This place is the shiznit. We eat here at least once a week. Slowly working through the menu but everything so far has been amazing. My gfs a massive fan of Wonton noodle soup and says theirs is the best she's had in Melbourne. Eat here asap!
We had a wonderful experience dining here tonight. (We came in just after 8pm when it was quiet.) The ambience was relaxing and the service was prompt. Staff were also friendly and accomodating. Considering that we used to go to the branch in Richmond before it closed down, this one serves generous portions for the same price.
We ordered the ‘pork gwa bao’ which consisted of two fluffy bao buns - a big piece of fresh cucumber in each, a chunk of braised pork belly and what I assume to be the Chinese sour vegetable a.k.a suan cai (which we were not fans of - more of an acquired taste for some, I think). We also ordered the ‘Taiwanese style beef noodle soups’ which were delicious but just had a little too much fat in the beef itself. I’d still come back here for this noodle soup, as the herbal broth was well balanced, and the ingredients overall were pleasant. The restaurant ran out of pearls for the ‘original pearl milk tea’ and the ‘matcha pearl milk tea’ so we replaced them with mango jelly instead. They still worked. Fresh and sweet would be the words I’d describe them. NOTE: Kitchen closes at 9.30pm.
So glad to have discovered this place! We returned 2 weekends in a row. Food has a very home made flavour and not overly salty, so you don’t get that fast Asian food feeling. They have a gluten free section of the menu. The staff are lovely and the ambiance is just right for this kind of casual dining. Will be back.
Our go to.place for a quick stir fry or pad thai. Portions a great, they never skimp on the seafood or chicken and always tastes fresh, service is quick.
Fabulous food! We always get takeaway from here at least once a week. The teriyaki beef stir fry is delicious as is the Gllow fried rice. Excellent portions and great value for money.
Delicious, excellent service and super quick. One of our favourite eat outs. Salt and Pepper chicken ribs amazing and must have mango pudding.
A nice banquet meal. But upon reflection there is nothing that was outstanding about the meal, and a couple of weeks later I cannot remember any particular course. :-(
Tried the one in richmond than here, i think the food here are better but portion wise were smaller, service was good and friendly and they do whatever to make us happy and satisfied.
Overall happy and will be back.
Went here with a Groupon for a 7 course meal. Total paid was 45 so excellent value, left the restaurant stuffed. The drinks were a satisfying size and well prepared (pearls were a bit chewy). The sampled mains (3 cup chicken, salt and pepper chicken ribs and green chicken curry) were tasty and well portioned for 2. Rice was well cooked. Wasn’t a massive fan of the dessert (mango pudding). Lovely, nice staff who were very accommodating. Would return with another coupon.
I like this Thaiwanese eatery place, they cook simple dishes but flavoursome. It also price affordable. Their lunch special menu has good range of foods selections. My fave is deep fried chicken wings. Their chef special tofu menu also nice. But for green curry chicken, they used instant green curry paste, feel a bit cheated as when you go restaurant, you expected to get fresh foods not from instant paste. Overall is good, i have been back several times.
Delicious food and great service! We had the chicken ribs, pork ribs and black bean beef: all super tasty. Highly recommend, we will be back!
Went here for a Sunday lunch with 6 of my friends! Tried the lunch box bento deal: $15 for rice, main dish, 2 side dishes, and a drink of your choice (lemon tea, soda, or bottled water).
The deal was superb! We really got the best value for the amount of money we spent!
My friends got the Main of Popcorn Chicken and XXL Chicken (which they are famous for). It tasted really good to them!
As I am a pescatarian( I eat fish and veggies, no other meat), I could only order the main of Stir-Fried Veggies and Tofu, which tasted really good!
They used to have the main of fish fillet, but not anymore (sigh, i used to love it).
Place was okay, nothing too fancy, but it was clean.
Bottomline: Will definitely go back!
Great Taiwanese food in the area. Had the popcorn chicken bento set and sizzling tofu special which was yum. Had the chicken ribs the last time which was really yum too. Would definitely come back to try more dishes!! Great value. The staff are really friendly and are happy to accommodate for dietary if required or special order with the noodles i.e. If you just want vermicelli noodles for their noodle dishes. Very welcoming atmosphere.
Love the chicken ribs. Love the Udon Noodles. Love the Dry noodles. I'm a regular, at least once a week and cannot say how delicious it all is.
The food in general is pretty good that it gives you a longing to go back and explore other dishes from the menu. I've only had the XXL crispy chicken bento and all I can say that the portion is massive for a single serving and it is very satisfying! My only problem is that it's a bit hard to get a car park around the area during peak hours.
I love their Taiwanese crispy Popcorn chicken bento box. I find the taste, quality and quantity are better than Ding Tai Fung's. The bento box is also of great value. I have to say the Taiwanese Popcorn chicken is by far the most authentic that I can find in Melbourne. I would definitely go back for more.
Delicious and pretty authentic Taiwanese food that does delivery as well. Loved the crispy chicken chops! Will definitely come back again :)
Had the popcorn chicken bento box for lunch. Good value for money. I loved it but the chicken was a bit dry. Keen to go back another day to try all the other yummy dishes on offer.
My rating and review comes from the perspective as a takeaway customer only, I unfortunately have not yet had the privilege of dining in.
Gllow is an affordable Asian/Taiwanese restaurant with many healthy and filling options on the menu. One of my favourites is the lemon chicken and rice and the crispy sweet potatoes.
For the most part my meals from this restaurant have been quite consistent in both quality and flavour, however admittedly the last time I ordered from Gllow the portions appeared to have halved. Perhaps it was just one of those nights where ingredients may have been lacking in the kitchen.
I will most likely try a dine in experience in the near future with my partner, especially if we're craving Asian in the next few months.
Ordered chicken fried rice, spring onion pancake, popcorn chicken, glow box with chicken ribs. Food was ok. Everything tasted ok, nothing too special. But the bubble tea was really good, ordered normal milk tea and green tea matcha with ice cream. Apart from that this is one of the places with ample seating and was not too crowded even on a Friday night. I personally enjoy places that are quite yet attentive so the higher rating otherwise it would be a 3.
We had a super meal here. We thought that the 3 cup chicken was particularly good. The service was excellent too. We intend returning with some friends!
Compare with the first time I had meal there, it becomes less tasty. I love the oyster noodle there, but this time it was too salty even I add so much vinegar.. But the chicken pop corn is so good!
Recently found this hidden gem tucked away around the corner of Glenferrie Rd. I've been to their Richmond branch many times in the past. Never knew they opened another one with a nicer seating and decor. Very friendly and professional staff. Service, presentation, and drinks are definitely better than the Richmond one; however, drinks portion is inconsistent and can sometimes be smaller than the Richmond one. I was disappointed with my beef noodle soup. The beef was not tender and soup had no depth. Would definitely take guests here because of the decor but food wise, I would go to the Richmond one myself.
XXL chicken. It's all about the chicken. Popcorn chicken. Yum. Oyster mee sua was a little sandy (yeah, sandy!), and I mentioned this to the server as we were leaving. Hopefully they take more care in washing the oysters next time. Bubble tea was GREAT and served up in in a cute little pitcher. Yes, the highlight was the chicken. We will be back to try other dishes...
Gllow has been a bit of a local secret although it seems to be getting busier and busier all the time. It serves consistently good Taiwanese food at very reasonable prices. The pop corn chicken in particular is perfectly fried - not too oily or too salty. The bento boxes are good value, and the tofu side dish is absolutely divine. The portions are very generous too. The menu includes a number of interesting Taiwanese street food that is hard to find in Australia. We think the restaurant would do even better if it serves Taiwanese breakfast, as we know many of our friends travel specifically to Sunny Cafe in Springvale just to have Taiwanese breakfast. The decor of the restaurant is modern and pleasant - it's definitely one of the best restaurants in Malvern!
Given the area it's located in and the lack of proper Asian restaurants open during lunch hour, the food is decent and affordable.
I've tried the lunch specials which are usually about $10-$12 that consist of food items such as teriyaki beef/chicken on rice, udon noodles, lemon chicken on rice, etc. and also the three cup chicken box ($13) which comes with spring rolls, salad and rice.
The milk tea at $5 doesn't come with pearls, which is an extra $0.50.
Food is value, but the drinks, not so much.
Love their popcorn chicken and other offerings. Highly recommended.
The food is Taiwanese but I'm not sure it is all typically Taiwanese as a lot of the dishes seemed Japanese or Malaysian. However, what we ordered was super tasty and good portions, great value.
Service was friendly and fast. You can pay with credit card.
Worth a try if you're after something slightly different and want an Asian style meal. Very tasty!
Good experience last night at this place. Loved the laksa soup and popcorn chicken for starters followed by stir fried veggies in garlic sauce. Staff were friendly too.
Tucked away down one of the side streets, away from the busy tram laden Glenferrie Rd is Gllow, a little restaurant that serves pretty authentic Taiwanese food (or so my friend claims) . Conveniently located a few shops from Malvern station, the establishment is but only one train stop away from Monash University, Caulfield. Among the international students living locally Gllow, has become quite a popular little hot spot for dinner after class or a good late feed after a night of studying.
Yum yum yum! Popcorn chicken is full of flavour and so much of it for the price. Beef noodles to die for - again a very large serve of fresh, tender meat and the teriyaki chicken beats the posh teppan houses by far! Staff are very helpful and friendly. Cheap beer and decor is modern and chic.
Wow...wish I'd known about this place earlier.
Dumplings, popcorn chicken and spring onion pancakes were all cooked to perfection, and full of flavor. Also had a noodle dish which was just as good. Plenty of iced teas available which is a bonus. Highly recommended!
The popcorn chicken is amazing! Drinks are super fun and sweet. Sweet potato chips are a must. The boxes are great value and satay also very good. There's seemingly a different beer on sale every week... Haha.
I love the three cups chicken and oyster meesua! Classic Taiwanese dish done right, so delicious. I also love the chicken ribs and popcorn chicken. The seafood fried rice is nice too. I usually order the bento box for delivery, I find it very good value for money and the portions generous. The original milk tea is great, I always order it with my meal. Cannot comment about dine-in service since I always order for delivery, but the food is consistently good!
Delicious!. Great food and they have a good selection of vegetarian dishes, friendly staff who are happy to accommodate requests. Favorites are the Veg noodle soup, Veg bento box, and fried keow taow Veg.
Really enjoyed our meal at Gllow. Asked waiter for recommendations and ended up with popcorn chicken, pork dumplings, wasabi prawns and three cup chicken, all delicious - fried chicken not at all oily. Would recommend.
WOW! Best Taiwanese in the south east!. Because I have a partner who is of Taiwanese heritage, I have seen and tasted it all! The good, the bad and the downright ugly. Usually we have to travel to Box Hill or Glen Waverley to see this sort of quality at a Taiwanese restaurant, but not anymore :) I can't praise the food and the staff here highly enough. Everything you order is cooked to perfection, and is spot on. Authentic Taiwanese street food. Decor is lacklustre and a bit "cold", but the staff make you feel warm and welcome, and there are a couple of nook style tables that are perfect for couples. Location is extremely convenient, just across from Malvern station with plenty of parking in the evening. The prices are a standout. They charge less for an XXL chicken box, than what they charge you for a single piece of XXL chicken at other places, and the piece of chicken is twice as big! Big variety of dishes to choose from. Drinks are a bit hit and miss depending on what you order, but worth a try. If you are in the area, you seriously need to check this place out! :D Well worth it!
Really Consistent Tasty Cheapeats. One of my favourite asian restaurants in Melbourne. Don't be bothered by the lack of customers you see in there. All the food is still really fresh, I've been there about 7 times and the place hasn't disappointed me once.
Give it a try
Cheap and good taiwanese!. Whenever i'm craving for Taiwanese food, I would always think about gllow. I chanced upon gllow on urbanspoon and decided to try it out with my friends. Even on a friday, you can find seats for more than 4 person. So we ordered, oyster mee sua, XXL crispy chicken and beef noodles and all of it tasted good! Esp the crispy chicken which was really worth the price that i paid for. There's another branch in Richmond but i personally liked the one in Malvern more, probably cause of the store size and environment even though both places taste the same.
One piece of advise when ordering the oyster mee sua, is to just go for the big bowl. The big bowl is so much more worth it because the size difference is really huge by just adding a few more bucks.
Very impressive! Excellent service and the food presentation was better than the photos on the menu. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends...it has an authentic Oriental feel to it!
Great food - great value. Eaten here a few times now and never disappointed. Serves are very generous and very tasty! Love the salt and pepper chicken and the vegetable soup. Friendly staff and prompt service - what more can you ask for?
Enormous serves and great value for money. Popcorn chicken and crispy fish bento boxes were our choices of the day. We really could have shared one box as the serves are enormous. Fresh orange juice also terrific value served in an enormous glass. Can't wait to work my way through this menu. Beautiful space made out of the old pine furniture shop that was located here for decades! Total bill $36 with doggie bag to enjoy later. What a great addition to Malvern
Really great simple menu. True to Taiwanese flavours. Loved the oyster pancake!!! Great value for money menu. Definitely will come back.
I have nothing but compliments for Gllow Cafe. Their food is amazing, tasty and generous. I've tried most dishes on the menu and they are all very delicious. My personal favourite is the crispy chicken Bento box.Their delivery service is also very prompt and efficient - always within 30-45 minutes. Wait staff are also friendly and efficient. Again.... Nothing but compliments for this place.
Like I'm back in the night market of taipei or keelung.. This place was great, food was so delicious I really didn't think I'd get to taste food like this again until I visited taiwan again! I'll be back again and again. try the oyster pancake. awesome!
Delicious fresh food and they were so accommodating of our 9 month old. We'll be back :)
Mother flipping awesome! So tasty and light, not oily at all. The box is so nicely put together, the perfect meal.
Good service, great food. Not much else need be said :)
Delicious food - oyster mee sua, oyster pancake, wasabi prawns, roti rolls. it will have been a much better dining experience if the waitress had helped to refill our water. ie. we were only given a glass of water each.
Second Location! Yay!. Thanks for coming to Malvern. Love your bento in Richmond. Popcorn chicken all the way. Staff are friendly and always happy. Welcome to Malvern!
this was a great dinner and full after this.
love the Braised pork belly (滷肉飯), so flavourful, so tender, the sauce are perfect with the steam rice. three cup chicken taste great. fried rice are pretty nice, Mee Sua was alright, they served with fried Oyster and no Coriander.
a little bit of sad. but love the bubble milk tea, pretty refreshing
A succlent Taiwanese / Malaysian meal tucked away along the train tracks. As many reviewers have mentioned servings are generous with warm and friendly service.
XXL Chicken Chop a highlight as are the Golden King Prawns.
Will be back to sample more
This is an incredible restaurant. Great for lunch and dinner! Really good lunch deals, very friendly kind staff!! Very good portions, nice clean place, freshly made delicious food! Thank you for always being so nice! Definitely a must visit. The salt and pepper calamari is the most delicious calamari I have ever had anywhere! It is amazing!!!!! Everything on their menu is delicious, everything!
This place is a hidden gem. It’s a casual restaurant that serves some great Malaysian and Taiwanese dishes. If you love butter prawns (KL style), look no further. Extremely fragrant egg yolk fried in butter with curry leaves. Their special golden tofu (fried egg tofu) has a nice wok hei, XXl fried chicken crunchy and tasty and their fried dumplings juicy. Also special mention orh ah me sua 台湾蚵仔面线 (didn’t take a photo but it was delish).
It’s doggy friendly if you sit out the front, and the corkage is very reasonable $3/pp
Very friendly owner to boot!
Very impressed with the taste and quality of the food. The portion sizes were very generous. Very good value for money!
Food is good but it’s just very Malaysian not Taiwanese.
Ordered Taiwanese rice noodle and a couple of things that on the menu said was Taiwanese but the flavor is not at all. Highly suggested to take off “Taiwanese” on certain dishes as the flavor is completely different than the real Taiwanese flavor.
Superb food! Great pricing! I go to Malvern frequently but never noticed this restaurant bcos it is tucked away on Station Street. We ordered the basil chicken, guiness ribs n home made tofu. They r all awesome. Not overly sweet or salty. Will definitely go back again. Highly recommeded!
