The best of the best Thai food in Melbourne ran by the passionated people.
Best Thai food we've had in ages. Great Sunday evening meal, highly recommend.
Great service the food was excellent & delicious!! Awesome place ;)
Fantastic food, great service, good atmosphere and well priced
That duck curry is the bomb! Loving the fresh herbs and punch of flavor in every bite.
Celebrated my birthday. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Will b back again soon.
Love Love Love MAMA PAPA !...Try it and you'll LOVE it too !
Great restaurant ever! friendly staffs, good food, nice atmosphere, best service. loved it!
Good Food-Nice Place-MAMAPAPA <3 <3
The MaMa PaPa is a beautiful restaurant with friendly and caring staffs. Love it.
The Best EVER !!! I LOVE The MaMaPaPa I would recommended ^_^ Lovin'
loved this place.. food amazing & fresh.. the only problem was the music :( why play 91.5fm instead of some beautiful Thai bells?
We had a lovely dinner last night. Really fresh flavours and generous serves. The staff were very friendly and overall it was a great night. We were a bunch of friends and we split the bill four ways. Thought it was a bit steep having a $25 minimum for EFTPOS. That’s the highest I’ve ever seen. So we all paid more than we needed. Left a bad taste at the end of a really nice meal.
My partner and I have been here a few times and keep returning. Love their green curry, pad thai, pad see ew, spring rolls and lots of other dishes. They change up the vegetables and the dishes themselves a bit but it’s always delicious.
Lovely and attentive staff also.
Really good Thai restaurant which we have been going to for years. The owner is so friendly and she always tries her hardest to please. All the dishes are delicious. Must try.
Came here last Friday night after we found out some other Thai place we wanted to go to was fully booked out for the night. This place was nice. At the start, it took them a while to give us water (we ended up having to ask twice) because they forgot. I liked how for entree, we were able to choose our own tasting platter-we got the market platter which included the chicken skewers, duck spring rolls and vegetable dumplings (they ran out of these dumplings so they offered us corn and chicken dumplings as an alternative).i really liked their dipping sauce, thought it tasted well with the spring rolls, satay and dumplings. In terms of main, we had the pad Thai with beef and chicken, duck curry. Weirdly we did not find any duck in the curry-so perhaps it was false advertising there. Lots of chicken though 🙌
Overall, a nice Thai experience
Really enjoyed our green curry and pad see ew. Was full of flavour, well presented and perfect portion sizes. Polite and lovely staff. Thank you.
I have been meaning to write a review for Mama Papa for a while now. I usually order through menulog but on this occasion we dined in, so I finally took some photos to do the food some justice.
I don’t normally comment on staff but the staff at Mama Papa are so welcoming and friendly they deserve a shout out. Even at their busiest times, they are very patient.
In terms of food, it is one of my favourite Thai restaurants. Yep, price range is a little more mid range but they consistently bang out dishes that are full of flavour with a balance of sweet, savoury and spice. I have ordered here plenty of times, and my go to is the king prawn pad thai. It never lets me down. My other favourite is their stir fry with cashew nuts. Mama Papa is a great restaurant if you’re in Malvern, or to order in for those treat nights when you don’t feel like cooking.
5/5 for amazing Thai take away.
I have a pretty serious fish allergy and they were more than helpful on the phone to make sure there wasn't anything seafood related in any meal.
The chicken pad se ew was super fresh, loads of vegetables and chicken. Fried rice with pineapple and cashews was a generous serve, spring rolls I wish there was more as they are super tasty and I could eat a container of the sweet sour crisp chicken to myself if I could.
Really delicious food - and great they listen to allergies!!
It is my favorite Thai restaurant in Melbourne. Food is fresh and tasty and price is reasonable. Staffs are very friendly. Interior is also nice.
Food was so good! The flavours of each dish was amazing! Soft shell crab salad, lamb curry, pad Thai, thom yum soup, etc... The staff were super accomodating and friendly :)
Warm welcome, Taste is delicious.
I recommend MIENG KHAM, appetizer that you never had in Melbourne, So Yum!!!
BBQ Tumeric chicken is very nice, OG marinated sauce.
TEMPLE STIR FRY with CRISPY SALMON and LARB PED SPRING ROLL is so amazing.
I really like this place. Fresh, modern and yum. The service can be pretty unreliable/slow so don't go if you're in a hurry. If you want a fresh and healthy dinner without compromising on flavour, this well balanced Thai food is a good option.
Great place, fresh food, great service. Ambiance was really lovely, dimmed lights and candles on tables. The serving sizes were a little bit small for the price but we still walked out feeling very satisfied. Probably the best roti bread we have ever had. We would certainly recommend to others and definitely come back. Thanks so much!
Wow! What an incredible meal. The food here is delicious - it's some of the best Thai I've had in Melbourne and the lovely warm service and comfortable seating means I'll be back with all my family , of and the added bonus of BYO!!
The Massaman Lamb Curry is is the best curry I've had in a long time. Thinking of getting it for dinner twice in a row.
The Roti is tasty, but $5.5 for a tiny piece is NOT bang for Buck. Overall a good feed.
Great local Thai food. This place is consistently good. The fried fish and curry sauce is a must. It can be a bit noisy, but we've always had a wonderful time here.
Great set up with open frontage to street. Food was delectable. Service was on par although one waitress on duty made for a touch tardy on ordering.
The experience begins with a warm welcome by the staff. The ambiance at night is dim light, tea light candles and a small flower center piece on every table. The Decor is simple, clean and modern.
The cuisine is modern Thai. Modern, vibrant & colorful in presentation with the traditional complex flavors. The freshness and quality of the ingredients is of premium standards!
Entree included the fried calamari- fresh, tasty and lightly crispy, tender and juicy all at once accompanied by a home made sweet chili sauce. The Roti was absolute perfection 100% fresh and cooked on the spot accompanied by a home made sweet satay sauce. Both entrees were divine.
For main we shared the Massaman curry with lamb, sweet potato & cashew.s. This dish was spiced to a level to give maximum flavor but at the same time the spice was not over bearing. The lamb was slow cooked and very tender. The velvety sauce is the perfect way to flavor the coconut rice. We were lucky enough to have been offered pork belly as a special- no regrets! The pork belly was slow cooked for hours to the perfect level of tenderness and developed a caramelized and slightly chewy top dressed in a thin consistency soy sauce dressing on a bed of Chinese broccoli.
All in all, efficient and warm service, colorful & vibrant dishes. Very satisfying experience. The flavors definitely hit the spot. I can't wait to return and recommend to friends & family. Well done Mama Papa!
Great Modern Thai food on Glenferrie Road.
Must try the Miang Kham Betel Leaf with Tiger Prawns - great flavours, beautifully presented and prawns perfectly cooked.
For mains, we had the Floating Market Calamari and Papa's Pineapple Duck Curry.
The calamari was very tasty, beautifully prepared and presented. Sauce was a little on the salty side, but still very nice.
Papa's Duck Curry was deliciously rich and sweet with just enough spice flavour to make the dish interesting and authentic.
We were offered an off-menu dessert of the traditional banana in sticky rice, served with some coconut ice cream.
The warm sticky rice and banana were perfectly matched and balanced with the sauce which was slightly salty. And then cleansed with the amazing coconut ice cream!
Great dessert!!!
Staff were very friendly, polite and efficient.
We'll definitely be coming back! :)
The service and food are great at this restaurant. Everything is very fresh and tasty and the staff serving the food are very friendly and polite. I'm looking forward to going back to try more dishes. The only down side is the fact that the portion sizes of the dishes could be larger, like other Asian restaurants in the area.
One of the best thai restaurants I've been to. The betel leaf with prawn is amazing! Great satay, curry, pad thai, pretty much everything is great. Super friendly staff
The food was delicious and fresh. I love that there are healthy alternatives and dishes are not full of processed ingredients. This is the best Thai I have found in Melbourne so far :)
One of my top three favourite Thai restaurants in Melbourne! Mama Papa leans towards fusion a bit, and their dishes tend to have a more modern feel. The decor is simply lovely and this restaurant would be perfect for both small and large dining parties. Every time I visit, the food is beautiful in look and taste - perfectly cooked, well balanced, super tasty. I've been impressed with all the dishes. The service is lovely but lags a bit when the restaurant is over half full, so it would be nice if they had more staff during these busy periods. But the wait is well worth the great food! This is a highly recommended gem in the Eastern suburbs!
I've been here a number of times and am always impressed! Everything I've tried has been delicious & fresh. Service can be a little slow, but always friendly & polite. Last night I tried the 'miang kham'- prawns on betel leaf and they were a standout!
Amazing service with a smile. Food quite nice and ambience very pleasant. I'm quite impressed with my first visit with family
Will return for sure
Beautiful food and presentation. Staff were wonderful! A definite thumbs up!!!
My partner and I dined there on a Sunday evening. It was quite busy for a Sunday. You should definitely book ahead for Friday and Saturday evenings.
There were only 2 waitresses working and they were very busy. We received little attention from them, although when they did serve us they were reasonably friendly.
The food was quite nice. The tom yum soup was a bit too sweet as was the coconut rice. The duck curry and the seafood pad cha were tasty.
We'd give this place another go.
Outstanding Thai!. Cool little place which stands out on Glenferrie Road. Service good but the food was exceptional, so many great flavours from the old and with a twist. Awesome!
FANTASTIC Thai Restaurant!!!. We come to this restaurant time and time again and are always extremely impressed with the quality of the dishes and service!! We thoroughly recommend the betel leaf and crying TIGER!!! This restaurant is a gem!!
Great local.... Had dinner here on the weekend with my family and I can say that we all thoroughly enjoyed every dish that we ordered. As others have said, the pineapple and duck curry was a particular hit, as were the spring rolls. I also think that they could have been a little more generous with the roti but if that is my biggest complaint for the night, they are on a winner. The staff were lovely, coming to check how our meal was going and couldn't be more helpful if they tried. Very reasonably priced for good food and hopefully will be back soon.
Best Local Thai. Finally a Thai restaurant that has delicious curry which is not overly sweet! I ordered the Street Food Platter, Mortar Papaya Salad and Papa's Pineapple Duck Curry to share with my boyfriend. We were pleasantly surprised with the dishes particularly the duck, being cooked to perfection. The restaurant has modern decor and is quite romantic. Definitely will be back again for a perfect date night!
Lovely decor, friendly service, amazing street food at a cheap price .
Best Thai I've had in a very long time!. Lovely fresh, crunchy vegetables.
The chicken in our stir fry and the lamb in our curry were cooked perfectly.
The satay sauce which comes with roti bread is very tasty!
Clean facilities, and friendly service :)
It's absolutely fantastic, food is amazing, service is great. My first choice of Thai restaurant, it's the local Thai!!! I'd love to bring family and friends next time.
Delicious but problems with order. We order two dishes plus rice and roti for delivery. The dishes tasted delicious but the servings were very small. The one piece of roti we got for $5.50 was about 10cm square and they forgot the satay sauce to go with it. Bread is cheap, be a bit more generous with it.
Amazing restaurant, food and service. This is now our local Thai. Love it. Food is fresh and the waitresses are brilliant.
I love Mama Papa ;). I had been there with my family and everyone fall in love the foods...so terrific. Especially Betal leaf with prawn,Signature salad,Pineapple Red duck curry are the Best!! We will recommend to everyone.
The best restaurant I have ever been. They provide good services. The staffs are friendly And the restaurant is beautiful...The best place to have dinner...must try!!!!!!!!
Great quality. We tried 5 dishes and all were top class, Full of flavours and served with great presentation. The price was very reasonable for the quality of the dishes and the service was great nice and friendly.
We would defiantly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Best Thai cuisine ever. Friendly service and price is reasonable. Desert is so yummy and authentic.banana in pj is awesome. Definitely 5star.
Great food good service nice and lovely staff. Betal leave prawn, temple stie fried salmon, signature beef salad are highly reccommend.
Yum! Very clean fresh tasty Thai! Service is so friendly every time! Try the grilled calamari, pineapple duck curry and banana in pajamas ( Nutella wraped roti banana with vanilla ice cream!)We love this place highly recommend!!!! It's now our local go to for Thai!
Great food, passion and service. Worth a try you won't be disappointed.
This place is AMAZING! Fantastic authentic thai food. The best I've had in Melbourne. The whole menu is so appetising, great service, all in all a great experience, and wonderful meal. Cant wait to go back!
Great new restaurant. This was a great experience all round. The food was not your standard fare but was a wonderful blend of flavour and spice. The duck curry was amazing and the crying tiger (my first experience of this dish) was one I will readily try again. The whole menu looks appetising, and the food presentation was done with style. The wait staff and the owner were polite and very pleasant. This is well worth a try (and a repeat visit or several). I hope they do well.
Modern Thai heaven. I am in love.
Must order homemade spring rolls, red duck curry, papaya salad, soft shell crab salad and the calamari. Desserts are a must!!!! Every meal ordered was beyond expectations.
Delicious.
The staff were generous and very friendly. We gave them a nice tip after the meal as we were so satisfied.
Mama Papa is a relatively new addition to the Glenferrie Rd, Malvern dining scene…and what a lovely addition it is. With a funky interior, a generous menu selection and very friendly staff, the first impressions are great. Gluten free items are not specifically marked on the menu but most things either are or can be made gluten free so you just need to let the staff know. I tried a Pad See Ew, one of my favourite Thai dishes and one I’ve tried at many a Thai restaurant, and it was delicious. One of the best I’ve ever had in Melbourne. This place is highly recommended for a good night of nice Thai food! 253 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern Related Posts: Prickly Pear, Malvern Red Mullet, Malvern Bizzarri Dolci, East Malvern Blue Corn, St Kilda Little India Bistro & Tandoor, South Yarra
