -- Moist on the inside but slight crisp muffin top There's a cream cheese filling in the blueberry muffin and a dollop of chocolate sauce in the chocolate muffin. I loved both muffins! Feels "healthier" than regular muffins. Of course lacking the fattiness of regular muffins, so to some it may seem less "tasty"... but I loved it! Goes so well with my latte (didn't take a picture) I will be back to try other flavours. They also have savoury muffins too! The good thing is, muffins are freshly made every so often. And if you get 6, it is slightly cheaper.

... these are no ordinary muffins. They come in an impressive range of flavours and look and flatter and less puffed out than normal muffins. This is because they are cooked twice- first steamed to ensure that the inside is cooked but still moist and light, then baked to give a crunchy outside. The result is addictive and unlike any other muffin I’ve tasted before.

Located right down the middle of Norton Street is Ragamuffin. They sell what they’re calling steam baked muffin and this is a long overdue visit; the last time we were in the area – they just shut their doors for the day. Its a funny one this – on the street side despite being a long running store; Ragamuffin looks distinctively temporary and yet it has managed to sustained itself where lots of shops along this stretch of road has closed. Inside, Its a tight cafe that sits about 10 and dishes up ragamuffins and also little marionette, blind man coffees. There’s also tea craft teas. The shop has an appealing boho aesthetic and looks quite good. Ragamuffin “Steamed like a dumpling, Baked like a Pie”. There was quite the range of ragamuffins available today. We ended up with the S’more and the Choc-banana Peanutbutter. These muffins are steamed baked and have a different consistency to conventional muffins being a bit more densely packed and not as crumbly which we liked.

Steamed muffins? Until a recently I had no idea that you could steam a muffin! I know that you can burn them, under cook them or accidentally use salt instead of sugar (I have committed all these baking crimes) - but steaming them is a whole new kettle of fish muffins. When it comes to a cooking style that's a little out of the ordinary it's best left to experts like Ragamuffin in Leichhardt, a muffin bakery that opened on Norton Street three months ago. It's doing a roaring trade on Good Friday when we visit, carving a blazing trail through these cupcake centric times. The crew at Ragamuffin first steam their muffins in individual muffin cases and finish them off by giving them a quick turn in the oven. It will be six minutes from the moment you order to the moment your hot little muffin lands in your hot little hands. Six minutes to heaven really. The Boy and I leave the ordering in the capable hands of muffin aficionado Karen , who returns to the table bearing what resembles a muffi

Not your ordinary muffins. More like a moist, light cake than a muffin really. Delicious and a great range of flavours. Lamington ones are especially yum.

What a treat!. Ragamuffin, more like Radamuffin!

Every time I've come here I've been more than impressed. The customer service is always perfect, and the muffins are something else.

Thank you for making my day once again.
Hello
I Dig.... Lived in Leichhardt almost my whole life, I actually prefer the coffee here to 90% of the cafes on Norton Street. I do like their muffins, but the coffee and friendly service is what's bringing me back.
DD L'Amour
The muffin was OK but the coffee was rubbish. Abysmal even. Perhaps we struck a bad day, but I won't be going back to try again.
Doris
Great coffee, incredibly delicious muffins and a friendly staff makes this place an absolute winner. Will definitely go back for more.
Manny
Muffins for the win. Great flavours to choose from, excellent Coffee; even doing a great chai latte if you swing that way. And you can't beat the joyous staff. Highly recommend this spot. You're missin' out.
Carina
Consistently excellent coffee, super friendly service and the best muffins I've ever tasted. Highly recommended!

Once you've had their twice cooked muffins it will be hard to go back to ordinary ones. The muffins are light an have a wonderful soft centre. The of flavours is also awesome.
Just One More Spoon
Tasty!. Muffins steamed and then baked resulting in denser, moist and soft muffins.
Probably one of the best muffins I've ever tasted. Love the flavours, the texture and the surprise filing. Six for $12... bargain

Best sticky date muffins EVER!!

Best coffee on Norton Street. Norton Street has been crying out for a great coffee haunt with both style and substance, and friendly staff who genuinely appreciate their customers! Ragamuffin has delivered to Leichhardtians exactly what we've been craving. The coffee is superb and they also do delicious steam baked muffins, which come in a variety of creative flavour combos. Ragamuffin gets my vote.
