Review Flood Street Carousel - Leichhardt

Matilda Friend
There was a lovely woman who served me with a smile and made sure myself and my kids were looked after! It was very disappointing to hear her boss (a man who is possibly the manager/owner) insult her calling her ‘useless’ and being extremely rude to her. She is an amazing staff member who deserves to be treated with respect and I would personally not want to stick around in a workplace environment that is so negative. Hopefully he apologises and understands the value of his workers before they realise they deserve better…

Nice cosy place and very clean. Staff are friendly and food arrived in good time. The food was very average. It was just like something you would quickly throw together at home for a quick meal when you in a rush. I had the pan cooked scrambled egg with chorizo and cheese and tomato. It was very dry and over cooked. My friend had the pan eggs with beans and was the opposite, undercooked.

Love their food. My favorite is the hectic chicken sandwich and I recently discovered their French toast! Good coffee too.

Quaint and friendly, the coffee is great and so is the food. This family owned business is full of happiness and warmth and the make and amazing baked egg dish.

Fresh, tasty, great service and good coffee. Very popular local spot and well deserved. Recommend.

My go to place for excellent coffee and the best thing about the place is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that the owners Dan and Cal have created. It is a home away from home :) I would recommend to anyone who is in the neighbourhood or who visits Leichhardt!

Stumbled across here this morning and stayed on for lunch. Amazing coffee and the trout salad was divine!! Great customer service too, even in the morning rush.

Dan and Cal, the owners, are a lovely couple who know how to make you feel right at home. The coffee is superb, and super quick, plus the food is always delicious. Great value for money, which is why we visit frequently.

We sat down next to the window at this cozy cafe. The service is warm and welcoming. Food prices are reasonable and had plenty of choices.
We ordered the french toast and the haloumi toast.
The french toast is refreshing and colorful, it's a little sweet but just what we needed. The haloumi toast with beetroot relish is an interesting combo, the sweetness really balanced out the salt in the haloumi.
Coffee is alright, but they have many other beverage options too.

One of the worst dining experiences ever. But especially in this part of town which has so much to offer. My coffee was dusty and bitter. But the food - ordered a waffle with smashed avocado topped with a soft egg and hollandaise. I was expecting a savoury delight. The waffle was sugar coated - crusty with sugar, thereby rendering the avocado on top inedible. I persevered with the egg for a bit. But, unlike the curate's egg it wasn't even good in parts. Rubbery and cold. The hollandaise was gelatinous and curiosly thin at the same time. I will never return.

With the loveliest service, this café was a joy to dine in. Prices were very reasonable, however I did add a serving of avocado which was $4. The hummus was a little dry and difficult to scoop up, but the beans were crazy delicious. I loved how it was a filling and satisfying meal, despite not looking like a lot from first glance. The monkey smoothie had banana, coconut milk, and honey and was also quite good, and came in a big glass. Food took a tad longer to come out than I had hoped, but it more than made up for it in taste and service.

This is coffee review only. Bought a takeaway coffee it was nice and strong and well made. Will come back for food when I am in the area next.

Flood Street Carousel is a long-standing corner cafe that offers fantastic ambience and a family-friendly dining atmosphere. Located in Leichhardt, this cafe is conveniently close to the Marketplace. There’s plenty of parking about, the closest being the Flood Street Leichhardt Car Park. The interior is spacious and haphazardly decorated in a chic way, with an eclectic mix of lounges and chairs. The tables had a checkerboard that could probably double up as an area for playing chess!

Rubbery eggs & snarky service. Decided to try it out one saturday morning. Decor mimics the tendy vintage mismismatchhed furniture with comfy lounges and eclectic nic nacs that remind you of a twisted childhood. I didn't wait long to be seated. The morning sun was blaring in and directly into my eyes. I just made a small joke about this and was met with a snarky comment about how she wasn't god and cannot control the sun. A bit unessecary and rude and I refrained from making any small talk seeing its not welcomed. Everything when downhill from there. Coffee was bitter and burnt. I had cooked eggs with feta, caramelized onions and pine nuts. Sounds delicious! The eggs turned out hard and rubbery with the 'caramelized onions' from a jar making the eggs really sweet. No courtesy of what bread you would like and if you forget to ask you are served multigrain bread. Luckily I dont mind and can eat any bread but the standard gesture would've been nice. Very pricy food. Overall there are way better places to eat in Leichhardt for the same amount of money.
Little Eats Sydney
With plenty of parking and adjoining Leichhardt’s busy market place, Flood Street Carousel is the perfect drop in for a break from shopping with the kids. A comfy couch and kid friendly vibe will sooth fractious young shoppers and restore exhausted parents energy. Flood Street Carousel is a neighbourhood cafe that arouses fierce loyalty amongst local families. It’s because of the little touches, like exhibiting local artists, involvement in fundraisers, the DVD swap shelf and the infinity loaves and hampers Carousel sell to customers. But most importantly it’s the kid friendly atmosphere that keeps families coming back each week for delicious brunch dishes like French toast with stewed fruits such as rhubarb or pears ($14.50) and an ever changing lunch menu including unusual soups ($9.50) like tomato and kaffir or carrot, pesto and labne.
Little Munch
Flood Street Carousel doubles as a small grocer, selling Infinity Sourdough Bread and the delicious Farmer Jo Muesli, as well as preserves, sauces....and flowers. Make sure someone buys you a bunch Mummas! Just a word of warning, Flood St Carousel is a cash only business (when I suggested to Mr Itch that a bunch of flowers were in order, he used the excuse that he didn't have any more cash on him!).

I tried their chicken sandwich with fontina cheese which I liked much more. Also their coffee is great!

Great coffee! Great food! Great service! Quirky little cafe on the corner near a round about - a light breeze flows through this beautiful brunch paradise on a sunny, clear winters day as we eat our avocado toast and pumpkin palenta w/eggs, sugar snap beans. Kid friendly, cash only.

Best coffee I've found in Sydney. They use sensory lab beans from Melbourne and manage to make a much better cup than the sensory lab in bondi. Menu is quirky and creative - sorry but I disagree with a previous post wanting the regular menu items. I think the menu is a selling point for this cafe. Yes super child friendly with toys, books, colouring pencils etc. great park and playground across the road for takeaways too.

Great coffee, lovely staff, kid friendly. I popped in for a quick coffee, only to realise too late that I didn't have any cash on me (it's a cash only cafe). Not only was the coffee great, but they told me just to pay next time I was in. It was really generous of them, and much appreciated considering it was pouring rain and I was juggling pram and baby. I ended up dropping in the money on my way home that day. Thanks to the lovely team at Flood St Carousel!

No thanks!. I went there with my toddler (as suggested by a friend as cafe is known to be child friendly). The menu, which was present on a dirty piece of A4 paper lacked variety. My coffee came quickly and was nice, as for food they said they would be back in a minute to take my order and never returned. I approached counter to be served. Eventually my food came but they forgot half my order. By now my toddler is screaming the place down so we left (took food away as takeaway). You can also only pay by cash which I find really annoying. It is child friendly, yet you couldn't fit a pram in to save your life.
Pros
Good location
Nice big windows (my toddler loves watching the world go by)
Good coffee

Cons
Very boring menu, very average food
Cramped
Doesn't do eftpos
Poor service
Rude waiter

I really liked this cafe! Coffee was GREAT! Deco was cool, staff were super friendly and helpful! My child was screaming the place down, and I didn't feel judged or like I was annoying at all. They had magnets on the fridge for the kids to play with. My meal was delishious and for a meal with 3 ingredients that's saying something! The prices were fair too. Four of us ate and drank for under $50. The babycinos were different and exciting. Good vibe, good atmosphere, good location.
We will be back tomorrow!

Coffe was average on 3 occasions. The menu lacked standard breakky options on first 2 visits, only had coffee on last visit (takeaway mind you) as they were using the cafe as a set for a childrens' photo shoot of some sort. Have since passed by and noticed it being used as a film set or something. I like my cafes to be cafes, not film sets. Sorry won't be back.

Good coffee- $4 though. Pork and slaw Sammie way too heavy in the slaw

Great New Hangout. Went here for a quick breakfast, and that it was. Between three of us we ordered the breakfast served in the pan, brioche with bananas, (the third meal escapes me!) and coffees. We were all really pleased with our meals and the friendly, efficient service. The cafe has a nice open feel, like you're eating at a friend's house, relaxing while they prepare your coffee for you. Really good location behind the market place, away from the hustle-bustle of Marion Street, but convenient enough for you to pop in before you go shopping (makes a really nice change to the food court).
Give it a go!
