Review Patisserie Jin - Malvern

Love this dessert place. For anyone who would like to experience authentic Korean cafe, looking for a very private and relaxing place during weekdays, this one is highly recommended. If you don’t have a sweet tooth, be sure to mention that to the owner as most of the things are quite sweet.

Patisserie Jin was satisfying, it has incredible potential to be known to everyone. The service was great and the wall art is a lovely touch. I would recommend maybe to focus in only having windows desserts made daily because they had amazing taste and texture. We were a little disappointed in the dine in menu as display desserts were exceptional. Patisserie Jin has that nostalgic feeling when we visited a dessert restaurant called Hidemi Sugino in Japan.

Amazing cakes from this place! Soft, smooth, not too sweet absolutely mouth watering delicious sweet potato cake with lovely elegant decorations on top for a birthday. Couldn't fault them in any way! Quick responses through messenger is also helpful

The cakes and desert here are heavenly. The cakes are light and not overly sweet. A hidden little gem of a place, highly recommend trying their cakes and desert!

I never leave reviews on google maps but this place was special. I thought desserts were just something ladies went to get to socialise after a meal. But this experience changed my perspective. Special thanks to the pastry chef at Patisserie Jin. I’m going to cater my wedding cake from here in the future.

Love Patisserie Jin! The ladys here are so friendly and welcoming and the desserts and drinks are to die for! I would definitely recommend the V&T Crepes with home made ice cream and the Strawberryade is just devine! My favourite desert bar in adelaide!!

Nice presentation ... lovely deserts available ... I only trialled the strawberry macarrons ... there are average - too sugary too little fruit but I judge to laduree macarron standard...

Strawberry and chocolate. Love this place

I love this place! Everything they serve looks so pretty, and is equally delicious. The watermelon lemonade and the chocolate lava cake are just perfect. It's a small place, but the tables are well spaced if you're needing room for a pram.

Small spot that doesnt stand out when driving past but is worth a visit. Variety of cakes, sweets and desserts. Some vietnamese sweets and coffee.
I Only Eat Desserts
It’s taken me a while (try 4 years) but I’ve finally been to Patisserie Jin. Usually if I’m around that area I would have just gone to Steven Ter Horst or down to Eggless. However, I found myself really struggling to find things open on Tuesday. 4 places that we had planned to go to dinner on Tuesday were closed – I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten out on a Tuesday before :s

If you like Japanese matcha green tea as much as I do, try their green tea creme brulee! They don't skimp on green tea goodness here. This dessert is accompanied by a chewy red bean biscuit slice. My partner's savoury dish was average but it wasn't why we came in anyway. Other dessert looking items on display also look delicious, and they make birthday and wedding cakes to order.

We were the only customers there on a Friday night so it was a nice quiet place to sit and chat over some nice desserts. The green tea creme brulee was good and definitely worth a try. Their juices are really something to try too, especially the watermelon one.

Nice dessert place situated at unley. Close to city and close to all shopping areas on unley. The shop has cakes and dessert to dine in for and takeaway. They have signature apple tartin, crepes and etc. the fruit drinks and coffee are gorgeous there. They mainly do a lot of cakes order. Special decorations order. A lot of Jin's cake is mousse based and they are absolutely yummy - every single flavour. The staffs and owner is very kind, polite and understanding, they takes feedback very well - which is why there are more sponge cake base of cake as well now. The black forest cake is so so good. I had this cake for my birthday this year. Another three of my favourites would have to be potato cake, pumpkin cake and green tea cake. I'm so surprised when I have the pumpkin cake for the first time, I never thought it tasted so so good. Highly recommend to try their cake. With ordering occasions cake please put through the order way early to avoid disappointment as they gets super busy. To top it off, there's some really soothing and happy music while you feed your sweet tooth. Highly recommend.

I ordered the fondant, it was quite delicious. My favourite part was the vanilla bean icecream it had a rich vanilla taste, creamy, lovely icecream all in all. Note that the apple tartin is the dessert in the restaurant that doesn't have egg, and I don't believe that there are any dairy free offerings.

Unfortunately we weren't overly impressed. The complimentary biscuits that came out were a nice touch however the desserts were disappointing. I had the creme brûlée which was very small, only half a small ramiken. Way too small for the price. The consistency was like scrambled eggs, not a good brûlée unfortunately.. It was served with two wafers most likely from a packet and a very rich cream that was too sweet with the brûlée. It didn't really work. Plus it took a long time to come out and I'm not sure why, it was all straight from the fridge, just a bit of blow torching the top of the brûlée. My boyfriend had the apple tartin which was a bit better but nothing special. The ice cream was nice on the side. Sorry but I won't rush back.

Simply lovely - from lighting, deco, music, to coffee and desserts, everything is wonderful. It is like a dream, or perhaps better than dreaming !

Looks good, flavour not there.

Possible place for dessert...... I have read many mixed reviews on Jin and they tend to be quite polarized, ie, either love it or hate it. However, when we were there, the overall experience was fine.

The service was adequate, nothing brilliant and staff had sufficient English to understand my orders. Being a Korean-run place, the staff were Korean.

The desserts were certainly eye-catching and flavours were obvious and true to menu descriptors. Admittedly, the prices were on the high side and perhaps the creator of the products may be getting a bit ahead of herself regarding the quality and attraction of her wares.

In all, a pleasant enough evening nosh on dessert but I'm not sure that I would make a special trip to return to Jin.
World In A Bite
Greentea cake and cheesecakes were yummy. Other cakes were too sweet and jelly like! Yuck! I don't like the jelly feeling! :/ ... Decoration was nice.

Expensive, tasteless .. And the cakes were soooo dry ... Could have made a better cake with packet mix

Nice Decor, pity about the dismal Service. OK... so desserts may not be the most expensive thing, however as a paying customers I would hope to be treated with a little bit of consideration. The service at this place is dreadful. I won't be going back EVER! I live in Unley, but I prefer to go to Norwood to The Aviary, despite having this place closer, because they treat me nicely.

I'd been wanting to try it for a while. It was nice but not spectacular. Lacked the extra special element that the aviary, au matin calme or eggless offer

WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE IN TOWN. Been there a couple of times and they are ok if you aren't using the voucher. The chubby lady at front counter was rude when I approached her with the jumponit voucher. I wasn't allowed to use the voucher as I was told that I didn't make a booking on a quiet Thursday night. Very arrogant business as they posted on their facebook page warning (which sounds like screaming at) ALL of their customers to not steal their cutleries. The cakes are ok, nothing special. Would recommend Aviary Dessert Kitchen instead for their quality dessert and exceptional customer service.

Poor service I ever had!!!

Same thing happened to me with the jump on it voucher! I went on a fri night and called first to make a booking, they told me they don't take bookings on weekends... I turn up with 2 full paying other customers and they wouldn't let me use the voucher! They said it's in the rules. After showing the manager all the 'rules' I could see on my voucher and there not being anything about using the voucher on the weekend they finally gave in and let me use it. They also told me that the others that were dining with me had to order desserts! (which they were going to anyway)They wernt allowed to just have coffee!! I was not happy with this service, I felt very annoyed! The overpriced desserts were OK but I will never return.

Dislike from the first phone call. Can I just say, we have a voucher that we bought from Jump on It. Nowhere on the voucher does it specify that it can not be used on specific days. It only says that you need to make a booking beforehand. So I called to make a booking, and they say that they do not take bookings on Thurs-Sundays.
So I said, that's fine, we will just come and wait for a table. Their reply was that I can not use my voucher without a booking. So the bottom line is that you can only use your voucher on certain days. ridiculous.

Worst customer service by far. Thank you for the terrible customer service I received last night at Patisserie Jin. Although I may have been using a jumponit voucher I don't believe that means you can then treat customers with such a rude and inappropriate attitude. Just to warn other possible jumponit users that you don't have a choice of desserts as I would think a crème brulee is classified a dessert yet they didn't want to honour that. They're arguments were that the crème brulee is too expensive (price is $13.50 which is $1.50 more than other desserts) and the total value should equate to $34 value (even though they said you could have 2 other desserts at $12 each and 2 drinks at $6.50 each it still goes over the $34 value). Also be warned that if they're not happy with you then they will speak to each other in another language so you can't understand but you definitely know it's about you. Another warning which I'm sure other people would have experienced is that you can't use the voucher unless you make a booking and the catch is, you can only make bookings for Monday to Wednesday. Maybe they could have written that on the conditions of the voucher? Just a thought. But still be prepared to hear an earful if you do call and make a booking and when you get there they accuse you of not making a booking. I guess you can understand they're frustration as they are so busy with empty tables on a Tuesday night.

A final thank you to the lady who swore the "F" word whilst we were walking out the door. The professionalism as you can see is of a very low standard here.

Neither Yay nor Nay. There has been a lot of attention to detail. Perhaps in some cases, a little too much giving it a somewhat clinical feel.

I personally have never seen so much branding/self promotion all over the shop, even the "staff only" sign on the doorway has a 'Jin Patisserie' sticker on it!

It appears evident that so much time, effort and no doubt money has gone into creating a brand. But this unfortunately makes it blatantly obvious which parts of the decor has been introduced by the owner herself eg: the tacky laminated pieces of paper strewn across the top of her beautiful cabinets does them little justice.

I had skipped lunch as was looking for something savory to eat so I had the chicken pie. For $12 I was a little reluctant as I didn't want to spoil my dinner with a large meal. But as it turns out the pie was nothing more than 2 squares of puff pasty with a little bit of filling - no value for money here.

Granted there are many great aspects of this little shop. Their packaging for one is incredible and well thought out. The little almond cookies they give you with your coffee is a nice touch and always has you wanting just one more!

I think for now I will just stick with Muratti for my desserts/cakes.

Not for me.... Was a disappointing experience overall. Decor was nice...we'll give them that.

We ordered a slice of caramel cake, churros and chocolate fondant. The caramel cake was as bouncy as those bouncy balls from childhood days. Churros was oily as! The chocolant fondant..the inside was just lukewarm. Very disappointing desserts. Wouldn't go back there for the food.

As for drinks.. the homemade fruitades..way too sweet no real fruit taste. Star shaped ice was a good idea.

Personally, i think this place has some really good presentation ideas, but is overpriced for lack of service and quality food.

Fancy cakes. Visited last night. Excellent hot chocolate, creamy and chocolatey. I had the blood orange cake which was very pretty but not as tasty as I had hoped. Lots of sugar on the outside. My husband had the cappucino cheesecake which he loved. Was more than half full at 9pm on a Tues night. Good service.
Mon
Sweet success. Went in on the spur of the moment, and although pricey thought my little cake was exquisite. Ended up splashing out and buying a cake to take home to share with my two daughters and partner (white choc and mango sponge) - they inhaled it. Yes I could find cheaper cake if I wanted to but you could see the care, detail and fine ingredients that went into this beautiful dessert. I love the fact the owner has taken a punt - opening in Adelaide - the location may be overlooked a bit on busy Unley Road - but hopefully people will make the effort if they want a special treat.

Fantastic!. The decor of the restaurant is absolutely good and the cakes are just so pretty and taste good. One bad thing is they are not open very night, I want to go there every night!

Totally not worth it. I had heard some good things about Patisserie Jin and decided to give them a try.
Paid $40 for a pineapple cheesecake. What an absolute waste of money. It is the driest, most flavourless cake I have ever had. A very thick sponge topped by cheese that has no flavour of any sort.
I hunted for flavours but there were none to be found. If this was an aberration, it was a really bad one at that.
Not touching anything from here again.

The cake looks good but taste not that great and is way over price, compare to muratti cake in prospect road, they need to learn more. Service was bad!!! Will give score 1/5!! will never go there again!! I have bad experience.

Amazing Creme Brulee. I had read the interesting reviews on here and finally made an effort to visit Patisserie JIN on the weekend. Everything is very prettily presented as expected, and it was hard to make a choice as it all looked delicious.
The SmallPapa had the banana pancake, which was a pile of small fluffy pancakes sandwiched with thinly sliced banana with a very sweet maple flavoured sauce. Not huge but very tasty. Perhaps could have done with a little cream to break the sweetness. However, my Creme Brulee was TO.DIE.FOR! A pot of the most delicious thick, smooth custard with a touch of lemon with just enough brulee on top to give it a crunch. It was accompanied by a couple of thin wafers and a small pot of caramel cream, which tasted a bit chocolatey and totally yum. The combination was perfect.
Coffee was really good too. Great dessert place, or just to have a coffee and cake.

Bit of an anti-climax following such high reviews! Still, worthwhile judging for yourself...

Someone wrote it wrong place so I copied and paste it on Patisserie JIN. Last night I had a wonderful chocolate 'cake' dessert for a birthday cake. It came from Patisserie JIN. It was heaven. Four different layers of chocolate, a touch of crunch, a touch of nuts, chocolate 'mousse' and dark chocolate cream. Decadent but a small slice goes a long way. You must try it.

-----27 Feb, 2011-----

Choc crunch. It is patisserie jin own four layer chocolate mousses and also in small size as well.
it always sold out in small size.

patisserie jin 'own' 4 layer chocolate mousse

-----24 Feb, 2011-----

Patisserie JIN is better!!. Where is au Martin calme??
I've never known about it till now
Does they sell French Style Mousses??

Amazing new experience!!. I visited Patisserie Jin with my friends Friday nite!
It was still opened in Malvern!! It was unexpected…
An elegance atmosphere with nice pictures on tiled wall!!
Lovely chocolate caramel macaroons... Adorable mouse cakes...
Watermelonade!! Die for it!!
All pastries in Patisserie Jin made by Jin. I fall in love with Jin's works.
Hope spend more time soon

Not so much. I had high hopes for this place after reading an article in Adelaide Matters but alas the little cake I had for $7.50 was pretty disappointing. It had a synthetic taste perhaps too much gelatine? I had the caramel one and my boyfriend had the chocolate mouse and coffee one which did taste a lot better than mine.
Au Matin Calme on Hutt Street is better.

It’s been 18 months since my last visit to Patisserie Jin. We just had an unsatisfying meal at a nearby restaurant, and thought we would fill ourselves up by paying this place a visit. A glance of the menu indicated nothing much had changed in terms of their dessert offerings. There’s the fondant, apple tartin, crepes, pancakes, churros, creme brulee, and a range of smaller desserts behind the cabinet.

The dessert menu is limited, however there is a selection of cabinet desserts available. This place also specialises in making custom cakes for those special occasions.

I’ve been to Patisserie Jin several of times, yet only have written about it now…. Having a crave for some dessert I took a drive down to Unley (not a close distant, but I don’t mind hihi..) to buy some cakes (unfortunately just to have it takeaway)… There were not much of a choice left in the display cabinet, but I still managed to get some.. of which I think is appealing (by name or by look).. Chocolate & toasted hazelnut – dark chocolate mousse and chocolate sponge… I can’t really taste hazelnut flavor much from this cake…I expected to have some sort of hazelnut crunch due to the name… but it wasn’t there… Blood orange – orange mousse dome with a little bit of orange junks in the middle…..taste nice..(that’s all I can say about this cake) Peanut, white chocolate and orange – chocolate sponge with a layer of buttery peanut and white chocolate orange mousse… I could not really taste of orange and the white chocolate mousse is a little dense.. Cookie and cream – layer of chocolate cook

They had an adorable wooden tree that had cookies dangling from it. The fruit drinks are passionfruitade and watermelonade. My passionfruitade just tasted like lemonade with passionfruit pulp, not particularly nice but nothing to complain about. The watermelonade was quite similar, watermelon crushed up in lemonade, however this did taste better. The presentation is impeccable, my friend squealed at them being served in jars. The two drinks in the glasses are iced chocolate and iced coffee. Apparently these were a little lackluster.

Absolutely love the decor of the place and the cakes are just so pretty!

The crepes are sweet but too soggy for my taste, aside from that, they are thin, chewy and tasty. The accompanying ice cream is a delight with strong hints of strawberry flavour.

...headed down to Patisserie JIN just outside of the city in Malvern for our dose of sugar and calories for the night! The interior is sleek, modern and fun with a long display cabinet lining one wall showcasing a variety of specialty cakes and desserts. We're one of the first ones there but it didn't take long for patrons to start filing in. Watermelonade - a concoction of watermelon juice and soda water - fizzy, juicy and refreshing. It comes out in a cute little jar with ice, shake and pour. Apple Tartin with vanilla ice cream The tart pastries are extremely light, airy and flaky and once bitten, crumbles away. Not sure if I 'dig' it, but it ain't too bad. Apple and Lemon cake Prett

The owners have done smart job with the Décor and there are plenty of tables with comfortable seating. Jin specialises in special well-presented desserts. The hot chocolate comes in a DiBella coffee cup. It is served with a delicious biscuit in the saucer.
