A lovely coffee venue. Quiet. Plenty of Space for small groups or just with a partner. Have been coming here for a while. Background music is not over bearing and suits the ambience of the venue. Food is fresh and always tasty. Coffee is made well and quickly. Sandwiches and Snacks available at the counter always greet the customer and are very hard to resist. This is a lovely tranquil venue with busy bustling Glenferrie Road outside the doors. I’ll be back with others again.
We were invited to the Prickly Pear Cafe at 75 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern for brunch and we were greeted promptly by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table in the courtyard. It’s a pretty courtyard – not overly big but shaded by large umbrellas and lots of greenery all around. Inside the decor is pleasant with wooden tables, some scattered cushions and brick walls.
We ordered the chicken and avocado sandwich, the French toast brioche and the Prickly Pear Big Breaky.
The French toast was exceptional, oozing with maple syrup and it came with a generous serving of mixed berries. The Big Breaky was massive! It consists of poached eggs, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, bacon, halloumi and a beef sausage on sourdough toast!! Absolutely great value for money and everything was prepared and presented beautifully. If you’re hungry – this one is for you! The chicken and avocado sandwich with spinach and mustard mayo was full of flavour and very appetizing. It came with nicely toasted Turkish bread or you can choose a multigrain tortilla wrap, the chicken was moist and tasty and the avocado was ripe and fresh. Simple but just delicious.
Breakfast is served till 3pm and lunch starts at 11.30am. There are many things in the display fridge to choose from and you can custom design your own sandwich or Panini’s.
The Prickly Pear is open from 7.30 until 4 but the kitchen closes at 3.pm and parking in Glenferrie Rd is only an hour. Highly recommended.
Amazing place! Great food and even better service! Highly recommend. The owner Helen was lovely and very accommodating. Perfect place for a morning coffee and brekky.
Quirky old style
Coffee was just ok
However.
My usual of poached eggs and mushies was right up there...and they even actually served real sourdough toast that was not warm bread..
Super friendly waitress who has to deal with some very eccentric elderly folk who took it in her stride.
Impressed. 😁😁😁
Great food, great service and even better coffee! Staff were very friendly and gave great gluten free suggestions to my intolerant friend. Best latte I have had on Glen Ferrie road! Definitely will be becoming a regular
Nicely styled cafe. Had a coffee and eggs which were great and came out quickly, would definitely go back again. Staff were very friendly and accommodating too.
This place has become our regular haunt! It’s a cute cafe, cosy and stylish...We love the food, the people and the coffee is as good as it gets 😃
Really great staff members that are super friendly and warm. Could not ask for better service! Food and coffee also excellent! Comes highly recommended!!!
Prickly Pear located on Glenferrie rd is a small cute little cafe. The styling of the cafe was antique style which I didnt mind. The coffee was average as was the french toast. French toast well presented
Nice little place. Again these small but hearty cafes are competing for many repeat customers but my love for food is all but restricted to one place.
I was impressed with the amount of food on my Big Brekkie plate.
I will endeavour to come back.
Check this place out next time you're in the area.
