Generous serves of good food. Well-prepared, at least, the fried spring rolls and the fried stuff with the sticky rice coming out well. Rather light on flavour, otherwise much better than I was expecting from a chain.
Bun bo la lot ($11.50) & Pan-fried pho ($12.60): the betel leaf was the highlight of the dish, great char flavour and still juicy -everything else was as expected for a Vietnamese fan-fare. My bf really enjoyed his pan-fried pho, you have regular pho noodles flash fried with a beef gravy sauce topper. “Doesn’t taste like pho but still good” (his words). I think it’s more on par with a pad se ew wet gravy.
What shocked me with the menu was how ridiculously cheap the dishes were! The portions were not those insanely small plate-sized ones, but your average for-one-sized plates. It made it so much easier for me to add two more sides to try out, alongside our main dishes. Dishes were categorised under rice paper rolls, sides, rice vermicelli, rice dishes and pho. I ventured out a little on the visit, ordering myself the steam sticky rice with stewed pork belly with egg..

This place is quite known to specialise in Northern Vietnamese cuisine so decided to give it a try. Decided to try the pho tai to start things off.
Interior of the restaurant had a Vietnamese feel to it with the usual wooden stools and low level tables and it made me feel as if I was back in Vietnam, especially Hanoi.
The pho was served out within 10-15 minutes. As you know Northern pho is known for their broth more than the cuts of meat and this is exactly what was reflected in the bowl; a strong rich beefy broth. The noodles were also thicker than what you have in a bowl of Southern pho and the two cuts of meat were very flavourful but since some of the brisket was fried it was slightly dry to my liking.
Hence I enjoyed this bowl of pho.
Overall this place would be recommended for people to try out north Vietnamese cuisine and their prices are kept very low!
Awesome place to grab Vietnamese food, the owner is very approachable. I asked him what I should get because it was my first time and he smiled. He pointed at a dish straight away and it did not disappoint.
With a variety of different dishes and unique delicious flavours coming together, I had an absolutely amazing experience for my palette here.
So many standout dishes, it was hard to choose a favourite but if you do happen to visit.... my recommendation would have to be...
xoi thit kho - steamed sticky rice with stewed pork belly & egg & of course the pork Nem. Both of these dishes took my tastebuds on a well deserved journey that I still drool over today.

We were hunting for dinner on a thursday night. Lots of joints around,especially thai and vietnamese... it was a difficult choice. We saw some people sitting outside VN with food on a banana leaf i think?? It just looked really interesting and we got pulled in.. i am glad we did. We went for their menubox option as my partner is not a meat eater. I kinda wish i went for their highly recommended dishes that came in a basket and leaf! Next time. Anywho my pork belly was cooked to perfection!!! Would definite come back to try more. Cost effective too.

VN Street Foods is a different style of Vietnamese restaurant. I wanted to try something different so went with the Bot Chien which were a type fried rice cakes.
I wasn’t expecting much but was very pleasantly surprised. Very tasty!
The best bun cha/ lemongrass grilled pork. Affordable too! We first had bun cha in Hanoi and their version is very similar to the one we had in Hanoi, which was a popular one there.
One of our go to spots for Vietnamese in Sydney. Great spot - looks dope and like the street vibes and the food is always so good. Had most things here and they’ve never failed. It’s busy for a reason. 🥰
Very small restaurants but so busy, instincts tell me it must be descent.
We got seated in 10 minutes, ordered Pho and lemon grass grilled pork with vermicelli.
The coconut drink was really good, the ice was also made from coconut water. The pho was aromatic and they are quite generous with beef. The broth tasted of MSG but it didn't bother me too much.
The vermicelli and lemon grass pork is very delicious. Sauce is sweet, and the serving is good. A very balanced meal. Can add extra meat or noodles if you have a bigger appetite.
The tables and chairs were very short, so it's not a comfortable place for long talks. Would also not recommend big group more than 4 to come at peak times.
All in all, cheap eats and plenty to choose from. Loved it.
Home style North Vietnamese food, very different to South Vietnamese food but still tasty.
I ordered the salmon set with rice, Chinese broccoli, lotus root pickle, and sweet sour soup.
Salmon was very crispy and cooked well, vegetables were bright green and blanched so they were still nice and crunchy, the pickles were a good sour sweet contrast to the rich sauce of the salmon and the soup was nice.
The flavours are very “clean” and the food here is the sort you might find at a normal Vietnamese household dinner, healthy and well balanced.
$13, tasty, quick service and an easy lunch or dinner. Very limited seating and definitely not for larger groups.
One of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants. It’s no frills here but the taste and vibe is just like when I was in Hanoi. They have lunch boxes where you can customise you own main, type of vegetable, salad and soup. I’ve visited for both lunch and dinner and have tried most of the menu. Definitely a place I will keep coming back to.
Travelled to Ho Chi Minh last year and craved some Bun Cha and this place hit the spot.
Prices are well worth the portions and the quality of food. A must-try!!
Seriously this place is so underrated!! THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING! Service was decent. Me and my friends ordered the Bun Cha with extra fried Nam, and we all looooved it. And if was relatively cheap, around $11-$14. Especially for a huge portion. Probably the best food I’ve had. For someone who is not Vietnamese, I’ve always thought of Viet food being banh mi and pho. This place has opened my taste buds to the great Vietnamese food. Will be coming back no doubt!!
First time I’ve had proper bun cha outside of Vietnam and it was delish! Really can’t recommend this place more if you’re looking for an insight into what Vietnamese food really tastes like.

Most meals range from $11-$15 and they’re quite filling.
I had the bun thit nuong with rice vermicelli noodles, it was very filling and the meat was flavourful and nice (a bit oily). The noodles didn’t have any dressing of sorts so I used the sauce from the meat bowl and the fish sauce from the sauce bar. There’s a mini bar with sauces near the counter.
Duck pancakes were $5 for two which is pretty cheap and tasted good.
I’m from Hanoi and I would guaranteed that Bun Cha from Vn Street food is much better than Bun Cha in most of restaurant in Hanoi. They also serve many Vietnamese famous dishes as well. Highly recommend. You may have to wait in the weekend but it is worth!!
This place is great value for what you get. I bought a bento box and was supremely satisfied with it. This place does a great thing where you can pick what you personally want in your bento box out of a list of things. I picked a few classics, like caramelised pork belly, but then added a few others like pickled eggplant that were a bit different. The sour and the texture of the pickle with a touch of chili was delicious in between bites of pork belly. Delicious.
Felt transported to Vietnam, is quite surreal. Low seats and tables a little too close to the road for comfort. Food looks authentic and served on bamboo baskets but I have not been to Vietnam so am just comparing to what I have eaten so far
BUn Cha is a tad salty but the meats and balls grilled and yummy!

Eating the food here was like sending me back to Hanoi where I would normally sit on the pavements and enjoyed food from small vendors 😍
Service was slow since the restaurant is not big (at all!) and so many customers gathered during dinner time.
On top of that, the price is reasonable. Food are absolutely fantastic. Plus there's a cute cat hanging around (sorry if you're not a fan of cats).

There's a very Vietnamese feel with low tables and seats made from milk carts.
We got a rice dish with pork and egg, a pho and a vermicelli with beef in betel leave. All delicious.
A number of dishes which are good and delicious. My girlfriend and I always come here and have a lunch every weekend. Just arrive and take your own favorite food!

Their $12 meal box (like a Vietnamese bento box), is a great cheap eat. Choose your soup, protein, side, rice, salad and it's a quick, fun dinner option. Tasty rice paper rolls on the menu too.

VN Street Foods may be a small shop front along Illawarra Road in Marrickville, but it is turning out plenty of fine plates of Vietnamese classic dishes. Pull up a tiny chair and sit and watch the show. VN Street Foods fits a hella load of customers inside their small shop, along the front of the store on the footpath and even up a side alley, wherever they can shove them in. It's elbow to elbow along the high bench, where you can view the action along Illawarra Rd or other diners just outside. While you might have to wait for a table, the turnaround is fairly quick. Yes folks, we queued to get in here but only because we were sucked in when we saw an old lady smiling and really enjoying her meal, no better advertisement in our books.
they have a very small place but their food is surprisingly good. I love vermicelli rolls and their ones are okay, maybe the outer layer can be a bit thinner. They dont serve fish sauce like other restaurants but I still like the sauce they serve up. The beef with the vermicelli noodle is a bit dry, but good flavor. Looking forward to go back and try more dishes from them!!!
Best bun cha in Marrickville by a long way. Grilled meat was great but the sauce was a bit too sweet. Other things on the menu are average but decent. Service isn't great here (sometimes rude) but the quality of bun cha offsets this.
As a Vietnamese who doesn't feel crazy about Vietnamese foods or Vietnamese restaurants outside Vietnam, this is my favorite place. Good price, friendly, simple menu, quick service, generous portion.
I was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh city but has a Ha Noi background and spent few years living in Ha Noi, the foods here are very close to Ha Noi foods.
I've only tried Bún Chả (No.16) and they have the best Bún Chả I've ever found. I will try other things but if I feel like eating Vietnamese foods, this is the place to go.
Here I am in Marrickville and we are trying to decide which Vietnamese diner we should go to (there are at least four to five to choose from on this side of the street). We pick VN 'cause the stools and the layout reminds me of the outlets in Saigon (ahem HCM city to be politically correct) and 'cause there are also more patrons there.
I order the Bun Cha with extra pork. My dish arrives in less than 10 mins. The meat is chargrilled and in a nice fatty stock, which is great for the a'dente vermicelli. Lovely! The chargrilled pork really brought in the flavour.
For $25 for two, it's decent value for pretty good food.
Hearty Vietnamese food is what you will get. Its definitely not fine dining here, you will occassionally find insects flying around but its all about the food. The Fried Intenstines was delicious and super fatty, so if you don't eat Shrimp paste like me, it might be too fatty and unbearable. My friend had the Bun Thang (vermicili with Vietnamese ham, chicken, egg and mushroom) and it was nice and filling. I had the wait until my friend had almost finished hers to get my Bun Cha (grilled pork belly and meatball with vermicili and herbs in a Vietnamese dipping sauce). It was worth it though. The smokiness of the meat and the perfectly balanced dipping sauce made the dish. Definitely would recommend.

Chose this lovely little place when we were craving some Vietnamese and we weren't disappointed. Good for a quick bite to eat. You order off laminated menus, with a pretty decent range of options to choose from.
I had the sticky rice with chicken, egg, pork sausage and veges which was delicious. Bf only wanted satay chicken and rice which was full of flavour, and they also gave him this chilli sauce which went great with his meal.
Servings are more than decent, we struggled to eat our pork bun ordered as a side dish. It is a bit cosy inside, and may not be ideal for those who don't like sitting on stools. But takeaway is available. Staff were very friendly and we'd recommend this place to anybody looking for good value Vietnamese.
Excellent. Nice food and I had a feeling I am having street food in vietnam( I am from Vietnam btw). The tables and chairs are small, its right next to the street, allowing you to watch pedestrians and cars passing by. If you like street foods and the experience, this is definitely the place!

This small and cosy, unassuming restaurant serves up authentic Vietnamese food with fresh clean flavours. Bonus - it's easy on the hip pocket but come with cash as credit cards are not accepted.
Great authentic viet cuisine! Sticky rice and bun Cha are my favourite! Bento is also very clever idea. Huge quantity and great quality must try if you come back from Vietnam and still craving for authentic Vietnamese food!

This restaurant is an absolute gem in the middle of Sydney, let alone in Marrickville. Always on the hunt for an authentic Vietnamese restaurant that captures the essence of delicious street food, VN Street Foods exceeded all expectations - this is the only restaurant in Sydney that serves AMAZING dishes of great value (too great!) The staff were courteous and friendly, and the setting was very street-like. The only suggestions I would have to the owners would be to expand the dining area to seat more groups of customers, and perhaps increase the price to match the value of the amazing food, as it would be a shame to see the only good Vietnamese restaurant in Sydney close down. We tried 7 dishes in one go: beef fried rice with mustard pickle (highly recommended), grilled chicken with sticky rice, grilled lemongrass pork with rice vermicelli, sticky rice with stewed pork (sooo authentic), Bun Dau Mam Tom, crispy dry pho, and banana flower salad. Will definitely not disappoint - your tummy will be extremely satisfied.
So refreshing to have something other than the usual Viet staples in Marrickville. Ignore the fact that they use the word "Bento"... this place is legit, authentic, tasty, cheap and above all - interesting! There's only so many times I can eat pho, bahn xeo and bun cha. Too many Viet restaurants in Marrickville are playing it safe and atering to the non-Viet crowd with the same old dishes. Am yet to have a bad meal at VN - and always something different to try. The little bowls of broth that come with the set meal.... dayyum. I could drink a bucket of it. Sorry Thuy Huong - this is my new favourite Viet outside of Cabra. 5/5 👍
Tasty Vietnamese take on a Japanese Bento box - 5 different options inclusive of Meat, Salad, Vegetables, Rice & Soup, overall the food is fresh and served quickly, a small & modest area to eat in as you would expect for street food cuisine, personally I would prefer to dine for lunch than dinner but would definitely go back and try a few different dishes, The lemon grass pork was great.
Exciting new entrant along Viet eat street aka Illawarra road, Marrickville. New concept of Viet bento style mix and match boxes allows you to try Viet street food including delicious mushroom stuffed squid, greens with garlic, salmon and pork dishes. A small open shopfront with little tables makes it feel authentic. On a very hot day we tried the "brain freeze" ice juices which were great and not too sweet. Recommended.

My dish of the night was Hanoi Style Bun Cha ( grilled fatty pork belly served with rice vermicelli and salad). The pork was cooked to perfection on the grill top and the dipping sauce was a balance mix between aromatic fish sauce, vinegar and rock sugar mixed together left me craving for some more after finishing the whole serve. I like the concept of designing your own meal box and only doe $12! You start with picking your rice (brown, white or fried) then the main meat, I got caramelised pork belly and flavoured egg, a veggie side, salad side and a soup.
Very good for a quick feed on the go, not much room for eating in but they do home delivery via menu log. There's other dishes on the menu, but went for the meal box as it was easier.
The dishes are simple and taste good, I would go for back here again for lunch if I didn't feel like a pork roll.
