I enjoyed my takeaway meal from here. Sashimi was very fresh and tempura was delicious. I also ordered the beef yakinuki stir fry which was a bit average. But overall a decent meal and would order again.
If you love Japanese you will love this place. Their Bento boxes have a huge variety and you can taste the freshness. Service was fantastic and I love how quick the service is. Dipping sauces were just perfect, not too salty like they can be and fish was fresh and packed with flavour. This place deserves another visit soon.
Was craving Japanese food and discovered this spot on EatClub. It's not the best or most authentic Japanese food, but tastes good and is affordably priced (even without the discount). The thin yakisoba are well flavoured and not too oily and full of veg. The tofu don is a bit boring but at least it's clean and relatively light with nice, sweet onions and an egg on top, in the traditional fashion. The nasu dengaku is a great addition to these two dishes.
We keep coming back because each dish is so lovingly prepared and mouth wateringly good. A little dearer than a local competitor but worth it. A cut above.
I used to live in Japan, and I ate out everyday.
I was pleasantly surprised at how authentic the food was here. I ordered the sashimi platter, lobster roll and crab burger.
The sashimi was fresh and very good quality / portions considering the price.
The lobster roll was fantastic, especially good with the flamed salmon topping with Japanese mayonnaise.
The crab burger was the highlight, lightly battered and fresh with the perfect accompaniment of pickled vegetables and crispy bun.
My only regret is that I didn’t discover this place sooner.
Prices very reasonable.
The food feels almost inconsequential at the point of writing this review- it was decent; no real standouts. It was the unbelievably attentive service from the waitstaff who served us just overshadowed anything else that night. Granted, there wasn't many tables to wait on, but I don't believe I've seen anyone with such enthusiasm for their work. Ambience was nice too
really recommend this restaurant . delicious food and kind staff. everything is perfect. really like soft crab burger and tempura at Asakusa 😀
The appearance from the exterior would suggest otherwise, but this quaint, family-run operation on Waverley Road packs a very strong punch. Established in 2002 they have developed a strong reputation. Guests are packed in very tightly so this makes for quite a noisy experience, but the key here is to just talk louder than the other patrons.
Our favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Teriyaki beef, fried chicken, yakitori and tempura prawns are standouts. Love the ambience it's a really comfortable restaurant with great staff.
Favourite Japanese for a special dinner. Food priced as expected for Japanese and restaurant fit out is okay, but nothing flash. Salmon skin rolls and deep fried flounder are personal favourites. All sushi and sashimi prepared by someone who knows what they're doing, so be prepared to wait a little for your servings if the place is full when you walk in. Service is good and drinks are affordable. Good variety of Japanese drinks available.
June 2019 update: Looks like this place has changed hands. We went for dinner recently and it was okay, but not the great place it used to be. Shame, means we have to find another special Japanese Restaurant...Oh well, it will be fun looking!
Been here a few times with my family and we always love it. Feels very traditional, and has not changed much since when I went with my grandparents when I was much younger. Staff are always so respectful and nice and due to its smaller size you seating will feel very intimate which I really like. Good prices for what you’re getting and an array of options on the menu, both food and drinks.

We had a very enjoyable meal at Asakusa. Attentive staff in a warm and inviting space. So many standout dishes it's difficult to pick a favourite but the sushi & sashimi platter was particularly delicious and eye-catching.
It must be said, the menu is a little overwhelming but the specials were affordable and helped guide our choices. We look forward to returning!

New owners/chef Jerry doing a great job improving this long, established Japanese restaurant. It's my local and I come here 3 or 4 times each month. Little by little improvements are being made. Decor, crockery, signage, general cleanliness etc. Service is great, very friendly and efficient by Alex, shandy and the others.
Food is outstanding, especially Shashimi which is always very fresh and beautifully presented. Traditional dishes like sushi, agadashi tofu, tempura are all very good and supplimented by Jerry's imaginative specials.
Keep improving Asakusa. We will keep coming to enjoy the experience.
