Chun Po Chinese Restaurant - Malvern
Combination Curry Laksa
CRIKEY it is cold in Melbourne right now. Antarctic conditions mean you gotta warm up and that means downing that warm broth and giving yourself a nice laksa blanket.
Chun Po is in Malvern, Right near the station there for ease of access. Somehow while I was doing my daily soup research I noticed these absolute legends had a deal going - $9 for a Laksa and a drink, Well gee whizz phone up the Victorian police because that’s a god damn steal! I called up my SOUP SQUAD aka @foodclub_aus and @bensonaus and they picked me up in their Brothmobile and we drove straight for this Laksa.
Being delivered to our tables were three piping hot bowls of the gods nectar itself. First impressions were good. Vegetables ✔️ Tofu Puffs ✔️ Couple of Prawns ✔️ Eggplant ✔️ Egg that is an egg not a plant ✔️ Chicken ✔️ All the makings of a great laksa. We also had 2 types of noodles. A very very strong requirement for a high rating Laksa. All of the above was cooked well, loved the addition of fried shallots, always adds a nice murky aroma. Personally I felt the broth could have been a little bit more pungent, even after adding some Sambal it was lacking the flavour hit that you want from a bowl of laksa. It was good don’t get me wrong but maybe a bit too much coconut and not enough curry + spices right here. This is a steal, i’m constantly finding that in a lot of these suburbs the lunch deals are a straight up steal. When I call the police about this god dang daylight robbery of a bargain i’ll also be telling them to try this laksa too! This is now #2 of top Laksa’s in the inner south east for me. Second only to the Laksa god’s - Ipoh Parade on High Street.

Had a very nice Laksa here today...attentive staff...worth a visit if you enjoy Laksa. Good Coconut Broth, curry flavour...eggplant....and king Prawns
Stopped by for a quick lunch. Ordered the soft shell crab laksa and it came out from the kitchen within 2 minutes of ordering! Wish the laksa was a bit more spicy or there was the option of adding more chilli.
Best laksa I've ever had! The broth was so strong and flavorful but not too spicy. I seldom finish the laksa soup (because it's greasy and spicy) but this one was too yum to resist. Besides the seafood was quite fresh. I believe they pay attention to the details because even the thickness of Hokkien noodles was just right, not too soggy as some laksa I've tried before. Would definitely go back for another bowl of yummy laksa!
our new favorite place for dinner. friendly service, clean, yummy, attentive and generous in portion and affordable price, kids friendly . my son loving his fish fillet. place a bit hidden but found by zomato and so lucky we found them. would recommend.
Close to train station. Clean environment, Big proportion serve , good service . laksas are Very yummy, especially the fish head and Seafood combination. Highly recommended.
Tasty king prawn soup. Large portion and very good value for money. Second time I have ordered a Laska from the place. Haven't tried their other dishes yet.
Even if the ambient could be a little more attractive, I am giving full marks to this place. The food is really nice, well cooked and presented. The service is prompt and attentive and BYO is free of charge. I had, beside other courses, the best salted fish noodles and tamarind duck I have had in this country. I will centainly be back and I definitely recommend this restaurant, which seems to have unfortunately close since the beginning of December. Why?
Great service and great food. We had the honey chicken and the beef and black bean, they were both delicious. I highly recommend trying out this restaurant.
Had a team lunch here and it was amazing! Such high quality food and I was craving honey chicken all week - they didn't disappoint!
Highly recommend visiting, you won't leave hungry and great service!
