Review Xanadu Restaurant - Margaret River

Beautiful winery that is scenic and well manicured. 4 stars for: 1. Manicured lawns 2. Classy industrial decor 3. Kid friendly 4. Picturesque 5. Excellent service from staff 6. Food was tasty Lost 1 star for: 1. Better tasting wines at other places (this is my opinion). Take a trip around and do some tastings before buying. 2. Food was delicious and very unqiue but… Food wasn’t plated very well for the price (below expectations). Great taste but presentation could have been better. A great place to go to for a first-time wine taster or for visitors chancing on a restaurant… but… Wouldn’t really want to return. There are better places.

Had a lovely wine tasting experience yesterday. The staff took time and care, despite getting quite busy. We enjoyed the 3 course menu. The food was delicious, delightfully presented and delivered in a timely manner. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

A place where nobody dared to go The love that we came to know They call it Xanadu... (It takes your breath and it'll leave you blind) Sorry, but I couldn't help myself. We had a lovely outing and lunch at this winery close to Margaret River. One of the few places with an open restaurant due to the staff shortages plaguing the industry. We enjoyed a pleasant wine tasting at the cellar door with our charming informative sommelier. The lunch menu offers a 2 course or 3 course option. We opted for the asparagus and the cuttlefish which was superb. For mains we chose the succulent pork and the fish of the day which was moist and tasty. We sat outside in the charming terrace. I enjoyed a slice of french blue cheese and the accompaniments were sensational. Candied walnuts, pickled pear, persimmon and toasts. I just question why with all the local produce used they didnt offer margaret river cheeses. The staff were friendly and attentive. Lovely.

Visited the estate to have wine tasting. Great experience and definitely the quality of wine. Bought one and were happy customers. Nice ambience as well 👍

This is a great winery for a long lunch. The service and food are outstanding. We didn’t get a chance to do a tasting prior to lunch but that would be a good addition to the afternoon. Make sure your prebook to avoid disappointment.

Flawless meal and delicious wine with great service. Visiting from London so went for a nice meal with mine and my partner's parents. We had the two course menu and everyone loved their dishes. Very friendly and attentive service.

Their food is beyond as well as wine tasting. We’ve got some good wine back home. One of my favourite wineries in Margaret River, Western Australia.

Please do yourself a favor and visit Xanadu winery restaurant in Margaret River. The service is unmatched. Menu is small and seasonal to a particularly high standard. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in our mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had while in Margaret River. Highly recommend! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

XANADON'T - Came from Melbourne for an amazing experience, my wife and I had travelled from Perth and were treating my brother in law and 87 year old mother in law to a lunch in the world famous Margaret River. We were very much looking forward to our lunch at Xanadu which I thought would be a highlight. How wrong we were. <br/><br/>We booked a table of four. Arrived on time to a half empty restaurant, staff rushing around dropping cutlery on the ground and uncleared tables. Immediately the atmosphere struck me that the place was badly run. <br/>Even though we had a booking, we then waited 10+ minutes in a queue at the counter to be seated. Was whisked away (by the manager?) to an outdoor seat in the wind (he didn't ask us where we'd like to be seated). We requested an inside seat and waited on a couch another 5+ minutes. First hurdle down. When finally seated, waited at least 15-20 minutes longer to finally have orders taken. <br/><br/>Entree took 20 mins to arrive. By the time our mains arrived, it was well over one and a half hours since we had arrived. We had spent most of the time waiting. The French waiter, who was nice enough, apologised to us but it wasn't enough to make up for the frankly extremely poor service. I had to get our bottle from the cooler on the waiter's area to pour our wine after a long time sitting at a empty table with empty glasses! We waved, yelled and tried to get staff attention but they were too busy rushing around to stop for us. We were invisible.<br/><br/>We wanted to treat our family to this and it was just terrible and disappointing. Of course we complained to the manger, he came out and didn't even have the decency to tell us his name and basically was on the offensive from the moment he walked to the table. We explained why we weren't satisfied but I am not sure if any of it was even taken on. Considering this place charges upwards of $60-$100 a seat, and it is a winery, I was quite frankly shocked at his lack of empathy and pathetic responses to our issues. Not good enough! It was a bit like a bad episode of Fawlty Towers! He did knock $54 off the bill but that really wasn't enough. <br/><br/>For any out of towners who are considering coming to this place, beware! Locals will have a go at you if you dare have any issues! A special mention has to go to the overweight local woman who started to loudly go on about how good the service was in a pathetic attempt to make us look bad - my response to her embarrassing display is if that's the kind of place you like to go to, you can have it! We'll find somewhere else next time we come to Margaret River, it will easily be better priced, have better food and better service.<br/><br/>Food: Entree of Cauliflower was ok for what it was. I had the mains of Tortellini which was more like an entree (ie very meagre serving) and was cold. Food = 2 stars<br/>Service: Read above = MINUS 2 stars<br/>Ambience = Barn like, messy and noisy (if you love large families with lots of kids running around, and staff dropping plates, you'll love it) = MINUS 2 stars.

The first impression when we got there was service running at frenetic and uncoordinated pace, flies buzzing about empty tables littered with used glasses and plates, a messy table of noisy kids and a bed of chips scattered over the floor, and a Manager who took 15 minutes to process a single customer payment before we were finally greeted for a table, for which we waited a further 10-15 minutes for the table to be prepared? The menu looked promising - some creative choices were on offer. We ordered starters and the mains, but waited an eternity while our faces aged and as afternoon turned to evening before the food finally arrived. We ordered a bottle of wine which, after being served initially by the waiter, was forgotten completely, so my brother-in-law had the good sense to steal it from the wine bucket standing on a nearby table to fill our empty glasses. The food was good but nothing extraordinary and the starters, though tasty, was slightly overdone. We arrived for a late pre-arranged 2:30 lunch but did not get the mains until 4pm. We demanded to see the manager who only provided a handful of excuses - 200 people today, an Assistant Manager who was away on holiday in France over the busy Easter break, and the fact that he has had 16 years in the restaurant business did not make any sense when we had to consider a service and restaurant atmosphere that had completely broken down. The staff need to have Gordon Ramsay running the show at Xanadu to get the food and indifferent service back in line, and the Manager ought to take leave and do a 16 year course in hospitality re-education so that he can finally become aware through his unseeing blinkers that customers waiting an hour between courses has to be his own fault. Avoid as there are plenty of other nearby wineries that will function far better than the current Xanadu restaurant management.<br/>

Xanadu? More like torture. Food was a good standard but was absolutely ruined by the shocking service. We waited an hour between courses and did complain but the manager took his time to come and talk to us. He then explained he’d worked in the industry for 16 years blah blah blah, not bothering to really take on board our feedback. Hugely disappointing... and the flies were pretty appalling too. Don’t bother.
The Chefs Wife
Our first visit to Xanadu came when I’d been Chef’s wife for all of a few days. Honeymooning in Margaret River, the Xanadu cellar door was on our must visit list and good job, as their 2005 Shiraz was a cracker. I think we bought a whole case! Fast forward a decade or so and we were back again, invited by the Xanadu team, and so glad to see their wines are as exceptional as ever.
Perth Munchkin
For lovers of good food and wine, the South West of our fair state is a very easy part of the world to fall in love with. We are spoilt with an abundance of outstanding wineries and fortunately many of their beautiful cellar doors are accompanied by equally impressive restaurants. I’ve long had my list of favourites for a lazy lunch when in the region, but for some remiss reason I’d never been to Xanadu Wines.

The food was very rich. <br/><br/>I feel the dishes need something to balance them out. Something fresh or light to counter the richness. <br/><br/>I would definitely give the restaurant another go, but would love to see something a little different next time. <br/><br/>
The Taste Bud
We had a late lunch at the Xanadu and it was delicious! Gourmet presentation, decent prices and the staff were lovely. We had a range of dishes and each of them were perfect. 👌🏼 The soft background music coupled with a lazy beanbag setup for the cheesey wine drinkers called for a super chill atmosphere! The yummy wine selection on offer had us ealking away with 3 bottles of Shiraz. 🍇💕 Highly recommend!

The service is so laid back that you would think the staff are the ones on holidays ... when you spend $110 + on a bottle of wine you would think that it would be kindly topped up for you! The spatchcock was dry and the lamb just ok but the flavours could have been elavated 10 fold. The pork cheek and scollops great hence 1.5 stars only for the entree. Lastly, set amongst amazing views but none to be enjoyed from your dining table. We came back to give it one last chance but this is our very final visit.<br/>
The Go Go Mumma
Utterly disappointing... The restaurant manager and staff had little to no regard in providing any real quality customer service. After we established a table for our party we were disregarded for 10mins. I noted many of the wait staff seemed flustered in what seemed like a very low service period (at around 2.30pm) When we asked if we could have a high chair for our table, we were quickly greeted with a frank<br/>- 'Do you have a booking?' Advising no we hadn't, we were promptly told that we would not be served as the restaurant was fully booked. Yet there where several empty and finished tables abound?? Clearly unhappy, I mentioned to the waitress it would of been appreciated if this had been advised once we were seated as we hadn't been acknowledged for a better part of 10mins. The response was a feeble 'Hmm well, sorry I didn't see you' followed by a quick palm off to the manager who, clearly seemed stressed, sweaty and under pressure. After being asked again if we had a booking I reiterating my response to the waitress which the manger curtly stated that being the Easter weekend, we would find it almost impossible to get service anywhere in Margaret River without a booking. Normally I don't find the need to complain but I do feel that the way we were spoken to was unnecessary and quite off putting. Whilst I still believe Xanadu is a beautiful venue, I think their staff have a lot to be desired for in terms of handling what seemed like a 'low service' Period mid afternoon. I cringe to think what it's like with full tables. However funnily enough the next restaurant we attended was readily obliging and sat us WITHOUT a booking, what a surprise. We would definitely revisit the cellar door buy maybe book or be prepared to be ignored.

Went there for lunch yesterday, the Xanadu board was lovely, duck pate, duck Terrine, chorizo an pork belly, shared between two it is a great entree, highly highly recommend.<br/>The mains were also very good, my party enjoyed the Barramundi, the spatchcock and the lamb with smokey eggplant et al. The barramundi was perfectly cooked but l was dissappointed to see that it was served with a mayonnaise/aoli type sauce, nice but I would've preferred something different. The charred grilled spatchcock needed more char but was ok and my 14 year old loved the lamb rump.<br/>All washed down with the Xanada 2013 $40 Chardonnay, nice. I don't that that the reserve is worth the additional$40.<br/><br/>

Outstanding service & amazing food! It was the perfect way to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary!

The restaurant at Xanadu Winery features an European influenced menu and changes seasonally, due to the local produce available. It was quickly decided by the group that we’d opt for the brilliantly priced three course option for $60, with a small additional charge for a few items on the menu (the scallops or black angus). We each chose an entrée, main and dessert each. Our table left the wine ordering to Karen, who is the oenologist at Xanadu. She chose the 2012 Stevens Road chardonnay for our table to start with – an award winning (and fantastic!) chardonnay that was named the Best Single Vineyard Dry White Wine at National Wine Show of Australia 2014 and the Best Single Vineyard Estate White at Margaret River Wine Show 2014. As we were dining with Karen, the chef provided us with a few delicious complimentary nibbles to start our lunch with. The first were the mixed olives with piquillo and cornichons. The second item were the cauliflower croquettes with sweet corn aioli, made in the traditional style with béchamel sauce. These were perfectly golden and crispy on the outside with a great flavour combination of sweet corn and cauliflower. The three course menu provides the option of sharing the Xanadu board ($37) between two for the entrée, which A and I decided to do. The Xanadu board featured chicken liver paté with granola and truffle oil, confit and smoked duck terrine with pickled beetroot and glazed pork belly with beetroot relish. When the board arrived, I was immediately impressed by the

A great winery !!!!

Delicious. We loved our meals here - each dish was cooked to perfection and such a taste sensation. Beautiful fresh fish on the kids meals also. Knowledgable attentive service by the waitstaff. Often a little quieter than the other winery restaurants.

Wow. We have a new favourite place to go when down south. Everything was amazing. 24 out of 10!

Had lunch here on valentine's day (Friday) on our way from Augusta to busselton. Expecting a busy lunch for the big day I booked before we left Perth a week earlier. I needn't have bothered as we were the only people there when we arrived at 1215. Ominous?<br/>Given a table on the terrace on a beautiful day I was impressed with a read of the menu.<br/>My wife ordered the seared venison salad entree and duck leg with pork dumpling main. I had the Japanese style salmon and the Indian lamb (I wanted the duck but refuse to order the same thing) Her food looked great and got no complaints from her but we didn't share so I won't comment on it.<br/>My salmon was fantastic. Decorative plating is great, but if the flavours don't match it, don't bother. This did. Not only that but the salmon was room temperature. It makes such a difference, but most don't do it since if you don't sell it, you have to throw it away. I also did a little count in my head and value for money +++<br/>I was expecting a slow cooked lamb dish and was surprised (but not upset) to see a slightly pink cut on my plate. With contrasting tomato and eggplant chutneys, soft creamy paneer and crunchy toasted almond slivers it was a well composed dish. To be picky, it was under seasoned, but that being my only complaint from the meal, easily overlooked.<br/>I also had nannup plums with granita, pistachio brik pastry and shiraz gel.<br/>My exact comment was "on a day like this I could sit here with this and a glass of port and be satisfied"<br/>One of the best meals I have had in a long time. We'll done.

Food was lovely, very noisy restaurant without much ambience, but staff are friendly enough. What you would really expect from a margret river winery - good food, slightly above average service, and busy.

Good food & great wines. A group of 8 of us arrived on a very wet, cold and miserable Saturday - but it all changed when we entered the restaurant! <br/><br/>As we had arrived a little bit late, we hadn't already been for a tasting, but the waitress said we could do this after ordering our meals. The Xanadu wines are not particularly cheap but they certainly appealed to my palate.<br/><br/>We all had the special menu for $60 (i.e. choice of an entrée, main & sweet). Although the range isn't extensive, there was enough choice to appeal to all. The food was beautifully presented and very flavoursome. Every dish was enjoyed.<br/><br/>The restaurant has a big open fire with some couches in front and is very spacious with tables being well spaced apart. It certainly a great place to spend a few lazy hours with good friends, food and wines.

Great Food. We had yet another great lunch at Xanadu on Sunday. The food and service were great, particularly the Pork and Vegetarian Platters. What a shame the Xanadu wines are so awful at the moment. I think the wine list should be expanded to the other Rathbone wineries so you can at least order a glass from those wines.

Dissapointed! Being a winer.... Dissapointed!<br/>Being a winery, you would of course want to enjoy a bottle of their wine with your meal..... What a dissapointment to have to pay $20 more for the same wine that you can buy from the cellar door 4 steps away, (BYO not permitted). The explanation was that it was a service charge - fair enough - if the service is good - the now $65 bottle of wine was not aerated, & we had to remind the server that we had not received our side orders, which then arrived after the meal.<br/>Cannot fault the food!!

Stately pleasure-dome, indeed.. We loved this restaurant - best winery meal in WA so far. Prices were very manageable with the entertainment card thing. The regal drive past the copse of trees provided a dramatic setting. At our tasting before lunch, the lady at the cellar door was busy, frazzled and snarky. In contrast, the restaurant staff were more courteous and good-natured than any others we've met in WA, and helpful with wine recommendations, without being intrusive. The Xanadu wines are delicious, but mark-ups in the restaurant are hefty. In the end, we had a $42 bottle of riesling from another Rathbone winery, Mount Langhi Ghiran in the Grampians. Starters included the best gnocchi we've tasted anywhere on earth. Gnocchi came with mushrooms, goat's curd, pumpkin and truffle oil, and we wanted to ask for the pan to lick it clean, after cleaning the bowl. The pork plate had vibrant colors and good textures from the accompanying cauliflower and pickles. Barramundi was perfectly fresh and perfectly cooked. Duck was tender, and was complemented by attention-grabbing carrots. The lamb was tasty and came with a crunchy lamb pastilla. Chocolate delice lived up to its name. The rhubarb in the tart wasn't stringy, the tart was beautifully decorated, with nearly wafer-thin and light pastry, and the frangipane wasn't cloying. I'd love to go back. The restaurant was full, so book ahead

Special Mother's Day. We dined at Xanadu for Mother's Day and weren't disappointed. Xanadu Winery is very picturesque. The buildings have an old world classic feel. We booked our table at 1.30pm and entered to a full house. Service at the door was welcoming and confident. We were shown to our table and introduced to our waiter for the meal. Water was offered quickly as was a special Mother's Day gift (nice touch) We ordered the olives and a scallop dish for starters, kids lunches and hand cut chips. Everything came out in good time and was delicious. Once again the waiter was observant of the time between our starters and main and we were really happy with the break between courses. For mains my partner had the beef and I had the duck with a side serve of pumpkin. Each dish was superb. Presentation was impressive. The only thing better was the taste. We didn't have time for desert but the menu looked good. All up with a bottle of wine our meal for 2 adults and 2 kids was just under $200. Xanadu is the fifth Margaret River winery we've eaten at this year and has been the standout.
The Non Existent Diet
Outstanding food and service - one of the best in WA. We ate at Xanadu a while ago but the food is absolutely amazing and had to be mentioned. Our adventures in Margaret River started off with a late lunch at the famed winery Xanadu. Xanadu is a secluded estate tucked away in the forests of the South West and is a pristine and peaceful location. Both times I’ve been there, the service has been prompt, warm and welcoming and with the exception of a few screaming children jumping on the couches, it was relatively quiet. <br/><br/>The kids menu was a bargain at $16 for a three courser. Our little eight year old got fish and chips, a Fanta and ice cream and was pretty happy with what he got. The shoestring fries were salty and crispy, all you would expect for a nice serve of oily goodness and the fish was flaky and fresh. The kids are also given a cool activity sheet to keep them occupied, alongside some colouring pencils. It’s something similar you would find in Dome, and I think its something all family orientated cafes/ restaurants should invest in – people are more like to give positive feedback if they can finish their meal in relative peace while their child attacks a piece of paper with a Crayola.<br/><br/>The complimentary bread was a tad stale with a tough crust, however we were dining post lunch rush, so it was understandable that the bread may have been sitting around for a while in the kitchen. Ebs drenched mine in olive oil, salt and butter and I was pretty happy with its ability to satisfy my appetite prior to the mains.<br/><br/>Six of the seven teenagers/ young adults on the table ordered the southwest beef fillet ($38). They took a while to come out, however they were definitely worth the wait. The plates were almost identical and beautifully garnished. My fillet was succulent and cooked to perfection - medium rare and juicy, with none of this sinewy crap you get for cheap cuts of meat. The swiss brown mushrooms yielded with each bite, slices of pan fried potatoes cut to the right thickness, the pancetta beyond bite sized and crispy and suitably salty, and that béarnaise butter was bursting with flavours. A gravy pooled at the bottom of the dish resembling a jus, served with a smear of kipfliter mash on the side. It was magic and I cleared up my plate promptly. I can not tell you how impressed I was with this dish – you pay close to $50 for something like this in Perth and it doesn’t even come close in terms of quality - the meat tenderness and flavourness of its condiments made it an exquisite main menu. <br/><br/>As the menu at Xanadu is seasonal, the following entrée is no long available (sad as that is). On the day however (upon request), our entrée came out the same time as our mains. The saffron banana prawns, with gnocchi, squid ink paint and warm tomato vinaigrette was an artistic masterpiece. Three pieces of caramlised gnocchi and three prawns curled up sat atop a strip of black ink, scattered with the vibrant green of alpaha. A pretty dish with amazing flavours. The pan fried gnocchi crunched immediately upon sinking our teeth into its outer layers, and was soft and smooth inside. The squid ink gave it a peculiar taste, but the tomato vingarette sung of authentic Italian sugo – packed with herbs and rich to taste. The prawns were cooked well, firm with a spritz of salt water indicating its freshness. <br/><br/>The last of our bunch had the seared lamb loin ($32). The peas and lentils were well cooked, the feta adding a zesty acidity to the dish. The meat melted in the mouth (according to our black sheep – he had a great food vocab, so I’m taking his word for it).<br/><br/>We saw the desserts whiz by to an adjacent table, but at that point the kitchen had closed and we were stuffed from our previous food adventures that morning. The trio of sweets on the dessert plate looked delicious – something to try for next time!<br/><br/>Service was fantastic, attentive and brimming with efficiency with particular love shown towards our little man. There is even a better value on offer if you have an entertainment gold card, as you get 25% off the total bill (up to a value of $40). Addition discounts come with accommodation at the Margaret River Hideaway (where we stayed) including 10% off wine ordered with meals, plus a complimentary glass of dessert wine with every dessert purchased. <br/><br/>It’s worth the drive down, with the only nitpick being it took a while for the mains to come out – we were a group of 15 strong at 2pm in the afternoon, so that was an acceptable reason for the slight delay. And afterwards its highly recommended that you head next door for some award winning wine tasting, satisfying the extensive palate of full bodied reds and white. Meanwhile the kids get to vault around in the playground next to the courtyard.<br/><br/>What I loved about Xanadu was the exceptional food worthy of the South West, attention to detail for presentation/ plating up, great service (especially towards the young ones), a warm family friendly atmosphere, the lush green gardens and of course, the WINE TASTING.<br/><br/>Though quiet in the late arvo, bookings are highly recommended. With my family of five, we walked in around lunch, although the waiters did mention the lunch rush was crazy so I would call up to secure a table.<br/><br/>Overall Rating: Nine out of ten beef fillets.

Louise liked. I disliked. O.... Louise liked. I disliked.<br/>Overcooked steak, late dessert and out stock of the basic items under the maslow hierarchy of needs, water. Seriously how can you be out of stock of water on a friday?
Micho
Average. Food was okay service was great. Nothing spectacular and certainly not worth the price. There were five of us and none of three course dishes we ordered stood out.
PerthieGeorgie
Lovely lunch- very relaxing. Decor very 'minimalist' - lots of empty space- doesnt mame for the best atmosphere. Seated outside was absolutely lovely. Food and service was fab except wpuld have liked to be asked whether we wanted still or sparkling instead of assuming.

Disappointed. I have always been most impressed with Xanadu in the seven years that I have been back in Perth dining down south. Even 6 weeks ago I was blown away again by the food and service here.<br/><br/>Yesterday however was average.<br/><br/>The waiter took too long to bring out the water, both sparkling and tap. Wines were ordered early but took a while too. The children's meals were ordered early also however the waiter came out to double check the order just as we thought the meals should have been being served. It wasn't difficult. 2 chicken, 1 fish.<br/><br/>Entrees were being shared but no extra crockery or cutlery was brought out (which meant that later we had to ask for cutlery for our mains). Entrees were however, very good. (Quail and chicken 3 ways)<br/><br/>It was the mains that let the chef down. The two men ordered the fish which turned out to be a deep sea fish that both men independently judged as incredibly bland. Cooked well, but too thick and too plain. Not the sort of fish that one would pay $39 a plate for. Incidentally, the kids didn't touch their fish either. <br/><br/>Apart from that, my friend thoroughly enjoyed her lamb main, which was fabulous for her.<br/><br/>My meal was one that I had previously tasted six weeks ago, I loved it so much that I ordered it again. The vego plate. What was perfect in January failed this time. The first flaw was the roti bread that may as well have just been oil-soaked dough. Last time it was crisp and light. This time it made me ill. Very ill.<br/><br/>The other part that really bothered me was that my zucchini flowers had not been washed at all, and although the stuffed end was perfect, the crunchy sand effect in the stalk really put me off the meal. Not nice. I did alert the waiter to this, however no apology was forthcoming, nothing was said nor done.<br/><br/>The side salad was unwashed as well, no one ate it, and the really great chip side dish was taken away whilst we were still eating from it.<br/><br/>I had to remind the waiter to bring out the kids drinks which should have been a simple thing to get right.<br/><br/>Coffees were great and the choc dessert was awesome. <br/><br/>I just wish the chef had have washed the zucchini and salads and - why - why put that fish on the menu at Xanadu? <br/><br/>#hoping it's just a bad day<br/><br/><br/>Won't go back for a while now :o(<br/><br/><br/>$356.50 for 4 adults and 3 kids<br/><br/>Great playground.

Wow, what an experience. We were told we could not book until 1.30 due to how busy the restaurant was. So we arrived at 1.15, Not many here, probably 50 max, and it's now 3.14 and still no main. great place, have seen 3 tables leave, an I think it's appropriate we do a runner - a unique experience for me- of course after we have eaten!!

Adventurous food, great service and very good wine

Never fails to deliver a great lunch. Beautiful setting and a great set up where they haven't tried to cram in as many tables as possible. Lovely to be able to enjoy lunch without listening to the conversation of the next table.<br/>As you would expect for the prices, service is good. Menu is a bit limited with only four mains but understandable when they don't open for dinner and are trying to serve fresh food. <br/>We tried the tasting plate which should be called the tasty plate. It had fresh oysters, pork belly and banana prawns. Annoyingly (and this doesn't seem to be the only place that does this) they provided us with a tasting plate for two i.e. two portions of everything yet there were three of us sharing it. Not sure how they expect us to share two oysters between three.<br/>The mains (beef and lamb we tried) were cooked to perfection and although the beef was a generous portion, the meal was lacking potatos or something similar to compliment it and provide a full meal experience.<br/>Wine of course was good but dessert was a little disappointing. The choices were somewhat odd . We sampled the brie souffle which needed to be served with some wafer crackers to complete the dish and we sampled a bizarre combination of chocolate and lemon tart with earl grey ice cream. Not sure this quite worked.<br/>However this remains one of our favourite wineries for lunch in the region and never fails to deliver a great lunch.

Once Is Probably Enough. Watch out for the guy with the curly hair and the European accent because he's *very* good at his job: not just friendly and helpful, but knowledgeable and willing to offer unprompted advice too. And to be fair the food is of a generally high standard and the courtyard setting is pretty. But this is dining as art: not much on the plate but everything on the bill, as the saying goes. You could easily blow $200 on lunch for two here and still go home feeling peckish.

Amazing!!! If you would like to go to a winery for a long lazy lunch with over the top fantastic food go here!

Another Great Experience. In a WA sea of poor service and zero value for money Xanadu is a small beacon showing that it IS possible to find great service and consistent food quality in WA. Yes, its expensive, but its worth it and the staff go out of their way to make your time special. After multiple visits I can recommend the Vegetarian plate (changes regularly) and the estate Chardonnay. I can also recommend the professional service and attentiveness shown by the wait staff as a whole and the maitre de in particular.

The Lamb Pastilla was my number 1 favourite dish. Crunchy spring roll pastry encasing amazingly tender and flavoursome meat and I LOVE olive tapenade.

The food was fantastic and I’m so glad we didn’t miss out especially knowing the restaurant was half empty.

All the staff were all so bubbly and welcoming, and within minutes of us being seated at our table the manager came over to acknowledge us and advised me he was fully aware of my allergy requirements. I was advised that most items off the menu could be easily adapted and we were introduced to our waiter for the afternoon.

A glass of wine with lunch. . . Stevens road in Margaret River is a straight line off Gnaraway ending a few kilometres south at Redgate. An unmarked country road which happens to be the home of two esteemed residents. Voyager and Leeuwin Estate. From what I understand the Stevens Rd wine is from a single block, while the more expensive reserve chardonnay is a blend of estate fruit. Orange blossom and butterscotch, restraint and oatmeal. A slippery wine with lovely acids a curious suggestion of orange and only the slightest hint of bitterness and pith. Excellent. 93 perhaps. Image: Three mains and a blossom.
