Family dinner for 5.  Very welcoming hostess makes you feel welcome.  Chicken and sweetcorn soup both tasty and a generous serving.  We shared various mains beef and mushroom, honey chicken, pork and prawns with vegetables.  All good portions and tasty but the legend of honey chicken was crunchy on outside, sticky and tasty.  Very yum!  Will be back!

I love this place. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and the 1970s decor with brown faux wood panelled walls is everything you could ever want out of a good Chinese restaurant. The food is delivered quickly and your order is taken promptly, regardless of how busy it is. Although most of the dishes are delicious, I can highly recommend the Honey Chicken; crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Richmond Chinese Restaurant has the Western-Chinese cuisine down pat.

Hey guys, I am reviewing ‘Richmond Chinese Restaurant’ by name and nature. The reason my partner and I picked this place is because it’s literally a 2-minute drive from our house, which is great! I phoned them up and placed an order for take-away because we didn’t really feel like dining out, and I was recovering from a cold so didn’t really want to put proper shoes on. We ordered a special fried rice, honey chicken, and sweet and sour pork. Pretty safe options but we just felt like eating something westernised and familiar to our palette. However, we felt like being a little bit fancy so that’s why we picked Chinese food instead of Subway or chicken shop, which are also within that small shopping ‘village’…. as they call it.

I must say, I like the simplicity of the name of the restaurant - ‘Richmond Chinese Restaurant’, as it tells you where and what it is, very efficient. We picked up our food and the service was good and the order was ready upon our arrival. This is probably due to the fact that we picked the order up in the recommended timeframe provided to me on the phone. In our case it was 15 minutes, which I think is a very reasonable time frame. The order only cost $26, which I thought was quite cheap. The staff were friendly, even though I had an awkward interaction with the man serving me. He asked me if I wanted cutlery, but I thought he asked me if I wanted a catalogue, so as a result of my misunderstanding I answered, ‘no, thank you, we just look it up online’. He looked at me with a puzzled look upon his face and repeated the word ‘cutlery’ in a louder tone, and looked at me right in the eye. I said, ‘Oh sorry I thought you said catalogue’, and he just laughed and said ‘I thought it was strange when you said we look it up online’’, and he laughed. Then my partner joked and said ‘we’ll just order some cutlery on ebay’, this little comment eased the weird vibe that was growing in the room. I must say I thought it was weird that he would say ‘catalogue’ instead of ‘menu’, but it just shows how easily you can mishear someone when you’re hungry.

As we left and were driving home my partner asked me if I noticed the strange interior of the restaurant. I told him no as I was too busy concentrating on the transaction. The whole way home he was telling me about the strange interior – he was saying there were plenty of donation boxes for various charities – about 5 he reckons. Apparently the doorways were odd, very congested and puzzle-like, and there were dusty presents hanging from the ceiling, and he said something about it feeling like a prison and how the counter bit where you pick up your food reminded him of going to a teller at the bank. He was waffling on about it for ages like an old hen that he nearly missed the turn onto our street. I had to say ‘this is our street’ in a semi-loud tone so that he didn’t miss it, and he just said ‘yeah I know, I wasn’t gonna miss it’… ‘yeah right,’ I thought in my head, but I let it go. We got home and prepared our feast on our coffee table and I must say, it was absolutely scrumptious. The special fried rice was great, good amount of everything in the rice. One of my bits of pork in the rice was a little chewy, but that was the only issue I had with it. The honey chicken was pretty much as good as it can get. Just the standard honey chicken taste was what we were after and it’s exactly what we got, no complaints there. The same with the sweet and sour pork – no surprises there. It was a very un-surprising and satisfying meal which is exactly what we wanted.

Some people say it’s not the destination, it’s the journey – I would say, I disagree. The journey was only okay, I’m glad we got to our destination of food town in the end. The journey would not have been worth it, and I definitely would not have gone through with it if I knew there’d be no food at the end of the tunnel. Anyways ‘Richmond Chinese Restaurant’ is a great option for Chinese food if you are anywhere near Richmond Road!
I give it 4 starts. Thanks

Whenever Poppy has the urge for some genuine suburban Chinese restaurant takeaway he heads into Richmond Chinese. Poppy recommends dining in for a better experience surrounded by the old timewarp decor and magnificent service from Jenny and her staff who are always friendly and helpful. Poppy loves a chat with Jenny. Best spring rolls in Adelaide!! The flaming satay chicken is a knockout and the sweet and sour pork/chicken is moorish. Highly recommend you try Richmond if youre in the area or after a quiet low key suburban dine in. Never had a bad experience here. Thumb up definitely worth an eat 👍

I love this place, the general food is average and what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant but the fried rice is the best I've ever had. Nothing compares and I always come back for it :D

I really liked the service and the food was fresh, tasty and well priced. Pretty much ticked all the boxes for a casual eatery but was not a huge fan of the decor.

Food was great, and lovely service 🙂 We ordered fried rice, chicken+mushroom & sizzling beef satay. We will definately be coming back. It's a shame to see they have had some negative experience with some customers. We definately had a good experience there!

About as good as Westernised Chinese food gets. I don't usually eat Chinese, however this was a welcomed meal. The fried rice and pork spare ribs were delicious and great value for money. If you feel like indulgently sweet and saltly foods, this definitely satisfies the spot.

We were taken to this restaurant by a friend last year and what a hidden jem it is, the food is fabulous they have big serves that fill you up and there is always some to take home. The food is the best Chinese I have eaten out of an Asian country even so it's Chinese for the western pallets. I would highly recommend this resturants if you want good Chinese ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from us

Food and service is great. Usually have the seafood combination in birds nest...yummy. would be better if they brought out the rice before the dishes
