Tonic and Grace has easily made my 5 star list of places breakfast, brunch and lunch! Was absolutely blown away by the unique and modern menu and my meal was nothing short of amazing! One stand out highlight was requesting a side of crispy bacon and actually getting a side of CRISPY bacon . I will definatly be back soon Tonic & Grace, you can count on it!

We popped in for a healthy brunch at Tonic & Grace on a glorious sunny long weekend Saturday morning. We last visited nearly 2 years ago and were keen to check out how the menu had evolved and also the chilled out courtyard out back.

With the primary focus on healthy food options for eating out, this cafe nails the brief. Not only was the food super healthy, it was also pretty as a picture and was backed up by flavour. Vegans will be spoilt for choice as most items were vegan or could be made vegan without much effort.

Drinks wise we were treated to a well extracted skinny latte and I tried a Hydration Tonic which contained cucumber aloe vera coconut water and mint. This was my first time trying aloe vera and I expected it to be much worse than it actually tasted... there that’s my endorsement!

We also tried the T&G beetroot booster super latte with almond milk and this was fabulous, not too sweet snd a touch of beetroot earthiness, perfect coffee alternative.

We ordered the Protein Plate which came with poached eggs, free range bacon, light textured sweet potato waffles, a giant delicious meaty mushroom, wonderful wilted spinach and tasty smokey housemade  beans.  A big breakfast but with a healthier waistline.

Our Breakfast of Champions smoothie bowl was delicious, the frozen banana and mango base a great combo of flavours and the crunchy puffed rice and granola a wonderful crunch.  The inclusion of peanut butter bringing in a lovely depth of flavour and texture, topped off with fresh seasonal fruit and lemon balm, perfection. Any smoothie on the menu can we made into a smoothie bowl for a little bit extra.

Its always great to experience a cafe which differentiates itself and Tonic & Grace do just that with their healthy and mostly vegan friendly dishes. Thanks to Leah and the team for their hospitality.

We had the pleasure of being invited to dine at Tonic & Grace this morning located at the Malvern end of Glenferrie Road. The sunny cafe frontage greeted us and the inside was just as welcoming with a loving wood grain share table right in the front of the indoor dining. Your outdoor dining options were out front or in the rear courtyard which has a lot of future potential.

The menu is actually one of the healthiest I have seen on offer with a huge range of juices and tonics, smoothie bowls and interesting largely GF or vegan based dishes. Cafe owner Leah, has a strong backgroup in catering as well as being quite the foodie and noticed that people are eating out more and more she wanted to offer heathy alternatives so people can comfortably eat out without compromising on a healthy diet.

We had coffees (Red star coffee) with lactose free milk available and I also tried the Blue Moon tonic which was subtle on sweetness but packed full of great flavours from blueberries, pear, pineapple and coconut water.

I ordered the Amazonia smoothie in a bowl and loved how chilled this smoothie was when it came out. This style of açai bowl is often my go to for a healthy breakfast and this was was a super flavoursome example.

KD was feeling like something savoury today so chose the poke bowl which was fully vegan if not for the addition we made of a poached egg (with a delicious gooey run). This bowl contained home made pickled vegetables, duo mushrooms, edamame, nori, mayo all on a brown rice. It certainly was hearty even without protein but I loved the addition of egg that we made.

We loved the crockery that food was served on and the locals eating here seemed to be relaxing into their Sunday and taking the time to sit and read their newspapers or tap away on their laptops. All seemed easy.

Thanks so much for having us.

The food at this cafe is AMAZING!! We decided to try here because of our Zomato Gold membership, but would keep going back regardless. Everything on the menu is gluten free or has the option to be, and there are plenty of vegan & vegetarian options too. Everything was delicious - the food, drinks, all of it!! Do yourself a favour & check out this fabulous cafe!!

Visited Tonic & Grace over the weekend and we had a lovely experience.

The staff are super friendly and proactive. You can tell it gets busy over the weekend because the team look like they know what they’re doing.

Coffee was fantastic and the matcha latte was smooth. We were so surprised to find nearly everything on the menu was either vegan or gluten free - it was a wholefood inspired menu but tasted like normal delicious brunch food. Our favourite was the real earth bowl but we were also impressed by the dark chocolate and pea protein pancakes.

Very tasty food and reasonably healthy. I enjoyed eating the chocolate pancakes and while the chocolate ganache sauce was sweet, the rest was not, making it a good combination.

NOTE: if you use Zomato Gold, they consider add-ons like $5.50 chicken as a separate dish as opposed to other restaurants which would add that to the final price of one dish - so you end up paying more for 1+1 food compared to elsewhere.

Ordered the Mariachi Bowl with added poached chicken and the Protein Plate. Service is very friendly and relatively quick - no fuss.

Mariachi bowl’s highlights were the guac and beans, however with regards to everything else it was a pretty standard Mexican bowl. The rice was typical, not overloaded with flavour, sweet corn added a small layer of sweetness, but the dish would benefit from more freshness of tomato (minimal) and of a consistent crunch element (corn chips do play this role, but are more difficult to portion throughout the meal’s bites).

Partner had the protein plate which was generous in serving and apparently the sweet potato waffle was crispy and tasted great. Lots of great bacon, eggs were poached well, but the pea purée was lacking in much flavour variety - very standard mashed peas which weren’t the best to integrate with the other flavours.

Overall a great place for a Malvern brunch and prices are reasonable.

Came here in the morning for brunch on a Saturday morning.
For 2 we ordered:

- Captain Gillenstalk: this dish was a great combination of crunchy and smooth textures. The different types of mushroom were packed full of flavour, the pumpkin toast was something I’ve never tried before, but was a pleasant experience. The pine nuts also added an amazing crunchy element to the dish, adding a nutty hint to the dish. The cashew cream was nice and creamy and definitely completed the dish! We added the roasted tomatoes, which was so juicy and jam packed full of flavour (in the pictures the tomatoes are on the other dish).

- Protein plate: this dish reminded me of the typical “big breakfast” at other cafes. It’s a nice combination of meat, protein and veggies. Two standout on the dish was definitely the sweet potato waffles, which were incredibly soft and fluffy, slightly sweet from the sweet potato. The other standout was the mushrooms. It had an amazing taste and was definitely our favourite part of the dish. Other than those two, the rest of the dish was pretty typical and not much to fault.

Drinks wise we ordered the Choc mint and Tumeric latte. The choc mint hot chocolate tasted really nice and definitely had a minty taste to it, which didn’t disappoint. The tumeric latte is definitely a hit or a miss for different people. It was bland but weirdly spicy at the same time, if you enjoy drinking chai latte, maybe give this latte a try as it is a bit similar.

Overall, it’s a nice cafe in Malvern and will probably come back to try other dishes.

Nice cafe. The egg benedict is really nice. The mocha is a bit too bitter and taste slightly ‘sour’ to my liking. The “okonomiyaki” is not as special as I thought it would be (after reading the review). But I can see myself coming back again!
