Review Fish Shack - Manly

We came over to Manly for the day (Tuesday lunchtime). Chose the fish shack purely based on the name - we wanted F&C at the beach. Two staff were on and the place was half to a third full. Setting is nice with a view of beach. Took a while to be asked in and told where we could sit. Then I had to ask for a menu and to order. Service could have been a bit more attentive. We order grilled salmon and chips. Quite expensive for a simple dish with no side salad. However the fish was beautifully cooked and the chips crunchy but fluffy. Fish serve size was small for the price. Overall a nice place. Owners should ask the staff to be a bit more friendly and attentive.

Food: 4 Food IMO is great, I ordered the fish and chips with the beer battered barramundi and the salt and pepper squid. The fish was tasty and seemed fresh and the chips were nice and crispy. Price: 2 The portion size vs price however is pretty expensive. We had 3 "fillets" of barramundi which were about 15cm in length and 2-3 cm in width. Considering the price for barramundi per kg, I feel like it's a bit more on the expensive side. Presentation: 4 Aesthetic is great inside, the decorations are pretty nice. The food presented was also decent. Location: 3.5 Good location near the beach, near a Starbucks and Ben and Jerries for those hot days when you need something to cool you down. Service: 1.5 Literally could not hear whatever the waiter was saying to us as it seemed he kind of mumbled. It looked like the male waiter who served us doesn't want to be there, the female waiter though seemed pretty upbeat. Food came fairly quick (within 15 minutes), but it was around 1:30pm on a Saturday and most people already seemed to have eaten.

Average fish (barramundi) and chips. Oysters kilpatrick, were small. The bucket of soft shell crab is also very small. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but also felt very average. Took a while for the food to come out. Extra points for nice view of the beach/ocean.

We went to the restaurant without reading the reviews first. We should have. I asked for ab Angus Burger : came cold and veggie Burger instead. When I asked about this, the waitress told me it was Angus beef : with the taste and looks I could tell she lied. She did not even ask if I wanted it rare, well done etc. My boyfriend's calamari was so greasy he did not like it at all. It's not an expensive restaurant but when people say "it's not worth the price" : believe them... The view is very nice but that's it. There are other restaurants along the way.

Overlooking the manly beach, the Fish Shack is located in a prime location. The fish and chips were nothing spectacular, but their soft shell crab was pretty good. Would recommend their basket for two.

Slightly apprehensive about leaving a good review after reading an onslaught of recent bad reviews here, but I had a great dining experience at the Fish Shack about a month ago. I had the beer-battered Hoki with tartar and a side salad. Fish ‘n chips were fresh off the fryer, and the service was friendly. Just about anything I could ask for lunch, really. Perhaps I got lucky, but even so, cheers to that.

Go next door or try somewhere else you’re spoilt for choice in the area Overprice for a snack portion size of fish and chips. $23 + $2 sauce for fish and chips snack portion (see photo) Attendant seemed like he didn’t want to be there.

They serve the smallest Barramandi in Manly & worst service ever. Female server was rude, abrupt & rushed my order. It took 40mins for the entree to come out. A total of 53mins for 2 mains to come out. I also watched a male server drop a bucket of scallops and chips onto their serving table then push everything back in with his hands after cleaning tables. The plates & cutlery were dirty and slippery. Also charged a $2.50 per person surcharge on weekends for the worst fish & chip experience. Get real....

The service is absolutely shocking, terrible attitude from staff. If you are waiting at a table for your takeaway expect a ‘reserved’ sign to be instantly thrown on after sitting down... Hoki was nice but the chips, scallops and sauce were on the rough side

Was expecting so much more from a place located at a prominent Sydney Beach but was disappointed to say the least. High prices coupled with average seafood only made the experience that much more of a let down. The staff were good and helpful and were very prompt in service which is a positive

Must just survive on tourist trade. Definitely rests on its laurels of having a good location. Forgot one of the meals for a table of four and took about 20mins to bring it out once asked, whilst bringing out the same dish to other tables prior. Staff tried to argue that only three mains had been ordered for the four people at the table??? When it did come out it was the same as the rest, average at best. If you are on Zomato, you must do a little research. Would predict 99% of customers here don’t.

Saw this place from Instagram and saved it for when I go to Manly. Hyped myself up and when I actually went, the food was pretty average. Like it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good. TBH you can get better from your local. Tourist spot so that’s probs why it was lacking. Great spot though, you have the beach as your scenery

Found this place just by walking by. Very quick service and the food was very good, the view is FANTASTIC. Will definitely come again. Prices are very reasonable and did I mention the view. Friendly wait staff make this a very nice lunch spot.

Absolute worst. Snapper was overcooked to the point it was inedible. We didn't eat it and asked if we could return it but were told we had to pay for the full amount. $75 for a few chips and a beer. Do not go here!!

Food is average . If your order the fishermans basket EXPECT stingy amount of sauce with your food, bad oysters and avaerage battered fish and prawns. Do yourselves a favour and dine elsewhere or you'll spoil your time at Manly beach!

The food was just general, We ordered the fisherman a Basket and the Oysters were not fresh at all, very disappointing. The dish was not very crunchy, but the soft shell crabs are quite nice along with chips, overall not a bad place but a bit disappointing

1/1/2016 Off we went to Manly beach, casual paddle-boarding with some seaside fish and chips was the perfect way to kick off the year!. SYDNEY ROCK OYSTERS. Natural and Kilpatrick. I am sure everyone’s noticed by now I am a huge oyster fan :) Had to try the local ones!!! (Only found out now that Pacific oysters are not native…)

This place is terrible. We ordered Fishermans basket and whitebait and were terribly let down. The size of the fish was tiny and tasted average. The oysters were also not fresh at all. One of us got the whitebait and came out cold and tasted off... We informed the waitress but they did nothing about it. 1/10 overall, find somewhere else If your on this manly stretch.

Best fish and chips shop around! Fish and chips, deep fried soft shell crabs and clam chowder are so delicious. The batter is light and crispy. Excellent service too. My all time favorite place to eat.

Fish Shack Manly serves a very nice and fresh fish and chips dish. You could also have a cheaper take away option and enjoy them by the Manly beach.

Fish and chips? More like Chips and Chips! With extra chips!. Fish Shack or rather Chip Shack is a great place if your looking for a bowl of chips and not much else. We ordered two Fishermans baskets which were overloaded with greasy chips, two small pieces of fish and not much else. The Hoka was was good but unfortunately the dish was overloaded with even more chips. The grilled microwavable salmon was crap too. A small sausage sized piece of salmon priced at 24.90. Not with chips this time but salad. By the end of our meal, we were so overloaded with chips we wondered why this place isn't called Chip Shack. Very poor value for money, would not recommend.

The real deal. Fresh and tasty fish and chips. Service was outstanding and the waitress was very helpful. Looking for good fish and chips in Manly? This is the place to be.

Great fish great food!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Although we have always enjoyed the food at Fish Shack, I had such an awful experience with one of the waitstaff last Friday. In my opinion, he has no business working in this industry. Aside from being consistently rude to us (from the time we entered to the end), he was harassed and unpleasant to other customers and even to other waitstaff! The MOST shocking thing he said to us that lunch was, "I know you ordered a milkshake but I am too busy to make it so can I give you a lemonade instead?" ???!!!! I tell you, I was too shocked to react!<br/><br/>Such a pity as the food was really nice (as usual) and the rest of the staff were lovely. However, the horrible attitude of this man has left an awful taste in my mouth.

The menu looked promising, but the barramundi was dry, with oven chips, not the standard I was expecting. The clam chowder was nice but arrived with a skin on top. Whitebait was good though.

Beach side fish & chips shack with a feel of days gone by. Simple, good food. I have yet to find a better serve of F'n'C for under $15. Eat in or take it away to eat it at one of the benches on the promenade. I don't know about the other stuff on the menu. Whenever I want to try something else, I find myself ordering the basics again. Never change a winning dish.
