Wow! Thanks to a recent change in management this place has literally gone from the pits to the BEST! I used to refuse to eat from there (it was Mum & Dad's local) due to the below par quality, but very pleased to report that the place has since had a complete turnaround. Delicious huge fish portions, crispy golden batter and gorgeous chips! And the new manageress surely has her young staff on their toes. Thank you! Now...I WILL BE BACK. ;)

The flavours ARE MELTING on my tonGuE, tickles my hearts and makes me fuzzy I love fried fish. Come here and eat, good food, nice worker, nice fish. Nothing fishy here, I hate myself pun intended.

I was a “tourist” in a part of Melbourne I rarely visit and it was lunchtime. Fish n chip shop seemed like a safe option. The young woman who served me was engaging and convinced me chips with my burger was a good idea. I ate it on the bench seat outside. The burger was great - big and delicious patty, tasty caramelised sauce that seemed homemade, and the bun was normal size but like Turkish bread in texture, which made it easy to eat. I couldn’t finish the chips, it was too much - and I’m a big eater. Afterwards the person who served me came to the doorway to ask me if I enjoyed it. I learnt that she makes the patties in-house! I might take a drive out to Malvern again for another.

Used to be great! Like those chips you see in the photos of the menu they used to be great! Now huge decline in quality, gave them 3 chances but now will stop. Fish is still okay just wish the batter stayed on the fish!

Disgusting! Meat on the burger not cooked. Items ordered and not given. I will NEVER go back. I suggest others don't eat there either!

Came here for the first time ever because my local is closed for summer holidays. Wowee, the best potato cakes ever, and I'm very fussy about them. Can't believe the current overall rating of 3.7.

Recently moved to the area and trying out the local F&C options. Very disappointed with our order from here. Chips were soggy, dim sims cheap, potato cakes oily and the grilled flake was very poor. Didn’t try the burger range - but will not be coming back

You guys are just amazing. Your burgers, specifically the buns - SO GOOD. The seafood is all on point, your chips are so good they can be reheated and still edible. If I was forced to find a complaint it would be that your prices seem just a tad high. But when you crank out quality like you guys I think you’re entitled to charge a premium. You’re not price gouging with food that barely justifies it like some people do. Keep it up guys.

Good Friday - totally disorganised! When I picked up they were calling ticket #60. I got 84 and was told it was a 30 minute wait. Thirty minutes later they were calling ticket 71. I waited 1 hour. Fish was not crunchy. It was oily and soggy.

Our regular for fish and chips. The guys deliver a solid flake and chips combo. Great burgers too. Overall great value when it comes to pickup or delivery.

The worst piece of battered flake ever. Very disappointing as we have just moved into the area and wanted a go to fish & chip place. Do not even bother.

We ordered some ‘Flake ($6.50)’, some ‘Potato Cakes ($1.10)’ and a ‘Medium Chips ($6.00)’. The flake was horrible, the potato cakes were mostly batter, and the chips were dried out

Greatly improved burgers!<br/><br/>I work around the corner and sometimes order the chicken burger or the burger with the lot for lunch and they are seriously good. <br/>The ingredients used are much, much better and they are massive! Especially the chicken fillet in the chicken burger. <br/><br/>The amount of side chips in each box is about the right size as well. <br/><br/>I'm happy to say that this place has really lifted its game. <br/>

Had the burger with the lot. It's seriously one of the best burgers I have had in a while. Live in Sth Melbourne and would travel distance to have again.<br/>Would have given 5 but chips were a little off but otherwise awesome

My favourite fish and chip shop of the last few years, "under new management". What a disaster. The smiling happy service has gone out the window. 2 or 3 double fryers gone so only one small fryer left. 5 staff (3 more than usually) fluffing over the fryers. long wait times. staff with no idea what they are doing. got given wrong order. cooking chicken snitzels out of supermarket packaging. putting a burger in with the chips box. soggy chips. soggy and inedible potato cakes. a $9 plain hamburger with a prepackaged meat patty, thick inedible bun and under cooked onion. no lettuce on the bun. Last time I'll be there. The food ended up in the bin and went hungry.

The fish was small so they threw in an extra couple of pieces which I thought was nice but unfortunately upon tasting the fish it was overcooked and dry. Chips were also overcooked as they were dark brown rather than golden. The only enjoyable thing was the dim sims which really isn't saying much

Good for a cheap meal! I think they are under new management since I didn't recognise any of the staff. Plus they have changed the place quite a bit. The chairs and tables inside look a lot more welcoming and nicer. The menu is also set up rather fancier - they now use chalk and fancy handwriting. The menu board is also situated in a better place - you walk in and it's right behind the counter, making ordering a lot easier. With what they have done they have currently made the place look a lot nicer. <br/><br/>The food is ok but I don't think it is at the same standard that it was previously. I ordered the plain burger and some potato cakes. For $4.50 I can't really complain about the burger. It wasn't as nicely assembled and the burger just didn't taste as good as previously but maybe my tastes have changed haha. The potato cakes had a lot of salt on them, maybe too much for my liking but others might like that much salt.

Consistently good fish & chips. The owners seem to know their stuff, everything is cooked well and tastes great. I can highly recommend their burgers, spring rolls, and flake in particular.

Current owners are doing a better job than the previous owners. Nice, crunchy chips. Burgers are pretty decent for a dodgy take away joint. $10 for burger, chips and a drink. The buns are soft and buttery. Patties are decent quality although a touch overcooked. Fish burgers are also nice. Boniface: no longer cash only!

Perfectly fried, overwhelmingly oily. Great prices, and I enjoyed the fish cakes although they put far too much salt. We also ordered fish and chips. This was less successful: while the breading was perfectly crispy, the fish tasted off and there was simply too much oil, more than would be reasonable for this type of dish. I think I'll try one more time with another type of fish, since it's clear there's potential here.

Ok fish and chips, bad customer service. Won't lie, the fish and chips do taste great, however every time I go the staff just look so sour. It's quite painful saying hello.

No concept of time. It's my local, so I'll probably keep going occasionally. However, since the change in ownership the service has continued to slide, not in food quality, but time management. On Good Friday, I big day for them, they were overwhelmed by the enormity of customers. Personally, our food took 45min-1 hour to be prepared, but others who called ahead with their order would get down there, and only once the customers arrived would they start to cook the food.<br/><br/>More recently, it's been unnecessarily slow, I've seen them chuck fully packaged orders just above the ovens and deep fryers to keep warm while the customer waits for their order and only once the customer comes up to ask does it dawn on them that they should give them the order. Additionally, they take far too long to prepare the burgers.<br/><br/>In our most recent visit there, we waited a while and people who ordered after us had come and gone, so we went up and asked, apparently that was magic because all of a sudden everything we'd ordered had finished cooking at the same time, and was immediately packaged. It seems that you have to give them a nudge to do their job right.<br/><br/>Again, food has always been good. Just need to learn time management and general organisation

This place makes the best Hamburger of any fish and chip shop I know and their chips are fresh and crispy to. You can't go past their $10 burger deal with a bag of chips and a can.

I got about half way through my fish and chips and hamburger with the lot before discovering a hair in my food. I spewed immediately. Never again

YUMMMMMM!. Tried out these guys recently and have been supremely impressed. They are very consistently the best fish and chippery in the area, and I would go so far as to say the best F n C I've had in Melbourne in a decade! Crispy chips, fresh fish, perfect potato cakes - try them out, they won't disappoint!

What Happened....Disappointing. When the new owners took over all continued well, but the last couple of times we have been disappointed. Our dim sims, potatoe cakes and fish were over cooked and tasty oily. Not sure if they have changed suppliers or new type of oil. Needless to say we were not happy. One more go before we go elsewhere.

Great fish'n'chips - better end of scale. Crispy battered scallops and moist white flake. Crispy chips with a soft center. Great potato cakes. That's what you can expect. A greasy meal, but it is deep fried after all so what else can you expect! At least the oil used was fresh and untainted. We will definitely be back.
