A lovely coffee venue. Quiet. Plenty of Space for small groups or just with a partner. Have been coming here for a while. Background music is not over bearing and suits the ambience of the venue. Food is fresh and always tasty. Coffee is made well and quickly. Sandwiches and Snacks available at the counter always greet the customer and are very hard to resist. This is a lovely tranquil venue with busy bustling Glenferrie Road outside the doors. I’ll be back with others again.
We were invited to the Prickly Pear Cafe at 75 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern for brunch and we were greeted promptly by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table in the courtyard. It’s a pretty courtyard – not overly big but shaded by large umbrellas and lots of greenery all around. Inside the decor is pleasant with wooden tables, some scattered cushions and brick walls.
We ordered the chicken and avocado sandwich, the French toast brioche and the Prickly Pear Big Breaky.
The French toast was exceptional, oozing with maple syrup and it came with a generous serving of mixed berries. The Big Breaky was massive! It consists of poached eggs, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, bacon, halloumi and a beef sausage on sourdough toast!! Absolutely great value for money and everything was prepared and presented beautifully. If you’re hungry – this one is for you! The chicken and avocado sandwich with spinach and mustard mayo was full of flavour and very appetizing. It came with nicely toasted Turkish bread or you can choose a multigrain tortilla wrap, the chicken was moist and tasty and the avocado was ripe and fresh. Simple but just delicious.
Breakfast is served till 3pm and lunch starts at 11.30am. There are many things in the display fridge to choose from and you can custom design your own sandwich or Panini’s.
The Prickly Pear is open from 7.30 until 4 but the kitchen closes at 3.pm and parking in Glenferrie Rd is only an hour. Highly recommended.
Amazing place! Great food and even better service! Highly recommend. The owner Helen was lovely and very accommodating. Perfect place for a morning coffee and brekky.
Quirky old style
Coffee was just ok
However.
My usual of poached eggs and mushies was right up there...and they even actually served real sourdough toast that was not warm bread..
Super friendly waitress who has to deal with some very eccentric elderly folk who took it in her stride.
Impressed. 😁😁😁
Great food, great service and even better coffee! Staff were very friendly and gave great gluten free suggestions to my intolerant friend. Best latte I have had on Glen Ferrie road! Definitely will be becoming a regular
Nicely styled cafe. Had a coffee and eggs which were great and came out quickly, would definitely go back again. Staff were very friendly and accommodating too.
This place has become our regular haunt! It’s a cute cafe, cosy and stylish...We love the food, the people and the coffee is as good as it gets 😃
Really great staff members that are super friendly and warm. Could not ask for better service! Food and coffee also excellent! Comes highly recommended!!!
Prickly Pear located on Glenferrie rd is a small cute little cafe. The styling of the cafe was antique style which I didnt mind. The coffee was average as was the french toast. French toast well presented
Nice little place. Again these small but hearty cafes are competing for many repeat customers but my love for food is all but restricted to one place.
I was impressed with the amount of food on my Big Brekkie plate.
I will endeavour to come back.
Check this place out next time you're in the area.
Brief visit for a coffee and nibble. Ordered a lactose free latte and a ham and cheese croissant. Was pleasant surprised when my croissant came with a delicious and fresh salad. The coffee was a little on the bitter side. An overall lovely experience.
Consistently good food with friendly service.
Fair prices.
nice quirky atmosphere, they could benefit from an air conditioner in summer.
Delicious burger, very well cooked and presented. Lovely staff and the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. Nice place to have lunch or coffee.
Went for lunch today - first visit. Excellent food and service. The sweet potato wedges are the best I've ever had. The lady sitting near us was a regular and told the server that the food was perfect, as always. Can't beat that!!
great spot for lunch. The staff are friendly, the food is good and the coffee is excellent. What more could you ask? We've been twice and will keep going back.
Cute little cafe with nice decoration, I really like it! You can just go relax and do some work with free wifi or have a coffee sunbathing in the garden area at the back. The corn fritters were yummy, healthy as grilled! I added sausage on the side 😅
Only been here for a take away coffee but would highly recommend. Cosy cafe with great coffee and what looked like delicious fresh food! I will definitely be back sometime soon.
Decent food and great coffee. Cosy little cafe and really warm inside. Service is alright. Good experience overall. Will return for coffee and food.
Best toasted sandwich ever!. After my chiro appointment I treat myself to coffee and toasted sandwich at this cosy cafe. Best sandwich I have ever had and coffee is amazing. Staff are very friendly and competent.
Loved it !. Great food, coffee and the staff were extremely nice. Nice fireplace gives it a warm cosy feel also.
Highly reccomend
Great brekky and coffee. Met a friend here for breakfast and we both ordered the Big brekky. Both loved it, very tasty and their coffee is beautiful in flavour and very smooth. Service also very good.
+1 for Roast Pork on a Brioche Bun!. Tasty quick lunch at a cosy cafe, highly recommend the roast pork with apple slaw. Yum!
Excellent in every way.... I'll just say it's about time a cafe as good as Prickly Pear came to Glenferrie rd...stylish and relaxed atmosphere, loved the coffee and even took coffee beans home. We had a burger and grilled chicken quinoa salad and both were excellent, great service from lovely staff..definitely coming back, highly recommend...
The cafe is stylish with a very homey feel. They have re-done their courtyard so nicely, my girlfriend and I sat in the courtyard and had a beautiful late breakfast yesterday. Efficient service and very reasonably priced, can’t ask for much more.
Cosy Rustic Charm. Dropped in for lunch yesterday, atmosphere was cosy and inviting for a relaxing stop. Coffee was great and i ordered the potato, leak and bacon soup which came with warm herb toast. Really enjoyable on a cold winter's day. I liked the look of the cakes too, especially the lemon tart that the lady on the next table was tucking into. I would have ordered one as well if I wasn't on a diet with my wife watching over me! I'll have to sneak in on my own next time.
Prickly Pear is a quaint little cafe that has a homely feel and a nice quality fit out. They make a good quality coffee and have a wide array of refreshingly well priced cakes to go with your coffee. I'd like to try out their food based on our visit today. Staff were prompt and friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit!
CUTEST CAFE. Great coffee, perfect temperature, served in nice feeling glasses!
Toasted egg & bacon, rocket & relish really tasty and the homemade soup "pean & ham" gorgeous, big bowl
with toasted garlic Turkish bread on the side.
Girls really friendly & efficient.
Not sure what coffee they use but beautiful taste!!
Lovely decor ! Enjoyed Bircher muesli yum yum yum!
Great little cafe, excellent coffee, great staff, and the food wasn't bad, but will surely be back
Being a malvern local, I have been wanting to go into the new and revamped prickly pear for a while. Does not disappoint with its rustic and homely feel and friendly staff. Simple menu, but great food. Definitely recommend going in to check it out, as I will be back sooner than later.
Review. Awesome cafe, with a unique ambience and the food will not disappoint.
Unique decor, great food and fantastic coffee. The owners and staff are all very friendly.
Great food, very nice coffee sensational decor
A new cafe to the area. Used to own figjam in carnegie. Great vibes. Great coffee. Great food. I love this place. So glad these guys are doing great work again.
Prickly Pear in Glenferrie Rd, Malvern is a cute little breakfast / brunch / lunch cafe with a funky, rustic style interior. They have a few gluten free options on their breakfast menu including all types of eggs on gluten free toast. The dish was nice, slightly on the too salty side but I like my salt so it was ok. The toast wasn’t the most beautiful I’ve ever had, but did the job. Service is great and the place has a nice relaxing, homely feel where you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast or brunch on a weekend. 7 5 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern Related Posts: Bizzarri Dolci, East Malvern Red Mullet, Malvern Station Street Cafe, Nunawading Porgy & Mr Jones, Hawthorn Tre Espresso Bar, Brunswick
