Review Asakusa Japanese Restaurant - Malvern

Been here a few times with my family and we always love it. Feels very traditional, and has not changed much since when I went with my grandparents when I was much younger. Staff are always so respectful and nice and due to its smaller size you seating will feel very intimate which I really like. Good prices for what you’re getting and an array of options on the menu, both food and drinks.

Was craving Japanese food and discovered this spot on EatClub. It's not the best or most authentic Japanese food, but tastes good and is affordably priced (even without the discount). The thin yakisoba are well flavoured and not too oily and full of veg. The tofu don is a bit boring but at least it's clean and relatively light with nice, sweet onions and an egg on top, in the traditional fashion. The nasu dengaku is a great addition to these two dishes.

WOW just had the most disappointed dining experience. 3 of us waited here for a hour while the waitresses were busy with all kind of take-out orders. We felt completely left out, just hoping that the hotpot we were waiting for is worth the wait. The sad truth was that we’ve waited for a hour for a pot of tofu and cabbage and a plate of raw beef. That worth of $50 for 2 people, two drips of sauce which we really needed more of it when there isn’t any flavour in the beef or the hotpot. We wish we went with other restaurants, at least for $70 you can get a decent amount of food with some flavours. Rice were hard too!? I’m not sure how did you cooked this but it’s upsetting our stomach. Overall We really want to give a no ⭐️ for this ‘worth dining experience ‘.

We didn't take any photos unfortunately. The services of the lady was good but the food quality was far below expectations. The rice was quite hard and now fresh, sashimi wasn't fresh enough and portion is quite small. I don't see why there were so many good comments there but I probably won't go there again.

We had a very enjoyable meal at Asakusa. Attentive staff in a warm and inviting space. So many standout dishes it's difficult to pick a favourite but the sushi & sashimi platter was particularly delicious and eye-catching. It must be said, the menu is a little overwhelming but the specials were affordable and helped guide our choices. We look forward to returning!

I used to live in Japan, and I ate out everyday. I was pleasantly surprised at how authentic the food was here. I ordered the sashimi platter, lobster roll and crab burger. The sashimi was fresh and very good quality / portions considering the price. The lobster roll was fantastic, especially good with the flamed salmon topping with Japanese mayonnaise. The crab burger was the highlight, lightly battered and fresh with the perfect accompaniment of pickled vegetables and crispy bun. My only regret is that I didn’t discover this place sooner. Prices very reasonable.

New owners/chef Jerry doing a great job improving this long, established Japanese restaurant. It's my local and I come here 3 or 4 times each month. Little by little improvements are being made. Decor, crockery, signage, general cleanliness etc. Service is great, very friendly and efficient by Alex, shandy and the others. Food is outstanding, especially Shashimi which is always very fresh and beautifully presented. Traditional dishes like sushi, agadashi tofu, tempura are all very good and supplimented by Jerry's imaginative specials. Keep improving Asakusa. We will keep coming to enjoy the experience.

Ordered: *temaki - simple, nice *takoyaki - taste is as expected *2 bowls of udon (beef and seafood) - beef was bland, seafood was ok Servers were running everywhere so lends to an atmosphere of hectic rushing. We sat down and ordered way before another couple yet they got their full plate of selected sushi and karage before we even got anything. Finally the temaki arrives then the couple gets two more dishes before the udon arrives! Not very happy with timing of food. Took about 30 mins for the temaki.

Really unhappy you no longer serve ramen. Your noodle dishes don’t taste very nice and the quality of meat in them is extremely poor. Your tempura is very oily and your serves of sashimi are small for the price. Pretty disappointing all things considered.
Tessa
I enjoyed my takeaway meal from here. Sashimi was very fresh and tempura was delicious. I also ordered the beef yakinuki stir fry which was a bit average. But overall a decent meal and would order again.

I have been here before, but for this time, tofu is not fresh, it has a sour taste...... Disappointed

If you love Japanese you will love this place. Their Bento boxes have a huge variety and you can taste the freshness. Service was fantastic and I love how quick the service is. Dipping sauces were just perfect, not too salty like they can be and fish was fresh and packed with flavour. This place deserves another visit soon.

We keep coming back because each dish is so lovingly prepared and mouth wateringly good. A little dearer than a local competitor but worth it. A cut above.

The food feels almost inconsequential at the point of writing this review- it was decent; no real standouts. It was the unbelievably attentive service from the waitstaff who served us just overshadowed anything else that night. Granted, there wasn't many tables to wait on, but I don't believe I've seen anyone with such enthusiasm for their work. Ambience was nice too

really recommend this restaurant . delicious food and kind staff. everything is perfect. really like soft crab burger and tempura at Asakusa 😀
Les
Fairly average and was inconsistent standard across the dishes we had:Soft shell grab Kara Age, Salmon Canape and Karei Kara Age were all good. The Gyoza had excellent filling but pastry was doughy. The Ten Don was boiled and tough and vegetables rock hard and lacked flavour. The Gyu Shogayaki comes on a huge bed of rice and would benefit from some flavouring sauce; and the sweet potato portion was not cooked enough. However the service and ambience was up to standard and

We ordered one soft shell crab roll and one nabeyaki udon. The portion of Soft shell crab roll is a bit small. The nabeyaki udon tastes blend. But the main reason why makes me gives it 1 star is not because of the food. When we pay the bill, their eftpos machine connection got problem. And unluckily we don’t have enough cash, we would like to pay credit card. But no matter how they try to connect the machine is still not working and no connection. So they ask us to do bank transfer for the bill. That’s unpleasant experience so I won’t visit this restaurant again.

The food is quite good but portions can be small.<br/>The most annoying thing is that they charge you for extras such as extra mayonnaise or soy sauce. We asked for a couple of extra soy sauces with our takeaway sushi, you know, the little fish shaped ones, and they insisted on giving us a container of soy sauce and charging us $2 for it. And we’ve been going there for years, and they still charged us for extra soy, not smart. We won’t be going there again.

Came here a long time ago and we fondly remember the good food however unfortunately it was a different story this time around. The shabushabu was bland and the meat was tough. The sushi was fairly good but some of the other dishes we tried were not that great. Hopefully this was a once off....
The Dear Luncher
The appearance from the exterior would suggest otherwise, but this quaint, family-run operation on Waverley Road packs a very strong punch.  Established in 2002 they have developed a strong reputation. Guests are packed in very tightly so this makes for quite a noisy experience, but the key here is to just talk louder than the other patrons.

Our favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Teriyaki beef, fried chicken, yakitori and tempura prawns are standouts. Love the ambience it's a really comfortable restaurant with great staff.
Fork And Spoon
We went there at 6:30 and got seated immediately, order around 7:00 and only got our food 43 mins to 1 hour later. Service is HORRIBLE. I don't understand how this restaurant got such high ratings. I asked for a glass of warm water twice and upon leaving the restaurant now I have not yet gotten it. We ordered a variety of sushi, sashimi, udon and the shabu-shabu. The food is mediocre at best, everything had TOO much vegetables and all felt overpriced and cheap. There was a lack of fresh poultry and meat. I am very disappointed with the restaurant and would not recommend my friends or family to come back. They should improve on their service and listening skills. The waitresses were even gossiping at the counter and ignoring our requests. The taste was really bland. Never coming back here again.<br/>Ambience: small restaurant with not crowded feeling, which is good.

Favourite Japanese for a special dinner. Food priced as expected for Japanese and restaurant fit out is okay, but nothing flash. Salmon skin rolls and deep fried flounder are personal favourites. All sushi and sashimi prepared by someone who knows what they're doing, so be prepared to wait a little for your servings if the place is full when you walk in. Service is good and drinks are affordable. Good variety of Japanese drinks available.<br/> <br/><br/>June 2019 update: Looks like this place has changed hands. We went for dinner recently and it was okay, but not the great place it used to be. Shame, means we have to find another special Japanese Restaurant...Oh well, it will be fun looking!

A hidden gem in the burbs. I've been frequenting Asakusa for a good 5 years and it's never disappointed. The head sushi chef is an amazing guy and his work is meticulous. The Unagi is outstanding, as is the selection of rolls (crispy salmon, spicy tuna, soft shell crab), and his karaage and sashimi platters will satisfy the fussiest of eaters.<br/>Great restaurant.

I have frequented this local Japanese gem for at least 8 years and there is a reason I keep going back. The food here is excellent and authentic. The sushi is fresh; made fresh as soon as you order by the Japanese sushi chef in plain view in the corner. He always has a polite friendly smile. <br/>The California rolls, the spicy tuna and salmon, the futomaki (pictured) will not disappoint.<br/>Other great dishes are the tempura, the eggplant, the beef katsu don, agedashi tofu, udon noodles, really everything I have tried here is good. <br/>My husband says the pork belly shogayaki is too small a serving for the price though. <br/>The restaurant is small, discreet with Japanese ornaments and the service is good, I am pretty sure all staff are Japanese.<br/>Worth a visit for sure, you will have a great Japanese experience.
Who Loves Good Food
Another overrated eatery :(<br/>Entree: California maki, salmon skin rolls & softshell crab were good. Loved the wasabi mayo that came with the crab. The Agedashi tofu was just average. <br/>After entree, everything went downhill. We waited about 45mins for the mains. <br/>Main: The katsu Don was nice. Sukiyaki was expensive & tad too salty. Ramen was good but portion was small, not enough. The soba came without the tempura. They got the order wrong. When the tempura came much later, it was soggy & sad. <br/>

Cute little restaurant. Doesn't look like much from the outside and was even a little surprised with how much we enjoyed our dining experience. We ordered some sake, sashimi, sushi hand rolls and tatsuta age to share. Being a small little restaurant, they only had a few wait staff.. but even they they did not have a lot of staff, our meals came out pretty promptly and our waitress was always attentive when needed. Very happy with the overall dining experience and the food was outstanding. Tatsuta age was delicious..Will gladly dine again.

First time be there, the food served to low. Terrible service I can feel no service there, bad food taste, never go there again. Wait 10min to pay, cause cashier leave us alone go back to kitchen!<br/>

I have never left this place disappointed! I came back for my birthday after I was taken here by my friends originally. The decor is average and you would not expect the exquisite tastes of Japan to come from a place that looks so average from the outside! Pretty much everything is good to eat from here. I love that they give edamames here (yummy!)
Harrykarakinos
Good local Japanese restaurant with quality food. Small shop front and decor a little disappointing. Service always awesome. Well priced and extensive menu
Two Sheds
This is my friends favourite local Japanese. I've been here twice now with them and have enjoyed thoroughly both times. Every dish we had here last night was really tasty. Service was friendly, polite and efficient too, particularly from Zoe. Fantastic. Love it.

Ive eaten at many japenese restaurants. This one is the best ive had in Australia. Steve the resident chef is articulate and accurate. His work is off a high itamae and sushi standard. I recommend this place and salmon skin roll as my favourite dish<br/>

Offering a wide range of delicious Japanese dishes, Asakusa was great for casual dinners. Atmosphere and food presentation were pretty average though.

Very yummy food ,all food made fresh ,I liked go this place with my friends no rush joined food and chatting <br/>Ordered some entrances to start ,was like tori tasuta so much , sushi plater I usually ordered when we had party at home was amazing as well

Take away maybe not best choice, but for starving people, it's just right, maybe because it made to order. taste yummy and fresh.. hmmmmm....
Melbournerlocker
They got variety of selections of hot dishes and sushi sashimi, the hot pot called Shabushabu is quite nice to have with two people with rice in combination, asian people's lover. <br/>But Cold dishes like Zara Soba - Cold noodles maybe just for hot summer.
Cat
One day, I paid my bill and then watched as the young lady served another customer who came up to pay his bill. My takeaway sat on the bench near the guy making the sushi. No apology, no further words exchanged apart from how much I owed. <br/>After the change of ownership, I decided to give Asakusa a second chance. Again, the staff do not know what is authentic Japanese food. Eggplant was way too salty and sushi was loose. The waitress was extremely rude. Overpriced and terrible food. Never again!
Wei Chen
Had delicious dinner last night, very fresh sushi never had like this before, love the hot pot with wague beef, reasonable price. Strong recommend to try it.

Only come here for sushi. Servings are small and very over priced for common item dishes like Ramen and Rice meals ($19-$20) and the servings are still small. I'm not stingy but how on earth you can charge those prices for such small portion sizes is beyond me, much better restaurant around. Avoid unless you must have sushi.
Toodles
Good honest Japanese food. My only issue is the price. I really feel that you don't have to pay that much for good Japanese food. But if price doesn't motivate you then the chef at this restaurant will serve up lots of yummy delights. Toodles

Hidden gem. I don't usually write reviews but this place really deserves a good one . I almost don't want too many people to know about it . My partner and myself go there regularly for Sushi. I can't say we have tried any other dish except the Miso Eggplant as a side dish.<br/>We love it so much we don't ever want to order anything else . It's delicious and so fresh & service is great!

Sunday dinner for two.. Asakusa is only good for takeaway. Do not eat in. Great food but totally disorganised table service. This was my third time trying there but I'm not going back. The waitresses are sweet but they have no clue about prioritising. Last time we were there we were ignored for a party going on up stairs. This time Take Away was definitely the priority. Took us 20 minutes to get our drinks then an hour and half to get our mains. One shared entree served after an hour and fifteen. Another couple arrived after us and we're leaving before we had our mains. Soooo frustrating! Won't be going back.

Friends recommended this place as they've dined here many times before and know the owner Steven. Luckily we reserved a table as it was so busy at this hidden gem on a Saturday night. Steven who's running the restaurant also worked as a sushi chef designed our dishes and we left him to make whatever

We walked passed Asakusa on the way to MSY a few weeks ago and since then, we've been for dinner twice. I can't believe I've never noticed this restaurant earlier despite it being on the Age Cheap Eats every year since 2006. It is located on the corner of

We were seated quickly (since we had phoned up earlier and made a booking), and were shuffled through the front of the restaurant to a smaller room where there were a few other diners. We were promptly given menus and began trawling through the menu to fi

Love it!. We've been going to Asakusa for at least 10 years and have always enjoyed it. The sushi chef is jovial and efficient - and we don't care if he's Chinese and not Japanese; what he produces is fabulous. We can't believe what some reviews have been said about it not being fresh; we've always found it melt-in-the mouth fresh. The tempura is excellent; light and not oily. The eggplant and the eel are great too. The ice-creams are to die for. It's our favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne! We love the family-run atmosphere and like that it isn't a big glamorous place! if the daughter (we think) sometimes didn't want to be there as a waitress, what 16 y.o would? It was all part of the fun. Try it!

Just bad. I went to asakusa tonight, and surprisingly, not like what ive seen on urbanspoon, the service here is pretty decent, however the food, the food here is totally not worth the price they charge. sashimi and sushi are not fresh, the soft shell crab is tasteless, the beef don is over cooked and the soup is just really plain...go to CBD and there are so many better japanese restaurants. Also this is actually a japanese restaurant run by chinese...
David Lew
Good food but don't bring kids. The high chair is about the only thing that's kid-friendly. Toilets - no. Service - no. Took an hour to serve mains. We had 2 kids with us so it would have at least been polite to let us know about the wait. We also couldn't get a soup in anything smaller than a large bowl for a small kid. How challenging can it be to put it in a smaller bowl?

Expensive. Mistakes. Forget it.. Is it a restaurant?<br/>Is it takeaway?<br/>I think this place confuses the the two.<br/>Be sure. Be very sure they get your order right. Otherwise it can be a an expensive mistake and they take no responsibility.<br/>Order taking can be a long drawn out frustrating experience. <br/>At the prices they charge, it should be supported by equal service. It slow, painstakingly slow. Leaving you wondering why bother.???????<br/>You can do better elsewhere. <br/>Japanese would be enjoyable. These guys just don't get it.

Beware of the poor service - go to Shyun instead. We are locals and have given Asakusa four tries in the hope they would get it right.<br/>NO they can not get it right.<br/>So if you want a meal with kids go to SHYUN on Koornang Rd - cheaper and better service and by far better authentic local Japanese.<br/><br/>1. First visit - forgot my sons raw salmon rice dish - dish arrived when we had finished eating - excuse they gave was there was a new chef.<br/>2. Second visit - left off half the order and had to wait 1hour for the rest of our order - excuse was they had new staff.<br/>3. Third visit - left off my husbands order - arrived when we had finished - excuse was they were busy.<br/>4. Fourth visit - take away - got order home - order missing my meal and my daughters meal - rang them and they argued with us over the phone - excuse was they were busy and we never ordered the food.<br/><br/>The Japanese is ordinary - it is close by and this is why we gave them so many tries. But they are expensive and have poor customer service.<br/>Honestly - the food is over sauced and same strip veggies arrive with every combination - they only good thing are the Gyoza.<br/>Do your self a favour and drive down the road to Koornang Road Carneige - try Shyun they have two restaurants and the food is amazing.<br/>The staff all have sufficient English to get orders right and the food is amazing and cheap.<br/><br/>I have heard other customers complain too - so don't bother with them.

8/10. I went here with a friend when visiting Sydney and we really enjoyed our meals. Would have like bigger portions but we walked away happy. I've had better Japanese but this was in no way bad. Had a good atmosphere and was buzzing with life on a Friday night.

Very Disappointed. Have been to Asakusa twice. The first time was very good, service was good and the food was good. Very different from the second time. We arrived at 6.45pm and 4 of us were still waitng for our mains 1 1/4 hours later. 2 of our party of 6 had received their mains and finished before ours arrived. Other peopl in the restaurant, who came in after us, were getting their meals and finishing while we were still waiting.<br/>We were not asked if we wanted to order drinks, our water glasses were never refilled.<br/>We asked several times about our meals and were told - ready in a minute.<br/>The food was still very good but the service made a birthday celebration very disappointing.<br/>We will think twice about going again!
Sarah
Consistent. I've been going to Asakusa for years, my folk are there probably once a week. The salmon skin rolls are probably one of the best things you'll eat. Seriously, try them. Other highlights are gyoza, agedashi tofu, sesame spinach, and the sushi and sashimi platters.<br/><br/>Service does vary, depending on who serves you. Lucy is lovely and very helpful and warm.
Dnx001
Too expensive for the amount you get.
Reviewer
Great Food but service was poor. Food was good but took forever with 25 minute gaps between each dish. I asked for extra dressing for some side greens and was told it would cost extra. This was annoying since the dish already cost about $38. It's possible that they just didn't like me because they confused my order for a tuna roll for a salmon one and when I sent it back, the sushi chef did not look happy. <br/>If the staff and owner weren't slow, inattentive jerks, I would totally go back!
Joemissu
Terrible.it's not an authentic Japanese restaurant, many staff there are speaking Chinese and trust me,don't go there, find an authentic Japanese restaurant, money should be spent wisely
Tom
Wow the seared salmon is fantastic. Quite small so make a booking before you go.

Charming Place as Asakusa. Asakusa famous for Budhist Temple..and this restaurant Charming as Budha.<br/>After some Nice heavy indian food wanted to go light today and been to this place close to our newly moved place/house. It was authentic as gone by the previous reviews and doesnt hurt your pocket much. Quality Japaneese food and not so premium prices was surprise but met my expectations. <br/>Good Food and good customer service.
Goodie Foodie
On the back of the generally good reviews, we took a punt and travelled across town to give this place a try. Our verdict: Pretty average quality for pretty non average prices. Kaiso (seaweed) salad made with the neon green seaweed you'd typically see at Japanese take aways at the food court, for $9?? Later in the evening we also heard Chinese being spoken by all the staff so we also questioned the authenticity of the place.
Louis
Pretty like it, fresh Sushi & Sashimi, and high quality hot food, we always came ASAKUSA like family restaurant .
Flosblos
A regular haunt. Having been a customer for many years we read with interest other reviews on Asakusa, in particular the "back room" where one diner thought they had been banished. When we have a group booking we often ask to be put in this back room as it is quiet and you get a "private room" without the cost of one. The food is consistently good, fresh and arrives in a timely fashion. They take note of food allergies and never once has an order been taken incorrectly. We love Asakusa and so does everyone we have ever taken there
Frog
I know when I'm not wanted. When you put me in an unappealing back room. You treat me like a fool, and charge me lots. Hot food was disappointing and sushi a mix of very good and not.
Shaun Brady
Fantastic Sushi and Sashimi. Have been a regular since it opened. Staff are friendly and the fresh Sushi and Sashimi is some of the best in Melbourne. I strongly suggest making a booking and not just showing up on the door, as it's always busy.
Molly
Never again. We've been to asakusa a few times before and found it ok. we gave it a second and most recently third try because we wanted to like it (conveniently located for us and other positive reviews). but we're over it now. <br/>service is terrible. <br/>upon our most recent visit we were ignored at the entrance for a good ten minutes while other patrons paid, were given takeaway etc. i understand we have to wait our turn, but there were two staff members at the desk, one standing there doing nothing, and we were not even acknowledged. once we were finally the only people at the desk we asked for a table then we were again ignored for another five minutes, with no indication of what was going on (conversation between staff members). finally we were told the restaurant was fully booked. at 7:45 on a thursday night. with at least half the tables unoccupied. maybe they didn't like the look of us? we asked about takeaway and they laughed. at that point we left. not sure what was going on. previous visits (when we've actually got a table) the food has been ok, but not worth the hassle. our second visit we arrived at 6, were told we had to be gone by 7:30, which is fine, but at 7:30 as we were leaving the restaurant was over half empty. maybe they have huge group bookings at 8pm? <br/>it might be better if you're a regular and they a) acknowledge your presence, b) give you a table and c) don't laugh at you, but with so many other nice restaurants around we certainly won't be going back.

We eat here regularly & always enjoy it. The food is always fresh & beautifully prepared. The staff are friendly. On busy nights the service can be slow, but the quality of the food makes the wait worthwhile. There are Japanese restaurants in the CBD with better decor, but this place has a lovely homely feel makes the diner comfortable. Highly recommended.
JPM
Consistently some of the best Japanese food I've come across in Melbourne, have been a regular for 7 years. My advice, the Sushi, Sashimi and Smaller dishes are best, the mains aren't as interesting. The service is great and the sushi chef is an absolute pro, make sure you watch him preparing the sushi, it's unbelievable. Don't be fooled by the quaint exterior, this is one of Melbourne's best.
PhilYA
Once and once only.. Pretty dissapointing. Took a very long time to take our order. Don't visit here if you have any allergies or an intolerance to certain food, the communication is not great. The sushi/sashimi is the only highlight but not fantastic. All dishes are basically served on bean shoots and not much of them. Could probably do a lot better from packet mixes in our own home. Not going back.
NiCNAC
The only recommendation dish would be anything from the sushi bar. They are fresh and taste great. Apart from that, other dishes were just average...sometimes made me wonder whether they were indeed Japanese dishes. The Nabe was tasteless and was a waste of money since it was so pricy compared to what was served.
Leelee
Excellent food from this busy unpretentious place. Sushi was succulent and so fresh. My 6 yo was fascinated to watch the sushi chef at work (rice on the outside - crazeee!!) will definitely return and would recommend.
Foodlover
We have waited for almost half an hour for our food while the table next to us has finished their sushi and main course, in fact they come later than us.the food is good we enjoy the pork katsu very much altough it might be a bit pricey $18.90

Great local place. Excellent food, nice people, highly recommend sushi and sashimi platter with crispy skin rolls, the eel is the BEST, also the gyoza. Try the japanese plum wine too, it's sweet, served with ice and very refreshing. Cheers.
Braham
Surprisingly Good. We were quickly seated in a small back room which was a little warm and humid even with the aircon going. The four of us shared a large sushi and sushimi platter where the fish was melt in your mouth delicious. Other entrees followed and I had the gyoza which was superb and worth waiting for. My wife had fried eggplant with miso paste which she also enjoyed.<br/>For mains we shared a chicken teriyaki which was moist and juicy with a delicate teriyaki flavour. This was followed by sukiyaki which was prepared at the table and served with a bowl of raw egg. The waitress gave a good explanation of how you were supposed to eat it which included adding some of the sauce to the egg to help cook the egg. This dish was the highlight of the night. The meat was tender and the sauce was absolutely delicious. I could've had another serving, but then my wife would call me a pig. Better to exercise some self control!<br/>Overall really good food served unpretentiously and alot better than some other more expensive Japanese restaraunts that I've tried. Highly recommended.

I do not recommend asakusa. We started with oysters and they were warm and tingled on the tongue. Enough said for that. The main sashimi was good. But after this dish we hit a problem when we wanted a variation on an entree, that they said no to. Which is fine, however when the waiter told the sushi chef who then told a customer and they all laughed about it, we felt pretty uncomfortable. After that our service went down hill and impacted negatively on any positives we could have taken away from the rest of the food. On leaving myself and my partner were polite and this was not reciprocated, we were treated like we did something wrong, we will not return.
Mark From Melbourne
Sushi is always excellent. We tend to stick to smaller dishes as there are so many ones we have enjoyed such as the spinach and black sesame seed salad, whiting tempura, ebi tam maki but our Jake can't go without his Katsu curry.
AJT
Fantastic restaurant! Never too busy, the food is delicious, and you can watch the sushi & sashimi chef prepare it all. Highly reccommend Asakusa to all (especially the gyoza).

Like it alot a bit pricy but worth it GO

Yum!. We were seated quickly (since we had phoned up earlier and made a booking), and were shuffled through the front of the restaurant to a smaller room where there were a few other diners. We were promptly given menus and began trawling through the menu to find out what we should dine on.<br/><br/>Gyoza: They were so fresh, we practically inhaled them and were immediately wanting more. I could eat Gyoza all night every night if I had my way!<br/> <br/>Gyu Tataki: So, so, so delicious! It had an almost prosciutto like flavour to it with the smokiness, and it didn't feel like you were eating raw meat at all. This was probably our second favorite dish after the gyoza.<br/><br/>Ramen: The chef himself brought this out. He was lovely, warning us the bowl was hot and not to touch it. The noodles and broth were very tasty in the miso soup. A nice staple meal to be had in winter.<br/><br/>We left feeling full but not bloated, which we always love when we eat Japanese. We don't feel the need to go for a long walk after dinner to start the digestion process.<br/><br/>The staff were very friendly, service was a little slow but understandable due to the amount of diners in. Not really somewhere that I would say I must go back to but I would without any hesitation.
