Review Jellyfish - Manly

Michela Zanata
Great little cafe on Manly Beach, out of the hustle and bustle of the village. Coffee is great, food is delicious and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Sit outside and enjoy the view, or chill out inside. A lovely local.

We were a bit concerned when we arrived at 7pm on a Friday and it was nearly empty, but we needn't have worried. The food was universally superb. Not a huge range, and relatively standard fare, but all done amazingly well. Fish and chips top notch (which is a good test), pasta cooked perfectly, garlic prawns were delightful. If the owner is reading this, do whatever you can to keep your chef and give him/her a pay rise!

We went to Jelly Fish as a family of 5 for dinner. Every meal was delicious. The chilli prawns,Moroccan salad and crab pasta were fantastic. One in our group who had the fish and chips said it was the best F&C’s she had had! Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet compared to the Greek restaurant next door. Would highly recommend it. The website opening hours says 5-8pm but that’s not correct the restaurant is open until later. Should update the website! 👍🏼

So here we are again, Australia. Your head isn’t in the game when it comes to the service sector. Kitchen closes at 2pm. We arrive at 1.45pm and told the kitchens closed early to allow ‘cleaning’. Simply not good enough - you publish your hours and you need to stick to them religiously. People make effort to come to eat with you. We pay a lot in parking. We were actually on our first date without kids for three years. Disappointing.

Ordered take out at 11.50am on a sunday morning, waited over 40mins for fish and chips take away! Very rude French man serving who was indignant when i advised that i wouldnt have waited if he had have advised of the wait time prior to ordering. Wont be back.

The pork & ricotta meatballs as a starter were just delicious. They had so much flavour to them and had the right amount of cheese. We had the other pork starter, the pork belly, and were very impressed so far. We asked a waitress what we had just tasted (re: pork belly), to which she said she would return with an answer (sadly she did not). Next came the salmon and king prawns risotto, creamy, albeit by ‘prawns’ it was a single prawn however faultless. Duck confit was tender and sat on some asparagus and flavoured cabbage - pleasant but did not quite stand out as a whole. An inventive sauce to compliment the duck would be my suggestion. The orange cake was excellent, we would definitely order it again; The creme brulee was ordinary. Ambience was lovely and service staff friendly and attentive otherwise. All in, we had a wonderful time at Jellyfish and would highly recommend.

Half good experience The service was great and super friendly and the place was nice and clean. I ordered the mushroom and truffle risotto and it was less than average. It was very watery, not creamy at all which is what you would expect from a risotto. I assume it was because of the mushrooms, which also tasted as if they were canned mushrooms (the cup mushrooms). It was not seasoned or tasty at all, it was a bummer since i was pretty excited about it and it was not cheap, it was $28. I would expect more. On the other hand, We also ordered a salad. The salad was GREAT! Probably one of the best we have tried, it had a great mix of ingredients, it was just perfect. Coffee was also yum and came super quick to the table. I would go back for the salad but the risotto would keep me away.

I went here with my fiancée and family (group of 6) on a warm Friday evening.

Food: I ordered the lime, sriracha chicken with risotto, my fiancée the ricotta mushrooms with quinoa and my sister the linguine. All meals were very well presented. My chicken was yummy albeit a bit dry (hard to avoid with the breast) but the srircha was well balanced. Risotto was a bit bland but wasn't grainy or undercooked which was appreciated. My fiancée loved her mushrooms and ricotta and my sister said the linguine was "fresh and delicious".

Value: bit on the expensive side (we are in Manly overlooking the beach of course) but sub $30 for each meal was still good. If the risotto was a bit better I would say mine was good value but overall the mushrooms was well priced. Linguine was $26 which is a bit much for pasta IMO but it was marinara and the seafood was fresh.

Service: very friendly and attentive staff who managed us well despite a busy Friday. I appreciated not being asked my order within 5 min of sitting down. Also it's BYOW so that was a plus.

Overall it was a great meal with a great atmosphere. There were even a couple of cute dogs on the table next to us - nice to know there is a pooch friendly place in Manly!

Random last min visit to the staine. Staying above Jelly fish.thought it would be befitting to try it out. It kind of is kid friendly. Colouring pensils and paper given to the twins. Smallish tables, ok service, mains were good. My lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection. The seafood main hubby had was good but the scallops were slightly over cooked. Had to wait too long for the chocolate puddings. dissapointed with the breskfast- dinner was the best option.

Went to Jellyfish for lunch one weekend with my boyfriend and it was dreadful. We were placed inside amongst a swarm of fruit flies with an unsympathetic and disinterested waitress.

When I asked for a glass of white wine she demanded to see my ID, which is fine but she didn't ask my boyfriend for his and she was extremely rude in her approach. It was embarrassing and unnecessary, given that I am 25.

We asked to move away from the fruit flies and the waitress sighed and rolled her eyes, making us feel unwelcome.

When finally placed outside, the food arrived and was average and overpriced. In the middle of the meal, the waitress loudly dried cutlery and slammed them in a tray directly behind us. She was clearly having a bad time.

This place has really gone down hill and would benefit from hiring employees who actually enjoy working there.

Excellent spot, right across the road from Manly Beach.
I had eggs benedict, with bacon, which was tops. Bacon slightly over cooked, and a 2nd piece of toast would have been nice, however I'm nitpicking.
Well worth a try, if you're ever in Manly.

Opposite Manly beach at the northern end of the Steyne is the very popular Jellyfish café. Sit inside or out and enjoy the added benefit of beach views and salty, sea air. Whether you come for just a coffee or a meal, Jellyfish is open from 7am – 11pm! If you come for a weekend breakfast be prepared for a short wait as you compete for a seat with the many bike riders, surfers, gym junkies, locals and tourists. Go for a light croissant, a muffin, an acai bowl, creamy vanilla porridge or a fresh fruit platter. If you need something more substantial Italian scrambled eggs or the Breakfast plate complete with smoked salmon, asparagus, semi dried tomatoes, feta, avocado, poached eggs, dukkah w soy linseed toast should hit the spot. If you want to go all out just dive into the Big Brekkie w bacon, eggs, sausages, tomato, mushrooms, hash browns and toast! The menu changes for lunch and dinner but I can definitely recommend the angel hair pasta w blue swimmer crab, prawns, chilli in a garlic lobster broth! A firm family favourite!

Super impressed! The location and view. The level of service and friendly disposition. The quality of food and portion size. Would happily recommend the acai bowl as a fave of mine.

This is easily my favourite place in Manly. It's great for breakfast, lunch, dinner and anything in between. The food is great as is the coffee. It can get very busy though, especially on a nice sunny day. The service is always swift though, so it's rare you'll wait long.

Located across the road from the beach, this is a nice spot to enjoy brunch. It's spacious and there is quite a bit of seating so despite it being a busy Saturday morning, we didn't have to wait long to be seated.

Lots of kid-friendly food options covering the whole breakfast spectrum including eggs, toast, muffins, pancakes, cereals, corn fritters and more making it a good option for families and brunching mums (and dads).

Service is upbeat and efficient.

Great way to start the weekend. Corn fritters were perfect. The view amazing. Sun, sand, beach and corn fritters - my idea of perfect..

Beachy unpretentious vibe, delicious food and friendly staff. Didn't have to wait long for a beautiful dish of crispy pan fried king salmon, scampi, seared scallops with green pea purée, YUM! While my partner enjoyed a slow roasted shoulder of lamb. The side salads are a perfect size, sprinkled with toasted pine nuts! Oh and don't forget to order a side of curly fries oh yeah so good!

Jellyfish provides a quality breakfast experience in a wonderful location. The quality of the food isn't poor but won't blow your mind either :) I would recommend a classic big breakfast and get ready to see a lot of people arrive with their dogs - especially on a Sunday !
Gin'n'Blonde On The Beaches
A firm favourite for long lunches and birthdays among friends in Manly. It's the perfect venue for groups as the broad menu means there's always something to cater for all tastes and appetites. Good value food and BYO.

Chill with the locals. Regular for coffee and great with the kids. Good staff, relaxed, wifi means you can work, rest and play in the mornings.

Food is good, I do tweak the plates a little and staff always accommodating.

Probably be there tomorrow.

Best breakfast! Perfect in quality and quantity..the buttermilk pancakes w berries are a must try as is the italian salmon scrambled eggs and the juices are always fresh and delicious

Dine there locally on three monthly type occasion. got to say that the place must have changed hands because the quality of food has severely dropped. we went their for a lunch offered by one of the deal websites, felt the place has lost touch with the quality of food and presentation. staff were ok despite forgetting dessert. i won't forget their famous lamb shank the previous chef had but will i go back since, probs not.

Not a bad feed. Jellyfish is a nice looking establishment with a good atmosphere in the evening. My wife and I tried a number of the tasting selection of the menu, the Salt and Pepper Squid and Moroccan Spiced Lamb Skewers were our favourite dishes and worth a try. The only downside to the evening was the waitress, even though she was mainly polite, it felt like or presence in the resurant was more an annoyance to her socialising with the other staff.

Taking everything into account - 6.5 out of 10

Good fun. We ate here a few times for lunch and dinner. The service was excellent and food fresh and interesting.

A fantastic meal. Can't comment on the value as we used a group buying voucher but the tapas selection we picked of chilli scallops, chicken chirizo w halloumi, soft shell crab and olive and feta arancini was one hell if a starter. Mains was crispy skinned Barramundi and I had the lamb shoulder which was exceptional. Highly recommended. Support this place!

Delicious. The service is great and the food is amazing. We ordered 5 tapas, 2 main course and 2 desserts. Every dish is delicious and full of flavour. The vanilla pannacotta is amazing.
