Review Sea Shanty - Mackay

Lady serving us was quick to ignore our questions which was a little off putting until the other server quickly came over we were going to walk right out again. Chips were nice but fish was overcooked and caused them to be very dry. Not sure i would recommend this place again to be honest.

Great little fish and chip shop. Staff we're really friendly and the food was great. Best chips I've had anywhere in a very long time.

Apparently this place has the best seafood in town. I have to admit the battered coral trout was absolutely delicious. Located across the road from the bowls club, it is a great way after a few beers to eat some really good seafood. It can get very busy at dinnertime, so i recommend to got a little earlier.

Ordered fish chips at 1600 in shop still waiting at 1630 one lady in shop cooking & serving phone ringing none stop lady kept walking away answering pnone,and serving other customers, while my order is hanging above the fryer. Lady did apologise for the wait. Worse fish chips ever cold and fish like rubber. First time customer won't be back. Very disappointing.

I ordered three fish packs for $12.00 each, I confirmed the order and price over the phone. When I arrived they said each fish pack was $14.00 each and confronted them about this as I knew this was incorrect and the lady responded with “ sorry you must have an old menu” she then showed me their latest menu and still said $12, I then requested a refund for at least ONE fish pack and said, “no, if you have a problem with the order contact us tomorrow.” I’m very disappointed with the service of this shop. They did taste quite good but was a little oily for my likings, overall they were expensive, faulty and rude.

I was brought up with British Fish and Chips which are renowned for being too greasy but unfortunately these were way over the top. We chose here because of the reviews even though from the outside it looks like a complete dive. I’m sorry but although the staff were wonderful, professional and polite I couldn’t eat there again.

Most places change with time, either for better or worse. Sea Shanty has managed to stay the same for over 15 years, they still have the best fish and unlike most places it is a decent sized piece of fish and it comes with a very generous serve of chips. It has stayed as the go to stop on any trips through mackay

Staff were lovely, food was what you expect at a fish and chip shop, i found the price to be steep for what it was. I'm sure overheads, rising costs in seafood etc all play a part. Just a little hard to justify paying for a single peice of fried fish at the same price as a whole meal only 30m accross the road at KFC. So my rating is purely about value, the staff are lovely and im sure theres reasons behind it that i haven't captured.
